I use an old 64GB Ipod Touch in the cubby hole, and it lives there permanently. The USB port charges the iPod and my house WiFi can communicate with it, so I can update my podcasts etc without even bringing it into the house. To control the iPod, I use the steering wheel controls and do not have to touch my phone. You may not choose to use the USB port, but to describe it it as next to useless is simply wrong, and having a wired connection is certainly not going to degrade the sound quality. Sorry for sounding miserable on my first comment, I enjoy your videos!
Does the steering wheel button communicate to the iPod through the USB port? Now if the steering wheel buttons sent signals to the aux jack that can somehow communicate with your phone, that would be pretty sweet, but I'm not sure it can do that. They probably sell aux cablea that has buttons built in tk control the phone's music player, but it may not be possible to use the steering wheel control for that.
@@zzoinks The Aux connection is purely for audio so it cannot be used to control a device like it can with the USB connection. Since I wrote my comment, my two iPods stopped working with the car, I don't know if the problem is with the iPods or the car stereo, so I now use the bluetooth/Aux method. I use a 7" Amazon Fire tablet for music/podcasts and leave my phone connected via the car's Bluetooth handsfree system.
The USB-port does provide 500mA I think and that should be enough to actually keep the Bluetooth receiver charged at all times since it had a DC5V input I saw. You just need to find a USB-C to USB-A cable and you wouldn't need to care for the battery life of the device any longer.
Hi, great videos, please keep them coming. The link to Amazon doesn't appear to be working and I can't now find the product on. Do you have an up to date link to the product? Thanks
The USB port works well I have a San disk short usb formatted to fat32 and make sure all the files are MP3 and it works well. If it has another type of file flac etc it throws up an error. I have a Bluetooth adapter that uses the aux and usb and the issue I have is that when a phone call comes in I have to disconnect the bt and then the phone engages. It could just be my phone
I have a 2009 S80 and my iPhone charges and plays music through the usb. It didn’t work initially, however I found that I just had to update the Music app on my phone and it fixed the issue.
Same here. And, you have to have at least one song actually downloaded to the phone (I used Apple Music to play music, but it stopped working, once I bought and downloaded one song it worked)
I used vparts bluetooth for music. It connects to under mid console and even uses oem plug. Only need + and - from sigaret egniter. But how did you get your phone connected with original radio?
@@SergejA1 yes but for me its not important because i have phone right on the dash so i can answer from phone but it would be nice if the voice comes from speakers
@@tanelrandla that is true, I'm interested in this as well. I must admit I have found the microphones to be there. Maybe this can be activated using vida?
On another note, as mentioned below I have a 2009 S80 but when I press the “Phone” button on the radio, a msg is displayed saying “Car not equipped with phone” any idea how to get my phone to work with the car radio so I can call people?
Nice video! Description link unfortunately not working. Only downside with this is that you can't select music from your car like if you connect through the USB.

Thanks Simon, that is a fantastic use for it! A far better way of doing it than with a Bluetooth adapter!

In Volvo's defense, Mercedes did the exact same thing in this era with their S classe. Bluetooth music actually got introduced first in the E classe.

You have a usb port in your car. Was it from the beginning and what does it do? Does it also play media or just charge?

The answer to this problem is: GROM audio
Can you make folders and access the folders through the menu?
I have a fm receiver that sounds just fine for my liking don’t have to worry about charging it just hop in and start the car and it’s up and ready.
Is there a way that I can hear Bluetooth music and switch songs on the steering wheel controls?
Can u use steering wheel controls to forward so songs
Grom audio kits are very good.
I purchased a xc70 2009 it already as a kenwood parrot bluetooth that does phone calls and plays music but I have not a clue how to work it
Announce the XC70 already! 😜

But how did you get your phone connected with original radio?
You will need the Bluetooth phone as an option. For some reason my 09 v8 Exec doesn't have this option... So it's not standard.
@@SergejA1 maybe we have but need to activate?
@@tanelrandla well that could be, but we would still miss the buttons to actually pick up, hang up and go to the phonebook.

Got the exact same device and just won't pair now, when was working works great. Now just can't connect
What is the make and model of the kit you are connecting
