The Weber SmokeFire pellet Grill is designed to be a great steak searing grill...not just a pellet smoker. The Weber engineers told me they designed the new Weber SmokeFire Pellet Cooker to sear great steaks without the need of extra parts or hassle.
I got a chance to grill some steaks (and Harry cooked some grilled salmon) and I have to say if you are looking for a one size fits all pellet grill or smoker that can do everything, this video is worth a look. Searing perfection is hard to come by without charcoal but this grill did a great job with our New York strip steaks, salmon, shrimp and chicken. What do you think? Will it sear?
More content coming on this grill... stay tuned.

If the Weber can truly sear like that and still smoke as well as other pellet smokers it's a game changer.....
Not only that but sear across the whole grate. Very interesting. Hope these come to the UK.
Louisiana can. I demo them. Easily gets to 600+ if you want.
What's cool about it is it sears great without the need of extra parts going in or out, but the real benefits of this grill in my mind is the engineering design choices that aren't so obvious. Too much to write here, but I'll do a video about it.
@@benjismith593 the Louisiana can on one small section of the grill over the fire pot after you set it up to which is a bit of a PITA switching between smoking and searing especially if it's hot. It's better searing than most pellet smokers offer, yes but, a process to use. My buddy has a rectec. Beautiful pellet smoker. It doesn't sear for shit though. I had to tell him straight. Trying to sell me on the "sear kit" aluminum bars increasing the 500° temperature by 100° to 600°. Lol. Could hardly see where the sear marks were. Other than that the rectec is amazing. That's been my hesitation on committing to a pellet smoker. My deck already has a smoker, a flat top griddle, a Weber propane, and a Weber kettle. With the Smokefire I can get rid of everything except the griddle .
@@BabyBackManiac I think I noticed the side walls are double walled, is the lid as well? Also very curious about build up and clean up along the bottom walls. I know it channels into a tray with the ash. Wonder if the grease build up could possibly flare up were you to suddenly crank it up for some steaks after a few cooks. Is the fire pot stainless steel? Why not SS grates? Did it really affect the cook or was it a price point thing? Don't care for the porcelain coated center hood diffuser thing. Lol. That stuff disintegrates where I live from the salt water. Thanks for the reviews.
That looks amazing... The SmokeFire has really surpassed my expectations.. looks like Weber did it's home work and seems reasonably priced. Take Care just... and it does not surprise me at all that you are here... you are a great Weber rep!
Thanks Johnny. I really appreciate that.

What are the prices for the the grills?
I service your house. you are a bad ass
@@stacypressley4811 $1000 for the small one and $1200 for the big one.
@@victorbitter583 ouch
@@taccosnachos It's $1000 for a 22" WSM here in Aus. That is ouch.
Looked like fun Justin.
Weber always makes a quality product that’s why I didn’t hesitate to pre order this grill. I can’t wait to get it now
I was planning on getting Traeger but after seeing this video it’s going to be Weber for me for sure I’m so happy they’re coming out with one of these because I love their products, and I’ve got several of their grills already. Thanks for doing the video. The way they stand behind their products for their warranty is enough to make me buy it.
I have to say, that was the best-looking steak I've ever seen coming off that grill.
If you’ve every used a Weber Gas grill you feel right at home.
@@BabyBackManiac Only a 26er and a Rancher over here, but this looks very interesting. BTW thanks for all that you do.
The prepped steaks looked good sitting in the foil pan prior to appropriate 'baptism.' My dad always said: "it is hard to mess up a good piece of meat."
Oh Boy, that looked like a lot of fun at the Weber facility and the new entry into the Pellet world of grilling. I still love the 3 burner weber I bought a couple of decades ago. I am just about due for another cast Iron grill surface as I tend to cook for only me and the misses the right side doesn't get used that much and while I wasn't paying it much attention it has started to rust a bit. The left side is seasoned well and is in good shape. The new Weber pellet is intriguing just hope it's not too pricey.
Thanks for posting from this event. 3 quick things 1) So happy that Weber is seeing you as the "Voice" that you are to those of us that love backyard live fire cooking. So Congrats on that 2) I hope in your over all review you speak on the price point and how it compares to the other pellets on the market. )3 and finally. Do you see this as a backyard only or does this have a place in the comp world? Great to see you posting videos again sir and thanks for all you do!
1) thank you. you are very kind
2) 1199 for the bigger one. 999 for the smaller one.
3) I'm sure it will have a place. Alot of folks use pellet grills already and this one is going to be more reliable and cheaper than many similar priced alternatives.
I have a Pit Boss and have to say that at high temps we don't perceive much wood flavor or anything that compares to the charcoal flavor from my performer. How was the flavor at high temps from your recent experience? You and Harry are the only reason I got interested in Weber pellet grill, but don't want to make the expense if the outcome is going to be the same as my current pellet grill. Thank you for your videos by the way.
I think the Weber is really cool but I wouldn't lay out the money if I was happy with my current cooker. It will still be around whenever you are up for buying a new one.
Regarding smoke flavor at high temps, my experience is the same as yours. Hope this helps.
@@BabyBackManiac Thank you. I really enjoy your content and look forward to future videos on this product.
This is what I was hoping for from the Weber; however, lots are buying pellet grills for smoking as well. How good is it at that? That and baking is about all my Traeger is good for.
We didn't have enough time (was only at Weber for 4 hours) to do a full hands on smoke session but the brisket they made on it before we got there so we could try it was really good.
I want to get my hands on one and do my own tests.
Can't wait for the complete review. I'm very interested in this. Good stuff Justin!
It's cool, bro. You'll have to fill in you pool. lol
It's awesome to see more manufacturer's making pellet grills. competition is good and the SmokeFire looks very competitive.
Can't help but be a little bit envious. I've got a Traeger and I use my regular grill for searing. Not a big deal to have use both for some good steaks, but to be able to do it on the same grill is definitely a benefit. Seems like a good deal from Weber, gotta be honest.
Great videos as usual... quick question for you... Did you measure the grill grate sizes for the smaller version? Might order one, but weber only has Sq Inches... which does not really help anyone out... Thanks! Ju
Weber is lucky to have you on its side Weber fan for at least 30 plus years
Awesome ! Absolutely Awesome!
That was an amazing demo for a pellet grill - it actually sear a steak! Your steak looked extremely yummy! The salmon that Sifu Soo did looked awesome! Best wishes to you and the family! 🧧🤙🌺
Justin the new Weber SmokeFire Pellet Grill looks amazing! Looks like a lot of grill with a very reasonable price point! I'm impressed!
Rumor has it to be $100-$200 under a Traeger, thats a lot of grill for an even larger boat load of cash.
@@bradleydavidsankey $999 for the small one and $1199 for the big one.
That’s exactly right, Larry
TheWolfePit thats not bad then compared to the other pricing that was floating around.
WOW! Weber knows how to do a roll out! Impressive! Very cool! Awesome grill marks!
It was only a matter of time until Weber got involved in pellet smokers, but if you can grill a steak , chicken or fish with fire like that , oh boy this changes everything . Someone in the comments below brought up a very good question, were the flames from the grill caused from a grease fire or actual flames from the grill ?
Get your sizzle on!! So was Harry there ha ha
Great video, such interesting stuff YES. Big BIG thumbs up 👍
Thanks buddy.
It looks like a really nice pellet cooker and cool that it gets up to 600. Seared like a champ and it was fun watching you and Harry cook up in that kitchen. Great video Justin!
hmm...interesting for different style cooks. I will have to see more demos as it didn't look like there was a way to keep your 'safety zone' when direct grilling. Great initial demo!
I asked them to remove the top rack for the video. That would be your safety zone in real life.
@@BabyBackManiac I see...except it is not like turning off an end burner or something similar. I hardly ever use the 'top rack' as I sometimes still get too much heat and it gets in the way more often than not. Thanks for the response.
@@-ram-m2664 I agree with you. I'm just pointing out it's there since I took it out of the grill
So I was planning on buying the ironwood 885, but now I'm going to wait on ur review to make my decision. It seems like it's as good if not better but cheaper?? Hope the review comes soon!!!
Nice job, Justin! Looked like a great time. Look forward to the full review.
👍🏼👍🏼🔥🔥
Thanks for uploading your videos so quick. I can't wait to place an order.
Even if it's at least equally as good as the competition, 10/10 I'm buying the Weber because of their customer service.
Thanks so much Justin...Cannot wait for a full review so we know the ins and outs of this pellet grill!!!
I have always wanted a pellet grill, but never bought it because it isn't as good at searing. It looks like this new Weber is changing the game
I think that was one of their primary goals. They want this to be a true pellet "grill" and not just a pellet smoker.
And it sucks for I just got a treager 6 weeks ago. If I only knew.
My GMG sears good. I just wish it were built a bit different like the weber where you have an open flame to lick the steaks.
I have a treager now and I never get that kind of flare up with the large pan under the grate. It looks like Webers' flavorizer bars really give this grill versatility from low and slow too hot and fast. You are really the only channel showing these grills in action. Weber is lucky to have your support. Well done. I was set on buying another treager, but now I want a Weber!
Harry Soo is doing it too.
Rich Reo thanks for watching! Yeah, go check out Harry’s videos!
Not sure I would like the flare up. Need to see more before I trade in my Trager.
I bought a smoker that claimed to be a grill also, but one pot doesn't do the trick, so I had to buy a charcoal grill for steaks and flat meats. I still like the smoker and so does everyone else but it just doesn't grill.
The big question that needs to be answered is... How well will it maintain cook temp in an outdoor environment? It doesn't look like the lid is insulated at all, and there is no gasket on the lid as you can see by all the smoke pouring out around the lid when it was closed. If smoke gets out, so does heat. Very interested in your field tests once you get it.
Good question, but I don't think it will be an issue. Weber has an entire section of their property dedicated to outdoor testing grills in Chicago (which gets cold)...and even spot set up where they can replicate temperatures of hot climates. The inside stuff in this video was just so we'd be comfortable. lol.
@@BabyBackManiac gotta make sure those horizontal vents aren't facing into the wind. I get why they didn't go with the vertical stack, but I believe their solution has issues as well.
Aww man I have 18 cookers one of which is a woodwind which is only 2 years old but this looks like a game changer! Or .... I just want it lol
Marco Sanchez I have 5 Weber cookers, but this is a must have item I think! I’ll be cooking on it by Thanksgiving next year.
Looks like Weber just turned the pellet industry on its head! Great job Justin!
Never seen a pellet smoker get that hot. Damn I’m intrigued on this one.
My Traeger and Rec Tec get up to 600 degrees but flare-ups on Traeger only happen when there is a tremendous amount of Grease dripping over the sides making contact with flame. Almost impossible on Traeger but it has happened. My Rec Tec is a pellet grill that looks like an old school Round Weber grill and I bought that one because it is compact easy to move around for searing. The Rec Tec does flare up but just the right amount for searing.
Harry rocked it!
Man, that looked like so much fun!
Just saw this. Thanks, It was!
Wow, that's incredible. I was hoping Weber was going to hit it out of the park with this new grill and from what I've seen they have delivered. Great video, Justin. Awesome job, Weber! BTW, do you know what kind of pellets they were using?
I love how at all times you can tell where you are in the room relative to Harry Soo lol
Thanks for sharing! You do a great job of showing your subscribers that might be thinking about purchasing this grill. How do they keep the grease and juice out of the fire pot?
Awesome video brother 👊
Hey Justin,
All that is well and good but when is Mrs Baby Back Maniac gunna let you have the large vent hood in your house?
Looking forward to seeing more of the SmokeFire, it really does look like it has searing qualities...and more. Jay
lol. that was funny
Only one thing I saw that I didn't like was the wire rack. I want a thicker cooking grate for more pronounced sear marks. Other than that love that everything cooked evenly everywhere on grill
All the grates for the Spirit gas grill will fit if you want to upgrade.
Looked like a lot of fun
It was fun
Looking forward to hearing all of your thoughts on this! Great looking grill!
Any initial thoughts on choosing between the 36" SmokeFire and the Summit? Primarily for Smoking BBQ but also to cover occasional burgers and steaks.
Awesome Justin, keep it up brother. I'd tend to use just a normal charcoal grill for steak and go low and slow on my offset or kamado or new pellet grill that the wife doesn't know about yet lol.
Ps , tell Harry to be quieter hahaha
Harry’s a ninja!!!
Holy sear batman!!
Decided to wait to get this over the Woodwind 24 wifi! Great video Justin as always!!!
Does it produce flames from side to side? Or just in one section/side of the grill?
Loving the heat and design. Immensely worried about fires in the barrel though.
Anyone else think it's just weird using an outdoor grill inside? I know they have ventilation, but it still looks odd to me.
Lol. I spent a lot of time working in restaurants so I’m used to seeing grills inside. It is cool to see all the industrial hoods they have.
@@BabyBackManiac I couldn't see them, but I sure could here them!
Can't wait to see more reviews from you on this man!!! Got my attention!!!
I gotta have it!!
Did I miss it, is there an easy way to remove pellets from the hopper?
so, were these prototypes....because the last video you did on one it could barely get to 600 and then it stayed in the 400s while you were cooking the steaks..and the flame on the right side...totally uneven temps ...what happened?
That looks so cool. I'm looking forward to your review!
nice, but are you actually going to make another smokefire vs traeger?
Hell yeah!!!!!!! Keep the videos coming!
Goodbye, money! Great video Justin! Thanks for sharing!
lol
Is this heaven?
Are these made in the USA like my other Weber products
I want one so bad!
Thank you for taking the time to show us this new pellet grill from Weber. I see Harry Soo taking over like a boss. Love both of your channels. Keep up the great work!
I saw the vid where Harry was at your house. I would have loved to have been in the company of awesome pitmasters. Keep spreading the BBQ love :)
Curious about the steak flavor compared to lump charcoal. What is your over all impression?
I've been researching the same thing because I like charcoal for my 1/2 chickens and steak. Lumber jack pellets make a charcoal pellet. Wonder how the flavor compares?
Want one so bad thanks Justin. Those steaks look tasty.
Tri-Tip Junkie they were very good
Colder temperature on the right side of the grill at 2:15? Could be useful I suppose for cooking different foods at the same time.
Lot of fire, very interesting for a pellet grill/smoker. That food was right on the money. lol
I need one . Never wanted a pellet grill but it's a weber 🤷♂️
yeah it's looking real good. Seems solid like I'd expect a weber to be, and with their replacement parts supply it'll be no problem to keep in top notch condition.... hopefully for years to come.
It is very much a Weber.
Just preordered the 36" I am excited about it!
Brian Vallotton Congratulations
@@BabyBackManiac Thanks, I am one of your newest fans. I watched all of your videos I could on the subject and decided to go Weber! God bless you my new friend.
What’s the difference with the olive and canola mix?
I'm still amazed they can do a sear like that. I wonder if my local grill store will carry them.
They should be in lowes and I think True Value hardware.
Want to pick your brain. Do you think it is necessary to have a 1/2” firebox vs 1/4”?
What's the burn rate when the grill is cranked up that high?
I forgot what he told me. I think it was 4 pounds an hour but I'm not sure. It's going to vary based on outside temps and how much you keep the lid down.
@@BabyBackManiac That's pretty heavy. I think I'll stick to low and slow when I get mine 😊.
Harry Soo posted in one of his videos that the Weber used ~ 1 pound of pellets an hour at 250 degrees. That sounds more reasonable and economical for me style.
@@MiddletownMike Right. It's a lot less when running at low and slow temps.
What's the ash/grease clean up like?
It's designed to keep most the ash out of the cooker and be easier to clean than most pellet grills.
Dayuuum, im so hungry now !,
How good will this perform in snow/rain? My fear is water gets in and shorts the electrical components.
They made it to stand up to the elements. They did a ton of testing on that front.
Baby Back Maniac , that’s good to know. thank you very much a for the reply and great work
Any idea about rate of pellet consumption when the grill is really ripping like that?
ALL of them LOL :)
Whatever you have will not be enough lol.
Is it rated in pounds per minute?
I asked the same question and I can't remember what he said. I think it was 4-5 per hour or something when at searing temps. Varies by weather and how much you raise the lid. Of course these steaks only takes about 4 minutes per side to cook so that will help alot.
I want one.
I noticed a couple of folks made comments about the flare ups or the whole grill being on fire and yet no reply. Looks like a serious issue. You could easily burn whatever you're grilling if you don’t watch it closely.
Same thing could happen over charcoal. I agree with you, though. Gotta keep an eye on things.
Great looking steaks...and flames way cool.!!!
If you look at the grill when they took the steaks off that's a grease fire 🔥 that's why the reps take the meat off so fast
Cant wait for your full review
Looking at my crystal ball... ...I think there might be one in my future...
Thanks for the great vid.
Looked like Weber has done it again.... thanks for the show-
Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family. God bless.
Love the Harry cameo!
Hi. Are these grill academies something they run regularly?I am from NZ and love your videos and if there was another one early next year I'd consider attending since I'm planning on being in the US in Jan/Feb.
Loved the video. Have thought that one thing I like about a pellet grill is ability to do a pork butt when I have very little time or am feeling a little lazy. Weber may have made one convincing enough for me to give it a go. Really look forward to your review as i know you will give it to us straight.
thanks alot man. I try to be a straight shooter.
Glad I waited on a pellet grill. Weber for the win.
Indoor grilling?
This is Weber's Grill Academy at their headquarters. They have huge overhead hoods (like a restaurant)
What is causing the flare ups? Is it the grease that drops? I wish my pellet grill would do that!
Didn't know what to expect from Weber but come on who is surprised? We expect exceptional! So Justin, which one did they send home with you?
lol. none of them. It was fun to see them though.
@@BabyBackManiac well they should have. About 3 years ago I did purchase a traeger at Costco. Fortunately I was to pick it up the next day, even more fortunate the same day I stopped at an outdoor/ hardware store and found another pellet smoker slightly larger for half the price. My only gripe is that a cavity develops in the hopper. Do you think Weber's pellet could replace or supplement my Summit propane w/rotisserie and sear?
Of course Costco refunded my traeger that I hadn't picked up
paul iozzio I don’t think Weber does that but you could ask. That’s what I love about Costco. It’s a no risk purchase.
@@BabyBackManiac sorry Justin, what I meant was, the new Weber seems capable as a grill maybe more so than a smoker. Do you think that I would have no need for my Summit grill, thanks
What brand of gloves are you using?
You know I’m super jealous...lol. Can’t wait to see your review.
Thanks Adam.
OK, I'm sold, was going to buy a Trager but no longer.
It’s great to have options
Do they have different heat deflectors for when you're smoking? Because again, I'm really worried about those flare ups. It'll straight catch fire with a brisket or butt.
With the temps during smoking there shouldn't be an issue. The flame won't be going out from under the center deflectors.
Kevin Hallin good point, I didn't think of that. But I'm still leery about the grease draining into a pot/pan so close to the burn pot.
I had the same question. It’s designed to channel grease out of the way specifically by not have a heat deflector which tends to collect it. Basically the idea was to make a grill less likely to collect grease in the first place, easier to clean, and better able to handle a fire if it were to happen (keep your property safe and your grill functional).
With all that said, there is room under the grate for a drip/water pan so you could conceivably never have any grease in the bottom of the grill for brisket and pork cooks.
Baby Back Maniac hopefully they'll give you a unit for you to run it through its paces! You'll test it on those kinds of meats and at those temps for sure!
Welp, I guess I said so.
I want one. I will have one.
Did he say there was gonna be a front shelf?
as an add-on
I'm in the market for a new grill/smoker, I'm going to hold out and see how this "game changer" goes on its first few months of the year.
But I'm thinking this will be my next purchase....
Very cool Justin at the end I thought ya'll where cooking in your backyard when I saw all the Webers.😉👍
LOL. I know right. I felt right at home there.
