Just putting this out here as an extra point: “Over-pen” is what Pestily just explained but it is also something people use to describe the early wipe phenomenon when you have M995 but your enemies are either no armor or class 2-3 armor. You are “over-penning” because if you went with M855A1 and saved yourself some money, you’d actually kill the target in less shots because the damage is so much lower on the M995. So essentially the proper phrase is that you are over spending, since you’re buying a round to shoot through killa armor but you’re so early in the wipe that you don’t typically need that type of penetration
Yeah overpen is when high pen but low damage rounds are used on no armor people (hatchlings, pistolings, scavs) that results in you not killing them as quickly compared to an armored enemy because of the low damage

Prapor and skier sell foregrips, sights, hand guards, dust covers, stocks, grips. All of it is cheap and I’ve been doing well working towards flee market maining them. Only issue is they kick pretty heavily so only full auto them in like room to room combat. But single shot at range works great too

This was really helpful and appreciated. A few afterthoughts- I dont love BT 545 ammo bc it is a tracer round and prefer to do budget runs with BP in an AK instead. Also, I know this would be a lot to get in to, but I wish you would have talked a bit more about armor damage and zeroing armor with higher fire rate guns like the M4 and the VSS. The reality is with just about any ammo, in a higher fire rate stable gun, you will zero armor in 2-4 rounds and then kill with the next 2. So 6 rounds out and they are dead? in a 800 or 900 rpm gun, thats devistating.
One thing to note for 7.62x54. For SVDs, I think the 7BT1 outshines SNB. It has very comparable pen and damage and the tracer helps with sniping, but it also has a recoil swing of -14 (-4 vs +10 with SNB) This is great if you are pressing the SVD into use as an all purpose battle rifle (short and long ranges). It's a little more expensive, but still can often be found for under 700 a round on the market.

Something I think would've been really important to note on the rounds with the MP7 is that the subsonic SX is of course a sub sonic round and thus travels significantly slower than the other rounds (290 m/s compared to 620 m/s in the FMJ or 680 on the AP SX).
How would overpen even be a bad thing? AP rounds dont tend to fragment anyway, so having them go through means more damage. Overpen is something thats mainly bad with explosive fused shells when you shoot at ships.
In the tarkov world over pen refers to say using m995 ammo on a player who’s not running any or low level armor. When you could have actually killed him faster with say m855a1 as the lesser pen of m855a1 wouldn’t have mattered and it’s higher damage means faster time to kill.
@@kekistanimememan170 Thats not what overpenetration means in any other context, though. OP almost always describes a situation where your shell/bullet wouldve done more damage, if there was more armor and it didnt go through as easily. And thats not the case with M995, which has inherently less stopping power, regardless of what it hits.
@@torqued111 hmm... good point, i have a habit of watching out for price spikes of certain things after a youtuber / streamer talks about it / uses it.

The game was terrifying to me but now I have a better idea of what I can and should be doing.
the KS-23's 23 stands for 23mm which is way far off from 23 gauge because the bigger the number, the smaller the shell when it comes to gauge. If you were to use the gauge system on the KS-23 it would be around 6 gauge. (timestamp 6:58)
Theyve already changed the chart to be on their website. It has an easy to read extra bit on the side with numbers to simplify the rough effectiveness of a bullet vs each class of armor
I’ll be honest, this video doesn’t teach me anything new, but I watched it all with full ADS Because it’s so well made and it deserve every single view it can get
Its generally good to refresh the memory as well and stay up to date. Knew pretty much all the stuff, but im kinda pissed they nerfed M62 into the ground, but still have it hidden behind a super long quest chain >_>
Thanks! Very useful info for me at least been playing the game few months now and holy crap people kill me fast but now i think i can fight back little better.
Regarding those other stats, I know you said there are exceptions, but I think one that is fairly important to mention with 12ga shotguns is the Express buckshot. It does 35 damage per pellet (while also having 9 pellets vs. the 8 of the Magnum), and has a significant accuracy boost (the lower recoil may matter too for some people), especially compared to the Magnum, even after the nerf. The result is a noticeably tighter spread of pellets, which I personally like, as it sits nicely between the Magnum and slugs in effective range. One more thing worth mentioning for the 5.56 rounds is that you can use them with the AK-101 and 102. The good thing about this is that these guns are much more easily and cheaply moddable early game than an M4 or HK (the guns themselves are usually cheaper too), and this way you get to use better rounds with them that what is available for the other AK variants at a given price. These two guns quickly became my all around favorites this wipe for this reason. Personally, I very strongly disagree with you on the 7.62x54R rounds. The 7n1 sniper cartridge having the capability to one shot people in the thorax who are running class 4 armor or lower (meaning most PMCs outside of Labs) is definitely something that should be considered carefully, especially with bolt action snipers. I prefer it even with an SVD, because while the SNB can two shot people in the thorax with any class of armor with that gun fairly quickly, the 7n1 can in most situations do the same in two shots as well, class 6 armor being the exception as you said. Still, I think the main exception to going with the 7n1 is if you are going for headshots only and worry about Altyns, because then the SNB has a distinct advantage, but not that many people use Altyns for me to worry too much about this scenario, not even late wipe. In fact, when given the chance I have never ran with anything but 7n1 in this caliber in all my time of playing Tarkov, and never once regretted it. Otherwise, an excellent video as always, kudos for helping out the community with these.
Had to pause bc just tested which caliber i think "felt" the best and I'm really rooting for the 7,62x39 akm, low recoil and hits like a truck! Biggest disappointment is .300 BO, i know it hits hard, but i can't get over the horizontal recoil. Love you dad!

One reason the whole "overpen" thing might have come up is the idea that for most calibres, the higher pen rounds do less damage. So if you take in a round with higher pen than you needed, you're missing out on damage from using a round with lower pen and probably higher damage.
I'm sure you have loads of ideas for your vids a few things would be great to see from you would be budget pvp weapons say 80-110k doesn't have to be BIS but something thats at least semi viable. Smaller the number of gauge the larger the round. May have just misspoke when you mentioned that in the video. But just though I'd inform you if you weren't aware.
Wondered the same since 23 gauge is smaller than 12 and 20. But he meant 23mm. Cuz that shotgun isn’t a 20 gauge it’s a 23mm. 12gauge is around 18mm. I don’t even think a 23 gauge shotgun exists. Heard of a 22 and a 24, but never a 23.
Dont quote me on this I could be completely wrong, but this is the ammo designations I've found/fanangled BT = Ball tracer BS = Ball Special PP = Enhanced pen PS = Pen Special SN = Sniper Ammo Gzh = Bi-metaloc GS = Lacquered Casing US = Sub sonic LRN = Lead Rounded nose(?) SP = Soft point (Hunting round or something) PP = Povishennaya Probivaemost(Enhanced Penetration) BS = (Ball Standard) - специальный(Special) M = Modernetya(Modern) So 9x18 mm PM PBM could be Enhanced Ball Modern
I disagree on the M62 for sniping. For new snipers the tracer might be good, but it also gives away your position easier, especially to third parties/team members. If you are decent at zeroing and ranges, M61 is superior because of the pen and accuracy, and most importantly not give away your position with tracers. Also for M700, M61 is the round that it is zeroed for, making it easier to use zeroing with that gun.
You don’t have a timestamp for .366, me coming back to the game after a couple years and seeing VPO-215 being so cheap that’s what I actually came for, good thing I stuck around to watch xd
If a bullet goes through someone instead of fragmenting in them there is less damage and is an easier wound to heal. Which is why it makes sense that you’d want the middle ground on pen, so that your rounds fragment in them, however I do not know how well they made their game.

Thank you for this... Tired of constantly explaining to my friends why certain ammo is better than another, gotta show them this.
Holy shit Pest, you are on top of it brother! I was just getting ready to comment and ask if you'd do an updated ammo video! Thanks!
Nice zoom on the “Crack straight into it”
Something I think would've been really important to note on the rounds with the MP7 is that the subsonic SX is of course a sub sonic round and thus travels significantly slower than the other rounds (290 m/s compared to 620 m/s in the FMJ or 680 on the AP SX).
Thank you for addressing overpen, anytime i try to tell my friends overpen is a myth they dont believe me.
How would overpen even be a bad thing? AP rounds dont tend to fragment anyway, so having them go through means more damage. Overpen is something thats mainly bad with explosive fused shells when you shoot at ships.
@@termitreter6545 and home defense. you don't wanna shoot a bad dude and it go through him, your fridge and the neighbor's dog
@@NZXT_Nomad Of course, same reason police use hollow point. But in Tarkov, going through isnt a concern.
You’re amazing pest. My favorite streamer, and you’ve helped my Tarkov experience heaps. You’ve also got me saying stuff like “heaps” and “laughin”
now we wait for price spikes
Although very informative and refreshing, This is not really a secret at this point, ammo prices will not change because of this video.
@@torqued111 hmm... good point, i have a habit of watching out for price spikes of certain things after a youtuber / streamer talks about it / uses it.
Thanks again Pest! I had to watch this for the awesome info now that I am playing EFT.
Leaving a comment for the +1 to Pesti and the 500th time I've come back to this video before loading a mag.
With the insane price on 7.62x51mm NATO , i have been using BPZ FMJ alot in my Hunter rifles. Useless against class 4 and above but has forced me to go for headshots alot. So far has been working for me
so fragmentation is basically a "critical strike"
I've been wrecked twice this wipe by scavs one tapping me to the chest with LPS fml 😭
@@ImBarryScottCSS that makes sense without frag, lps should one tap without fragmenting given its high damage
@@bobkendomowitz9534 No it shouldn't, It has below 85 damage.

Great video ! .336 is missing from the timeline ;)
Well, I'd never heard of you a week ago but then I don't spend much time on Twitch. However, I've already recommended you to a few people and I'm learning more all the time. Ta very muchly for putting together clear, coherent ratings with a rationale behind each choice. Too often I just see "This is the best, end of". The game was terrifying to me but now I have a better idea of what I can and should be doing.
wow........ watched this whole video and didnt include the ash 12 ammo feels bad man
same, but I've been told to just use PS12B, it can punch through and 1 shot any lvl 4 or below armor
Literally no one better to get no bs, straight to the point tarkov info from. Unless I want some philosophy included then its veritas.
Lapua locked behind a quest but it's cheaper to buy on the flea at this point than Jaeger, lmao
It's cheap because they locked the gun and now nobody has use for the ammo.
the KS-23's 23 stands for 23mm which is way far off from 23 gauge because the bigger the number, the smaller the shell when it comes to gauge. If you were to use the gauge system on the KS-23 it would be around 6 gauge. (timestamp 6:58)
*I just got a Russian ad, I think RUclips is confused*
Theyve already changed the chart to be on their website. It has an easy to read extra bit on the side with numbers to simplify the rough effectiveness of a bullet vs each class of armor
Comment for algorithm: WITNESS ME!
i just picked up tye game last week thanks alot your videos have been extremely helpful
I dont aim for the head or the body. I go for whatever I can hit lol so I need the pen lol

Awesome, wasnt too sure on the 7.62x54R but alot more clear now, and i have been over rating M995, good intel :)
This is a positive comment for the RUclips algorithm
I’ll be honest, this video doesn’t teach me anything new, but I watched it all with full ADS Because it’s so well made and it deserve every single view it can get
Its generally good to refresh the memory as well and stay up to date. Knew pretty much all the stuff, but im kinda pissed they nerfed M62 into the ground, but still have it hidden behind a super long quest chain >_>

Yup versus straight walking offline raid bots.
@@freerider3434 U ruined it, get outta here
Thanks! Very useful info for me at least been playing the game few months now and holy crap people kill me fast but now i think i can fight back little better.
where is the link to the chart? :))) Great vid as always!
@Oblivious26 Luckily he put it in later ;))
M80 with the hunter will still rule no matter what
did they buff thorax hp? I remember m80 one tapping at 80 damage
Had to pause bc just tested which caliber i think "felt" the best and I'm really rooting for the 7,62x39 akm, low recoil and hits like a truck! Biggest disappointment is .300 BO, i know it hits hard, but i can't get over the horizontal recoil. Love you dad!
only use 20 ga slugs sell everything else, let other people buy good stuff for you and just one tap em cause the toz is god tier
This is exactly what I needed! Thanks! Keep up the great content!
Half an hour to say use highest pen on every round KEKW
Basically. Until they finally overhaul the armor system and fix the crit chance bug.

***Chat Voice*** PESTILY!!! PESTILY!!! What ammo should I use?! 😏
One reason the whole "overpen" thing might have come up is the idea that for most calibres, the higher pen rounds do less damage. So if you take in a round with higher pen than you needed, you're missing out on damage from using a round with lower pen and probably higher damage.
Bruh the ash 12 gets no love? It’s my favorite gun.

Hey we should crash right into General Sam's channel! I hear his channel's really bumpin'
I'm sure you have loads of ideas for your vids a few things would be great to see from you would be budget pvp weapons say 80-110k doesn't have to be BIS but something thats at least semi viable. Your videos are really well thought out and informative man.
Hey remember that time General Sam put Pestily on the map then Pestily turned around and talked mad trash and tried to get Sam banned from Twitch because he doesn't know how to take a joke?
Remember that other time Aqua (who is the nicest streamer I've ever seen) was incredibly nice to Pestily and Pestily felt the need to talk shit about Aqua?
Funny stuff.

Just a fun fact- that 23mm Russian shotgun is real and it’s a 6.278 gauge. Which is why it’s called a 23mm instead. That’s GIANT 😂
Dont quote me on this I could be completely wrong, but this is the ammo designations I've found/fanangled
BT = Ball tracer
BS = Ball Special
PP = Enhanced pen
PS = Pen Special
SN = Sniper Ammo
Gzh = Bi-metaloc
GS = Lacquered Casing
US = Sub sonic
LRN = Lead Rounded nose(?)
SP = Soft point (Hunting round or something)
PP = Povishennaya Probivaemost(Enhanced Penetration)
BS = (Ball Standard) - специальный(Special)
M = Modernetya(Modern)
So 9x18 mm PM PBM could be Enhanced Ball Modern
I disagree on the M62 for sniping. For new snipers the tracer might be good, but it also gives away your position easier, especially to third parties/team members. If you are decent at zeroing and ranges, M61 is superior because of the pen and accuracy, and most importantly not give away your position with tracers. Also for M700, M61 is the round that it is zeroed for, making it easier to use zeroing with that gun.
You don’t have a timestamp for .366, me coming back to the game after a couple years and seeing VPO-215 being so cheap that’s what I actually came for, good thing I stuck around to watch xd
PePeSha, right on. Respect and like for pronouncing the name of the gun correctly!
If a bullet goes through someone instead of fragmenting in them there is less damage and is an easier wound to heal. Which is why it makes sense that you’d want the middle ground on pen, so that your rounds fragment in them, however I do not know how well they made their game.
absolute legend on every wipe, thank you
One thing I noticed is scavs having 40 head health so 35 dmg does not always guarantee a one-shot
Normal scavs have the same health as PMC's, only raiders and bosses have more health.
