School: keep your phone it will be confiscated if ur caught using it during lessons Also school: You may use your PLD to _“take notes”_ *That one guy who hacked his PLD: 🎮💬🎉*
hello i am your kopitiam psychologist a lot of these "back in my time" comments are not to imply that these kids should revert back to the 90's or bring back the old time rules. most of these comments are really just saying " eh you all young kids are very lucky , you dont know how good you have it , dont spoil your own market " but of course most of us 80's kids are emotionally stunted thats why we cannot express ourselves properly
I finished high school back when Facebook just started and my school already had a ban on phones but admin trusted us enough that they didn't require us to put it into our lockers. Instead teachers had the power to confiscate a phone on the spot if the phone rang out loud in the classroom/library or if a student was caught using it during class/in the library. These days some are so addicted to their devices that they will even try to hide bluetooth ear buds behind their hair (girls especially) connected to their device sitting in the locker. I work in education and some of my senior colleagues have complained of interns coming in who are so glued to their phones instead of looking after the students.
I personally found this ruling surprising, as my alma matar already applied this rule long ago, it was like during my sec 2 which we had a metal locker to keep our phones in and we could not use it until the end of the day. This did make us use our PLDs (not encouraged to either) or actually play games or interact with each other. I think its a great rule and Im glad my school had this rule long ago, although it was of course annoying at times but im glad we had that.
Is good to get these kids off handphones from time to time. If not every family gathering they will just spend time looking at their phones . It's quite rude
It’s actually this BAD that u need the students to keep your phone in the locker.. seriously, u cant put away your phone during a 1hr or 2hr lessons?? It’s so bad that teachers cant confiscate your phone if you found using them during lesson?? This is babysitting but newer generation..
Got rule or no rule also the same. I was using my phone under my desk during my secondary school days all the time. I got caught afew times but the teacher didnt do much but only return it after class or tell me to keep. In college its different, i have my laptop and phone on the table xD.
What’s interesting is that adults are equally at fault too. It is so common to see a family of parents and their children, sitting at the same table, each looking into their handphone. Communication? Neh… think from an outsider, i can easily count the number of times or sentences they spoke to one another.
The school implementing the policy is one thing, whether the students follow the policy or not is another thing. It’s really not feasible to do checks everyday and sooner or later you will have students breaking the rules. Also, I spoke to a discipline master who’s my CCA teacher and she mentioned before that “Parents can make a case” for confiscated phones. Some parents don’t really want to have their kids phones confiscated because they feel it’s their personal property, which is valid too in my opinion. So really, mobile phone policies are much more complicated than you think.
Schools should teach students how to use their mobile phones. Dictionaries are there, books are there, digital newspapers are there. Tell students to read one article a day and share their thoughts in the class. We want to be advanced in the digital age but tell students to lock away their mobile devices. I say it again - most brainless people in the country are in school management.
Does the school really need to teach students how to use their phones? They are smart enough to figure it out themselves at home during their free time. Kids are not stupid. It's their lack of maturity and self-control that's not fully developed yet that causes the school to implement these no-phone rules.
Back in early 2010s till mid 2010s we never had this issue tho. Like i think many of us were not exactly addicted but we did find entertainment in other ways lol
hahaha, but even with lockers provided to put valuables in, most of use dont even utilise the use of the lockers. got my phone confiscated 2-3 times throughout my 4 years in secondary school xd
Even as a teen like you(which i highly doubt so), I really think that not using the phone really improves your overall mental health and physical health. It keeps you glued to it all the time, thus you cant really go out and reconnect with people/nature. Plus, would you really rather use your phone to play than play catching, soccer, during recess? Would you really rather use your phone to text rather than using it to ASK for hangouts? You really are the psycho one here.
Meh... My sch can use during recess n lunch... Dun need keep in locker dun need to power off... Just don't use it in class... U only can use it at designated areas
P5 have phone already? Can use phone in secondary school? My time, "boys and girls", my primary school time, phones are banned, even the most simplest nokia types!!! Secondary times, smart phones are a new thing in town, can use but i only get first smart phone when I'm 15!!!!

sounds more like an upbringing issue if ur kids cant put their phone away for the duration of the meal

We must support Oppa Iswaran during this difficult time
No Kids having a Handphone before Primary 5.

Do you think its annoying

There are PLDs for a reason
you really think that students dk there are dictionaries, book, news, etc on their phone?

Next thing: Ppl need to learn how to greet with energy already
quite an effective way of not allowing students to use their phones
so many "back in my day" comments... times are different, learn to change your mindset
what do you think they are trying to imply , when they say. "back in my day " ?

Not being able to use phone SUCKS. it is EXTREMELY bad for the health with the bad effects. To all the physchos here, shut up.
