Makoto never cared about being special but hajime was more emotional about it,it was the crux of his character arc,not to mention that compared to makoto he has more rebellious,somewhat masculine way of how presents himself to others,but that's a bit more obvious in the japanese version and the DR3 anime. Also if you see how he reacts to the rest of his classmates in the freetime events he seems like he doesn't want to get too close to them whereas mokoto was more outgoing so there's also that. Overall,I really enjoyed hearing your thoughts on the DR2 cast. Personally I find this cast to better than the DR1 cast for the most part. Whereas the Dr1 cast was about kids who wanted to prepare to take on the world,this game focuses on the outcasts,on the idea that even if society considers you a failure,you can still find your own future,there are endless possibilities for that.
I definitely understand your point on Hajime- I’d say he was angsty also because he’s in a position where he had no idea what his talent was (at least while he assumed he had one and forgot it). I think Makoto always knew he was the Lucky Student, so was able to better reconcile his average-ness and not feel unremarkable for it. I can’t wait to see more of Hajime’s character in the anime! I feel like I got to *know* Makoto a bit by watching THH, rather than playing.
Right! He’s one of the better characters, and not because of wild depth or complex writing. He’s just very much a “character” character- you can tell the writers had fun with him, in concept and in dialogue. Sometimes a fun static character like him really stands out!

Akane people see her as underrated it I di not get it to me she is a boring annoying character that was a wasted potential and was essentially the danganronpa equivalent of scrappy doo, if she received reprocussions she's be better but no the only mild consequence she received was almost killing nekomaru but he got brought back and even when he died for real it felt like she did not give two shits I personally am pissed off she did not die in chapter 3 instead of Ibuki at least with characters like hiyoko and teruteru they are memorably bad and made me feel something and I did out up with them for the entire game unlike akane they should have honestly killed her in chapter 3 15. Teruteru he is an annoying Perverted and creepy character, and ha suncomfortbale parallels to the real world such as how he drugged hajime but his break down and sympathetic motive for killing makes him less bad as well as the fact he does in chapter 1 14. Hiyoko a bully that gets on my nerves fast I get it was a defense mechanism but when your a bully to everyone it's hard to earn sympathy from me I actually rooted for her being killed off in chapter 3 where ironically they tried to make her more sympathetic 13. Mahirhu she is remembered ironically for being forgettable character and tenko before tenko without any redeemibility not helped by the fact she dies in chapter 2 before she can get any development but her free time events save her from being below akane as I found it cute that she has a crush on hajime. 12. Kazuchi though he pervs on Sonia and is cowardly and whinnes like a bitch he was a nice guy and supported the team and his reactions to wierd stuff happening were pretty funny. 11. Mikan her free time events added more depth to her making her more disturbing due to the implications of several types of abuse adding more depth to her and her reason for being a nurse was interesting but the poor execution of chapter 3 made me dislike her 10. Peko not a bad character has a good design, cool talent and neat personality but she's more memorable for serving fuyuhikos arc rather than being her own character though the little details of her personality were nice such as how kind she was and always tried to be friendly to others 9. Thicc-yakuya serves a good character and a surprisingly selfless character despite how little we knew him and is a great fake out and redherring though he is only memorable for being a mystery. 8. Hajime the twist with him and izuru was cool and him being the mastermind was good and I like how sassy he is compared to other protagonists as well as the memes surrounding him specifically the octagon and elevator ones 7. Fuyuhiko overrated character imo but not a bad character he serves a good arc and becomes open after pekoa death but I feel he doesn't do much afterwards though I still like him. 6. Ibuki she was a funny and hyperactive character to watch her actions always put a smile on my face and I like how she's optimistic and loks for the best in everyone despite this I liked how she is a mature character and I liked how she helped hajime with his identity crisis in her free time events which made her surprisingly endearing and sweet I'm angry she wasn't a survivor it felt like she was killed off with little respect in chapter 3 other than they wanted a double murder 3. Nekomaru the most underrated character and it is a crime that he is underrated he's a Chad who looks for the best in everyone like Ibuki and he is a selfless guy giving his own life up twice to save everyone and despite losing his body and becoming a robot his doesn't care and doesn't mind being one for the rest of his life, and his free time events where we learn of his heart condition and low life expectancy was heartbreaking and his reason for being the ultimate team manager leading to his life philosophy was inspiring and made me look at my life I also like the little details like how he went to monokuma taichi despite knowing it would I'll go when he was locked inside the funhouse and how he smiles event when facing death because he knows it will save everyone 2. Nagito komeada a character who is insane crazy which is both enjoyable and hilarious but is surprisingly sympathetic and at least wants to do good, he is a character you love to hate and the best antagonist in the series though to be fair that isn't much competition when your competing with characters in the anime junko and tsumugi. Though his free time events give an interesting look into his character and his actions I honestly found morbidly funny and he's so wild it's hard not to love him he is deserving of being one of the most iconic characters in the series 1. Gundham a badass edgelord who is really funny to listen to he also had the power of hamsters need I say more and everything he says is epic Id love if he narrated my life, despite him being flamboyant he is one of the smarter students and helps a lot with the cases culminating in chapter 4 where he creates a near flawless killing scheme which I'd argue is the most intelligent murder scheme in the series using the funhouse and nekomarus stature ans a robot to perform a great murder and it would have worked but a factor out his control stopped his plan, he's also surprisingly relatable to me as I have the headcannon gundham is autistic and being autistic myself I saw a lot of my own traits in gundham which made it satisfying to me when he became close friends with Sonia and hajime if you do his free time events and it was disheartening to hear his home life and reason for embracing his supervillain persona which I personally related to and his reason for killing were admirable and inspiring and was the only character death I had to take a moment to process and genuinely made me cry. Not only my favourite character in this game or the series but one of my favourite characters in any media.
