I coded for 3 years determined to make a career out of it. I eventually went into iOS development. I was able to get an app on the App Store but unfortunately it didn’t do so hot. I got disillusioned and my day job kept me busy so I didn’t code for awhile. But recently I reevaluated my path in coding and decided to go back and learn web development. To anyone out there reading this I would say pursue your passion and never give up. Work hard and make it happen!

(Coming from someone who's a few credits away from having their computer science degree.)
Studying things like history and certain sciences you can just study and study, memorize to learn the material.
Things like math and more harder sciences and engineering, including software engineering (programming, oops, algorithms) are best learned by repetition and doing. Study tactics in calculus vs us history are sooo different. The best way to learn programming, for anyone who's new is to just practice. Code all the time. Even if it's little things. It'll cement the basics. You don't have to jump right into oops, algorithms. Software engineering, web development, programming in general is a constant learning process untill the day you retire. So dont get upset when you don't know everything at the beginning. No one does. To end this off, I've learned way more from udemy and on my own then I have in school.

Just saw this video and I am excited to start from your 1st one ! I decided to change career aswell. I work in a warehouse (food related) and order food for thousands each month and make all kinds of paperwork/analazing stuff, etc - but the place is toxic and it is not a good one. Making 550$ a month when I have bachelor in economics kinda sucks. 1 month ago decided to buy 1 udemy course, I am half way (JS atm and yea, it is overwhelming but I am trying to keep). After I finish it I plan on going and finishing Oden course, much more exercises. I do hope to be able to switch jobs by the end of 2022 or early 2023. Everything that makes 1000$ a month and above is perfect. Perks for being from east europe I guess, I can work for less :D
    PS: Keep coding !

Hey 👋 Michael. Thanks for sharing your self taught experience here. The advice on documenting one’s journey on RUclips is timely, as this is exactly what I’ve planned to do.
I also like the advice about doing your own projects when studying, rather than just copying exactly what a lot of these tutorials and coding resources provide.
Congratulations on securing your first job in tech! 🎉

    First thanks for your service!
The inspiration in this video is surprisingly more beneficial/helpful to me as a new developer than some of the veteran coders information. Thanks brother!

I'm still in my Odin journey. The amount of reading is insane but I guess maybe it's just me since I like video format better.

@@MichaelWhiteDev been an amazing ride. New challenges every day, and I work with angular, a cool framework. Couldn't ask for more, but I'm still new to this. I hope I can grow into a better front end dev. Deadlines are short but it is worth the trouble.

Dude we have the same exact path!!!
Everything from Myspace to HTML, CSS, Javascript to picking up the skill backup in 2020 at around the same time give or take a month.
I started off learning from basically literal tutorials doing HTML CSS, and learned some javascript threw RUclips courses the following year 2021 and built a landing page with a button that leads to a loading bar, with blinking words.
Then I brought 2 books Computer programming for absolute beginners , and Sam's teach yourself HTML, CSS, and Javascript. Last February...
I'm 172 pages deep into CS for absolute beginners, learning about iterations, arrays, variables, for loops, while loops, integers, binomial numbers, decimals, even inheritance, structured code, and or if else. statements,

I'm close to 2 years now and not getting any offers. In a few months I'll have to go back to some crap job to pay the bills and it will have been 2 years wasted. Consider yourself very lucky you were able to get in, many of us never catch that opportunity.

I am VERY lucky. I hate to hear your hunt isn't going your way but don't let the time go to waste, maybe some luck will go your way as well.
