Bodie is proof that no matter how much you love the game, the game don't love nobodie
Haha
👍👍👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
So true
Nice pun, sir!
And it never did
Jesus, I came here to get a recap on Bodie, this man called out my current work situation and proceeded to tell me what I needed to do to solve it. What a legend.
Glad I could help! :)
He has a very intimate relationship with middle management hell 😂
@@MMOchAForPrezit was very personal 😂
Bodie Broadus is a resemblance of us who've had a really fucked up early life, managed to get out of it only to realise that there is no escape. The game is rigged, just as life, life is not fair. This in combination with his personality, ambitions, intelligence, principles and morals leads to a all-or-nothing type of mentality. Very relatable character, my favorite in television. A true and a real person will always be the one who leaves us first. The good ones always disappear first in life. This world don't deserve us.
Bodie is such a fantastic character. His arc is definitely one of the most interesting in the show.
He's my favorite on the show. I was sick when he died!!!
Always my favorite. Him and slim. True soldiers.
For a while, to me, he WAS the show, his character out-developing McNulty’s
(And I’m from Bodymore, Murderland, for what ever it’s worth)
He struggled to understand when enough is enough he only really paid attention when he got Kevin killed
He was a great character until he snitched. That didn’t seem like the right end for him, should’ve just died by sticking to his code from the old days.
The way McNulty looked at Bodie on the park bench was heartbreaking bc he knew Bodie was stuck in a bad situation 😢
Fact!!! McNulty knew it was a matter of time before he would’ve got caught up like he did....
Shit sad because I have friends just like bodie
Yes!!!! He saw it coming
@@jasminehill6312 when u finally get the respect he fought for his whole life but now it’s to late
Monk had to run and go tell... but at the same time, Bodie broke one of Biggie's Ten Crack Commandments... "if you ain't gettin' bagged, stay the F from police."
My favorite character. The satisfaction of seeing your soldier get promoted is what you do it for. He played the cards he was dealt. No family ties like avon, not wild and senseless as marlo. Young buck with a old soul that respects the elders before him. Sadly guys like that don't exist no more
Bodie= middle management hell
I think all of us feel like Bodie at some point when we've been stuck in crazy situations at work due to the actions of others!
Ppp
Bodie wasn't middle manegment
@@tomaberovic3797 he ran a corner but had to be subordinate to bigger figures. He started as a pawn, then advanced but got stagnated, then terminated.
@@blksheep176 he ran one of the towers at some point before they went down. He was also in al the meeting that were held in church (chair recognised him...). To say that is a middle menagmet in presumably huge organisation who was the biggest in west Baltimore, for me would be false.
I agree. Bodie is one of the best written characters in television history. JD Williams did an exceptionally great job in his portrayal.
If Bodie didn't take a few missteps he could have become the next Slim Charles
I agree with you Slim Charles was a OG
Slim tried to put him up to game. Tried to save his life
For some reason, Bodie didn't respect Slim. I can't really figure it out, either. I know he respected the hell out of Stringer, which I can't understand, unless it was just because of his position and the fact that he promoted him after the Wallace hit and Dee going to jail. But Bodie treated Slim like he was his peer, when really I would consider Slim to be above Bodie, if not in street status, at least in age and wisdom.
@@KtotheG Bodie respected Slim. Slim supplied Bodie with the good dope and they both served in the Barksdale Organization. There was definitely respect but Bodie was hard headed. He was frustrated over having to bow down to Marlo and take his package. He was frustrated Slim couldn't help him due to Slim working with Prop Joe, who was trying to recruit Marlo and work with the boy so Marlo would join the Co-Op. He was frustrated over his own lack of muscle and inability to fight back against Marlo. And he was frustrated by how twisted the game was getting because of Marlo. There were a lot of factors but Bodie and Slim did respect one another. It's just sad Bodie couldn't keep his head down and avoid being targeted by Marlo.
That is crazy accurate
Bodie's work-ethic as a middle-management guy in the streets is what managers in the legit world dream of.
No non-sense, does exactly what he is told & also sees to it to make sure his subordinates do the same. A little hotheaded though since he was still young. His potential was huge but like you said...his options were limited.
Two things that caused Bodie's ending.
1. He was a hothead. He didn't stop and think logically in a business. He acted on emotions. Look at Slim Charles vs Bodie. Slim is just as cold, if not colder, than Bodie "Who we hittin'?" But Bodie was quick to react emotionally. He needed more flex. He also didn't see that things were changing and make moves that would benefit him. He just stayed a soldier instead of an officer.
2. Lex killing Fruit because of Patrice set in motion a series of events that caused his death.
A. Lex kills Fruit, B. Marlo sets up Lex, using Kevin to tell Lex. C. Kevin gets Randy to do it, then tells Randy what happened. D. Marlo finds out that Kevin told Randy so he kills Kevin, putting him in a vacant. D. Bodie sees Kevin being pulled out of the vacant and breaks the windows on the cop car. E. Gets arrested. F. McNulty takes him to lunch. G. Monk sees Bodie with McNulty and tells Marlo. H. Bodie gets killed.
Bodie was too emotional, but he was still young. He wasn't as old as Slim Charles, who had the most street wisdom next to Avon. Bodie and Stringer became close after Avon got locked up, because String trusted him as his ear to the street. Bodie would've went through a brick wall for Stringer, but String wasn't worthy of such loyalty, because he was an effective CEO and he never cared about anyone but himself.
It doesn't matter nearly as much as what you're saying, but another interesting thing about Bodie that I always found intriguing is that he was a terrible shot.
I dig how you’re utilizing The Greatest TV Series EVER to give real life business advice. Subscribed, keep this up!!
Nobody respect season 2
@@anthonymede9216 you got too, season two was about the death of the working class, and the main character of “the wire” is Baltimore so you have to show as much of the city as you can
Bodie was my favorite character. I wanted to see him advance further the chain, either as a soldier, or a higher level lieutenant. Neither the Barksdale or Stansfield organization utilized this guy to his full potential. And then in the end he fell due to Marlo's paranoia.
@Colby Martinez Bodie was Stringer little homie
Slim Charles was the right guy to guide him but he would've live he just lay lowed but the game was in him
Marlo was practicing the Godfather philosophy with Bodie, i.e. "keep your friends close, but your enemies closer." He never had any intention on developing Bodie. He kept him close to watch him, because he knew he was a threat. Bodie challenged Marlo's authority from the jump when he encroached upon one of his corners. Avon couldn't really develop him, because he was in jail for much of Bodie's rise and Stringer had no intention of being fierce in the streets. He wanted to run the organization like a legitimate retail corporation. Slim Charles tried to tell Bodie to be patient, but that fire was burning too hot in him.
@@razorsharp9545 He didn't really respect Slim Charles like that. Slim tried to school him, but he kept bucking. Bodie loved Stringer, but Stringer wasn't going to mold him into a lieutenant. He liked him where he was at.
This guy is a great actor. I've watched him in Oz The Wire and Saints and Sinners. He's always had a good role.
He is! He was phenomenal. I felt that performance.
I was bodie in the navy. Stuck at E5 for years. To valuable to let go. Not marketable enough to stand behind. Luckily I was able to transition and become my own boss. People like us have a passion that others won't see but manipulated to early we invest it in the wrong path and our morals won't let us do the things others will lacking integrity. Find your true path Bodies. There are no walls to stop us when we find it.
Maybe because you never learned how to properly use the word to. too, two.
@@austinisfullpleasedontmove653 No probably because of what I said. Its also sad that you went to college and got a masters degree in English but you couldn't find work in your field so now you are correcting grammar in random RUclips comments.
Great Breakdown you earned my subscription and i also truly enjoyed this Bodie. He was so complex despite being labelled a pawn he was fairly integral.
Thank you!
One of the greatest characters of all time. One of the best character arcs of all time as well.
This is why to me The Wire is one of the best tv series of all time. The series has a tremendous amount of depth as far as character creation, story, etc. The Wire literally describes the who what and why of why our urban cities are the way they are from the streets, law enforcement, local government, school system, drug rehab, and judicial system. This is why the solutions are a whole lot more complicated than most people think because as shown in this series, there are a lot of moving parts that affect each other. If Bodie grew up in a two parent upper middle class environment, he would probably be a lawyer, doctor, etc.
"You make it happen" was the biggest mistake I make transitioning from the military to the civilian world. I put in work while I was in, but I had people invested in my success. There, your success is also someone else's. When the pawn takes a piece, everyone else above him gets to benefit. You put in work, they give you more work, but there is an actual light at the end of the tunnel. Everyone can eat if the game is played right. You are completely disposable, but there's enough potential to achieve something.
It doesn't work like that in the real world. You put in work & they just give you more work. They just use you & spit you out.
4:01 - Bodie actually told the police of the bodies in the row houses. They didn’t pick up on it. He also told them that Marlo did it. I’m surprised that McNulty didn’t pick up on the other bodies in the vacants. McNulty would have loved it. Not only finding to the bodies but driving up the stats to Rawls chagrin.
They did know that’s what they was doing getting body’s out the vacant and they knew it was marlo but they can’t prove it
Poot did not take the gun cus Bodie hesitated.... they was killing their friend. They had to do it together. Those 3 came up together, you heard
Exactly
@@diverseconscious5262 that’s what I’m sayin’!,!,!
That’s how it’s done both get credit you come in together and you go out together! You both have to do the deed! You are correct
@@diverseconscious5262 this show requires certain... life experience to understand...
@ Waste O'Paint facts!
I was pissed when Bodie was killed
I was more hurt , i understand it had to be done sayn he was conversing wit Mcnutty( in my Bubbles voice) but I still just had love 4 Bodie..
Right fuck marlo he had a reason
Probably the saddest death in the series.
Me too!
@@shawnhall7274 I often want to say “McNutty” too but worry some won’t get it :-)
Bodie and Slim Charles were my favorite.
That was a perfect description of Bodie middle management hell. He never really advanced past a crew leader. He was stuck in a rut.
My favorite character. Bodie was a true rider.
Hated him in Oz. Loved him in The Wire.
At the end of the day Bodie did it go himself. He hated Marlo so much that he ended agreeing to snitching on him when he had the sit down with McNulty when he was the same one who took Wallace out for being a snitch. Mind you he was in the car with Stringer Bell and Stringer asked him was he a soldier and tough enough to take his friend out while the whole time Stringer Bell ended snitching on Barksdale. Barksdale was the most solid one besides Marlo, Chris, Snoop, Slim Charles, and WeeBay.
You can’t forget about Bird
Bodie and Poot killed Wallace because he was weak. They feared he might snitch or hesitate when it's time to do some dirt. Stringer killed him for being weak. He hadn't snitched.
@@Tkieron What U mean he didn't snitch? He told McNulty about D catching those female bodies.
@@Tkieron and yeah I agree he was weak.
Michael was the most solid but also lucky. Him joining Marlo’s group turned him to a trained assassin. If he had ppl like Weebaby, DeAngelo, Slim or even Avon around him after his guidance would’ve been better. If he LISTENED to CUTTY OR HIS TEACHER, he would’ve had a BETTER LIFE!
Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. This Summary of Bodie is exactly what I've dealt with in my career. My eyes are opened now.
Bodie's face when McNulty says "Kid's got a point"
Best character and imo also the best actor in The Wire, change my mind. Wood Harris and Michael K Williams only ones who perform on the same level
Know this! the wire is my number 1 show. Lions and legions doing cool things. I subscribed.
Bodie mentioned the big money jobs to Michael, because he feels like, 'what's the point of going to school if you're going to live average?' Bodie's desire was to be a kingpin eventually. He saw the street as his only way to success, because school was never stressed as important in his life.
There's a few inconsistencies w/this breakdown:
1. That shootout was from Season 2 & that wasn't a Stanfield crew, that was an independent crew on the West Side.
2. When Marlo approached Bodie in Season 4 the ultimatum was either take his package or "step-off." Meaning that if he decided not to take his package, it was going to be problems for Bodie.
And he said Bodie wasn't there at the shootout. But he was. He told bro with the bat to back up.
He definitely got some info twisted. They even had a show down before the shootout.
@@blackcitytv2216 these are facts.... basically using The Wire to increase viewership 🤷🏾♂️
@@JustDaveNJD-evil right, probably only watched clips from youtube
Also Michael shot Bodie in the head not “0-Dog” like WTF! Did this guy just mix up Menace II Society with The Wire 🤣🤣🤣🤣
@@TheVoiceOfReason187 😂😂😂😂 bro on god, shot him twice.. I'm like nigga WTF is you talking about, o dog lmao, that's whole another production 😅😅🤣😅🤣😅
The ending review was very well said sir. Great job
Man this made me think about my life thank you
Were you from trap -STL
Bodie had that coming Slim Charles tried to warn him and he didn't wanna listen and he should have live to fight another day. But he was too hard headed and that is why he got killed
LMFAO at that thumbnail! That is the perfect way to sum up Bodie within his organization
"Sum up"
@@illsolo5996 Duh, what was i thinking
Bodie was my favorite character and I wept when he died.
Randomly coming across this channel was too damn good. Trying to remember a great series whilst getting educated to develop myself in my career. Nothing more than truer words and a wake up call from this man.
Thank you
Like so many Bodie just needed a father. That picture of him and McNulty showed me that.
That park bench scene, when he says "I feel old", that really resonated with me. And i can't believe I just came across this video cause it was such a good summary of his arc and a thoughtful analysis. Bodie is my favorite character honestly. And you capped it off with a really applicable explanation for how it would apply to a work related setting that I needed to hear honestly. Thank you 🙏
Bodie is one of few who showed emotion and the struggle we sometimes have within ourselves
My favorite character for sure
I needed the ending of this 🙏🏽
I didn't expect this to be what it is. It's very good!
Bodie couldve made it if he controlled his emotions long enough to wait for marlo's situation to play out, he would've been solid under Slim
Not just solid, He was a smart kid and he was willing to learn too, Hes down to earth Im sure he wouldve learned alot from Slim and became the next king when Slim Stepped down for sure.
I really want to know what the advice was that Slim offered him that he said he didn't want to hear.
Mmm! I hear that. But Bodie couldn't run off that corner, that's the only way he would of survived longer.
@@Mr_DPZ was gonna probably tell him to just kiss Marlo ring and survive and keep his mouth shut...
@@Mr_DPZ I think he was gonna take Bodie under his wing and have him work for prop joe alongside him.
Bodie and stringer were my favorite characters, two great characters
Stringer? Stringer was an ass. He forgot where he came from. Yeah he still had some gangster in him. But he took a few Econ classes and start spouting what he heard in his classes like he knew what he was talking about.
Then he started going behind Avon's back to do dirty things. He went to Marlo talking about business and saying they'd let things like the beating on Bodie slide. Marlo saw that weakness and went to war with Avon. He also tried putting Omar on Brother Muzone behind Avon's back and almost cost him the entire organization. In the end his best friend, his childhood friend had to let Stringer go in order to save his reputation and NY connection. Without it he'd have no money, no muscle besides local and no way to get any other help. Marlo could have easily taken him out then. He didn't listen to his people when they tried to tell them that ignoring the corners would make them seem weak. He thought in terms of business. He even got schooled by Clay Davis. Then wanted to throw Slim Charles' life away to kill a Senator.
All in all he forgot where he came from and where he was. He should have saved that business stuff for his legit money. Staying Gangsta on the streets.
Mines was Stringer& Omar& the captain
So Many Years Have Pass And His Death On The Show Still Stings Me.....Bodie Was The Man
Excellent synopsis.
Bodie went out like a real G.
Bodie and Wallace are a good example of the game picks no sides or favors no side.
This touched me personally and made me somewhat emotional. Thank you for this superb evaluation and most importantly, for the advice.
Wow... amazing assessment. This is so me
2:46 he claimed entrapment. That’s how he escaped arrest in Season 3.
one my favorite scenes , Bodie tenses up when Chris and Marlo step to him, Chris like hold "on SON , we just talking NOW " Marlo like what's your name, Boney, Biddy ?? then tells him to work their supply or step off, then turns his back to Bodie and walks off ..
Forgot about his older brother James who was in the game and got killed as well. That scene with City and Slim ends with them walking off and Bodie looks around, then follows them, showing his search for guidance. Great video!
This is REAL 💯
Bodie was a soldier n your videos are bad ass
It’s crazy everything he said at the end of this video is true
I got to give it o Bodie, He's a Loyal Soldier
I bet the guy running the funeral flower store, the "I think I am on it" dude, was in the same game before.
I agree with everything you said except bodie being able to be an astronaut or accountant. he is from the westside of baltimore....victim of circumstance. he made as far as the system would allow to go. let's keep it real. great video none the less.
Good advice on the end.
LOVE LOVE LOVE these videos man, they are so awesome and explain things so well, the fact you pick out characters from tv shows and single then out in there own video makes it that much better with smart intellect and common sense all from a business/growth point of view! Keep em coming, I’ll keep liking, commenting and sharing and I bet within a short period of time you’ll be at 100k+ subs in NO TIME!!
We need more of these
You are awesome
Love this!
Yo this is Excellent Analysis
Mike Lee shoots Bodie. Not O-dog. He inherits Bodie's corner.
I like your videos and breakdowns.... Avon and Mike needs to be on deck.. they were the best leaders
Its ironic that JD Williams came from Oz, in it,he was given so much acting range and from watching him in the wire. I feel that his acting range and potential was wasted. So I would definitely say that JD is a true star employee.
2 of the greatest hbo series
He got pigeon holed playing the same annoying character who always takes L's......no range at all..... fact.
THE WAY YOU BROKE IT DOWN... DUDE!!! DUDE!!! YOU A ( EXCUSE ME CUSSIN) FUCKI G GENIUS!!! IF YOU EVA WANNA RUN FOR PUBLIC OFFICE... YOU GOT MY VOTE!!! THANK YOU FOR THAT!! YOU HELPED ME SEE THINGS DIFFERENT!! GOD BLESS YOU... YO FAM...AND FRIENDS!!!

thank you!
Just like mcnulty said at the end of season 4 he’s a soldier fr
6 months late but these videos are incredible. Love the breakdowns
Well said keep doing more of these videos 💯
Interesting and well thought-out content. Nice. (Speaking of your points on the series, not the stuff on leadership/professional advic)
The writing and character complexity of the wire is really rare.
Also your points help highlight Bodie as one of the true protagonists of the Wire.
Dam you just assessed me in my current occupation
This happened to me at my previous job. I dipped ✌🏾
Bodie is one of my favorites!!!! He was really hoping that he'd be a smart azz pawn.😢
prob my fav character in the show, along with bubbles... i see a lot of myself in bodie. Avon is the man, i fucks with Omar heavy, Prop Joe was cool, n slim charles was dope too.
Fun Fact: The real Avon Barkesdale was actually named Bodie
Also he hated being called Avon but would rather be called Bodie
You should definitely do one about Weebay.
Definitely subscribed idk how I got here but great video
Great character.
This is wild, I just realised I was a Bodie 😅🤔🤷🏾♂️ ... Now the preexisting relatability makes sense ...
the way you do these break downs and bring in corporate life is brilliant! almost sexy even 😂😂😂
Bodie was like the foundation of the show, and its a shame Marlo just overlooked him like he was trash
I love your videos bro
Long live bodie
You should definitely do on Snowfall!
Do one on Chris Partlow
I like bodie as I like slim
Two of the best characters on TV!
How did you say Namond incorrectly? They say it so many times in the show 😆
Bodie unfortunately is a product of the system. Even when you have potential unfortunately you can’t see it because you don’t know better.
Preach
McNulty wasn’t stricken with grief cuz Bodie died, he liked the kid, but he was cursing his luck because he was about to turn him, which wouldve given him what he needed to bring down marlo
FEARLESS!!!
hated bodie when he shot wallace?? and loved him when it came for his time to go... he is the wire's best creation.
Awesome, well-explained analysis...
But I can't ignore an important fact: O-Dog didn't kill Bodie. Michael Lee did.
No he didn’t. It was o dog
I only watched the Wire cuz I saw the scene when Bodie dies. I hated his character in Oz so much, I wanted to see him get killed again lol. But I grew to like Bodie so much, I felt bad when he died
