- Britain is set to hand India more foreign aid just days after the emerging super power launched a rocket into space.
The Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office sent New Delhi £33.4 million in overseas aid in 2022/23.
The report also reveals that the amount of aid is set to rise by 70 percent to £57 million in 2024/25.
Dr David Bull speaks with head of campaigns at the Taxpayers' Alliance Eliot Keck about why taxpayer funds are spent this way.

1. India or Indian government don't approve receiving any kind of aid, even during disasters. So, ask your government where are these money going. Coz, Indian government don't receive any aid.

2. India’s poverty is not as horrendous as it was 20 years ago. No. of people who come out of poverty every year in india is greater than the entire population of UK. Significant improvements in lifestyle and middle class boom has made india a powerhouse of consumer economy.
3. UK has a higher homelessness, inflation and living crisis while india remains fully protected wrt energy security, food security, cost of living etc- all thanks to india’s robus nation first policies and its ability to be self reliant in many areas of production.
4. India has already surpassed UK in many many sectors of growth and development. India overall is a much bigger power than UK.
5. India has some problems to fix like low gdp per capita, hdi, health infra, pollution issues etc but it will gradually be fixed in the upcoming 1-2 decades .
6. UK shud rather ponder upon the horrendous legacy of its royal family and everything that happened under the crown. The fact that they looted the jewel(india) for 200 years and india still managed to surpass them today is a tight slap on those who still have the rosy colonial hangover.
This moral accountability is far more important than debating about whether we shud send 20million or 10 million pounds to india .

That is not "Aid" which is being sent from gov to gov but is actually an investment given to non-profit org to lobby for UK in India and also in some private businesses in India to get returns back to UK. Indian gov has stopped receiving aids from 2010-2011 itself.

Despite some significant economic achievements in the last few decades, we do realise and recognise that we still are an extremely poor country. Some of us take false pride in overtaking UK's economy and being the no. 5 now but the fact is that with the size of our population, it's a piece of cake. What matters is the gdp per capita and that tells us that we have miles, miles to go. So, we do understand that there're millions in our country who are living their lives in misery
But that's for us to fix. It's NOT your job. I as a citizen, and many millions of us like me, are committed to work very hard in our lives to be able to pay enough taxes to our government to lift those poor people out of poverty. And this WILL happen eventually. Sooner or later. We are capable of doing so and feel strongly that we do not require anyone's help in this process.
So, we sincerely thank you for your kind gesture but NO, we don't need your aid. Keep it and use it for your own development. Our government would anyday refuse to accept but your government gives this to the private NGOs in our country who accept it. Please ask your government to stop doing so. Thank you

The “aid” to India is provided to various charity organisations (NGOs) and non profits. Indian government doesn’t spend any aid money on space program because it doesn’t receive any aid money ffs. And besides, Indian government has said already that whatever aid Britain can provide from their foreign aid funds, is peanuts for us given the size of our economy and its annual growth rate.
