I´m coincidentally listening to this on Mothers Day in México. My Méxican wife just got a message of love from one of her daughters that she hasn´t seen for four years! 🙂 When I answered her with a smiely accidentally another smiley showed up too, my belief is that it was Juan Gabriel sending her a message too. 🙂 If you don´t believe me, let me say: In México those things happen all the time!
This is a love song to his mother. When asked whether he was gay he famously answered: with a smile:"What you see you don´t judge!" Very cryptic, but generally seen as confirmation.
His performance at the Instituto de Bellas Artes is even better 😇

Please react to his other performance at the Instituto de Bellas Artes of this same song with English subtitles please. This song has a lot of meaning and is a big part of the Mexican and Mexican American culture. This song is often played at funerals.

Then I continued searching your videos and you hit me with this Gem 💎. I’m Mex-American and Juan Gabriel is a legend. This song translates to Eternal Love. It’s about losing a loved one and the continuing to feel the pain and agony. One of his lines translates to “I prefer to be asleep than awake from the pain I feel that you’re no longer here”. This song brings me to tears every single time I hear it as it’s usually dedicated to our mothers who are no longer with us. Look up his performance of this same exact song when he’s older but with a full orchestra behind him. New subscriber based on your true love for all music. Just watched my first video of your's and I loved it. Juan Gabriel was my mom's favorite singer and when she passed we played this song at her memorial. You should react to the live version... it'll break your heart. And show you how much love and respect was his audience had for him and vice versa.
There’s a better version of this and actual !! In “Bellas Artes” one of the best places to perform in México!

Hi Britt, The title of the song "Amor Eterno" means "Eternal Love" in Spanish and you are absolutely correct when you say Spanish is very romantic, it is known as a "Romance Language!!!" For not knowing how to speak Spanish, I absolutely loved your reaction because you were so genuine with what you felt the song was saying to you!!! Well done my friend...Bravo!!!

Hoy descubrí tu canal y exactamente a las 6:00:00 a.m. me suscribí y activé las notificaciones para recibirlas todas. Realmente pensé en suscribirme desde que descubrí tu canal, pero primero quise ver si ya tenías alguna reacción a Juan Gabriel y la encontré al buscarla. Y esperé hasta que fueran exactamente las 6:00 a.m. para suscribirme. Sería genial que hablaras español o que por lo menos tuvieras la traducción de las canciones al idioma inglés para que tus emociones fueran aún más intensas. Y creo que sería muy buena idea que reaccionaras a cada canción de los conciertos que hizo Juan gabriel en Bellas Artes y a muchas de sus interpretaciones en vivo en diferentes lugares y en diferentes épocas de su carrera.

The song is Eternal Love yes, however in Spanish the word for Love, Amor is very passionate or romantic. Like in English you love your siblings, your spouse and your children, but in Spanish you love your family ( with the verb querer ) but your spouse IS your love (the noun amor). For example Juan Gabriel has another famous song titled "Querida" (the verb querer) which roughly translates to "Loved One", ranging from mere endearment at your cute daughter to the hardcore sexual love with a mistress. However, "Amada/amado" (the noun amor) means that someone is your beloved, a higher form of love by default, reserved for those you love deeply or with passion.
This is significant since at the beginning it sounds like a romantic love song of a man mourning his spouse's death, regretting that he could have done more for her, and wishing he had spent more time with her. However, love songs in Spanish tend to have some sort of indicator about the love being physical or romantic but with this song he only coveys feelings of grief and sorrow which gives us a hint that it was about his mom, that while he did all he could, she died anyway and that once he dies, he hopes they can keep loving each other. It's a nuance that is hard to grasp in this song, and unfortunately translating the lyrics with google doesn't do it justice.
