1st time I seen it made w/o mayo, other than when my mom used to make it. She never used mayo either. I tried someone recipe that required mayo. (And mustard ofc) and I promised myself I would never do that again. Lol
I've always been more of a fan of using jumbo lump when it comes to my crabs. Tend to use Blues as that's what I'm used to and it's what's caught in my area. Seems to be a brother recipe of the crab cakes I make, since I tend to make them smaller too. Big difference is I usually don't pad mine out with a breading and binder. Still, good way to have mini cakes. Oh, actually since it's winter, I have an idea for a recipe you can show: seafood chili, which can be done with crab and shrimp meat. It's a pretty neat recipe too.
