    Here is the video from the first day I met Eric ruclips.net/video/eRUXo5lVZc4/видео.html
    Your voice can help end homelessness. If we do not fix the affordable housing crisis, homelessness will continue to get worse. Click here invisiblepeople.tv/getinvolved to tweet, email, call, or Facebook your federal and state legislators to tell them ending homelessness and creating more affordable housing is a priority to you.

      I agree, except we need to ask them to stop the illegals. The people comming here illegally are taking valuable jobs in restaurants, hotels, farms/barns, ect. The illegals essentially steal opportunities from homeless and exploit tax payers. If you care about your community then vote Trump 2020 🇺🇸

    • @InvisiblePeople
      @InvisiblePeople  5 лет назад +5

      First, coming to the US and asking for asylum is NOT illegal. Keep in mind many immigrants are fleeing war atrocities. Second, immigrants are NOT crossing the boarder renting luxury condos driving up housing costs. Third, immigrants pay billions more in taxes than is spent on immigration. Many start businesses and create jobs. It’s a myth that they take jobs. Most do jobs we won’t do.

    • @lennylane6463
      @lennylane6463 5 лет назад

      @@InvisiblePeople the majority of people crossing are disregarding the laws inplace that make assylum possible. This creates a ripple effect of lawlessness putting women and children at risk. SECOND, you made my point, illegals aren't competing with working class folks they compete with our poor for resources. THIRD, illegal workers do not pay taxes unless they steal identities as part of the ripple effect i mentioned above. I also disagree that there are available jobs for homeless except they just don't want to do them? So illegal workers want them? Makes no sense.

    I lived in SF and I walked 3 miles a day round trip to/from work and interacted with countless homeless people. I can tell you people like Eric are the exception. Many suffer from mental illness and almost all are addicted to drugs. If you give them money you are doing more harm than good. Food and other help is great.

    The thing everyone has to realize is that there is a SMALL window of time to get out of homelessness. Once someone can tell or strongly suspect you're homeless, you're done. And you WILL be outed. I know because I've been homeless for years now and you can see it on my face. Homeless wrinkles are different than regular wrinkles. The prejudice kicks in, "oh he's gotta be a druggie or crazy to have been homeless", and your particular situation makes no difference. So what do I do every day? I buy a lottery ticket, say my prayers and kiss the stray cat I feed.

      Can't you hitch hike to another place? I'm sorry, I wish there was a solution.. I said to my mom that when I have my own place, I'll invite 1 homeless person over and give him food and a clean shower with fresh new clothes and i'll even help them make a resume and use a mini phone to call jobs and stuff. As for jobs, well if they have a record or something maybe they can find one in a warehouse, a factory, janitor? OR could make own products like clothes! Yeah! Like.. hm.... interesting.. I might make a sweat shop for homeless people, minus the gruesome environment and abuse but a place where people with records, are homeless, anddd are crazy can have a job making things , the crazies can make art and sell it, the regulars can make sweaters or something.. and the prison people well, they can maybe be security guards! IDK, just my ideas. I wish I was rich so I could help out like my idea haha. Prayers to you

      Calista V.B-Peart , I think the days of hitch-hiking are over. Right now, I'm too tired to deal with a new set of cops busting my balls. The ones around me now, kinda leave me alone- at least until some busy body complains about my existence. Then the cops change their demeanor towards me quick. I don't know how to get out of this, honestly. But thanks for your concern.

    During the 1930s the US Federal Government ran camps providing safety and very basic needs for the homeless during the Great Depression. The people entering the camp were required to follow various rules ,regulations and work in some capacity which allowed them to improve their situation . I do not know what the specifics are, of how these camps actually functioned but I understand that they were successful. It seems that large city government officials should have access to that information. Perhaps that format could help people today??? If it worked once maybe it could work again.

      And in the 1940s and 50s, they started regulating the rents and constructing thousands of affordable homes and public housing units. Only in the 1980s when funding was slashed for public housing and rent control laws were lifted did homelessness start increasing again.

    When you realise the complexities of a human being ...the level of importance ,and the very fact they belong to the human species surely that gives them a right for respect.
    We all know how special we should be as a individual...yet people in high status positions don’t give a damn anymore about theses people it’s a disgrace .
    How have we arrived at this...letting people with feelings,hopes ,aspiration,needs ,and wants be subjected to living outside like a barn animal.

Anything and everything, I told them If I did not make any money I would be sleeping on the street tonight. First time I ever seen a VR video. I do not have a VR headset, no expectations of ever wearing one, but I noticed the camera was moving around. I could not figure out what was going on, lol. Then I saw it was a VR video.
    6 years homeless is a long time. When I was young I hoboed around. California, Oregon and Washington. I never slept on the sidewalks, hitch hiked, rode freight trains, stayed away from big cities for the most part, unless I had money for a room. There were shelters back then where you could get a meal. Salvation Army was good for that. But I never would spend the night. I would find a secluded spot and sleep out in my bed roll. I never panhandled or begged for money. I was too ashamed to do that. I did find odd jobs, day labor offices were around. The best living I made was farm labor. Eastern Washington picking apples was utopia! I had a cabin with a wood stove and electric range. Had a cinderblock outhouse with toilet and shower. I made out alright picking apples. Sure beats sleeping on city streets.

    • @duffysullivan2794
      @duffysullivan2794 5 лет назад

      @@Inf7cted Well, if you are sleeping on the sidewalk with no real options but begging, I would get out of town. I lived in downtown Portland for a time. But I had enough money for a room in a cheap hotel. I worked out of day labor, taking whatever job was offered. I remember setting up a carnival, putting up the amusement rides. I picked pears in Medford Oregon and that is when I heard about apple picking in eastern Washington. You can make money doing farm labor, but there is a catch... you have to get up every morning and go to work every day. Generally I was paid piece work, not hourly. That means you have to produce, or not make much money. We would fill bins of fruit. Bins were big wooden boxes that took a tractor to move. Fill one of those and you made $10. My goal was to fill 8 bins a day, 4 in the morning and 4 in the afternoon. $80 a day was good money for me. This was in the late 1970s.

    I'm Disabled, a Veteran, and have been homeless for two years. I'm not a drug addict, just lost my housing two years ago when the Apartment Complex I was living at was sold to a buyer in Toronto, who promptly notified the tenants living with Section 8 or VASH assistance was given the option to move out or pay full market value rent. I found while looking for a place to move to, that most low income housing was eliminated in this same fashion by greedy investors.
    I bought an old van on payments and was forced to start living in it. I did so for a year and was offered a tiny fiberglass trailer on payments. I found that the person I bought it from had mislead me on a clear title, and have had difficulty getting it registered and legal to tow. I have been stranded at a Recreation Area, above Kingman Arizona for seven months now trying to get repairs done to my van. It is no longer safe to drive, and definitely not suitable to tow my trailer. It has been a living hell, upto 128 degrees at times this summer, now dealing with freezing cold at night and heavy winds. Every time I try to get some repairs made, something comes up. I bought a used generator which failed in a couple weeks, had to buy another one, then my emotional support dog Archie was badly bitten and required veterinary care, my air conditioning compressor failed in my Van, I cut my knuckle to the bone and ligaments on some glass discarding some trash which resulted in an Emergency Room Visit. I have been trying to get help, and have not much success. I was accepted for Rapid Rehousing through the Catholic Charities, but have searched all over Mohave County but found I cannot afford an apartment on my disability income. I am now in a panic as I was notified by the Catholic Charities Caseworker handling my information, had their computer stolen and now my personal information has been compromised. I am on a waiting list for Section 8, basically started over. I did not choose to be in this homeless situation, and have been doing my best to deal with everything I have experienced the past 2 years. I had to literally give everything I owned away when I lost my apartment EVERYTHING!, I did try and keep my many tools, but those to were lost by a "friend" who was going but keep them until I get settled, but would never respond to my calls or texts. I am absolutely sick of my life. I don't live anymore, I merely exist, and it's not much of an existence. I have not showered in nearly 8 months, and haven't bathed in over two years since losing my apartment. I have reached out to every VA organization or service center for help, but am ineligible. I served 6 years in The Air National Guard, and was honorably discharged, but still don't meet the requirements as I was on active duty for well over a year with Avionics Technical School, and was activated during Desert Storm, but could not deploy with my unit, as I was a 3 level technician straight out of school. I have no family for support, no friends, only a few people I have met while being homeless. I have had a fellow vet brings some water bottles and food items several months back, but I don't see how I can ever get out of my situation as my limited income doesn't suffice...

      Just had a thought, what do I know but here goes. Remember how you could sponsor a child oversea's through care. What if you could sponsor a homeless person the same way, a few dollars a week or month. You get updates by e-mail showing the persons progress with pictures. You get enough sponsors, you can allocate so many per homeless person. It would have to be run by someone like you Mark or a collective who has a heart for helping the homeless, not the government cause they'll screw it up. Just throwing that out there, I don't know, this homeless epidemic is really sad.

    It's ironically EXPENSIVE to be poor in America. You are subject to constant fines by police, interest on any debt you have that you can't pay, inability to invest in bulk purchase opportunities (like Costco), public transportation costs. It's definitely a tough cycle. Yes, you CAN break out of it, but never underestimate what it takes to do that. It takes 10x the effort to break out of a bad situation that it takes for you to sustain your existence when you're not in a hole.

He should pay for a cheap monthly fee for gym access to showers, get clean clothes at thrift stores, use a homeless advocate office as his address, then apply everywhere, get a job, get a room, and get out of homelessness. Then plan carefully to move out of SF where rents are more reasonable against your income.

However, on my last visit the whole downtown area was swamped with homeless ppl. They sat in front of exclusive shops, and five star hotels holding signs, and calling out to pedestrians passing them by on the sidewalk. It was it was unbelievable❗ I also got scammed out of $20.00‼️ I got off lucky, because this dude could have grabbed my whole handbag and taken off. I looked like the typical tourist❗‼️😎🇺🇸

    Homeless and hungry , I understand that some are just down on luck , but what looks like no one want to admit is that way more than a few , just want money for the next bottle of vodka and or drugs , any drug would do . Last Saturday driving gone from work mid afternoon , someone two cars ahead of me gave a big Apple to the guy at Octavia x Page to a guy with a sign just like this guy , by the time I pass by him , the Aplly was thrown to the center divider and rolling down the center divider , I had my window open and said ,,, well down man ,,, he said fuck you !!!
    The area I’m talking about is about 2 blocks from this area for those who are familiar with this location , it just made me mad and really pissed
