Raytracing has different characteristics, it can be used for shadows, global illumination, reflections, ambient occlusion or path tracing, each can be implemented separately or all together. In the case of Halo Infinite it was only implemented for shadows produced by sunlight. That's why it looks identical where there is no sunlight, you should have emphasized only the shadows produced by sunlight to demonstrate the difference, and even then, you can't ask for such a massive change, the pre-established shadows were already good simulation. Putting ray tracing on the shadows will only make them look a little softer or there will be a little more detail in them. Obviously just using one of the many raytracing features will not make the game change that much but it is not about criticizing without even knowing which feature was used. Other games like Battlefield 2042 only use ray tracing in ambient occlusion, so it would be foolish to look at the water reflections, shadows, global lighting of the stage and say that it is poorly implemented because there are no differences when what you should have checked was ambient occlusion. Clearly the more of these features are used, the more difference there will be in the game visually.
Well, that's why most of the footage for the video was captured on outdoor locations/locations without artificial lighting, as you can see. I'm aware of this, so I didn't compare the reflections and I'm not criticising the work of raytracing in this game. The comparison is made only to show the key differences :)
There are proper comparison videos, it only affects the shadows and gives it a nice touch, but they should fully implement it. The campaign would look fantastic.
It's only the sun shadows that are raytraced. No lights, GI, AO, Reflections. Really wish I was full raytracing support because it would look really good.
Honestly i cant ever tell the difference in “ray traced” games. Unless i stand perfectly still or go out of my way to find a reflection. Never going to understand the hype behind ray tracing. Seems only 2 games have a noticeable difference (minecraft/metro). So not worth the 30-50fps drop.
For the life of me I can't understand why 343 wouldn't want to sink dev time into an RT implementation that addresses the base game's visual weak points. Something like RT GI would have been a much much better use of their time and resources since it actually would have a transformational effect on how the game looks.
@@dew4h well obviously. Halo is a competitive multiplayer shooter. If RT was as extensive and demanding as pathtracing in Cyberpunk no one would use it. Although I do wish they included reflections, shadows look much better with it on
@@riston7264 Yeah, but the version of it that is available in Halo reduces performance by only ~10%, which is almost unnoticeable, so It would be nice to have more advanced ray tracing option at least for campaign, which would improve the visuals significantly but would take around 20-30% of performance
They made it free cuz they convinced themselves they were bouta make Fortnite money with their shop selling skinsb but ig they forgot Halo isnt Fornite

am i the only person who sees no difference?
no.
There is some noticeable difference at 2:15, 4:09, 5:10, 5:33 and 7:24 but real Ray Tracing would have a much stronger impact on the visuals for sure

Yes
Yes lol
Corporate needs you to tell the difference between these 2 pictures.
They're the same picture.

And cyberpunk.

It's 343. They're known for being shit.
Ray tracing is unnecessary, lowers game performance without quality gain. 🤷
ZERO difference
is this a troll
Its called half assing the shit out of ray tracing. Its barely implemented. Classic 343i
Great game but shit ray tracing
lol wow 343.... this is NOT Ray Tracing...
It is raytracing. it is tracing the rays from the sun to objects, creating more realistic shadows. How is that not raytracing???
@@riston7264 I think it is just a significantly simplified version of it (comparing to Cyberpunk`s Path Tracing or Ray Tracing in Metro Exodus)

@@dew4h totally agree about campaign.
crap game. 343 messed up H4 and H5 and messed up Infinite so bad they had to give the multiplayer away for free.
I wouldn't say it's crap, but of course it could be better

Seems to me like most companies think they can be fortnite too.@@Master__Chief117
Stopped after maxing rank at two months from the games launch. There was nothing else to do - crap game.
Well, that was 2 years ago tho. It improved since then. Nothing wrong if you don't feel compelled to play again either.@@Zebrahhh
Damn. Infinite's ray tracing is actual fraud.
Wow, so useless
343 invented the Ray Traced Idiocy. Great.
