Thank you for sharing your story with us. I am so sorry for your pain. I have been there, it is a very discouraging condition and it wears on you not only physically but emotionally. Our healthcare systems has so many barriers to getting appropriate care. It is so hard waiting for the order for UTI testing, waiting for culture results, waiting to see if this antibiotic will finally work, all the whilel being in pain. Trying to find someone willing to help is not easy. The infectious disease specialist I was referred to told me he is sure that my symptoms are n howt a UTI, "it has to be something else" But he has never had a UTI so how could he know how it feels.

like one of the other comments here, I've also been told that "it has to be something else"; I've had strep B (streptococcus agalacticae) at one point, and was told by one doctor that they only treat it in pregnant women, so they won't treat me, and by another doctor that it does not cause urinary tract infections / symptoms (despite showing up on culture, however together with another bacteria), well, since I don't have it anymore (but still have the other bacteria) my symptoms have been much better

You are so sweet! I suffer from recurrent infections as well and am on Methanamine Hipprate. I am doing well on it. Have had flares but that's expected. Wish you much luck xox

I have recurring strep uti's for the past year. I could never get in with the urologist. The NP kept prescribing antibiotics. I finally asked that my urologist at least look at my history and he prescribed estradiol cream inserted vaginally 3 times a week. I'm not symptom free but much better than a UTI every month. My GP refused to put me on hormones and I am in menopause. You are not alone. I have had UTI's since I was 16, except up until this year they had always come back e coli.

It's so important to advocate for yourself like you have (though it shouldn't be so necessary!). I'm glad to hear you're doing better and I hope it continues that way.

In most cases its because the insurance companies dictate to the drs what they can prescribe which is totally corrupt..
