This definitely seems nicer than the Lectron one, but regarding the patent issue, what exactly was the patent for? If it is just the concept of a Tesla to J1772 adapter, I personally don't think that should be something you can get a patent for. The only thing novel about the TeslaTap is the PCB, which Lectron didn't copy. Everything else about the product is just connecting the corresponding Tesla and J1772 contacts together (which both companies didn't even do the same way).
I think the issue is in the combination LECTRON / IONIQ. I’ve this LECTRON adapter working flawlessly with my Polestar 2 for two months now; I use it when parking in downtown garages. I’ve a J1772 EVSE at home.
We have a gen 2 Tesla Mobile Charger connected to our 10-30 dryer plug in the garage. Needed an adapter for our 2024 Ioniq 5. Came across this video after I purchased the Tesla Tap mini 60A, and I can confirm Ioniq Guy’s review. Excellent build quality and works flawlessly. Don’t waste your time or money on the cheap Chinese knockoffs. I made the mistake of first ordering the Lectron, thinking I could deal with the hassle of the “Unsuccessful Charge” and then go in and start the car. Well, did not even get that far as the NACS port was deformed and would not fully receive the Tesla plug. Immediately returned the useless piece of plastic. Buy American and support this small business that makes an excellent product. You just spent $45K-$55K on your car, $300 for the most important connection is not going to break the bank. You get a product that is built to last and lines the pockets of Americans, not patent-infringing corporations.
Outstanding review and, in general, I really love your content. As a first-time owner of an EV (2024 Ioniq 5 Limited) I really appreciate all your insights. I bought the TeslaTap right after watching this.
If I didn't have the Tesla Tap non-mini, with the cable in between the two ends, I'd get this. I did only spend $160, but it is obnoxious to store, tho not impossible. It's never failed me, and I've used it for all 3 of my recent EVs, for emergency charging, and overnight hotel stays. It may not have paid itself off in electricity, but has in the sense of always having a backup plan. Only 2 tows from a wrecker in price, that's worth it.
I can understand your recommandation... Lectron for 180 Canadian versus your Tesla tap at 850 Canadian.... Price consider and the amount of time I may use it.... Definitely purchase Lectron

I bought the miniTap at the first place. The last thing you want when charging is needed is a problem with the adapter. It has to work every time. I saw to many bad reviews about the Lectron to spend my money on it. Good video. Thx.
Can you email your Hyundai contact about the tumblers going out to owners? Really curious why some are getting them and others not and why now some are reporting getting organizers instead of tumblers.
What a difference! and with the smaller size i think its a great option to have in the glove box especially if you travel a lot!. Thanks for the video.
So I see you have a charger cable strung along the wall and some kind of wall unit to hold it. Is that unit a purchasable product or is it something you just rigged up? I see a lot of potential in cutting down on cable clutter with something like this...
Great review, helped me make a decision, seeing how it fits in a coat pocket also was a selling point. Now to get the telsa mobile evse to round it off
Great review and great Product! Can you do one more test, is introduce a simulated power outage (power down teh Tesla EVSE) and wait 15 minutes and power it up again, see if the charging will resume. The reason I want to buy one of the Tesla Portable chargers and the TeslaTap mini, with that combo I have a mobil charger with option to 115 volt or 240 volt charge and also plug into a Tesla destination charger all in a nice little pack as the TeslaTap Mini is so small it can fit int he Tesla Mobil charger case.
Can that adapter be obtained in the European market? You can see Teslas everywhere which is shocking here in Spain, we buy like we were sheep instead of comparing different manufacturers. You can assume there are quite a few Tesla chargers around.
Very informative and helpful! When I get an Ioniq 5, I'll have to get one of these -maybe two, to use with my Tesla HPWC at home and my Tesla UMC when on roadtrips. I assume it works with the latter just fine…?
Can you use it at a Tesla Supercharger? Since there are no screens how do you setup an account? It’s a good alternative when your are in a region traveling and there’s only Tesla Supercharger in the area.
Do we know what would happen if TESLA changes firmware on the charger station and/or on the car side and then that PCB in the adaptor is no longer compatible?
there's no electronics in those I don't understand why it wouldn't connect/charge correctly everytime 🤔 is there any chips or transistor in that red thing in it?
Hey dude, Is there a way to get you a percentage of the sale of one of these? I really liked your review and plan on buying it but in case there was a promo code or something that gets you at least something for the great video and great advertisement you’re giving this company.
Hey Ioniq Guy, your videos kick ass! I have a question, would you think its an okay idea to have the Tesla Mobile Connecter/Charger coupled with the teslatap mini as my main EVSE for the i5? The reason for this is because my home only has a 10-30 outlet, and I want something that is UL listed, as well as not pay for something hardwired as I may move in a few years.
For sure! That would be a great combo plus for the future when Hyundai and all the others finally have the Tesla connector, you won't have to buy something else.

A lot of people on the Amazon reviews find that the connection to the Tesla charging stations is much too tight and they have trouble removing it. So you didn't experience this? Also, would you recommend the 80 amp version for $40 more than the 60 amp version?
@@TheIoniqGuy, thanks. Yes, that makes sense. I did decide to buy the 80-amp model in case that’s needed for a future EV. I ordered directly from the manufacturer to ensure that I get the latest model. Some people have reported very tight fits with some Tesla destination charging stations, and TeslaTap has updated the design (on both the 60- and 80-amp versions) to better accommodate those.

As a brand-new 2024 IONIQ 5 owner, I just now learned that there are important differences between the various Tesla chargers. After watching this video, I went out and bought the Mini. Today, before a big Thanksgiving road trip, I decided to do a quick test charge at a Supercharger, just to make sure I had the account setup and knew how to use the adapter. First thing, reading the instructions in the box, I see: "THIS PRODUCT DOES NOT WORK WITH TESLA SUPERCHARGERS!" OOPS! There's also warnings not to exceed 60 amps with this thing, so I can only imagine how much smoke would be emitted from trying it at a Supercharger! I appreciate the feedback and am sorry for any confusion caused by the video. If you tried to use it at the supercharger, nothing would likely happen as the communication protocol talking from the car to the charger wouldn't allow a charging session to begin. You currently cannot use Tesla Superchargers unless they have a built in Magic Dock. Access to non-Magic Dock Superchargers won't happen until sometime next year. Again, my apologies for any confusion. This is still a terrific adapter if you are staying at hotels that only have Tesla level 2 chargers.
