Uthermal I appreciate all the kind words. I actually feel really bad for not giving you your well deserved GG. And I appreciate you answering my questions after the game about what I could have done better despite the no GG.
My regular gameplay is pretty similar to this challenge, unfortunately: lots of battlecruisers, lots of mines. It's actually been pretty eye-opening for me, and I learned some things from watching. I don't take notes while watching, no, but I probably should. 1) Trading is okay. If your entire army dies, it's fine! Maybe. As long as the opponent suffers worse, it's completely okay. This is amplified in BCs, where you pay 400-300 for a Yamato and a Jump, and the rest of the ship is a complimentary gift. They're basically telling you to walk in, Yamato, jump out, repair, then repeat. If a battlecruiser goes down, but it took 10 workers and some army with it, then you should be trying to repeat that until the game ends. 2) Harassment is key. Battlecruiser+Mine is a pretty defensive composition(in my hands at least), but no matter what, you have to push out onto the map with something so that your opponent doesn't feel like they're playing In Utter Darkness as Amon. 3) Tempo is key. I feel like this is more of a mental thing than actual gameplay, but mental's important too. If you can constantly harass, constantly attack, and your opponent can't break your tempo, then they'll start going along with you, constantly defending, never moving out. At that point, they aren't waiting to strike back, they're just waiting to defend, and that means they're waiting to lose. 4) If you're going to commit, COMMIT. If a base is getting mauled by the opponent, as long as that's not your only base, do NOT tell your units on the other side of the map to come back. A fight on your territory will most likely have you losing both army and economy, while a fight over your opponent's base may kill workers and even bases while no one's paying attention. These are the things I've learned from watching uT's challenges, this one in particular. Please feel free to add points or expand on anything if you'd like.
Queues into literally random barcode. 7:39 "There's always a chance my opponent is playing random." :D Jokes aside, another fantastic ep. Loving this series!
Based on that hilarious proxy bunker play, I think a “proxy bunker to GM” series would be solid, assuming you haven’t done it before! Either way, great video as per usual!
"Is there any other challenge where I can make hellions?" -Uthermal "...." -That poor zerg's soul leaving his body after having 12 hellbats dropped on his face.
Corruptor - 150 M, 100 vespene 200 HP - 29 second hatchtime 2 supply - takes 40 corruptors to one shot a Battlecruiser or 39.28.. However BC has default armor that is very high. Battlecruiser is 400 M, 300 Vespene. at 20 battlecruisers... 120 supply. verse 60 corruptors - 120 supply... If you can yomato like a god.. (YOMATO fire start range is 10 then its very very far, and special skills must be used to dodge once fired. 20 BC's verse 60 corruptors... if you yomato and then T jump out... you can typically lose 3-4 BCS, or 0 - 1 if you very good. Thats 3k M and 2k vespene you can instantly destroy in corruptor value and then Tactical jump to safety and repair and repeat in 71 seconds. (when BCs' lost energy for a timer it nerfed teh BCs a lot) Basically everything comes back off cool down every 1 minute and 11 seconds or 1:11. Strange... Terran Krptology-coms. If you keep repeating this you can be far ahead, on large maps... Bc has a fairly good advantage... With mines to ward off the corruptors you cna kite quite well... Never be affraid of corruptors when you have Yomato researched... its kill free, warp, repair... The best thing about battelcruisers is its abiltiy to be mobile and still shoot... Its 29 seconds to rebuild those corruptors... also .. 20 battle cruisers verse 40 corruptors at that poitn or 17... there is a pretty good chance you will come out a head. 20 BC = 8000/ 6000 60 COrruptors = 9000/6000 It's almost an equal cost build relation. Corruptor kills a battlecruiser in about 53.44 seconds. Each corruptor obviously increases the speed of that. So ten corruptors can kill a BC in 5.344 seconds... and 5 - 10.68 seconds. Battlecruiser kills a Corruptor in about 6.78 seconds. Whats funny is that on paper the supply cost of a BC should be around 8-9.. since if you have max BC's on your populace... against 100 corruptors... you should win.. 33 Bc's verse 100 corruptors. Each fully upgraded and researched tech... BC' should Yomato and tactical jump... away... and then run around until they can gain as much time back on tehir yomato cannon.. to do again... battle of attrition.. Kind of reminds me of some Japanese sega games I played, wher eits liek defend hte base, protect this, while your charging your massive I win cannons, lol. After the second volley of yomato cannons if nothing is rebuilt the Bc's should win...
Most interesting to me is how "almost legit" BC + WM always is -- remove the restriction on making other units, and it comes absolutely alive as a strong way to play Terran. Add one small hit squad Ghosts and/or Cyclones, and you've dealt with nearly every threat to the BC + WM composition. I'd love to see uThermal take the padded gloves off in a final game, once he is done with this challenge. Still go for BC + WM, but build other units here or there to address problems. Just see how strong it actually is.
How about a "Full Turtle Terran" challenge? No fighting without being within one screen or so of a friendly building (landed, or a command center on the way to a base location, not a flying barracks scout). I figure that would be a great way to flex some of the really defensive aspects of Terran, though admittedly it might be kind of slow. For faster games, proxy play and proxy planetaries could be a way to lean sort of passive-aggressive. Allowing or banning reaper/scv scouting and so on could help tune the difficulty if needed. Maybe allow ghost-nuke play as one way to speed up mid/late game as well, in the spirit of Ghandi? Bonus points for shenanigans like flying over multiple command centers to a suitable choke point or the like in the mid/late game to set up a super fortified planetary-based outpost.
Awesome as allways. Considering the success of the BC content... May I suggest a proxy Skytoss (any type, mix it up) to GM as well? It would tickle me in a similar way.
Why are you always dropping all mines directly into the mining area, wouldn't it be more effective to drop the first one in front, to cut off the escape path, and the second one into the propes? Right now it feels like 99% of the time the enemy just moves out with the probes leaving the mines behind useless.
I always wanted to ask, how you counting your workers instantly? Just at any time you're saying "oh, I have exactly 100 workers" or "78", where is this magic counter?
Insane to me how fast some of these pro gamers can read information. Thermy selected that widow mine for like .1 miliseconds before it died and was like “wow that had 10 kills”! To me it looked like the info window just flashed for a second but somehow he was able to read the amount of kills while also microing
Love the series Marc! You got so high mmr so fast. So when it's time for a new challenge I'm thinking cyclone liberator would be really cool and have a ton of micro potential thanks!
New challenge, no scouting the enemy base/natural/third area except for via Scans or through full force attacks (that MUST fight to the death, cant be an SCV or Reaper, must be an attack that could theoretically realistically win you the game) prior to 6 minutes.
Can you do a challenge where 1 of your SCVs cant die. Just choose 1 at the start of a match, hotkey them and you have to make sure they live the entire match. If they die, you forfeit. Ive never seen a challenge like this done and SCV babysitter to grandmaster would be easy right?
You talk about your gf and your brother (who does your editing?). Would you talk about the people in your life a bit more? Maybe it's just me, but I love hearing about this stuff.
StarCraft 2 has been out for years, was hoping non professional players catched up in terms of skills, evidently that is not true. My guess is the amount of time non pro put in is just to little compared to professional
IMO it's rather unsatisfying to have a game where someone just randomly leaves before any good action happens. I'd support it if you made like a 5 second pic that explains there was a game, they left, and what the MMR change was.
Uthermal I appreciate all the kind words. I actually feel really bad for not giving you your well deserved GG. And I appreciate you answering my questions after the game about what I could have done better despite the no GG.

he will be my pro at life as well
I'd be more keen to getting coached by thermy than a "real" pro
Thanks for the reminders of why I love this game so much, uThermal!

that Zerg had some of the best Creep spread I have ever seen, good game
I love how he complements the zerg players performance at the end.
He is a true sportsman!!
The zerg got terraned. 3 mines basically lost the fight for him.

3.3k to 100k!!!!! Let’s GOOOOO!!!!!!!! 🔥🔥
I don't know why, but after I tried this style on the ladder people wished death and cancer on me and my family.

This series has such an economic element to it.

I was trying to think of something similar to BC Widow Mines for Protoss and I think a hilarious series would be Tempest Sentry.
3:39 you see the dead probe

hey just so you know, this is the proper title format.
Therm, run the mines and burrow them under the BCs so he can’t see they are there! 👍🏽
Battlecruiser
Blinky boys to GM?
only units that blink
prism allowed
So… mass stalker / dt? The four gate gets you to Gm anyway, would prob be kinda boring
his name was Robert Pulson, his name was Robert Pulson......his name was, Robert Pulson

Love you videos señor Tapatío
I cheesed a Protoss with a BC yesterday, and he also had most of his gates on one pylon, and only two stalkers. You can probably guess what happened
Sharp play vs not so sharp play :)
The bunker-mine sandwich was narsty.
Let's go!

5:43 Observer at base, might have seen what's coming next already.

Title should be cattlebruiser 🐄
cattlebruiser.

Yah my favourite strategy when I played actively 1v1 was tank lib very defensive into battlecruiser viking lib
great games as always! last game: not easy to take a 6th base? top left is easy to take I guess? no?
Its funny i got bad map awareness but i instantly spotted the obs at 5:43 the brain of a 80 apm masters player at work lol
Reaper / Widow mine to GM when? Lmao
