After well over a hundred hours, Shin Megami Tensei V: Vengeance's gameplay never dulls. Aside from a few minor grievances, its continuous demon acquisition, sublime sense of adventure, ceaselessly earned reward, and endless avenues of replayability via the two story routes and new game plus options are unrivaled.
However, its new narrative falls short, feeling rushed and poorly paced the further you progress despite its innately captivating premise. So, if you're just in this for the plot, Vengeance may not be for you, especially if you were seeking a more fulfilling tale after experiencing the Canon of Creation. Still, Atlus hit a home run here with combat and exploration, and I see myself sticking around to see all this entry has to offer, regardless of the shortcomings.

I love that u can save anywhere because not all of us can play for hours on end.
Stuff happens when u need to suddenly stop playing to come back later.
So i love that addition.
Others can just ignore it and only save when they get to a savepoint....
So basically what this reviewers is reinforcing, to me anyway, is that gameplay was solid af. Which I always said was smt V biggest strength.
Its interesting you say you feel the story is rushed. That the exact opposite from what other reviewers are saying. Only 1 way to find out.
Did you dive iN? What is your impressions if so?
You know, SMT V's vanilla story ambiguities actually sat well with me, up to a point. While it's true that the story comes of in a rather disjointed manner, infodumps (which are arguably still there) would not have made it much better. It won't be too much of a surprise if they've followed the same template for the Canon of Vengeance and went with sparse story exposition, with the larger parts of it left to one's imagination. Granted, the fact that Yuzuru and Dazai are playable this time around hints that we'll know what they were doing (or were up to) when they were off-screen in SMT V, though I don't see how the addition of the new cast will resolve some of the more questionable plot points in the original release (like, why would Lucifer even care what "reason" you go for at the end, something that got repeated in Nocturne as well, or why did so many of the gods that vie for the Empyrean throne can only go so far as too speculate whether Nahobino's knowledge will be a suitable for them as their lost Knowledge).
All this is to say that, while an SMT game can have a decent story (Strange Jorney, SMT, DDS) you won't usually play it exclusively for the narrative. It's the addictive nature of the gameplay that gives it the distinctive edge on the jRPG market.
Hearing that the new narrative is rushed and poorly paced is so upsetting because that was the biggest issue of the original too, so you'd think that issue would've been addressed 😢
Other reviews disagree so don't just take this one as absolute
Other reviews says it’s better so just have to play it with yourself to know if it’s better or worst
What did u expect
@MsSasi would wait until its released then watch a stream. But i wouldn't trust other reviewers just because they're saying otherwise because these are early access reviews; positive reviews are kinda compromised from the jump. Worst case, wait for a sale.
@@laststep56 I think their point is mostly: Don't take what a single person said as the absolute. Reviews are not objective, they are subjective and what a person might feel as rushed, another would think its fine. Also, this is also an early access review, so your second point goes out the window.
I, for one, love the ability to save anywhere. Having limited Save Points in an JRPG doesn't make sense.
It does in SMT, though. Because the gameplay is actually good/engaging enough to warrant save points.
For SMT is better because it makes the game harder and you have to be more cautious with the battles you choose to fight.
That doesn’t make the game harder, it makes it more tedious.
@@renren47618not really when you can literally just teleport back to a leyline fount and save anytime you'd want to
Same because not all of us can play for hours on end.
Stuff happens when u need to suddenly stop playing to come back later.

Others can just ignore it and only save when they get to a savepoint....
DDS 1&2 need a remaster, that was peak Atlus storytelling.
Along with Strange Journey
He makes it sound like a 6 then gives an 8.5.
He usually raves about games during a review and gives them 7.5. 😂
Probably gave it a 8.5 for fighting giant green penis 🙄
He spoke very highly of the game for majority of the review lol
Thats usually me reviewing a film, my friends get so confused 😅😅
I've seen A LOT of reviews say the new story mode is better.
SMT is my favorite JRPG franchise so i'll probably enjoy it. Especially since i didn't play the original.
Better =/= good, or that good like in SMT IV or Strange Journey.
@@nr2676 You know what ? I don't even care. Story was never SMT's strong suit imo. Strange Journey is the only one with a memorable narrative anyways.
The press turn system, the demon recruitement/fusion, the dark atmosphere, the demonology are why i love mainline SMT.
@@yagami999913 Did you only played Nocturne and Strange Journey like from famous meme ? SMT 1, SMT 2, and SMT 4 also had great stories, but had pacing problems. Seems Vengeance will be like those 3 games.
@@nr2676 I'm 35. I played Nocturne during the PS2 days. Memes weren't even a thing back then. Strange Journey i played the original NDS version. I played SMT4 a lot but the story never felt like something to write home about, on top of being very predictable. SMT4A is just SMT4 with polished gameplay but weak Persona wanna-be story. SMT1 and 2 i never had access to until recently (grabbed the translated versions of the PS1 and SNES versions and put them on my retro handled).
Doesn't stop me from loving the hell out of every single mainline SMT game, Strange Journey and even Apocalypse.
And if SMT5's story is anything near SMT4's level, then i'm gold.
@nr2676 I wouldnt agree with that. The narrative has always been the weakest part of mainline SMT.
SMT1: Decent
SMT2: Cool moments but most of the plot is meandering and macguffin hunting
SMT3: Story is none existant
SMT4: Really good plot overall
SMT4A: Awful plot overall.
2 more days baby
" if you are looking for persona narrative based highschool social sim visual novel, smt is never going to be persona" They tried to add a little more to the characters to cater to persona only fans but it still isn't going to be that narrative driven. Everything else makes it a top tiered rpg. I"m really against the DRM required to play it on PC, not being able to play it offline, and haveing to agree to lose all rights to ownership of the game to sega in order to purchase and play the game. Not big on paying 60 dollars to not own what I pay for.
Yeah, sadly that’s how it is these days. I’m so torn because I’d love to play this on my Steam Deck OLED but I usually try to wait for Steam sales. Probably can get it for half price in 6 months or such. I own the original physically for Switch, and I generally don’t feel good about paying $60 for a digital copy of a game where you basically don’t own anything.
4:00 That's definitely a new arrangement of the normal battle theme. Sounds fantastic tbh!
Seeing it get deck verified so early before release made me so excited. Seems like the perfect game & genre to tackle on the Deck! Especially as the handheld switch performance left a lot to be desired.
2:50 I LOVE Noisy Pixel bro. You guys are so honest it rules. Even when you're wrong, which you aren't here, I can still respect you. That's nuts. Keep up the good work boys
I’ve been watching all the new reviews and you’re the only person who hasn’t called the new story at least a marginal improvement
This is the only review I have seen so far about Vengeance that cons the story. So I am a bit 🤨
We’re definitely one of the few media who actually beat this game before review so 🫡
@@NoisyPixelNewsDon't get it twisted good sir. I am not dunking your review. I was just surprised you talked negatively about the story is all because beforehand I was looking at other reviews and they were praising the story and characters being better than OG V. I definitely like your reviews though :)
Sadly, even before watching this review, I didn’t see much of the story in other videos, always the same 4 or 5 scenes, so I already had the impression there wasn’t much to it … And this review confirmed it.
@@TheMinchio They were probably showing the same few scenes to avoid spoilers...
I have a question. Lets say you never played through the original do you recommend going through that first or is it ok to start with the vengeance route.
Different stories, you can choose any you like.
The director of the game recommends starting with the new route. I would do that if I were you as it's supposed to be the richer story of the two.
Supposed to at least.
This
IMO Only play Canon of Creation first if you want to experience the original aswell as the enhanced Vengeance route otherwise just dive straight into Vengeance
I personally wouldn't go back to the Vengeance Route if it's a downgrade and I do think going through Canon of Creation (in full) will enhance my experience going through Vengeance
I think that nobody has enough info to know whether it is better to choose the CoV first, at least not yet. Considering who instigated the whole reason for the plot in the original game, we don't even know how they will play into the new story. That said, the director of the game states that it doesn't matter which route you take.
Were the skill animations turned off for the footages you used in this review? Thanks for the detailed review!
I think so
They were. SMT5 has by far the most detailed and luscious combat animations in the series, don't worry.
@@ThrillingDuck That's comforting to know. I was worried for a bit. Thanks!
So very disappointing to hear that they didn't address the narrative issues from the original release.
They did though. Don't base everything of 1 reviewer especially when almost all others are saying it's good lmao
@@geisterwolf397 Tbf this was the first review I checked out. I was disappointed to hear the thing I most wanted implemented wasn't. I generally like reviews from this channel.
Enjoy yourself
I really don't understand why they went the route they did with this rerelease. The biggest criticism of the vanilla version has always been its super rushed story, so why wouldn't they work to flesh that out instead of offering people an alternate, equally as rushed story? Modern ATLUS is baffling to me.
Because SMT fans always bitch about re-releases "changing the story", even when those changes are objective improvements, so this time Atlus essentially went, "fine, you can still play the original story in this version!"
@@ltb1345 welp, sounds like you've had some bad experiences with SMT fans.
Personally I thought the issue with what they did with Strange Journey was that the additions were overall pretty badly implemented, that they were stylistically incoherent and that they muddled the pacing and themes, while the additions to Nocturne, or the Devil Survivor games were pretty much out-and-out improvements. Mixed bag, is what I'm saying.
In any case, I'm definitley not a fan of this new approach - at least not when it comes in the form of an asinine rerelease, as opposed to DLC. It's almost entirely slapped on, there's absolutely no need for a full rerelease like this. Aside from the fact that it means owners of the old version would have to pay full price again, of course.
Did they manage to make two versions of the same game with the same exact problems in story telling? I'll see for myself but i was so frustrated with how the first game dropped the story for like 75% of the game in favour of exploration. It sounds from your review they did the exact same mistake again. That would be wild honestly.
Nocturne is probably the only SMT (and I mean actual SMT) game that has a decent story.
@@HappyZavulon what about IV Apocalypse??
@@HappyZavulon What? IV is known as the story game. Nocturne has a basic story
@@HappyZavulon Do you consider non Mainline SMT aswell?
I mean Strange Journey (non redux) had a fantastic story and the same can be said for Digital Devil Saga 1 and 2
@@HappyZavulonIV has the best story very easily
So if I loved the original SMT V, I’ll probably love this too?
yes
i hope at least they provide a new final dungeon/final boss/ending and doesn't just merge back with the original at the very end
Day one !!! I was mad it was only on switch (good for them actually) and now let’s play it on my PS5 ! Thanks Atlus !!!
I'm still so excited to play this again
That's a lot of caveats to start with, at least there is the old route to fall back on.
The developers need to go back to the roots. Megami Tensei, ...if, and SMT's original stories did so much with so little. It might also be an opportunity to release them in the west GDI.
Or Devil Summoner. Hell even Majin Tensei 2 had good story.
Sounds like a good choice to skip the Switch version and instead get this new superior version. It may not be Persona but still looks interesting. Saving anywhere is a godsend when you are a husband and parent and may need to stop playing at a seconds notice.
So they did the opposite of age of creation where the second half is interesting but for age of vengeance only the first half of interesting? Man...
Will we ever get SMT stories as great as IV or strange journey again
If Yamai (director of Atlus) returns to Team Maniax as a writer, and team up with Eiji Ishida again, then maybe. If not, i doubt it Tokyo Mirrage Sessions, SMT IV Apocalypse and Persona 5 writers write good scenario for Atlus game in near future. All the best writers gone from Atlus after 2014 (fusion with Sega).
No cause all the ogs have long since left Atlus its just a bunch of new cats that don’t know what there doing
Hearing that the narrative still sucks and is still rushed and incomplete makes me think that the previous hollow husk that we got was no mere fluke of poor development. It is instead just pointing more and more to the fact that the current SMT team at Atlus just isn't up to the task of handling the series.
Makes me miss Kaneko and his team even more.
The writers are bad now
It could also be this reviewers subjective opinion, but apparently that's a crazy idea for people in this comment section.
@@jonathangoodwin5609 Every review that's not a glorified Wikipedia article is inherently subjective. And if you're not willing to ponder on any negative critique of a game that you haven't played yet, no matter how well presented said critique is, then you might as well ignore all praise as well, if you want to be fair about it. That, after all, is also completely subjective.
@bucket9486 you're missing my point. My point is that people are acting as if this one reviewer is objectively correct and getting whiny about the story and that's stupid.
Wrong.
As someone who never played vanilla SMT 5, should I start with the old story (creation) or should I go with the new content (vengance)?
usually game like this recommend you to play the old ones to understand the story and character before jumping into vengeance, so you wont get confuse on bunch of context happen in the first
You can jump into the new content or old, it doesn’t matter. They’re not connected
@@danielpeter9308The story is different in Vengeance and the characters weren’t really done well in the original so you won’t gain anything playing old first
@@TreyChannel yep..just play a little. I just passed the part where we met yuzuru 1st time at wasteland, just had a battle with yuzuru and the new lady.. definitely worth to replay creation
I was advised to play Canon of Creation first. There are elements of the original that are alluded to in Canon of Vengeance but aren't fleshed out there. Also apparently there is certain content that you can only get with the true neutral ending in CoC
Never got to play SMT5 on switch, but did emulate it on PC and it was fun to play. So I'll definitely be buying a copy on Steam! Been waiting months for a mainline SMT game that isnt handheld exclusive!
The added story is definitely a huge addition to that fluster cluck of a story, the vanilla version “told”. But it still has issues.
Missing context can be jarring, Dazai’s character progression is still smelly ass, and if you played vanilla you see how he gets his new form coming from a mile away. The new areas are just as frustrating to traverse and a chore to get through, as the areas they replace. And the alternate timeline parts are so weird. Certain developments only really make sense with the context of the original story, but the new stuff is mostly told as its own thing. It’s so odd.
Negative stuff aside, SMTV was a GOAT JRPG because of the gameplay alone. This version adds even more in that regard. A definite improvement overall, but they still struggled with the story.
As someone who has never played V in any capacity, do you guys think I should play canon of creation first in order to appreciate the new story route more?
Btw I highly suspect this review grossly exaggerates the narrative issues of the game, they're probably just upset it isn't written or structured like a Persona game
Just play the new route, canon of creation is really weak and rushed
@@AzelasFromHyrule gotcha
creation to me is just not worth story wise imo, just try the vengeance route
Btw you seem to be very critical of II's narrative which is praised hell and back almost as much as IV(which I have issues with IV's plot) So I'm curious what are the mainline game or other megaten game you think delivered on its narrative
@@Andy-sj4ip For me the Digital Devil Saga duology is the absolute gold standard of the Megaten series, followed by Strange Journey, while I do think there are no truly bad Megaten games, I think DDS did the best job in creating a perfect combination and synthesis of aesthetics, narrative and gameplay, many other Megaten games feel disconnected slightly from its core systems because one of those concepts always tend to overshadow the other, for example with Raidou Kuzunoha having a pretty good story and universe but having lackluster gameplay or the OG SMTV having great gameplay but mediocre writing, I think DDS is the closest they've come to delivering on all fronts and synthesizing all of the games' concepts and mechanics to perfection
Keep in mind that I don't think SMT 2 has a bad story, it's just poorly paced
I also think Devil Survivor did a competent job in terms of good writing but the fact that it felt too Persona-ish in some aspects kinda prevents me from giving it a higher rating since I don't think the Megaten spinoffs should aspire to become Persona, which was the main reason why Soul Hackers 2 didn't work
@@niclasneziru1854 I agree there are no outright bad or horrible megaten and DDS is fantastic. Hope Vengeance is a good time.
I loved V, and I can’t wait to revisit it again!!
Though obviously, I'd prefer the game to have a good story, man, people really forget how mid most mainline SMT games are story-wise. The story and characters are rarely good, mainline SMT is about atmosphere and gameplay.
Yeah, Shin Megami Tensei II is one of the most praised games in the series and that game's narrative is all over the place, it's uneven, the plot goes incredibly slow then incredibly fast and before you know it you're reaching the story's climax despite you just got out of a very slow and uneventful story arc and characters don't have that much development (besides Zayin I guess) yet people still manage to find great worth and praise in the game, looks like people just wanna hate on SMTV for the hell of it
Ya I think it just depends on personal tast. Some people really need a good story to enjoy a game. For me exploration and atmosphere are what pull me in and SMTV hits all those areas perfectly. Plus the music is god tier.
@@niclasneziru1854 half of 2s story is legit a macguffin hunt lmao
@@billyboleson2830 Yeah it's basically: slow ass introduction you're a gladiator do gladiator shit, hunt this mcguffin, erhm kill these two demons ravaging the city, boring stuff, aw shit time for revolution, go back to item hunting, wait why are we killing god? wow this guy is actually satan?
Talking about II kinda makes me hope they do a remake with a better execution since the plot had so much potential but it just kinda fell flat
@@niclasneziru1854 It's the "new thing bad, old thing good" mentality
Demon city Shinjuku. Love that reference
At this point I’m convinced the that Strange Journeys story was a fluke. Both 4 and VV seem to have the same issue of having a good opening and then falling off a cliff
Really? I found 4’s neutral ending to be a force of a narrative
4 falls off a cliff? That game starts strong, and then has one of the greatest climax of any game, period. The chunk after Yamato and forced secondary quests are not on par with the rest of the game? Sure. But it just goes down to a 9 up from a consistant 10, and back to a 10 for the finale
@@frustis I didn’t care for most of the game and especially past the alignment lock. Blasted Tokyo is phenomenal tho and a definite highlight past the opening
@@billyboleson28304’s narrative has a lot more quality than smtv’s
So if I haven't yet been fully sold on the series and also have the original release, I shouldn't bother? That's what it sounds like. Perhaps more importantly, is the giant, green c*** monster in the original release? lmao!
Yes 🥒
@@danield.6452 noice.
This sounds crazy to me. Regardless of what people feel about the new narrative route (nobody should be basing their opinion off of reviews), this version of the game adds such an insane amount of content and gameplay changes that you will literally play an inferior version lol
It doesn't make sense that the original route is available at all if it is considered rushed even by the devs.
I've not seen the devs refer to it as "rushed", more like "not realized in totality". That is to say, they had other ideas - most likely the Vengeance route - but they couldn't cram them in time for the release date, which was already being pushed farther and farther by the time the game came out. Other than that, take the whole "the plot is bad" with a grain of salt, since this is a bit subjective. Add to that the DLCs, which expounded the main plot in several directions (i. e. Mephisto's role in the story as well as the parallel dimensionality mentioned by the 4 horsemen in the 9 Fiends DLC).
It doesn't make sense to take away the creation route. That was literally the original game. You can't just act like it doesn't exist.
you can just play the vengeance story all you want, CoC is just there for the option + other exclusive demons
I really want a modern SMT with the setting style of strange journey. A super bleak crazy world. loved SMT 3 but I need a post apocalyptic future setting. The world on the brink prior to the fall, and seeing soldiers and an adult Protagonist trying to carve out his own path. No friendship is magic, not school setting. Seeing what horrific state the world takes when demons take form. Seeing the human soldiers taking the side of the angels while demons take in all the worst of humanity to bolster their ranks. That rant aside I will def pick up SMT V
I don't happen again, under Sega boat. Strange Journey is worst selling mainline game in series (after Nocturne era), because JRPG players still prefers rainbows, teens saving world and power of friendship. Even western horror games like Silent Hill still selling much worse than more straightforward Resident Evil. Horror games will be always a niche.
I really doubt It, actually i wish we had a more SMT 2 approach being a post apocalyptic Cyberpunk with occultic, transhumanism and NWO themes, but this will never happen nowadays, so just a Smt game more focused on the occultic roots of the franchise would please me....
I doubt that because SJ flopped and nowadays the tendency is for them to get SMT as close to Persona as possible and be more acessible to the general public so they can sell more, SMT V did very well and Vengeance will probably too.
I don't have much issues with V's setting, a long the plot had more focus on the characters philosophy and shaping an "ideal world" based on ideologies related to each alligment that were more than just "God makes 1984", "Chaos evil power Fantasy" and "Neutral good/Neutral Power of Friendship"
This game according to some reviewers will lean towards two new ending who are essentially like Apocalypse
Edgy Chaos and Power of Friendship neutral.
I think the ideal balance is Devil Survivor, in fact, the best non Persona storyline in the whole Megaten series for me is Devil Survivor, DeSu has a plot that involves directly demons and God as active agents on the story, the myths being relevant to the overall plotline, an interesting cast of human character with a more animey feel and more "cute" visual, nuanced alligments and goverment conspiracy stuff, the Lockdown scenario of DeSu was also amazing and more interesting than anything SMT ever did afther the two first games scenario wise, maybe just IV's Blasted/Infernal Tokyo Twist comes close.
I really wish that Smt took inspiration from DeSu instead of trying to become a Persona with more fantasy and less social setting(in fact i even think that SMT should use more of this social setting but in more chaotic and dystopic scenarios like the one i gave an example before, of course, without the whole visual novel stuff of Persona.)
@@nr2676Unfortunately, that's true, if they want SMT to sell as good as Persona while keeping to be an already niched series in a niche genre (JRPG) they have to appeal as much as possible to the average JRPG and mainstream audience as possible and that means that SMT has to tone down its darker themes and give more common JRPG characterization to its characters in order to achieve that.
As i've mentioned before, i really wish they took more from Devil Survivor for the mainline series, that game had the perfect balance between both sides of the Megaten series.
I plan to play both storylines, but if I haven’t played the original do you recommend starting with canon of creation or vengeance
You can start with Creation, but be aware story in this version is really bad/mediocre.
I literally bought a switch for this game, and played it for less than 2 hours. I regret getting a switch, I have no attachment to Nintendo IP's and the third party stuff was okay at best. I'll definitely be getting this to see if the changes are enough and of course the mods.
Highly recommend playing through the Xenoblade series if you need some great JRPGs to play on Switch
Okay but who asked?
😂😂😂😂😂😂
Oh my God i would be pissed as hell.
You....played 2 hours? Man Vengeance is a whole different beast regardless of the story changes. Just gameplay in general is even better

The writer of this review is a clown.
I was expecting more from the narrative this time 🤷🏻♂️
Don't listen to what just one reviewer said, especially when almost all others say the complete opposite
I will not see this video, buuut I will say This game is amazing, I be playing megami tensei for years so I know how work this universe. VENGANZA reach the perfection of what SMT5 want to tell us since the beginning
Yup, sounds like Shin Megami Tensei V. Gameplay was never the issue for me, but it feels like at some point they forget they were supposed to tell a compelling story. The open-zone structure also hurt pacing really bad unless you went from point A to B any given moment. Seems like they also drop the ball on this new path, as well. A shame, really. Still worth playing for the combat. I might get it when it's a bit cheaper to try the second path.
I love ya NP, but this review gave me whiplash. "It's bad, it's great, it's bad, it's a great." I'm left sore, naked, and confused. 🥴 Just the way I like it🤠

I am very glad i canceled my preorder. I would have been enraged if i went through the game and the garbage storytelling was just like base 5. The director on this series needs to step down and they need to bring back kazayuki yamai and whoever the actual writer was. Him being stuck as a producer is the wrong choice, this guy we have now has no idea how to tell a story in this series. Go play the 4 duology if any of you disbelieve me.

@@taigaaisaka6305 i’m glad you can recall past conversations miss anime profile pic. and yea this is me now bringing up it’s not about the story it’s about gameplay, and for me that’s enough. if you are so dense you are choosing to not understand what i am saying that’s on you. and a video game is inherently about gameplay, bc ya know, it’s a game lol.

Does the Vengeance Story have multiple Endings?
2 New Endings + maybe 1 hidden behind New Game +
@@nr2676 Thank you.
At some point, people will have to put their big boy pants on and admit the new SMT team isn’t good enough.
Peopel have been saying that for every game that’s not smt1-3 😂
People have been saying this since Kazuma Kaneko stopped taking an active role in development. So pretty much every MegaTen game after Strange Journey
@@sorawild33 Which is pretty much the exact moment of the decline. Though I think 4 was still kinda decent.
@@sorawild33The only mainline games with a good story are IV and Strange Journey, 1,2 and 3 are more what happens being cool than the story itself, but even if 1-2-3 stories were weak they weren't anything as bad as Apocalypse and V
Apocalypse had a terrible cast, story and lost the Smt feel that IV still had
V didn't had much to it
Vengeance seems to have a story that IS way better than V but still kinda average and apparently they fell into the "Power of Friendship true neutral ending" again which i hate.
I think that i wouldn't care as much if Vengeance wasn't a re-launch of V, but considering the fact that they had so much feedback and opportunity to do something great this time they still hit something average apparently and even worse, it's a full price new version of a game i already bought in 2021.
I really wish that this game surprises me and it actually shows to have a cool story, but I'm getting very pessimistic now.
@@renren47618 Should state, Noisy Pixel is quite literally the only game site that had anything really negative to say about the new plot. RPGSite which also only reviews games they complete gave the new plot a pretty glowing review with the only negative being that the new girl Yoko doesnt get as much time to shine as Tao.
Can't wait for this game !!!!
I’d like to make a party of the frost demons 😅
I’m new to SMT, I played only persona but it looks pretty interesting. I’ve got only one question , Is it only lazy switch port with unlocked fps and higher resolution ? Do we get any better shadows, lights etc ? Also what edition do u suggest to get ?
We do get better shadows and lighting, and you should get the standard edition because you know, atlus...
@@kira516 I purchased the game for 34 pounds on a website ;) and I bought all dlc via steam for 12 I think so deluxe cheaper than standard on steam :) The game awesome , I didn't expect that good experience :)
I would suggest you try SMT 3 nocturne one day.
@@hitomikagewaki31 I will try one day but I heard Its much more difficult and I'm not too good in that kind of games. I enjoy it a lot but I'm noob tbh :)
@@Kriss_Hunter I think both games have a casual or safety difficulty, I suppose you could lvl farm as well. Hopefully persona 3 episode aigis is a lot easier than the ps2 og when it drops Sept 10th.
Imma wait for smt 6, pass on this one
Ironically, whether SMT 6 exists will rest heavily on the way Vengeance performs financially.
Good luck waiting for 10+ years
I'll say out right: Who the hell cares about the writing in SMT games (just the main games)? I didn't play IV, but Nocturne was a joke in that regard. The characters were impossible to believe (they were just a-ok with the apocalypse, like, what?) and the narrative was scarce to say the least. So, as long as it is fun to play, I don't care about the story; that's why the Persona series exists.
I was wondering the same thing quite recently, after picking up Nocturne again. Nocturne doesn't even take its own story very seriously, and much of its goofiness appeared later in Digital Devil Saga. The characters are thin to put it mildly, the plot is all over the place, and it proved yet again that you're better off playing those games for the gameplay and its flexibility rather than the barely existing plots. Could it be that Persona really spoiled people into thinking that the great gameplay system should also come packaged in with a great plot (like P4/P5's) instead of drawing a line in the sand and just leaving it at that?
Nocturne did have a story. SMT 2’s story was good. 4 was decent and Strange Journey has possibly the best narrative in all of SMT. Counting soin offs there is also DDS
The stories of SMT are actually alright and existant, especially later on with the IV duology and SJ. Nocturne and V which tries to imitate Nocturne are exceptions where basically nothing happens between the start and end
In my case, i just wish SMT was more ambitious with its story, got the alligments right and especially in V's case that they made something great since the original sucked, i def expected at very least something that would stand out in the series like IV afther the criticism of V, and they still managed to deliver an average story (still better than V, but average)
SMT should just follow the example of Devil Survivor in terms of characters, plot and etc. instead imo
Of course, maybe with my expectations lower now, Vengeance will surprise me but i feel way more reluctant to pay full price in a game i already played in 2021 for a second time now.
@@renren47618 Devil Survivor was so good and it's easily the most universally praised Megaten games. There's no reason SMT should = 'no narrative', just because ONE game (Nocturne) did it. Expanding on how society adapts and reacts to dire circumstances, and having fleshed out alignments that make sense is always a plus.
Kinda dumb we don’t have other outfits
If I never played the OG one will I enjoy this?
theres no reason to ever play the OG
Maybe a dumb question but does Denuvo have an impact of the game on PC?
*switches console location to New Zealand*
RUclips quality doesn"t atleast
😭
Wait this game is turn based?
No, it’s a souls-like.
Why is that a surprise? Almost every since SMT game is.
@@XenobiaExe was unfamiliar with the series and the trailer I saw looked real time action.
So just like Persona 5 Royal the plot is great in the beginning but falls off. If it’s easier then I hope godborn will bring a greater challenge
No, not just like persona 5 royal, you oaf.
P5's only low point is Okumura's arc but Sae, Shido, Yadabaoth and especially Maruki are great.
SMT can't make a single consistently good story ever since IV(SMT is great but i'm sad with what the franchise is becoming at the new writers's hand).
@@renren47618 the opening dungeon and Maruki are fantastic. Everything in between is just mid but the social links are there to mask the mediocre writing and pacing
@@MILDMONSTER1234Kamoshida, Futaba, Maruki and Sae's arcs are all amazing for me
The mid ones are Madarame and Kaneshiro
Okumura sucks
Shido is good
Yadabaoth is cool, i don't find it that great but i like how it thematically ties to Gnosticism
The social links and the other stuff makes it more enjoyable overall so in general i think that the only absolute low point of P5/P5R is Okumura.
I prefer the fabulous long hair femboi style, can I switch it back? TURN BACk, TURN BACK
So you're saying the story isn't fixed at all? WTF
Hearing they fumbled the plot a 2nd time is extremely discouraging, and tobe honest Im not convinced they nailed the gameplay either if true. People said, and somehow still do, that base SMTV had good, even "the best", gameplay. It did not. It was shit. The game had no story, shit combat, no heart or soul, and ran like ass to boot. Fucking up the re-release too is inexcusable.
The combats issue came from the level scaling and hp bloat.
The only SMT with better combat was 4A and everyone also hated that game too lmao
hope smt 6 in the future can be better like 3 and strange journey.
Heard the opposite about vengeance from other reviewers

To be honest, and hear me out here, as a SMT3 sequel? both canons are just OK plot wise
