holy smokes I have a 2011 m37sport package.. I think same motor. I need to sell mine before this shit breaks.. I like working on cars.... but damm need to take whole car apart for a freakin pump
I have a question. I'm doing the same JOB on a 2008 G35. I have the left ignition cam on time, but the right cam won't aline into time, just the chain, and it alligns perfect to the seal you pointed to. Now my left ignition cam aligns perfect to the engine DOT with the chain. The right is on the direction you pointed to, but the left in the direction of ALL DATA!. am I still here in time, or do I need to get both in the same direction? Facing the DOT or the Seal? Pls get back to me as this is a very tedious job and patience, I have a lot because I love what I do. I've done a lot of American and European cars, but this baby is giving some issues. Any advice will help. Thank you kindly. - Daniel.
When water pump goes bad it starts leaking by timing cover ( there is a hole for it and leaks from there ) as soon as you put new water pump and new gasket ( new gaskets comes with it ) if you don’t damage it you not gonna have leak anymore till water goes bad again !
Thank you! Yes mine was leaking coolant like crazy from behind the ac compressor. I swapped the water pump yesterday also did gallery gasket, today I’ll be connecting all the coolant stuff since i took my whole front end off, hopefully everything goes smooth 😅
Last week i was laughing at ford ecoboodt v6 in SUVs having a waterpump in the engine block and the catastrophic failures it made.. Now i learn my g37 is made the same.. Better start doing a coolant flush every 5 years boys !!
Honestly companies make things broke easily Doesn’t matter how often you get coolant flush But of course it’s good to have good quality and recommended coolant and flush it …
My mechanic charges me 300$ and the part is 60$ on Amazon , don’t take it to a shop unless you wanna spend a lot of money , take it to someone who knows how to work on vqs and that’s good in general
@@ngldany5161 don’t take me wrong but made in China parts not last long. They cheap yes!! But not same quality with original ! And nooo way 350$ some will do this job !
Change the gallery gaskets while you're in there and get the updated composite metal gaskets and get rid of the Philips screws in favor of hex drives screws that should be torqued to 11 pounds with blue Loctite so they don't back out.
Hmm I just purchased one today dirt cheap with a blown head but it was leaking next to the ac compressor I think they misdiagnosed it but before I change the water pump I'm coming to do a compression test on each cylinder
if you remove the water pump without loosening chain tensioner would it come off timing? one of my techs did this job and i think he just took the pump out without loosening anything and put back a new one. he was under the assumption that if he didn’t move the chain and put it back exactly as it was he wouldn’t have to redo the timing. i’m not a tech. so i can’t confirm
@@1of1.92 it actually didn’t. customer finally brought it in and we found out that the magnet on the right cover for the cam that controlled variable timing on the exhaust side wasn’t working. the physical timing was actually fine. but the pcm couldn’t adjust exhaust timing because of the malfunctioning magnet.
In actuality you don’t need to remove the chain, just move the slack off that side, but since you have it open, assuming you removed the front cover.. replace the water pump replace the oil gally gaskets, replace your guides , and chains if you have high miles
Your timing marks are off!!! See how the E on the exhaust gears are upside down? R & L are upside down on the intake gears? On the exhaust cam gears, the dowels should be pointing up (yours are pointing down). The exhaust gear on the drivers side; orange marks on the chain must line up with the double elongated marks on the gear. The exhaust gear on the passenger side; orange marks on the chain must line up with the double dot marks on the gear. On the main chain, the yellow chain links line up with the dots on the crank and intake gears. Maybe if you take it apart incorrectly, and re-install everything exactly incorrectly, it'll work out. I wouldn't take that chance however.

Just replaced a water pump on a 2011 g37 with an original Nissan part and it running out the weep hole worse than the original, the car has 113,000 miles! Anybody had this failure twice? wow ,holy smokes. you just scared me from buying a used 2010 or 2011 infiniti g37x coupe . makes me want to buy just a new one with warranty. I'm not a mechanic. and I dont got a garage.
Lol don't be scared, just buy one with good service history. If they haven't changed their coolant in 10 years, then high chance the water pump is rotting away. if you think this is bad, you should be worried about the galley gasket. that one is worse labor. happens from prolonged oil changes when the oil gets acidic, and also from full throttle all the time maxing out oil psi throughout entire system good cars tho. I've seen them go 190k miles with zero engine & accessory problems, only radiator replacement.
hostilityy How is that more labor when it’s literally right next to the galley gasket. It’s relatively the same amount of work/time. The timing chains have to be removed and you’d have access to both.
why ? there super fast at stock . plus the design for most cars are shit . every time you got to change something its usually a hard place to get to . nothings easy when dealing with cars. your just lazy . its all good. take it to a shop if your not a hands on person . but the G is better than most
