- This year we're celebrating Valentine's Day a little differently than normal... We reached out to our Patreon backers to nominate an Ex of theirs (along with a statement they'd like us to share), and we then named a mouse after them and fed it to one of our reptiles!

To the anonymous person who had Karen fed to the snakes, I just want you to know that I come from a similar place. Being emotionally abused as a child is an incredibly traumatic experience. I hope seeing Karen be fed to the fox snake was cathartic for you in some way, and that you're in a better place now than you were in childhood. Much love from one survivor to another.

I feel like it was cathartic for a lot of people. I personally envisioned my step-witch. The damage she inflicted in just 4 years has already cost me 6 years in therapy and I was already a teen. My heart goes out to every child who was or is being emotionally abused by a parent. Its not okay and you all deserve/deserved better. Stay strong.

This is also great with horses when you feed them anytime like an apple because it starts foaming out of their mouth and it’s a little like your ex is is getting eaten AND blended :)
Especially when you feed them a peppermint because their mouth starts watering and it's like your ex was the best food they ever had

I'm always shocked at how horrible people's exes (and family) can be. My exes are all lovely people, and we still talk on occasion. I am glad that this catharsis exists, though, for people not as fortunate.
I mean there are always 2 stories, some put more shade on a ex than they deserve. Not saying all, some are just assholes, but still.
Agreed. I’m still on good or neutral terms with my exes. Even the one or two I fell out of touch with. They’re all good people. Just various things went wrong/were revealed that made the relationships not work.

I love this and similar ideas! My favourite was the cat shelter that teamed up with an office supply store, in exchange for a donation they would print a photo of your ex and shred it, then use the shredded paper in the litter boxes!
My fave is the guy who disregarded the assignment like, "maybe watching a mouse with her name get devoured by a snake would be a nice Valentine's gift for my wife."

I liked the explanation at the beginning on why you were doing this - makes total sense that other zoos etc would do this too - lots of catharsis and schaunenfruede (which I can never spell lol) for people for whom Valentine's Day is NOT a day of good memories :)

Eric/Terry was mine. It was definitely therapeutic to see Rex chomp him!
Wasn't his name, but mine lied about his mother dying in his arms and how he was too young to help. Used the trauma as a reason to hurt others. Turns out he wasn't even in the house... not that a mom dying is not bad or anything, but he recounted the lying of watching the life drain from his mom multiple times. I didn't find out for 8 years.

@xxx Yeah, it was something complicated. He was a compulsive liar, he struggled with addiction, and had a lot of anger issues. He was definitely a traumatized child. He never worked on that and made it my problem, so I made it not my problem. 😅

This was lovely. I imagined my ex-best friend as one of them (: who cruelly abandoned me without so much of a second thought. I have mostly recovered from my tireless months of grieving and being in a very dark place. I sincerely hope that your friends or anyone you meet will never suffer the same pain I went through. They mentioned in the most recent live that the blind turtle (Quasi) passed away after about a year 😢 He never grew and just died one day.

About the LACEY ACT!
I came up with an idea the other day and have been trying to gauge interest. I have Clint quite on board with the idea, and Adam from Wicken's Wicked Reptiles is also interested. If you guys are too that would be so awesome. I'm doing absolutely everything I can to spread awareness but my skills and abilities are limited. This is my idea:
Idea:
Get all the PetTubers to make a short part of a video where they talk about how this could affect them, their loved ones, their family members (heck, get as many kids in the thing as possible) their viewers, the communities as a whole, the planet for pete's sake! Then, send them to the person who wants to head this thing and get them to put all the footage together to make one mega animal positive video with everyone. Then post it in everyone's channel. At the same time if you can. I really feel like that would make a massive impact! I also say don't stop at reptiles. Get people like Emzotic on, I know Clint at least has access to her. Get the tiktok pet people in on it too, heck, put the famous pets on. Have them sad that as a dog they can travel, but that their turtle sister and bird brother have to be left behind! I have a lot of ideas if anyone needs them for something like this and I'm unwell but willing to help to the extent of my ability.

I know you guys posted this a while ago, but if you guys are doing this again for this upcoming Valentine's Day, I would like to make a contribution to naming one of the rats after my ex.
You know? I absolutely adore Ally (she's probably my favorite) but I have to be honest, I hated her name from the start. My last ex left me for a girl named Ally and I find it funny that Ally got the nameless mouse so I could put my own name to it... so my ex left me for someone who ate him in the end. How nice 😆

I would happily pay $20 to feed one of my “ex”’s to a snake. Only thing is, we never got into the relationship. He thought we were bf/gf but I pulled the line at just simply dating. He then got super manipulative and complained very vocally whenever I would hang out with some friend groups that he hadn’t been a part of when they were made, was upset anytime I did anything without him and most importantly to him, when I tried to spend some alone time for me and recovering from finals. At one point, he even tried to tell me that it wasn’t worth it to salvage a failing friendship. (Spoiler alert: I didn’t listen to him, salvaged that friendship and wound up marrying the friend) Eventually I said enough after he snapped at me one time too many. I had been trying to hang out with a friend before I was scheduled to hang out with him. He saw the both of us online and blew up at me before I had the chance to offer my story. I gave him the cold shoulder, no contact for a week as I worked 8 days straight. At the end of that, I sent him a “no longer even friends” message and he finally got the cue. So when you fed your snakes, I inserted one to be my “ex”. Thank you for sharing this with us. It was fun to watch.
