Hi everyone! I am sharing this video by @lrn2diy for those of you who are interested in fixing the timing in your machine yourself 👉🏾ruclips.net/video/fzhR6PNlI4E/видео.html The timing on my machine isn’t off, so I didn’t make this video to show how to fix it, but I don’t mind sharing resources that may help.
I grew up watching my grandmother and mother sew and I literally can’t even start threading the needle on a sewing machine! Lol! But I’ve always wondered how the bottom and top thread “met” and made a stitch and no one has ever been able to explain it to make sense to me until THIS video! 40 years this has been the 8th wonder of the world to me. Lol!!! Now you have made me excited to learn to thread this antique sewing machine and learn to sew!! Thanks for sharing your knowledge - and for taking your machine apart! Lol!! You’re awesome!!

Girl you just saved me so much time. I’ve been struggling with threading it and watching so many videos and after an hour, still couldn’t figure out what was going on. 5 minutes of your video and I’m good to go!
I have been staring at my machine for an hour, in tears, on the verge of throwing it away because I was so frustrated with my bobbin thread. I went to the Brother website, I googled, I RUclipsd. Couldn’t fix it. Then I found you and this video and 4 minutes in, my machine is working 🙌🏼🙌🏼 THANK YOU!!
You are a god send! Been trying to figure out for awhile why my mother's sewing machine wasn't catching the bobbin and you demonstrating with the wheel coming around and the hook catching the needle's thread helped more than any I've seen thus far.
Wasn’t necessarily the same issues but watching up close precise timing was what helped me manually set it back right I had it off by one click. No one had done a close up video of the exact drop and rise. Thank you so much!!
This is the best suggestion for brother sewing machine bobbin threading. Good job. Concise and explanatory. Love it. Finally a good suggestion for this issue.

@@TheJudeJane hi! Actually, I did mention--quickly-- that I ”pretty much” stripped my Janome sewing machine. I talk about it more in a previous video. 😊
First must say I very much like your videos. The camera work, narration and instructions are excellent. Hoping you make many more of your wonderful videos for us so we can be happy with our sewing machines of any brand. A feature I especially like about brother sewing machines is the "quick set bobbin" which allows to begin sewing without drawing up the bobbin thread when the thread is passed through the quick set groove and cut at the end. Page 21 of the manual explains about using the quick set bobbin feature and also about not using the quick set feature to draw up the bobbin thread as you explained as well for times when a long bobbin tail (with a long upper thread tail) is needed for sewing darts or making gathers.
Thanks for the excellent video. Being a 10 year parachute rigger my sewing is more related to heavy sewing but it's nice to know how to keep up with the newer machines. Keep up on these very educational videos
Nope. It helped but my thread is getting stuck in the bobbin case! So when I’m done sewing I can’t pull the material out from under the needle foot. I open my bobbin case and the needle thread is all caught up in there. There is a piece of loose thread too!
Hi everyone! My latest video was meant to be uploaded on the first Saturday of this month; however, I became sick last week and lost my voice for a few days. I am really sorry about the late upload. I am currently editing and I hope to have this video up this week. Thanks, guys, for tuning in to see my videos! I appreciate you. Hope to sew with you soon!
So i’m having a timing issue and i took mine apart and the needle and the hook aren’t meeting at the same time. how do i fix that so they’re synchronized?
Thank you SOOOO much for this video! I just purchased my machine 2 days ago and today during some sewing, I noticed my lower thread wasn't catching. I was so frustrated I was nearly in tears, I thought I had broken the machine. I found this video and I was able to fix the problem. Again, thank you so much, you are SO appreciated ❤
Lynn M you’re welcome! You may find this helpful...I am uploading a beginner sewing series 😊. Here is the intro video ruclips.net/video/tyPwQGGr8NE/видео.html
I had the same problem with my Brother PE770, I did all these tweaks which are very well explained. My problem was an ever so slightly bent needle, carefully bent it straight and it grabbed the first time and im back in business.
Thank you! Personally, I would have my machine serviced if my timing belt needed repair. There are others who do it themselves. I linked a video with a repair demo in the description box.
Thank you!!! I couldn't find instructions that actually explained what was happening during the 'needle picking up' bit, this helped massively - I was just pulling the thread at the wrong time :)
I was doing the same I think! Pulling it when it had scooped up the bobbin thread but before it had slipped off the hook. Seeing what is going on inside is so so helpful! (It honestly seemed like magic before lol)
I have a Brother LX3817 and I have a problem with it that I can't find anyone else talking about anywhere online, RUclips, or anywhere else. I figured out that it's hard to catch the bobbin if you cut it to short with the cutter. So that's not my issue. My problem is that the bobbin thread doesn't seem to settle into the right position, once it does get caught by the needle. The needle catches the bobbin thread fine, but when I start to sew, the bobbin jams. I put it in, facing the right way. The thing is, I don't know anything about sewing machines because this is the first one I ever used since middle school. I see in this video, that when you caught the lower thread, it settled across the top left side of the bobbin, just like it does in my machine. And I see that it appears to be in that position in other brands of machines, as well in other people's videos when they're ready to sew. I wasn't sure if the bobbin thread was supposed to settle into that position until I saw in this video that it is. But on my machine, I've been having to use a dental pick and a pair of pliers to move the lower thread from the top of the bobbin, down to onto the right side of it. (I could probably use tweezers, but I don't have any.) If I don't do it, the machine jams. It's very difficult and annoying and I dread having to change thread colors because it takes forever and if I don't do it just right, then the lower tension is to loose. But if I do it right, the machine works fine. Does anyone else have this problem? Do you understand what I'm talking about? I hope my explanation isn't to confusing.
Hi! What’s happening with your bobbin is defiantly interesting. I actually just recorded a Q&A session with a certified sewing technician and we talked about issues with the bobbin and bobbin thread. We used my Brother LX3817 as an example. I hope the information there will be helpful to you. Be on the look out for that upload. Of course, there are situations that a professional may need to take a look at the machine. I would love for you to keep me updated about this issue, and I will definitely share any info I receive.
@@Sewintoitlessons Thanks for responding. What would really help me is if you would make a video where you show what the bobbin does after you load it and begin to sew. I want to see where the bobbin thread is supposed to go, once you've picked it up with the needle and are ready to sew, and then as you start to sew. I'm still not sure if the thread is supposed to sit on top of the bobbin, or wind itself around it. I know that as you're sewing, the thread goes up over the top of the bobbin and winds down around it. I'm just not sure what position it's supposed to start in. I'd like to see a video where you leave the cover off as you pick up the lower thread and begin to sew a few stitches. Point out where the bottom thread is before you start sewing and how it moves as you go along. You'd probably have to use a small piece of fabric that won't cover up the bobbin area, so it might be difficult to do. I'd really appreciate this because no one else has ever done it. I'm sure that whatever the issue is with my machine, it's probably something very simple that someone who knows what they're doing could fix in five minutes with a screw driver. But I don't trust the local sewing and vacuum guy in my area because I thought he was kind of rude when I had taken a vacuum to him and would probably charge me to much money.
Thank You will check this out. My top thread keeps coming out of the needle immediately when I try to see.🙁. This is first time using. So frustrated.🙄 Will tune in again.🤗
Perfect video! I used another video explaining how to rotate the Bobbin without moving the needle but couldn’t quite get how it was timed, this video was the missing part to a moths work of trial and error ! 😩 I cried when it started working!
my mom always told me two heads are better than one thank you so much for this video god bless you and your famil and please stay safe once again thanks very much
Thank you for this video. I am a beginner with this machine style and don’t have the users manual. Your video helped me troubleshoot and get my bobbin thread up. (I didn’t know to turn the knob towards me to get the thread to catch)
Joanna Santucci Google brand name of your machine and model # and get yourself a manual. Your manual will answer a ton of questions; it is a Bible for your sewing machine!!😊❤️(Many manuals are in PDF form and FREE!!!).
I've been asking other U2bers if the bobbin, when coming over the top, should be to the right or the left, and getting no answers. Derp, counter/clockwise! Thank you for defining the obvious. I just couldn't find the right words. LOL
You're an absolute lifesaver! Secondhand embroidery machine was driving me nuts!!! And now I don't feel like a complete idiot for buying such an expensive thing secondhand :D :D :D \o/ Woo!
Thank you so much! What a great demonstration on how the timing works so I could look at mine and determined the needle I had just put in was too short so wasn't catching. Must have been an old needle from my old machine. You saved me a lot of headaches and an inevitable repair free. Great video!
I had the same issue, but I found that all I needed to do was change the needle. I was using a cheaper needle I found on Amazon, which broke with just the simplest tension on it. When I changed to a known brand, it picked up the bobbin thread just fine.
You are my hero! Threading it through that side groove and cutting it did the trick. I am so brand new to sewing I would never have figured that out LOL Thank you thank you thank you

Im still having trouble. Idk what I’m doing wrong :(
Same 😕
Same
Thank You will check this out. My top thread keeps coming out of the needle immediately when I try to see.🙁. This is first time using. So frustrated.🙄 Will tune in again.🤗
Me to I'm still having the same problem with the thread and bobbin and then I took it a part and find no bobbin catcher on it so what do I do now
Perfect video! I used another video explaining how to rotate the Bobbin without moving the needle but couldn’t quite get how it was timed, this video was the missing part to a moths work of trial and error ! 😩 I cried when it started working!
Alethable I'm glad you were able to resolve the problem 😊.
Thank you so much for the tips. I have tried everything I could think of to get that bobbin thread picked up!!!
my mom always told me two heads are better than one thank you so much for this video god bless you and your famil and please stay safe once again thanks very much
Thank you! God bless.
I didn't think that I would be so captivated on how the threading work. :)
Such a beautiful and competent woman. You just saved my life kid.
Merlin Falcon thank you! I’m glad I was able to help.

Thanks for making this video. It really helped me figure out what was going wrong with the bobbin today 👍.
ThriftyGirlLoves, I'm glad this helped!
THANK YOU, for a thorough explanation!!!!! Brilliant!
I've been asking other U2bers if the bobbin, when coming over the top, should be to the right or the left, and getting no answers. Derp, counter/clockwise! Thank you for defining the obvious. I just couldn't find the right words. LOL
Thank you so much - I was ready to throw my machine out the window in frustration! The long thread method worked for me.
I’m glad this helped!
You're an absolute lifesaver! Secondhand embroidery machine was driving me nuts!!! And now I don't feel like a complete idiot for buying such an expensive thing secondhand :D :D :D \o/ Woo!
This video is actually super helpful. I got the threads to connect finally
You are so awesome!!!! You just helped me so much 🥰 Unfortunately I think I will need to have mine looked at.
This video is a God sent,
Thank you so very much.
I’m glad this helped!
I spent an hours trying to figure it out with out a video and this video just helped me out thank you soooooooooooo much❤❤❤❤

Thanks as that explains a lot to me! Newbie here!
You are my hero! Threading it through that side groove and cutting it did the trick. I am so brand new to sewing I would never have figured that out LOL Thank you thank you thank you
