Nice review, I would say that although this album isn't my favorite. I still enjoyed it, Bless 'em with the blade, wake up the wicked, and thunderpreist, are definitely my favorite tracks for this album. Probably my biggest complaint about the new album is that it's shorter than I was expecting. Most of the tracks only average about 3 minutes in length. The first track wasn't even a full 3 minutes, which was fairly disappointing for me because it's such a great song. I do agree with you about the song 1589, it tells an interesting story. But it just didn't quite feel like a Powerwolf song, and it really didn't do anything for me. The final track Vargamor, almost put me to sleep honestly. I could tell pretty quickly that this would be a song that I would probably be skipping each time it came on. Overall I enjoyed Wake up the Wicked about the same as Call of the Wild. They didn't exactly step outside their comfort zone with this album. But it was still pretty decent. I would say that my favorite Powerwolf album is still the Sacrament of Sin. It was the first Powerwolf album I bought, and also the album that made me fall in love with Powerwolf.
I think you nailed it with how short it was. Having let the album marinate a bit, It would have been nice to have a little more in that regard. Also, Sacrament Of Sin is my fav from them as well!
