    Thanks “Johnny” - good vid. I have had my x300 for one year and two weeks and love it. Certainly less power than my Husaberg FE390, but the x300 is way better on the road and gets 70mpg (Berg gets 45). I am 6’3” and 210 lbs - and age 71! The reason I picked the v300 is the weight - I can pick it up alone. At my age and back surgery (and crummy knees) my first priority is the ability pick it up. I ride alone in some remote places in SW Colorado, so I would be stranded with a heavy bike. I do think the v300 is an excellent beginner bike if the rider can reach the ground, but it’s also almost perfect for arthritic Geezers like me. I seldom ride over 60 mph so power is not a big deal- although 65 - 75 is well within reach, but mpg sufferers as you said. I live in the wilderness - about 6 miles from nearest pavement. I put on Mitas E-07 Plus tires and they are almost as good as knobbies - and great on pavement. Kawasaki hit a home run with this bike if you can live within the design parameters. And carving the twisties is truly amazing. I’m now planning a second trip to ride some more of the transAmerica trail (first trip in this bike) so I’ve been testing the off-road capability - quite impressed so far - including some steep, loose stuff with the new tires. Thanks again for your x300 vids. Stay safe & have fun! - Ray, near Durango, CO

      Thanks for sharing. Considering this bike for similar use. My only concern is the high revving. Does it get annoying?

    • @GeezerWheels
      @GeezerWheels 3 года назад +8

      @@SpiritOfLittleDragon The high revving is not annoying to me at all. Just realize the engine was designed for the Ninja 300 as a high revving race machine. Once you ride it a few times you just quit worrying about it - and it's way less buzzy than my Husaberg FE390. I ride very little highway - mostly a commuter bike. In Oct 2020 I rode it to Moab Utah from SW Colorado, then rode trials in Utah for 2 days, then back home. Not one issue at all. I'm 6'3" and 210 lbs so I lowered the pegs an inch and installed Rox pivoting risers for the bars (I stand up a lot - bad knees & back). I ride at 7550 ft elevation and it loses just a little power at 8,000 ft and above, but not noticeable unless I'm on a highway going uphill. The seat needs some user-added cushion, but that's not a big problem. Overall, the best mini-adventure bike on the market. (Watch Fortnine's two videos on this bike.) Good luck in your decision. If price, weight and mpg are important you to, it's a good choice. -Ray

      Hmm at 66 both shoulders, lumbar and hernia surgeries from working early and often 42 years of trucking local + road+ labor jobs pretty beat up. Loved my off road and racing on and off. 5ft 8in (and srinking) 165 pounds love my DL650/DL1000. But as you say HEAVY bikes are a pain. The only thing I would like is tubeless tires but heavy duty tubes would help peace of mind and spoke wheels rock! You make great points Ray near Durango. I just picked up a 2018 Versys 300. Love it. It sits a little taller than I thought it would…I’m only 5’9”, but it’s manageable. I’m in SW CO trying to save on some gas…tired of driving a truck with only 12mpg!

    I agree with the seat problem. I remedied this by taking it to an upholstery shop and had it done to my recommendation for $75 . I’m completely satisfied. As to the loudness, I make sure to wear earplugs. Last summer I had a 500+ trip and I loved it. My 1800 Wing was great for eating up the freeways , but I’m finding the X300 is more fun running the back roads.

    Great review, I own a 2021 Triumph Tiger Rally pro that I just bought 2 months ago and put in 2k miles and it begun to dawn on me the weight 505 lbs measured wet, which I have to keep the handle bar straight all the time when braking to prevent the bike pulling me down at stops or standing still, which you cant just keep that in mind all the time watching cross traffic, etc. to get to the unpaved parts 20% and paved 80%, love the Tiger hands down but you hit all the things that concern me on single tracks, weight, who I am as an Adventure Rider, ( a cheap frugal rider so i could travel more) lol, but I think I really have to compromise down grading err on the side of safety (not dropping the bike). It looks like this is the only adventure bike in the market, less weight, not as buzzy as a single cylinder and that could take up luggage (water, gas, tools, camping gear) that has to be at the minimum. I was looking a the versyx X 300 but somehow I went with "likes and impulse" now I have to downgrade for safety reasons. 4 years to retire then Patagonia, Europe to Central Asia. I just hope they come up with a Tenere 400 by that time before I end up buying the Versys X. I am really thankful for your video it just reinforces all what I've been thinking.

    I have both the KLR and the X300, if I had to choose between the 2 I couldn't. My KLR is heavily modified and my X300 has got every farkle possible. The X300 can pretty much go anywhere the KLR can, only complaint I have is that the X300 lacks the torque the KLR has and you can't ride off road the same. Not even close, the KLR just lugs through things and the X300 you need to wind it out like a small dirt bike ( a sledge hammer vs a knife on the trails ). I ride with a buddy that rides a CRF 250 Rally, my X300 is a better overall bike, it gives up a bit off road but other than very technical single track it beats the 250 hands down. Much more comfortable than both the KLR and CRF 250 Rally.

    Hear in Canada you get the engine guard and center stand free on last years bikes. I also went with Trekker 33 Lt. side bags look great and hold more than the stock bags. As for the seat I do 200 Km rides and have no problem did take about 2000 km to get use to it. Hear on PEI the fast roads is only 90 Km per hr so have not gone much over 100 km on it for any distance. 90 % of my riding is on 80 km roads and dirt roads, with some light trails, the Versys X 300 is a great trail bike but at slower speeds. If you want go go faster off road and still do road riding get a DR 650, it will do bough, the only thing is the small gas tank keeps you to just over 200 Km per tank the Versys X I get just over 450 Km per tank. I also think the Versys X is a better road bike than the Dr, but have done many miles on the DR 650 on the road, with no problems. As for wind I do not have a problem with it, might be the heaver bags but ride at 90 km on #2 all the time in very high winds. 50 to 80 Km winds with up to 100 km gusts one day you could feel it but the bike had no problem staying where I wanted it to be. It might also be your tires, they can make a big difference on a litter bike in the wind. I would go with the Kawasaki center stand a little more money but fits and works great, I also put a large foot on my side stand. need if you are going to do off road stops. I think I got the GIVI one bolts on in a couple of minutes. Have fun and enjoy one of the best all round bikes made today.

    Try the Air-Hawk seat cushion, I've used it on my V-strom and Harley. Works great and a heck of a lot cheaper than replacing the seat. The trick to the air hawk is not to fill it right full of air. I found that the bestwayto use it, is to fill it full of air, then sit on it ( on the bike ) and slowly release some of the air until it feels comfortable and your butt is almost touching your seat. Don't leave it over inflated as it feels wobbly and weird. You may have to play around with the air volume a bit, but once you dial it in, you'll probably never ride with out it again. Plus, it has a breathable cover on it, so even better for long days in the saddle. Thanks for the review, I've been intrigued by this bike since they came out, like most, I really hope that Kawi comes out with a 400 cc version. That would put it in direct competition with the Honda CB500X. Cheers.

      Another vote on the Air-hawk, I was struggling with pain and swamp butt on my Concours with the stock seat as well as a Corbin and I purchased one of Air-Hawk pads and I can now ride for 6-8 hours without issues. When I starting feeling something you can shift a little and the air redistributes and it really helps.

    See that it is common to go from a KLR to a X300. I just did that today. Actually went in the other day to get the KLRs. Saw the Versys and cancelled the KLR plans. Got rid of my 2022 KLR about a year after getting it because it was too tall, so it sat a lot. Got a Bandit 1250 that sat lower, and was better at highway speeds. Missed the ability to go off-road, which is what I bout the KLR to do.

    Cool review, thanks! Totally agree, it´s a good bike but it depends on what you are looking for. It´s light for off road but It feels like a 150/200cc in low revs which is good for me because I´m not a speed lover and I don´t have much experience with big motorcycles. So, I´m happy with it so far, I will see how it behaves when I go over 1000 miles and I can push the gas to high revs , I can imagine what you say about the sound.

    I have a 2023 ABS. I'm 5'6" weight 145lbs. To me the bike feels like a sit up street bike. The suspension is jarring stiff. I think if I went over a curb, it would buck me off.
    I don't think the bike knows I'm on it. I run a lower tire pressure just to soften the ride.
    I can easily ride it 100 miles with no saddle issues. The throttle is really sensitive, if the wind pushes on you it can effect the throttle movement enough to make it feel like the engine is weak.. After riding a Yamaha xt255 this thing screams and it's a Cadillac in comparison although the 225 would roll/walk right over a cube.. It's quicker than my older BMW F 650gs single, handles easier too. The windscreen is too good in the summer heat. Mine doesn't seem too buzzy, just around 60 mph I get some buzz from the foot pegs. It's louder at the engine than at the exhaust. It sounds like you are going fast but after the gear changes to 6th I look down and am only doing 60. Yeah that break-in is silly 4k rpm for the first 600 miles. That's 35mph in 6th. But right under that it says do the speed limit. The extended warranty is now $650 for 4 years.

    Cross country on highways going 60 instead of expressways going 80 makes a big difference. I don't think anyone will buy it for offroad, even with aggressive tires. Better off with a 250 dual sport.

      Kawasaki has to make a new frame to fit the 400 engine. It's not a direct fit inside the current 300 frame.

    My problem with the Versys is the feeling that I'll outgrow it too fast.
    Like sooner than later I'll be wanting for a dual sport, or wanting for a street bike. And fine, if I'm buying used and paying nothing, I don't mind a bike like that. But if I'm buying something new, with my hard earned money, I want to know that I'll keep this bike as long as possible.

    • @JohnnyNerdOut
      @JohnnyNerdOut  4 года назад

      That was my exact though too. Occasionally I wish I would've gotten the klr650, mainly when I'm merging on the freeway. Occasionally I wish I would've gotten the vulcan, or the cbx500... The list goes on. At the end of the day, I'm still happy I have this bike. I can mod it to fit it to whatever I want it to do. However, there is no replacement for displacement. So if that is a major concern, maybe check out a used klr650 or a cbx500.

      They are different bikes for sure. S40 would be better for road trips and longer rides. Versys is geared slightly towards dirt roads.

      so who the hell said that was going to happen??? Kawasaki didn't...just dumbasses on here. You want a 400 buy one...there are a few on the market. everybody whines about putting a 400 engine in this bike, then if and when Kawi did everyone would start whining about needing a 500 engine in it and Kawi probably knows that. Besides if they put a 400 in the Versys X it will raise the price $1000 and the price of this 300X is half the charm of it. So buy one or move along...

    Hi there. I just got one of these last week, but on the freeway at 65 mph, the temperature goes up to the second highest bar. So, all the bars except the top one come on. Is that normal? What does your temperature go to on freeway speeds? It is my first bike, so I don't know if this is normal or not. With cars I am used to seeing the temp at around middle point.

      To add to your paranoia... My bike came from the factory with a clogged coolant line, causing it to run hotter, and eventually the hose exploded, spilling hot coolant everywhere. Fortunately it was covered under warranty.

    Gonna use it as a car in the week and in the weekends do 100km of highway and then hit some trails.

    Another question. Mine needs 7000 rpm to do 65mph on the freeway, and around 8500 rpm to do 75 mph. Does yours do similar rpm at these speeds? The overheating light never comes on, but I am just a bit worried about such high rpm on the freeways, especially if I have to ride for some distance across town.

    • @JohnnyNerdOut
      @JohnnyNerdOut  4 года назад

      In 6th gear I believe mine is about an 8 to 1 ratio of rpm to speed. Meaning at 1k rpm I'm at 8mph, 2k-16mph,3k-24mph,4k-32mph etc. I just had to run mine near redline in 4th gear for over 500 miles. Motor didn't sweat at all.

    the lack of small adv bikes really sucks. your options seem to be a dual sport that sucks on the road and needs an oil change every 15 hours or a big adv bike that weighs 500lbs and can't actually be used to offroad. the versys and 310gs and such are down on power and not very good at offroading. i don't see how they can cram 110 hp into a 300lb ninja but not a properly sorted adv bike.
