Thraximundar, the most Metal sounding Magic Legend ever. And his art even looks like it belongs on a van or album cover. THERE ISN'T ENOUGH ROOM IN THE EARTH FOR THE BODIES
Funny enough, someone made a Thraximundar deck where every card sounds like it could be a metal band name tappedout.net/mtg-decks/07-04-16-thraximundar/
Awesome looking deck. Built your grixis Inalla wizards, and I can see this plays waaayyy differently even though the decks have the same colours. This variety is why I love your brews and why I love MTG as a whole. Much love from South Africa and cheers to your patron Killian for the suggestion.
Me, before: I don’t really like playing black that much Me, after seeing the Thraximundar Secret Lair art: on second thought I’m gonna need that grixis deck list
Thanks Mitch! Thrax is the first commander I ever built a deck around in this format. 6 years later, I've been thinking a lot about showing that deck some more love and redesigning it. Couldn't have dropped this video at a better time.
I've always wanted to build Thraximundar in this style! I've tried once or twice but always seem to have issues making it truly effective. Thank you so much for taking the time Mitch!
MITCH! I've been wanting to brew this deck for some time. I've been trying to find a fun way to "make people suffer" with deck. I loved this video. Thanks to YOU and your patron! P.S. he's from Minnesota, I'm from Wisconsin! Hello neighbor!
I had a similar deck back in the day. It was particularly good in the control/combo meta in my group back then. Thrax was usually cast after most of my opponents used most of their answers at the rest of my deck and couldn't do much for him. I also ran ways to take away key cards like sadistic sacrament and tolarian winds. If i kicked sad sac early some how the combo player just scooped if they couldn't respond to it. Lol
I literally just built a prototype of this deck yesterday. xD Thanks for the suggestion! I hadn't even heard about Barter In Blood before! Such a good card for this deck.
You had a card in your deck tech that could revive a creature and bring another one back to your hand. I personally prefer Victimize, because it puts both creatures directly into play. I also love the enchantment Dawn of the Dead. You get to revive a creature every turn for 1 life. And if you have a sac outlet, you don't have to worry about it being exiled. One of my favorite things to do is to keep bringing back something like Endrek Sahr. He can provide a ton of fodder. I'm also surprised you don't have something like Syr Konrad in here. A lot of things are gonna be put into graveyards.
A great add to this deck would be Ruthless Deathfang. It is 4UB for a 4/4 Flying dragon that says "Whenever you sacrifice a creature, target opponent sacrifices a creature." Currently 5 cents on tcgplayer.
thieving amalgam would work in the later game. with access to three colours, it is possible to flip the manifested cards. vampiric rites can assist in getting some cards from the multi creatures.
Have a friend that ripped apart the Willhelt the Rotcleaver precon to make Thraximunder, exploit, reflections of litjara, and rooftop storm have been pretty sick additions to it, make zombie tokens, exploit and sac em, rack up the +1/+1's and have a big old beatstick, and watch him paint the world red 🤘
9:20 I’m confused on wording does he mean REMOVE a -1/-1 counter or just neutralize the counter. Because as far as I know +1/+1 counters don’t remove a -1/-1 counter they’re both counters on the creature
Been trying to make Thrax work as an aristocrat deck since I started playing commander. Gave up when Korvold came out and havent looked back since. But maybe I should pick him back up again and give this approach a try...
I feel like Syr konrad would be a good fit for this deck I may included in my version to see if it will work. I have a feeling the casting cost will be too high for the curve
I like the theme, but you might want to add destroy effects, like in Garruk's Wake, because this deck won't be doing too much against a deck with Sigarda. Also, Bankrupt in Blood is a good alternative to Altar Reap
Been interested in building one with him for some time so this will be great inspiration! Think I'll throw in mogis God of slaughter though to really make em suffer lol
Seems like such a fun commander! I guess one thing stopping me from building him is his high CMC... he gets sent back to the Command Zone a couple of times, and the tax is just crazy. Even more so without green around. :(
I know this comment is 3 years old but i'm watching this now after reworking thrax a few times and "Rooftop Storm" is a wicked strong card in the deck if you can get it out. and counters that exact problem to a point.
Wouldn’t sheoldred be a good upgrade? At everyone’s upkeeep that player sacrifices a creature but on your turn you return one from your grave to the field
Interesting deck! I like making people sacrifice their stuff. I even made a sacrifice deck helmed by Ashling, the Extinguisher. All fun hehe. Say Mitch, do you plan on making a Klothys deck anytime soon? I keep trying to figure out how to make a good deck with that card but I just can't get into a single direction with it it seems.
Great deck tech, but one question, is there a particular reason you didn't run butcher of malakir? I saw the commander and thought that would be the golden pig so I was surprised to not see it in the list at all
The deck is cool but i think its to creature based or to unprotected against creature destruction.... if you want your commander to live id say darksteel armor or both boots would be nice.... and if you have the $ id say Sheoldred is a must :P
I could write a thesis about how all black decks should be running Innocent Blood. One mana. One mana for a card that has such a high ceiling of effectiveness, in the right circumstances it can be a board clear and even when it's not sacrificing gets around indestructible and hexproof and shroud, for crying out loud it's one mana for something that can affect everyone! It's a common! In black aristocrat you usually want to be sacrificing your creatures anyway! IT'S ONE MANA, PEOPLE.
Why isn't there any equipment or auras that give trample or unlockable? Admittedly I can understand not wanting unlockable as much but trample makes your opponent really have to feed the beast.
"...this deck's going to focus on making opponents sacrifice things and making them suffer."
Good to know we're keeping things wholesome.
Eric Lowry happy Valentine’s Day
Commanders quarters is likely solely responsible for the price increase for wayfarers bauble
this is why i play MTGO
Thraximundar, the most Metal sounding Magic Legend ever.
And his art even looks like it belongs on a van or album cover.
THERE ISN'T ENOUGH ROOM IN THE EARTH FOR THE BODIES
yeah might build him just because of the metal aesthetic
Funny enough, someone made a Thraximundar deck where every card sounds like it could be a metal band name
tappedout.net/mtg-decks/07-04-16-thraximundar/
It's not legendary but Rain of Filth is my vote for most metal name haha
@@EbonyButter Some of these should be album names, not band names.
Funny how I see this comment after seeing the new secret lair with thraximundar in it that's metal as hell
2:22 First off there's Wayfarer's Bauble.
perfect valentines day deck ngl

"First off there's Wayfairer's Bauble" always a joy hearing that phrase when the deck can afford it
Me, before: I don’t really like playing black that much
Me, after seeing the Thraximundar Secret Lair art: on second thought I’m gonna need that grixis deck list
Thanks Mitch! Thrax is the first commander I ever built a deck around in this format. 6 years later, I've been thinking a lot about showing that deck some more love and redesigning it. Couldn't have dropped this video at a better time.
i want a shirt that says "first up there's wayfarers bauble which we can pay 2 to tap and sacrifice to put a basic land onto the battlefield tapped"
I think I may make a design sometime that's just "First up, there's Wayfarer's Bauble"
It That Betrays is so insane with this deck! Glad that you haven’t forgotten about it
I've always wanted to build Thraximundar in this style! I've tried once or twice but always seem to have issues making it truly effective. Thank you so much for taking the time Mitch!

Hey neighbor! Glad you enjoyed three deck tech! I'm so glad mitch did this and he did such a wonderful job!
I had a similar deck back in the day. It was particularly good in the control/combo meta in my group back then. I also ran ways to take away key cards like sadistic sacrament and tolarian winds. If i kicked sad sac early some how the combo player just scooped if they couldn't respond to it. Lol
Thrax was my first commander and I still have his deck years later. I’m pumped for this video!
I literally just built a prototype of this deck yesterday. xD
Thanks for the suggestion! I hadn't even heard about Barter In Blood before! Such a good card for this deck.
I can looking for deck building ideas and I was not disappointed. Well done!
I loved the intro from Killian! What a amazing way to honour a patron!
Glad to see my favorite zombie assassin artist getting some love
Thrax was my first EDH general way back in 2011 :) This was great to listen to
So glad you have this deck tech! Needed a list for that Thraximundar secret lair!
Is it even a deck by Mitch without Wayfarers Bauble?
Alec Cobham yes. Several, actually
@@BajaBlastUrUterus42069 party pooper
Jelava was the first commander deck I ever got I've Loved nekusar and and thrax since both are such fun and oddball ways to play magic
Just built a Marchesa deck and Thrax works amazing with her on the field
Really sweet deck! Would love to see you do a tech on Yennett, Cryptic Sovereign :D
You had a card in your deck tech that could revive a creature and bring another one back to your hand.
I personally prefer Victimize, because it puts both creatures directly into play.

Always nice to watch a video from Wayfarer's quarters.
A great add to this deck would be Ruthless Deathfang. It is 4UB for a 4/4 Flying dragon that says "Whenever you sacrifice a creature, target opponent sacrifices a creature." Currently 5 cents on tcgplayer.
I've been meaning to make a deck around this Commander as my Grixis deck. So thanks for some awesome ideas.
And this is why I have Sigarda, Host of Herons as a commander.
All jokes aside, i’d like to see your own design take on wayfares bauble with your channel theme as a playmat. That’d be so cool
Can’t wait to build this one around Secret Lair Thrax. Going to be my first non pre-con commander deck.
My friend had a tharximundar deck when I first started commander and I thought it was the best deck ever.
thieving amalgam would work in the later game. with access to three colours, it is possible to flip the manifested cards. vampiric rites can assist in getting some cards from the multi creatures.
I have never wanted a commander deck more in my life.
Just got the custom art Thraximundar card. So hyped to build this deck.
Have a friend that ripped apart the Willhelt the Rotcleaver precon to make Thraximunder, exploit, reflections of litjara, and rooftop storm have been pretty sick additions to it, make zombie tokens, exploit and sac em, rack up the +1/+1's and have a big old beatstick, and watch him paint the world red 🤘
awesomee i actually waiting for a deck tech of thraximundar from you, mitch!!! thanks!!!
I'm gonna include more sacrifice synergy, including Mayhem Devil and Ruthless Deathfang.
Was thinking the same thing!
That commander has a badass flavor text.
I'm revisiting this and probably going to get the entire thing solely as an excuse to get the heavy metal Thraximundar
A pet favorite of mine in thraximundar is urborg justice
9:20 I’m confused on wording does he mean REMOVE a -1/-1 counter or just neutralize the counter. Because as far as I know +1/+1 counters don’t remove a -1/-1 counter they’re both counters on the creature
No, they do actually cancel each other if a creature has +1/+1 counters and a -1/-1 they both dissapear until only one type remains
Been trying to make Thrax work as an aristocrat deck since I started playing commander. Gave up when Korvold came out and havent looked back since. But maybe I should pick him back up again and give this approach a try...
I’d love to see a Kresh deck. He gets out of hand very quickly
Now that's a sweet one
I wanted more videos of tribal decks, I love this type of deck, they are so fun hahaha
Butcher of Malakir would be great in this
Minnesota Pride!!!

Interesting tech
Who's coming here to build it because of the new secret lair? 😂
Yes.
Plus a few substitutions of my own.
A Good addition would be "it that betrays"
because then you get every permanent your opponent sacrifices
Cool I’ve never been this early
I'm sure your gf sees it different
@@1nf3ct3dTT let's be honest. we're all magic nerds, we dont have girlfriends.
Flippin sweet brah
Why no [Mayhem Devil]? It’s in color and it does some work with sacrificing things. Maybe it’s not impactful?
This deck loooves the upgrade to It That Betrays... once that thing hits the table people are gonna panic
Been interested in building one with him for some time so this will be great inspiration! Think I'll throw in mogis God of slaughter though to really make em suffer lol
What about adding the Witch’s Oven & Cauldron Familiar combo?

No dislikes. Impressive.
I would really like to see a balthor the defiled deck. I think it would be fun
I think you missed "Eldrazi Conscription", in the upgrades. :P
What if you did Kresh the Bloodbraided too? Their arts kinda connect
Wouldn’t sheoldred be a good upgrade? At everyone’s upkeeep that player sacrifices a creature but on your turn you return one from your grave to the field
A great upgrade for sacrifice fodder could be Gravecrawler
how do you cheat the big eldrazi into play?
Why run black draw spells when you have blue as an option?
Rooftop storm turns thrax into a possible sac outlet also...

No "killing wave"?
What about Assault Suit so you don't have to sacrifice Thraxi himself?
Do you think this commander could do well in a casual mutate deck?
10:23
QUEST FOR THE JANKLORD! QUEST FOR THE JANKLOR! QUEST FOR THE JANKLORD!
Just asking why no butcher of malakir
It that betrays come on
Whenever an opponent sacrifices a nontoken permenant return the permenant to your field under your control
Great deck tech, but one question, is there a particular reason you didn't run butcher of malakir? I saw the commander and thought that would be the golden pig so I was surprised to not see it in the list at all
Sweet deck!
No grixis panorama as a land upgrade?
To bad all the devine reckoning/single combat/cataclysm effects are in white. Otherwise they would work wonderful with thraximundar.
Couldn’t a Ruthless Deathfang go well with that as whenever you sacrifice a card opponents sacrifice one as well?
I love the deck but can u do a ZOMBIE TRIBAL thrax sac deck teck? Specifically focusing on zombie synergy and sacrifice.
Do more zombie commanders. Zombie tribal is legendary in every format.
Every episode wayfarers bauble goes up, soon Mitch will have a monopoly on the market supply.
Where is the Butcher of Malakir?
Finally!!!!
The deck is cool but i think its to creature based or to unprotected against creature destruction.... if you want your commander to live id say darksteel armor or both boots would be nice.... and if you have the $ id say Sheoldred is a must :P
I find myself wondering if you're going to do a silver boardered deck.
ashnod's altar? Sheoldred? They're a little more expensive but not totally unreasonable.
Endless cockroaches is a good addition to this deck as well.
Pathrazer of Ulamog should be in this deck!
The Bauble price is getting out of hand, soon Mitch is gonna start his budget deck techs with "First off, there's Sol Ring".
Not going to lie now I want to build this deck
Great video 👍👌👏💯

Why isn't there any equipment or auras that give trample or unlockable? Admittedly I can understand not wanting unlockable as much but trample makes your opponent really have to feed the beast.
Why no Butcher Of Malakir? Does the same thing as Dictate, is super cheap AND can hit people in the face for 5 in the air...
