Thank you to those of you who pointed this out and my apologies for missing it, but both Arcbond and Solar Blaze have the creatures do the damage and not the spell so they will not gain you life. I replaced them in the lists with Rough // Tumble and Torrent of Lava, but feel free to keep them in or replace them with whatever you would like!
I have a question about a deck I want to build it's based off the Hallar deck Tec that you made but I wanna know what I can do to tweak the deck before I go and drop the $200 dollars on something that doesn't work.

@@jakeapplegate6642 yeah, kinda unexpected. Its price is rising every time, so I got surprised he managed to fit that in. It's also funny how the upgrades is less pricey than Smothering Tithe :P
As a former Firesong and Sunspeaker player, I should recommend Treasonous Ogre. Being able to pay 3 life for one R mana in a lifegain deck can lead to some insane things.
As someone who Pilots a Firesong and Sunspeaker deck, I want to make sure you're very aware of something. Arcbond makes the creature deal the damage, not the spell. If you have the budget for it, and I know this deck does not, as presented, run Torbran instead.
I bought Firesong a while back and I've been scratching my head over exactly which direction to take him. Awesome deck! t's so nice when you have all the expensive cards (smothering tithe) in a budget deck as well as all the upgrades! I literally just bought a cheap Aetherflux with no place to put it yet.
Ah my friend. You’ve never experienced having a true fire captain and a damage doubling effect out yet have you? Or a star of extinction and hostility out to put thousands of power on the board and board wipe at the same time.
My personal Boros deck is a Gerrard, Weatherlight Hero but I was so tempted to run Firesong and Sunspeaker because they're so DIFFERENT from Boros' usual tactics. That and the fact it's a brother-sister pair fighting back to back that's pretty awesome. Just like Gisa and Geralf, but they fit the Dimir color pair to a T.
Hey there! Firesong and sunspeaker have been part of my deck choices since they came out, and I'm glad to see this take on it. I have most of the upgraded cards, but I've chosen to abuse wheel effects and spell cloners like reverberate, with smothering tithe. Ideally, you want to flash in an alms collector to seal their fate whenever you have a wheel on the stack. Either way, it's one of my favorite decks! Thanks for bringing these up to the spotlight.
Back when WotS was in process of being spoiled, I was looking at Firesong as a potential commander. Feather got spoiled and I immediately knew I was going to build that and started grabbing cards that day. I might look into Firesong one day, but I get the feeling that for me it would end up being one of the 99 in a Jeskai spell slinger deck
I have had a lot of success with Azor's Gateway in my build. If I can flip it. I win. Helps with card selection and provides all the mana you need for your x spells when it's flipped.
Was happy to see this. Firesong and Sunspeaker is a fav. I was really curious why he didnt recommend Aurelia's Fury because it would benefit with both of Firesong's triggers. I looked up the price and realized its almost a $2 card. Oh! he spent the budget on Smothering Tithe lol
He did it! He finally did it! I'm glad you figured out some way to get it done after you saying it would be a pain with the old budget. This makes the deck way better with $50, plus those upgrades make it look like my decklist that's 5x yours. Dingus Staff is actually ridiculous though, I didn't even know about that card, definitely going to need a copy for my deck to make it work better. Thanks for the idea! Hopefully it wasn't too bad to work with 😅
Firesong and Sunspeeker, Feather, and now Haktos, Boros is getting some very unique commanders, I’m excited for the future of that color pair in commander.
Those are some cool cards o hadn’t considered for my Firesong deck. I also use tamiyo’s journal as a way to search for certain cards every few turns and feather the redeemer to get some spell recursion. I’ve also got a few spells that are red and white and both dead damage and gain life like lightning helix, warleader’s helix, and integrity//intervention. Those count as 2 lifegain triggers for Firesong and with feather on the field I can target Firesong on every player’s turn. I’ve also got Leonin shikari and fervent champion so I can equip sunforger for free at instant speed allowing me to play more controlling spells like lapse of certainty or settle the wreckage more often
LOL you know what's *really* funny? I'm breaking out of Gruul because my niece asked me to teach her how to play red green, and this is the commander I decided to play around with. However, my list focuses on gaining life to deal damage more than dealing damage to gain life
I love comboing smothering tithe with Teferi's puzzle box. On the one hand, you do risk running your opponents into enchantment/artifact removal faster, but on the other theyre far more likely not to set mana aside to pay for tithe when theyre doing so for their entire hand.
This is a really fun deck but I run into the same problem with this commander that I have with Feather. I really want to make a Boros Legion flavored deck. I loved that original trilogy of novels with Agrus Kos. But that means running creatures, and neither of these are creature commanders. I build a lot of decks with your deck techs as my starting point so I really appreciate your content! Have you thought about posting gameplay content centered around a budget play group?
I tried it with mine a while back but it’s a little slow with just getting two tokens a turn if your casting tons of big x spells. Hostilities way more fun
Loves my fire song deck. Really just throw in any Boros burn spell. Lightning helix, deafening clarion etc to double up triggers. Or triple triggers if the burn spell also gains life since the lifelink and life gain ability are separate triggers Pyromancer goggles. I had a fun game once with hostility and star of extinction. Burn everything and turn all the excess damage into elementals to one shot the table. Then there’s a few white removal spells that also gain life. Even though they usually cost 4. Then I just threw in Haktos since he’ll survive all the board wipes I throw around
Isaac LB I home brew my commander decks and m always tweaking them when I get a new set. I don’t keep lists srry. Pretty easy deck to build though. Just throw in all the white spells that let you gain life and draw a card, guttersnipes and all the x cost and multi target burn you can get a hold of
I ran Firesong & Sunspeaker at some point with a more Boros-themed deck, using many more creatures including those that have an effect whenever you cast an instant or sorcery (examples are Pyre Hound, Electrostatic Fiend, Guttersnipe, Young Pyromancer). I have since replaced Firesong & Sunspeaker with Tajic, Legion's Edge (though the former is still in the deck), as I found myself short on mana many times.
I'm not trying to bash this video, just want to add my 2 cents for the people who want to build this deck. I play a Firesong deck and there are a couple things that I can say won't work with this list. Most of this list relies on Firesong being in play. I can tell you that the amount of times Firesong is in play for longer than 1 turn is very rare, especially if you're not running any protection at all (save for a 4 mana enchantment). It's a 6 mana commander, you can expect to cast it only once in most games, twice on rare occasions. Another aspect that tells that this list will underperform is the lack of unconditional card draw. If you're just playing a control strategy that focuses on mass removal and doesn't pressure your opponents, you will be out of gas quite soon. While you're topdecking your opponents have plenty of time to rebuild and punish you before you can find your finisher wincon. Some suggestions I can make are: Instants to protect Firesong (Boros Charm, Sheltering Light, etc) which makes Sunforger even better. Unconditional card draw effects like Treasure Map (very nice with Smothering T), Staff of Nin (is slow, but it's fine if you're the control player), Mind's Eye, Outpost Siege, Ignite the Future, Protector of the Crown (awesome if you can give this indestructible), Commune with Lava, Recoup. Other suggestion is Open the Armory, Swiftfoot Boots, Lightning Greaves and Darksteel Plate. Open the Armory can also fetch Sunforger if needed. That being said, in my experience Sunforger isn't even thát good, you're barely running any creatures to equip it to. (As far as budget is concerned, I would run all of these cards over Smothering Tithe, ramp is generally not an issue)
I have a non-budget build of Firesong and Sunspeaker, and I love it! It's one of my favourite decks. It does away with a bunch of the 'extra damage' effects and just makes an INSANE amount of mana. Extraplanar Lense, Gauntlet of Power, Doubling Cube, Azor's Gateway, etc. I usually end the game by earth-quaking everyone for around 60 damage =D
This is a good deck...I have a BIG POWER version (read cards like scoll rack and wheel of fortune)...I would suggest Soul Scar Mage to make those damage spells get rid of industructable creatures....I also run a human token sub-theme for fodder and a seconday win-con + mana echoes....things get outta hand if people sleep on me because of...well Boros.
A Boros burn deck missing Lightning Helix? The value of it on its own is good but with Firesong and Sunspeaker it is taken to a whole 'nother level. I also liked Warleader's Helix in my deck. The Helix is amazing because it deal 3 damage and gains you three life on the surface, the three damage gains you three life, which triggers Firesong and Sunspeaker for the second time with them dealing three damage twice. So for two Mana 9 damage and 6 life.
Hi, awesome Decktech, i have been putting of brewing around those two for a year now. Smart move on my part :D I do feel however that "Repercussion" would be a valuable addition to the deck. Im aware that the multiplied damage is dealt by Repercussion so its not instant/sorcery damage, but it quickly adds up even a simple Pyroclasm becomes a monster with just a few creatures out. Was this ever a consideration and the budget didnt allow it? I feel the damage potential outweighs dictate of the twin gods. Kind regards and keep up the great work!
You're missing Lightning Helix, Warleader's Helix, Integrity//Intervention, Deafening Clarion, Brightflame, Deflecting Palm, Aurelia's Fury, Boros Charm, Response//Resurgence, and Energy Bolt. All of these are red spells that deal damage so they have lifelink, and are also white spells gaining life from the lifelink damage to trigger the commander. Most of them also inherently gain life so it'll trigger Firesong and Sunspeaker an additional time.
I build a deck like this and I think you missed out on some great spells. (prices are not tcg so may vary) Arrows of Justice .25, Energy Bolt .75 ,Fire at Will .50, Intimidation Bolt .50, Integrity/intervention .25, Justice Strike .25, Lightning Helix 1.25, Response/Resurgence .75, Warleader's Helix .25 Any Red/White damages spells like Arrows of Justice get double triggers. Deals 4 damage and since it's red you gain 4 life, Then because this is a white instant gaining you life firesong deals 3 damage. Then there is Red/White spells like Lightning Helix which is both damage and life gain. Lightning Helix triggers for a total of 9 damage and 6 life. It resolves LH 3 damage, Lifelink 3 life, Firesong 3 damage, LH 3 life and Firesong 3 damage. Some more expensive spells to add to great effect are Aurelia's Fury 2.5, Boros Charm 4.5 and Deflecting Palm 2.00
I've been playing fs&ss for about a year and surprisingly, it is easily the most competitive of all of my 12+ decks. Lightning helix? Warleader helix? Two mana 9 demage and 4 for 10 if FnS is out . (Helix lifegain is a seperated trigger which FnS sees also the spell itself gives the lifegain so FnS sees it as well.) I prefer them ower pyroblast but you arguable.
New to MtG in general so I'm confused on how sun forger interacts with some of our instant spells. There a few instant spells with an X cost and a corresponding X effect that goes with it. How are we ever supposed to trigger that X effect if we never pay for it?
I'm confused on how sunforger is useful. Most of the instants are x cost, right? If you don't pay their mana cost than x is 0 so you do 0 damage so getting it out with sunforger is completely useless. I'm probably missing something but that's what it looks like to me.
Thank you to those of you who pointed this out and my apologies for missing it, but both Arcbond and Solar Blaze have the creatures do the damage and not the spell so they will not gain you life. Looking here for ideas for licia sanguine tribune
Darien, King of Kjeldor
Is this enough boardwipes to break the commander code?
Yes, I built it and my friends hate it
@@bluesight_ Lmao.
The video has only been out a few days, you've gotten the chance to build and test it already? I'm impressed
@@lilacpilot3437 fs&ss has been out since Dominaria my dude, ive been playing this deck for about a year. It's not like Mitch is doing anything original with it, just look at edhrec
No Mistveil Plains in reasonable upgrades OR main deck to combo with Sunforger? 🥺
3 suggestions for this deck
Shivan Meteor
Angrath's Marauders
Dual Casting
And taking the chance i wanted to ask for a video making a budget Melek's deck
Dude I'd love to see a budget mogis if that's possible???
I've always wanted to build a Minotaur tribal deck called "Me so horn-y"...
I really want to see what you'd do with one of the demigods from theros beyond death!
super sick
If a red/white spell gains lifelink, will it then activate life gain effect of the commander?
Yup. There’s even ways to get three triggers out of the commander if you use a Boros spell that burns and also gains life on its own
Nice deck, Can I suggest you a rashmi edh deck Tech?
I'm surprised Syr Carah wasn't in the card advantage section.
Boros reckoner seems good unless I missed that it was added.
Can you do a Deck of Kethis?
Can you do a video on Marath will of the Wild?? :O
Now if only Soulfire Grand Master can be in this.
New to MtG in general so I'm confused on how sun forger interacts with some of our instant spells. There a few instant spells with an X cost and a corresponding X effect that goes with it. How are we ever supposed to trigger that X effect if we never pay for it?
You don't. Unfortunately the X will always be zero when you pay no mana for those spells.
Hmm, would Emergence Zone and Felidar Sovereign in the deck works?
Yup it gains massive amounts of life so sovereign and aether flux are both pretty consistent win cons
I feel like you need to have a calculator on the table when playing this deck and another person just to verify that your math is indeed correct lol
Star of extinction surely isn't a hard one to fit into the budget. Oh tokens hey, don't mind me casually gaining a couple hundred life
Revitalize would be great for this deck. 1W gain 3 life, draw a card. I feel like people are sleeping on this white cantrip
Anyone got a link to the list of cards for this deck?
50th like, bois my uncle turned 50 today, what the helk
Surprised to not see Repercussion on the upgrades list, it can win games out of nowhere against token decks
No Torbran? That surprises me.
Played against this one a few times, can gain you a crazy amount of life with just 1 spell under the right board position.
I'm confused on how sunforger is useful. Most of the instants are x cost, right? If you don't pay their mana cost than x is 0 so you do 0 damage so getting it out with sunforger is completely useless. I'm probably missing something but that's what it looks like to me.
Smothering Tithe might be the first time I've seen you go over 2$ for a single card.
Smothering Tithe = Best White Card ever printed for EDH. Change my mind.
Does Lightning Helix proc Sunspeakers second ability twice?
Yup
