- They said we were STUPID to consider a $200/day gate guarding job.
“They” meaning the RUclips know-it-alls watching us hustle from the comfort of their couch. 🙄
Our first gig was tough, for sure.
👷♂️👷♀️We worked 24/7 for 12 days straight, checking service trucks in/out every few minutes. We couldn’t leave the RV together so we had to intentionally schedule individual errand runs in between sleep hours.
But our next job?
👷♂️👷♀️ Joseph worked 83 days on one 12-hour overnight shift (7pm-7am) watching electrical equipment and I filled in when he needed more sleep. We COULD leave the RV together, but again, that meant cutting into Joseph’s sleep schedule because we had to be back by the 7pm start time.
We didn’t leave the RV very much.
So… was gate guarding worth it? 🤷♀️
For us, yes. It beats working at a campground for $13/hr! Plus, we had a very specific goal in mind-to save up for our dream trip to Alaska. Gate Guarding helped make that dream possible.
This work is ❌ NOT ❌ for the faint of heart. It takes a toll. We are still recovering from living on opposite shifts for the past 3 months and are relieved to know this part of our lives is behind us.
But if we had to do it again, we would. Gate Guarding is an excellent way to earn money to fund a travel lifestyle. And as you can see by our final total, it adds up pretty fast. 🙌

How do I find a job like fate guarding
Gate*
Find reputable Guard companies that service the area you are looking to be in. There are several in West and south centeral texas. Two companies I recomend are J&G and S&S. A lot of these companies have recruiters that will walk you through the process of getting certified etc. -J
Ooof they definitely don't pay you enough
Depends on how you look at it. What other job can you build your own RUclips channel, edit videos, etc while on the clock and living in your own home without signing any sort of long term contract?
@@OpenRoading when you guys drove up hiway 40 between Grande Cache and Grande Prairie, you drove within 100 yards of the gate that my wife and I guard 3 weeks on / 3 weeks off.
