I was born and grew up in Sri Lanka watching this series back in the day, I think about 25 years ago. It influenced my little mind so much. I’m a grown up man now, living in a different country. A lot of things have changed but Oshin still crosses my mind when I see someone waste food just because they can afford to. I still remember how hard life was for little Oshin just surviving on radish rice and helping her poor mother make ends meet. Oshin was just fictitious but the reality is there are millions of little Oshins out there in this world.
Oshin still tells me why we have to be thankful for what we have in our lives.
I would love to get my daughters watch this series one day. Oshin will teach them a lot of life lessons they would otherwise not come across with.

I'm Iranian and we all love Oshin and Japanese culture , I remember when I was 3 or 4 or something, my late mom loved this series so much ,she cried a river for her , I asked her why are you crying for her? She said I wish you never understand why I am crying ... she passed away 3 years ago and unfortunately I understood.

I am from India and I watched it in 1990
You would not believe how my mom was in love with this series. We had no idea wt they were talking as the series was in japanese language with english sub. It was telecast in our national channel in early 90's. My mom used to come back home early from office at the weekend just to watch the show. And me, my sis and my mom enjoyed the series together. I know the elderly oshin actress passed away in 90's. But really wished to kno if the kid and young oshin is still alive.

I'm from Australia. SBS our government foreign language channel ran this in the mid to late 80s. I loved this show and I want to cry when I hear this song. Oshin...Oshin... okasan. If you watch all the episodes, that's about 64hours. Almost as long as Game of Thrones. Thanks for uploading this.

I watch Oshin while in elementary school.
I think Oshin is our 1st exposure to foreign drama we watch back then, other than some american love soap opera. It gives us a glimpse to Japan rich culture, realistic life drama heavy in everyday hardship n moral values.
90's the most waited loved one drama in my country Indonesia, and this sound bring me back to the time. even in 2021, just hear the sound still makes me cry.

One of the TV shows that my self & my mother loved most. Oshin's courage, strength, love, patience, tolerance & kindness are unbelievable. She's a true character who lived in Meiji Period in Japan I guess. (Correct me if I'm wrong) She never complained about her unfortunate situations & always faced them with a smile. She has never relied on anyone's support but is lucky enough to get all the necessary aid whenever she needed them due to her pleasant ways. No doubt she's a charming woman with a joyful soul. There is a lot to learn from her life story & I admire her qualities so much. Sending love from Sri Lanka as a true fan of her life.❤️💐😊

Long time back when I watched another J masterpiece Suzuran , My mother told me when she was young they watched a drama called Oshin and it was my mother's favourite. After the end of Suzuran Sri lankan national television re broadcasted Oshin. Me and my mother was so happy and we watched oshin together. Both of us cried with oshin. Sometimes we couldn't stop our tears because drama is too emotional. Even now when I hear this music I start to cry. We still love Oshin and she is in our hearts ♥️

I remember i was maybe 5 or 6 years old when they played this series in Indonesia, Oshin is hugely popular and very well known among Indonesians. I even get a chance to meet Ayako, who play little Oshin, in person back in 95. So many fond memories.
