Hello Sandhya aunty. I loved learning this composition this year!!!:)
    1. Keeravani is the 21st meLakarta rAgam
    2.
-Simhendramadhyamam: pratimadhyamam to keeravANi; all other swaras are same; M2 results in gamakam differences in G2 compared to keeravANi
    - Bhairavi: has N2- all other swarams are the same; if we were to sing a phrase in one of these ragams:
eg.(PDPMDPMG,,){Valid in both!!!!!}- most audience would guess Bhairavi; though this is valid in both the ragams!!
    3. "alaimagaL kalaimagaL paNi[KEERVAANI]"!- charaNam 3rd line
    4.
    - Gowrimanohari: s r2 g2 m1 p d2 n3 S
    - SarasAngi: s r2 g3 m1 p d1 n3 S
    5. Sri Papanasam Sivan was a post trinity composer. Sri Sivan has composed many beautiful krithis, padams, and padavarnams.
    6. From what I've observed, KiraNAVaLi has keeravANi's arohanam. The avarohaNam is slightly different.
    avarohaNam= S p m1 g2 r3 s
My opinion is that KiraNAvaLI closely resembles Kharaharapriya in addition to keeravANi.

    🙏 Sandya garu,
    1) Keeravani is a 21st Melakarta Ragam.
    2) Simhendramadhyamam - has M2, one has to identify the Madyamam to distinguish between Keeravani and Simhendramadhyamam. The lower and higher octaves of both ragas are same. Though both the ragas have G2, Keeravani Raga has much stressed G2, whereas Simhendramadhyamam has more settled G2.
Gowri Manohari - has only one difference, i.e Dhaivatham. Keeravani has Suddha Dhaivatham. Gowri Manohari has Chatusruti Dhaivatham
    3) Keeravani comes in the 3rd line of Charanam - "Alaimagal Kalaimaghal Pani Keervaani"
    4) SRGM (from Keeravani) PDNS (from Shankaraabharanam) - Gowri Manohari, 23rd melakarta raga
SRGM (from Shankarabharanam) PDNS (from Keeravani) - Sarasaangi, 27th melakarta raga
    5) Papanasam Sivan (1890 - 1973) is not a pre-trinity, composed many devotional songs. He is called as the Tamil Tyagaraja.
    6) Kiranavali and Keeravani are the same. keeravani is called as Kiranavali in Muttuswami Dikshitar school of carnatic music.

Hi aunty, my attempt is below:
    1. Melakartha
    2. Kharaharapriya, as they share r2, G2, and M1, and Mayamalavagowla, as they share D1 and N3.
    3. It comes in the charanam
    4. Sarasangi; Shankarabharanam 1st half and Keeravani 2nd.
    5. He was post trinity. He composed varnams, kritis, padams, and even jhaavalis.
    6. No they are not the same. Kiranaavali is a janya of Keeravani.

Hello Sandhya Aunty, these are my answers to your quiz!:)-Divya Suri
    1. Keeravani is the 21st Melakarta Ragam
    2. Some ragas I think are similar to Keeravani are:
Simhendramadhyamam: Simhendramadhyamam is similar to Keeravani because it is the Pratimadhyama ragam or Keeravani, the only difference is that this ragam has a M2 instead of a M1.
Shanmukhapriya: Shanmukhapriya is also a ragam that is similar to Keeravani however it has a M2 instead of M1 and has N2 instead of N3.
Natabhairavi: Natabhairavi is similar to Keeravani because it has all of the same Swarasthanas except it has N2 instead of N3.
Kharaharapriya: Kharaharapriya is similar to Keeravani, it is different however because it has D2 instead of D1 and has N2 instead of N3.
Bhairavi: Bhairavi is a janya raga of Natabhairavi, and sounds very similar to Keeravani even though it is a Bhashanga ragam and has D2 a swaram that Natabhairavi does not have.
    3. The raga name Keeravani comes in the Charanam. The line is: Malayadhvajan MAthavame KAnchana MAlai pudalvi MahArAgni Alai Maghal Kalai Maghal PaNi (KirvANI)
    4. When you mix the SRGM of Keeravani and PDNS of Shankarabharanam you get Gaurimanohari. The Swarasthanas of Gaurimanohari are S R2 G2 M1 P D2 N3 S.
When you mix the SRGM or Shankarabharanam and the PDNS of the Keeravani, the ragam you get is Sarasangi. The Swarasthanas of Sarasangi are S R2 G3 M1 P D1 N3 S.
    5. Sri Papanasam Sivan was a post-Trimurti composer. He composed on all gods, and composed many Krithis in many ragas, and has composed over 3000 Krithis.
    6. Kiranavali is the same ragam as Keeravani, the only difference is the Kiranavali is the name for Keeravani in the Muthuswami Dikshitar school of music. Kiranavali is also a janya of the ragam Keeravani and has the same Arohanam as Keeravani. But its avarohanam is S P M1 G3 R2 S.

Namaste Ms. Sandhya, this is Indu. I really enjoyed listening to the kriti, Devi Neeye Thunai, sung and played on the violin by you. I have a liking for Keeravani as well! Here is my quiz response for Devi Neeye Thunai in the ragam Keeravani, in Adi talam, and Sri Papanaasam Sivan as the composer.
    1) Is Keeravani a Melaraaga or Janya raga?
Keeravani is the 21st Melakartha raga - in Veda Chakra.
    2) What are ragas that you think are similar to Keeravani? Why do you think so?
I think that the ragas Kharaharapriya, Sri, Abhogi, and Chandrakauns are quite alike to Keeravani because of their bhavam. I feel like they have a related emphasis and essence.
    3) The raga name comes in this composition, where?
The raga name, Keeravani, comes in the last line of the charanam, “...Alaimagal Kalaimagal Pani Keeravani…”
    4) What do I get if I mix half (srgm and pdns) of Keeravani and half of Sankarabharanam?
If you mix half of Keeravani (srgm) and half of Shankarabharanam (pdns), you would get Gourimanohari, the 23rd Melakartha raga - in Veda Chakra. The swarasthanas of Gourimanohari are Shadjam (S), Chatushruthi Rishabham (R2), Sadharana Gandharam (G2), Shuddha Madhyamam (M1), Panchamam (P), Chatushruthi Dhaivatham (D2), & Kakali Nishadham (N3).
    5) Was Sri Sivan a pre- trinity ( Trimurti ) composer? What kind of compositions has he composed?
No, Sri Papanaasam Sivan was not one of the three trimurtis of Karnataka Sangeetham. However, he has composed numerous devotional compositions in Tamil.
    6) Is Kiranavali the same as Keeravani?
It depends. In the Melakartha raga scheme we mainly view today, Kiranavali is different from Keeravani, as it is not a Melakartha raga and is a janya of Keeravani - 21st raga. However, in Sri Muthuswami Dikshitar’s school of music, Kiranavali was categorized as a parent raga equivalent to Keeravani in the Melakartha scheme. Thus, Kiranavali can be a parent raga too.
    Thank you Ms. Sandhya.

    Question 1.
Keeravani is a Melakarta Raga because it has all swaras in both arohanam and avarohanam. (21st melakarta)
    Question 2.
Natabhairavi: The only difference is N. Kiravani has N3 and Natabhairavi has N2
Simhendramadhyamam: The difference is Ma. Simhendramadhyamam is the prati madhyamam of Kiravani
    Question 3.
    In the charanam.
Line: Alai Magal Kalai Magal Pani Kirvani
    Question 4.
    Gowrimanohari
    Arohanam: S R2 G2 M1 P D2 N3 S
    Avarohanam: S N3 D2 P M1 G2 R2 S
    Question 5
    ?
    Question 6
Kiranavali is not the same as Kiravani because it is a janya ragam. Kiranavali has the same arohanam but different avarohanam.
