  • This one is probably going to get a copyright mark.
My JE510 was beginning to become unreliable when recording, so a new deck was in order. While the PC2 looks small and has a strangely "Sony" form factor, it opens up doors to actually titling tracks correctly without the need for another keyboard. It connects quite happily to Frank the Pentium III using a serial connection and Sony's MD Editor 2 software to allow me to use the PC as a remote control.

In case you still have the JE510, mine didn't record at all when I got it, and it turns out the plastic on which the magnetic record head on the top pivots had bent from age and heat, and the record head wasn't getting close enough to the disc... Have a look if that's your problem, it may be it's bent just enough to cause issues of it not being close enough at certain moments during the record cycle. In my case I heated it up a bit and bent it back to shape, and now it records great!!

I'm using a Pentium III PC that I built, that runs Windows Millennium Edition. If your PC is newer than 2010-ish, you may not have the serial port for the cable. While I've never tried, there are "Serial to USB" cables out there that may work - if you can get the software to run on newer versions of Windows.

Hi there, good video. can you save files/data to mini disc with that program on windows?

Hello! No, you can't put files on the minidisc via the application. This is a limitation of the disc itself, though. If you obtain a "Hi-MD" player/recorder and a 1GB MiniDisc (which is typically what Hi-MD recorders used) you can use the player/disc as an external drive, essentially.

@@ukozi Hi, Thank you! This is very helpful and I have decided I will invest in m a Hi-MD player/recorder as I want to get the most out of mini-discs.
is there plans for you to make a video in the future on this process?

@@darrenl5896 I just got my first Hi-MD compatible Minidisc recorder in yesterday! So yes, in the near future I will likely make a video about using it as USB drive.
