Hi guys, the pallet table top - I would definitely add some wood straps across the underside of the table. The glue n biscuits alone will not stop it from warping or splitting apart. Glue n screw the straps down in place as well. Keep up the good work... ATB, Steve
Great tip, thanks Steve and Steven! Like you said it is strong one way but less so the other! We need to finalise our design with it but are really happy with how it looks so far 😊👍
Awww man you even have a tool for cutting the biscuits etc! I was so hoping you’d attempt it by hand so I could copy / learn how to do it haha. Yes, watching this is two sittings tonight!
Thank you Jamie - we did this on the countertops but didn’t have enough pretty sides on the table 😂 hopefully it will work but if it doesn’t we will redo it just how you said! 😊👍
Doing good guys. Next time you break a pallet. Try using a peace of 2/2 and prize them up near joints. Nails come strait out without damaging the wood. Peace
Hi Guys, can't wait to get my vario thinking of going to Germany next year to get one, a thought occurred to me when you missed your cut out for the water filler is if you are having a mains hook-up socket fitted ? and where is your electrical distribution board going ? you 2 sound like blue peter presenters ! LOL keep up the great work and you 2 work well together , regards Gary
That sounds like a great plan, they are great vehicles! And we are but we are going for an install under the engine bay for the hookup as we won’t be using it too often and it’ll be nice and clean there! Our batteries and inverters etc. Will be under our passenger seat with a control panel in an overhead cabinet! Haha, glad you think so and glad you are enjoying it! 😊👍
@@MaxSophieinaVan ah that’s what the biscuit cutter was used for, to hold the boards together. Cool thanks ! Building out my 609d for 16 months so far. 🤗💪 bit by bit. Good to see yours coming together.
What is the mileage on the van when you got it and what year is it? I’m on the hunt for a van myself but am not sure what is an acceptable mileage 🤔. Keep up the good work, the van is looking great 👍
hellllo, any cracks in the wood use a paste made of gorilla glue and sawdust smushed in and it wont come apart - it'll also disappear under a stain coat etc 😊. this will work for the nail holes in your pallet strips too. if you're are using pallets in the future you can take the wood off with nails attached, snip them and tap them through with a hammer so the nail head pokes out and can be levered out with either a hammer or a pair of carpenters pliers. will result in holes that aren't blown out. link to a cheap and effective set of cutters for nails: www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B008PQAP8S/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_fabc_ff.WFbQTPYFK5?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
That’s really useful, thanks Jon! We’ll give that a go with our nail holes in the table! We are hoping we never have to do it again but if we do we’ll remember that! 😂👍
I had posted on a van life Facebook group and someone ripped me apart telling me pallets are full of deadly chemicals 😂 luckily we know someone who makes pallets so got a nice new clean one hahah 👌😊
brilliant work guys
Thank you so much! 😊👍

@@MaxSophieinaVan reckon this is a good tip 😎👍✅
Power tools tastic, great fun on the woodworking I bet. Can never have too many sash clamps.. Good work, great video
Most of them are borrowed but they make the job so much easier and fun! Thank you so much 😊👍
Very impressive good bit of work ! Great vlog again cheers
Thanks Kevin, glad you enjoyed it! 😊👍
Great job again both lovely tops 😏👍👏
Thank you Gavin! 😊👍
Looking fabulous guys 👍 such a neat job on everything....👌
Thank you so much! 😊👍
Great video can’t wait to see how everything else plans out
Thank you! Neither can we... we keep going with our fingers crossed 😂
Awesome job, can’t wait for the next episode
Thank you Tony! More exciting things to come 😊👌
Well done guys keep pushing forward. Looking great. 👍
Thank you so much, we will! 😊
There’s always something to do with biscuits in your videos. I really appreciate this 😂😂😂😂🤦🏼♂️
Hahaha to be truthful we can’t get through an hours work on the van without at least one biscuit 😂 even more so now it’s so cold and dark 😊👍
It’s definitely going to plan! Good steady progress and some funky design idea is going to make this build awesome 👏 😎👍✅
Thank you Andrew! Sophie is full of funky design ideas so I’m sure you’ll be pleased we what we end up with! 😂👍
@@MaxSophieinaVan Max dude!! It’s you guys that have to be happy😂 ....I’m enjoying the ride and can’t wait to see how the build goes 😎👍✅
We we are so happy with it too, so everyone’s happy! 😊 we can’t wait to get it done and start exploring the world! 👍👌
Loved this guys! much inspiration for the counter top! yeah some pallets are easy to take apart others are a pain!
Thank you! And Max is definitely too impatient for it 😂 it’s worth all of the hard work breaking them apart in the end! 😊👍
Awww man you even have a tool for cutting the biscuits etc! I was so hoping you’d attempt it by hand so I could copy / learn how to do it haha. Yes, watching this is two sittings tonight!
Haha, my dad is a saviour and has many many tools we are borrowing 😂 savouring this video then 😂👍
What i think? You should round the corners of your new countertop, sharp corners or edges will hurt you one day.
That’s a great tip, we might steal that idea! 😊👌
Hey guys u doing a awesome job on ur van ! I’m a fan already ! Very precise and good planed . Big hello from cuxhaven cheers Ollie
Thank you so much Ollie! Hello to Cuxhaven! Hopefully we will be able to visit when we are traveling 😊
Also, seeing as you asked, love the counter tops. I’d personally do a clear Matt varnish if it were mine but it’s not so stick with your plans :)
Thank you, we are so so happy with them! 😍 and Sophie has plenty of creative design-y ideas for the counters, you’ll have to wait and see! 👍
When gluing boards on edge together put clamps on top and underneath that will help with bow
Great tip, thank you! 😊👍
Also need to make sure grain is up and then down on adjacent boards, helps prevent the overall top from curling in future
Thank you Jamie - we did this on the countertops but didn’t have enough pretty sides on the table 😂 hopefully it will work but if it doesn’t we will redo it just how you said! 😊👍
Loving the tops guys I've never had one of those biscuits though LOL
Thank you, and you must, they get us through the hardest of days! 😊
You guys buy a new Makita every week! But hey, those are the best tools and will last for decades.
Haha we wish they were all ours! Most are borrowed off of Max’s dad! We think they are great! 😊

@maxandsophieinavan What material did you use for your worktop? 🤔 looks good.
Hi there! We’ve used reclaimed scaffold boards - so they were all bashed up but cheap!

Bit by bit is the only way to do it! It’s overwhelming otherwise! Good luck with your conversion x
@@MaxSophieinaVan thanks you too. Going to build shower next, following your design.

Keep up the good work, the van is looking great 👍
Hi Sally, ours is a 2006 model and has 95,000(ish) miles on it! The Vario is pretty solid and should be good for a million miles! Thank you so much 😊👍
@@MaxSophieinaVan thanks guys. That is a really good mileage. I feel like finding a Vario panel van without 250k+ mileage is like finding a unicorn 🦄
It really is! I’d probably stick to a Vario under about 400k just so you have plenty of mileage to travel with! 😊👍

Is that going to be good safe when they done
Fantastic job guys well done our 1st van build video goes up this Friday at 9am ruclips.net/user/charlieandmeourcampingvlog stay safe
So......hang on..............learning curve..........is it not wise to just use any old pallet for table tops?
