    Great video Baotran . Things look so nice in your G/H. Beautiful Kingianum plant. My are still babies so they are tiny. What other kind of orchids do you have in the G/H that can get down to 40 F at night. I just have Cattleya's and Vanda's and Dendrobiums in my G/H, so mind only gets to 60 at night. My temps outside at night are 30 F and down to 8 F so far this winter. Keep up the great work.

      +Susan Spencer The den nobiles and cymbidiums can take down to 40F. They are very hardy and can deal with the cold temps and need it to bloom. Your GH actually has way better heating than mine then! My phals suffered the worst. They don't like anything below 60.

    I see you have a huge bunch of Spanish moss at the back there so it must get water. Congratulations on your presentations.

    That was a really nice and informative video, thank you for sharing your experiences.
    I think I will just keep my D. Berry which has only 50% kingianum in its parentage but has similar flowers and is very easy to grow. :)

    Did you use any bark or just the clay pellets? I have the same orchid and since he has to be repotted every yr I thought the clay pellets would work so much better.

    I have mine on a cold windowsill which is near a radiator, my kings are growing new growths despite drastic reduction in water and nutrient, BUT IM NOT GETTING A SPIKE T^T , I get tiny tiny nubbins/ sheaths that looks like they are going to do something, but no...they have not done anything over the past month. I'm going to try putting my kings outside, thanks for the tips!

    You're freaking adorable, get out of here!! That hair, that sweater, that squeaky cute voice. Adorbs! lol Man, it's going to take my den. king. 20 years to get it that size! That's amazing. Did you purchase it that size? Thanks for the tips. I'm doing FWC on my king. den. right now to get it to grow some nice roots. It's coming along nicely; grew 3 keikis and tons of new root tips. However, next year I'm going to wean it to SWC and then give it a dry winter rest period when the time comes. Going to see if I can get buds this way. Who knows. All these experiments of mine might end up complete fails but I won't die happy unless I try! hahaha. I'm a rebel without a cause. Thanks for the sweet shoutout on our group. You're one of us now even though you don't practice water culture hahahha!

      Lol thanks Sam! I can't let you be the only one who looks pretty! Lol.
      I support rebels who don't know when to quit! That's why I like the water culture group :)
      Anyway these guys grow really fast! I bought it when it was half the size. And since then it's doubled in size in the last year. It's actually smaller in real life but I think my ridiculously small stature makes you think the plant is huge. But no worries this sucker is a fast grower, especially in the spring and summer.

    Enjoyed this video thanks . I bought a rather large Dendrobium delicatum which needs repotting soon . Will it be alright for me to do this now as we are moving into autumn/fall weather here in South Africa, or will it be alright to wait till spring?

      No they aren`t just sun till about mid day,an open orchid mix,feeding during the growing season,with a good orchid food,and fresh air,dont molly coddle them,they`re hardier than you think.

    I wonder if I can pull this off with my Den. kingianum. It's potted in semi-hydro. Once buds form, is it okay to resume a normal watering schedule?

    • @BaotransBotanicals
      @BaotransBotanicals  8 лет назад

      +Ryan Joseph Constantino I have met some people who grow their kingianums in water culture without media. And they got it to bloom! They move the plant to a cold location and take out all the water and occasionally mist the roots. But that's it. Then when buds form you can wait for about a week or two and then give it a good mist and slowly add water.

    Hi Boatran, About 3 weeks ago I purchased a kingianum that has several spikes. However, it looks quite a few of the buds are blasting. I've misted it some and have kept it in an southeast window and the humidity is around 40-50%. Should I be doing something else or just chalk it up to a change in environment? Thanks.

    How old is your kingianum?

  • @sakyadrolma
    @sakyadrolma 9 лет назад

    I've been missing your videos Baotran! So my kingianum is outdoors is in its dry winter rest and it's also starting to spike. My environment is similar to yours in regard to warm sunshine during the day (70-80ºF) and a drop in the night time temperature to about 50ºF. My question is, when do you break the winter rest? Also, what's your fertilized regimen throughout the year with these guys and do you use a bloom booster? Thanks!

    • @BaotransBotanicals
      @BaotransBotanicals  9 лет назад

      Aw thanks Georgina! :) So glad you have spikes as well! What color is yours?
      I break with the winter rest about 1 month after I see nubbins come out. The reason is that I wanted to see if there would be more nubbins or not. Since they come at different times, I didn't want to have just one spike nubbin and then stop the winter rest and only get one spike. I do the same with my den nobiles as well because some canes get nubs faster than others on the same plant.
      And yes I do use a bloom booster. I use Better Gro fertilizer and bloom booster. I also add magnesium and calcium (the liquid kind) for plants. I mix it all together into a Miracle Grow hose attachment and spray my plants once a week.

    • @sakyadrolma
      @sakyadrolma 9 лет назад

      Thanks for the info Baotran. I only have two spikes so I'm going to hold off on watering till I get more nubbins. It seems to be working for you! Wish I had a green house and good tap water like you do so I could hose my plants. We don't get Miracle Grow here in Europe, though my mother used to use it when I was growing up back in the States. I use Orchid Focus here, but after hearing so many wonderful things about fish emulsion and kelp fertilizers, I might give it a go and try making some, since I actually live about 40 meters from the sea. As for the color of my kingianum, I haven't seen any blooms yet, but it's supposed to be a pinkish purple.

    They shouldn't have a complete stop with watering, even in winter they need water. Just less often.

    I tried water culture and the result is ....all of my orchids are death, so to me please do not try.
