Glad to know that on this try it worked and that it was a fluke! and it could be trouble afterwards so problem is not completely solved as you showed (thank you!).
I came to this video as my needle snapped and when I replaced it, I couldn’t get my machine to pick up the bottom stitch. Iv not really used it in about 3 years as I was convinced I needed someone to repair it. I watched this video and I realised that I had the needle in the wrong way. I’m so stupid but I wanted to thank you as I’m over the moon that I can use my sewing machine again. Thanx for the video xxx
I’m so please that I’ve found your channel, and thank you for this helpful video. I have just purchased a Lotus sp with exactly the same problem as yours, so I have ordered a new gear and am eagerly awaiting for your follow up video!
Glad you mentioned broken gears. I know about needle timing, but not the gears. Good to know as I have a Lotus SP. I'm curious about one thing. My Lotus SP looks like this one in coloring. There is also an orange color Lotus SP & TSP. Which year did that orange SP come out? I'd love to know.
Thank you for this video! I was able to purchase this machine and it seemed to be in good condition--it sews, but it does sound like it's laboring. Also, while it does seem to be able to sew a straight stitch, as the needle is coming out of the fabric, it appears to flick to the right. Thanks to your video, I was able to open up the machine on the bottom--but it doesn't appear that there is a problem with the gears down there. I also opened up the top and all appears unbroken. So I'm thinking that it might be the "timing?"
Do you have a video of oiling points, I expect top bottom an bottom side need to come off. There is a vid but very amateurish compared to yours, can’t see where he’s oiling for much of it. Is the electronic version much different?
Hello I just inherited my Moms Elna from 1957, but I don't have the cord. Help please I would like to know If you would have one, or where I can get one. It's an Elna Transforma. By the way I love to watch your channel, you're excellent!! Thank you
I have one of these lovely old Elna sewing machines. I keep getting bunching of fabric when sewing. I’m using correct size/type needle for cotton fabric and has been threaded correctly. I have also tried adjusting tension on front of machine. Sometimes the teeth from underneath look like they are pulling too harshly. Do you have any suggestions of how I could fix this? Thank you.
This may sound odd but try 'sewing' without any thread in the machine. If it still does it then it's unlikely to be any issue with threading or tension. If it does feed okay then double check threading and tensions.
These machines have a tension adjustment dial in the bobbin case too (lower tension for metallic and nylon threads as well as special seams). It is a very tiny disc with numbers on the lower left side of bobbin. You can adjust it with the small screwdriver that comes with the machine to number 1 in red color. Also try to use only bobbins designed for Elna machines. Singer or generic brands don't work with Elnas. Same when it comes to attachments (foot). I posted a link to a pic that shows the standard lower tension (below).
My machine picks up the bobbin thread - when i sew the stitches are not locking the bobbin thread is just laying across the bottom of the fabric and top thread forms a stitch but is just looping under the fabric have new needle and have re-threaded several times- this is my first elna its an Elna Lotus sp
Make sure you install a new, high quality needle first and try again. If that fails then it sounds like the hook timing may be out or the hook pinion drive gear may be broken. ruclips.net/video/ZoxxVepXr0k/видео.html
That's right, different machines have different needle orientations. This video is just demonstrating the general idea of drawing up the bobbin thread.
I don't think the gear is the problem. What you should have shown was whether or not the bobbin hook would pick up the thread loop from the needle! and why not!!! THAT is the problem you started with...

Very concise troubleshooting video and nice clear video footage. Thank you very much. You helped me a lot by sharing this information.

Thank you for this information, you are very easy to follow, and I think I have discovered what the problem is.

Yes that is a common fault and don't feel stupid as it's an easy mistake to make. Thanks.
@@InStitches Do you have any other videos re this Elna Lotus tSP? Thank you very much....

EXCELLENT tutorial. Having exact same issue with Elna 9000
Me too! I just got the elna 9000 and I was so excited to use it. It was a gift from my aunt. Is it easy to fix ?

Thanks. It could be likely the zig zag mechanism needs lubricating or the zig zag timing is out.

It helped.

Sorry but I don't have one for that model. You could try sewing machine supply shops in the US. Thanks for the kind comment.
Thank you very helpful 👍

Great.. Thank you, very useful - at least I now know where to look !!! 😉👌

Thanks it has a new needle- took bottom off and the gears are not broken- guess will have to figure out the timing
THANK GOD A MAN CAN EXPLAIN IT LIKE A PRO...EVERY WOMAN IVE LISTEN TOO CANT GET TO THE POINT...39 MIN VIDEO FOR A 1 MIN TOPIC. THANK YOU, SIR.
I thought that the flat part of the needle shank on my 1924 Singer electric sewing machine was supposed to be facing the retainer knob.
That's right, different machines have different needle orientations. This video is just demonstrating the general idea of drawing up the bobbin thread.
Is the hook pinion gear on the Lotus interchangeable with the Elna model SU
The gears are not interchangeable between models.
merci
