Which these 3 methods would you say are the straightest and most accurate as I’m looking to joint several edge to edge 8 FOOT LONG pieces of 1x6 boards together to make thin sliding hanging closet doors using a router
Was looking at a Kreg Straight Edge Guide similar to that Swanson you got or simply clamping an 8ft Empire Level, as well but after seeing that 100in Swanson one you got I’m considering this option as I like how thin and easier to clamp it is aside from a long level is $$

Matt, I’m a 70 year old intermediate carpenter. I recently started building the patio coolers you see on RUclips. I built my first one as a gift for my daughter, then orders came in. I charged $300. For the first one, now they say my prices are too low. I made about $100.00 per cooler. Now I charge $350.00 and I built two more. Your advice was encouraging and I was amazed that they would pay that. I use premium cedar that only Home Depot has. It’s up to $15.00 per board. They want more projects. That’s to you, I’ve the courage to move on. Thanks and God bless.

I laughed so hard every time you said: "BREAK DOWN." You need to be on TV. Not only do you provide knowledge in a clear and easily understandable way, but you're also extremely entertaining. That's hard to do. Most RUclipsrs struggle with doing just one of those things well. You excel at both.

About the Kregg, you have to have a straight edge to start with. I never have that. However the Swanson you can cut at any angle you want. You know how OSB gets that ragged edge. AND the Swanson gets that plate right down on the workpiece so you don't have it lifted loosing cut depth. Thanks so much for helping me make a decision!

Excellent tip. I am a beginner level weekend woodworker and I did not know about the swanson straight edge.
I wanna add that if, for any reason, you made a slanted cut, use a drywall T-Square to make sure you have a straight line drawn perpendicular (90 deg) to a factory edge and use a straight edge to make a cleaning cut to get the slanted cut out.

Another tip is to measure the distance from the blade to the edge of your saw and cut a piece of plywood that width. When you need to make a cut you place the cut piece of plywood next to your pencil marks. You then put your straight edge next to the plywood and tighten your straight edge down. No measuring needed after making the plywood spacer/jig. Make sure and mark it as " Jig Do not Throw Away".

i got a kreg jig, money well spent since i don't own a table saw yet. I would say that those screws at the top do get loose. There are channels on the bottom of the jig that don't get used as tracks. I drilled a couple of holes through my saw's floor plate into the voids in the jig and used some nuts and bolts near the top and bottom (once i had my zero establish) and now it doesn't move at all. it also wont interfere with the kreg cross cut jig either. Note that i used an old circular saw and dedicated it to having the kreg jig permanently attached (well worth it to not have to set it up everytime i want to use it).

The Kreg thing is a bit expensive here in Brazil, it's as expensive as my circular saw... But I really think it's worth it. I don't have it yet, but it's definitely on my wishlist. 😊

I didnt read all the comments so its possible someone else mentioned or does this. I did a test cut with my saw from both sides of the saw against a straight edge then measured what that offset was and using a sharpie, put those two measurements on top of the blade guard so it is right there and I just add that offset (depending on which side of the saw I am cutting from) to the measurement of what I am cutting off and it comes out perfect. I like the idea of using a cut off piece of wood but that can get easily lost (or mistaken for usable scrap wood, lol) in my small shop

I appreciate your suggestions, honest opinions and thorough demonstration. I'm a novice diy'er (is that redundant). I have an I-beam straight edge. I tried the Kreg cross cut guide. But I could not get my Milwaukee M18 Fuel 6-1/2" circular saw to sit straight and clamp securely on it, and had to return. Mine, even the red arrow was crooked, maybe I got a bad one, but it did not look like it would work.
Question. On the Swanson 10' straight edge, I read reviews that it bows in the middle. It seems if the screws are tight enough, it looks secure. What is your opinion regarding bowing in the middle? Was looking into the Swanson. Thank you!

Are you thinking about moving to the next level with more traditional joinery. I only ask because if have wanted to and have started at the very basic, truth be told so far not doing so good but I will not give up...

Just great...I'm new to wood working (I'm an old fart), my brother-in-law (who is an expert wood worker) is trying to get me involved. He bought me a Kreg 720 pocket hole. I really like your video...I think I could do what you demonstrated and my brother-in-law is trying to get me to buy a Makita plunge saw with guide (for $400+) but $ 40 -$70 sounds better until I figure out just how crazy I wanna get with wood working...Thanks.
