"Khwarezm Empire? I've never heard of that."
Exactly. It was pretty much obliterated.

You do know a word that derives from it though. 'Algorithm'. It comes from the name of a mathematician/astronomer/geographer who came from the city of Khwarezm: Muhammad ibn Musa al-Khwarizmi. 'Algebra' also comes from the name of a book he wrote.

The Turkic peoples call their fermented donkey/mare's milk "kumis" (koo-miss) and the Mongols call it "ayrag" (eye-rug). It's basically just like a really, really off yogurt (also a Turkish word btw) that is made by taking raw, unpasteurised milk and fermenting it with both milk bacteria (lactobacillus and others) and yeast. In yogurt, you typically remove/don't add any yeast.

@@skyblue2289 I explicitly said that Turkic peoples (Kazakhs, Kyrgyz, Uzbeks, etc.) call it "kumis" and Mongols call it "ayrag"....

@@-LOTUSFLOWER- I was trying to spell it in a way that a native English speaker would pronounce it naturally. If I was trying to write in a universal way, I could have just written in IPA [ajraɣ], but then Connor wouldn't understand it.

Sorry for making another comment: The reason he is known as Genghis Khan in Europe and Chinggis Khan in Mongolian is that Europeans learned of the name a long time ago and most of them couldn't speak Mongolian, so they approximated what they heard. Meanwhile, Mongolian as a language has developed since the 1200's, so the modern Mongolian name of Chinggis Khan also doesn't sound like it would originally have.
Just like we call him "William" the Conqueror today, back then he would have probably been known as Willame in his version of French, whereas he would have been Guillaume in Modern French.

to the south, the Hymalayas, to the north, Siberia, and they live in mountains, surrounded by semi-deserts, Mongolia's winter is 5 °F to -22° F in average.

we call him Genghis Khan because Chingis Khan means just fierce or starn ruler, but when he conquered most of the land people started referring to him as Genghis Khan, or universal ruler
