That description times 10 and that’s how i feel whenever i see katya. It’s just- she’s so insanely beautiful and hot and i just can’t. I literally forget to breath. I swear she’s gonna be the death of me
I think there is a big difference between being jokingly bitchy to someone as their equal (respecting them), and, being bitchy to someone, claiming it's a joke, from doing it from a place of (self-imposed) superiority. I think girls like Roxxxy, Ginger, and, Phi Phi were all the types of girls whose bitchiness stemmed from the insecurities and superiority complexes. Roxxxy's treatment of Jinxk wasn't lighthearted bitchiness where she viewed Jinxk as an equal, she really looked down on her (I think she was insecure). For Ginger - I think knew she what Katya is saying here - she knew she wasn't "hip" or "cool" the way girls like Adore and other successful girls have been hip and cool - so her attitude towards others (the younger girls) was shitty. Acid Betty is another one whose bitchiness didn't come off like she truly respected others, she had a serious ego and (in my opinion) a chip on her shoulder. But Violet had a shit attitude too - so I don't think bitchiness has anything to do with it. People are just seeing through the shticks some genuinely mean people hide behind and expect more of them

Stephanie Reynolds I do get what the OP is trying to say. Basically there's a difference between being a bitch, and being cruel, and some queens try to pass off the latter as the former.
People like Roxxxy, Ginger, and Acid Betty all said cruel things to and about others, but then tried to pass them off as jokes. Roxxxy was frustrated about Jinkx doing better than her, despite not looking as good in her eyes, and took out her frustrations on Jinkx to both feel better about herself, and also to throw Jinkx off her game. Ginger felt insecure about what she saw as favouritism for younger, skinner, prettier queens, and felt like she had to work harder simply due to her physical appearance. Acid Betty had a MASSIVE chip on her shoulder about being treated as an outcast, and as such decided to treat anyone conventionally pretty as inferior, and treated anyone else with an unusual look (e.g. Trixie) in the same way that she felt she had been treated by others in the community - sort of an "If I can't be accepted, no one can" attitude.
On the flip side, you have queens like Willam or Bianca who say things that could easily be taken as far more offensive than any of the queens above, but when they say it, everyone laughs and knows it is a joke. That is because Willam and Bianca are both very visibly secure in who they are, and they demonstrate through their actions that they are actually very loving and helpful people. Willam fought the producers behind the scenes for better treatment of ALL the queens on season 4, pushing for more health and safety considerations, proper respect for Latrice, who was often misnamed by producers, and pushing for a bigger food budget as well as provisions for vegetarian and vegan queens such as Sharon and Willam herself. Bianca helped a lot of queens on season 6 with the sewing challenges, especially Adore, and always stood up to defend queens that she felt were being unfairly criticised, such as Dela at the hands of Darienne. As well as that, both Willam and Bianca are willing to make fun of themselves and accept and learn from criticism, while queens like Roxxxy, Betty and Phi Phi tended to take any form of critique as a personal attack.
Tl, dr; the queens that can get away with being bitchy are those that can take it just as much as they dish it. If you can't stomach being criticised, but are the first to call someone else out for looking bad, don't be surprised when people don't like you.
@@BambiTrout Exactly. People don't like being gaslit (if they even realize that's what's happening) or guilt-tripping. The part that sticks out to me the most is how aggressively Ginger was trying to show Violet and Pearl towards the end of their season that she loves her, kept pushing for forgiveness from Pearl, etc. It's clear that Ginger had her insecurities (and that's ok, we can all be insecure from time to time) but she was kinda manipulative and toxic. She clearly felt threatened and she became kinda hateful and duplicitous. That's different than being bitchy.
@@BambiTrout Then Acid, Ginger and Roxxxy aren't loving people? Acid was the one who was closer to Cynthia when she had to tackle cancer. Also, it's clear as the sun that both Ginger and Roxxxy are two sweetheart. Was Roxxxy trying to get under Jynxk's skin to win? Yes, this doesn't prove how terrible of a person she is. This is even truer when you consider how the show is heavily edited and every Jynxk's mean comment was not shown.
People watching Drag Race react in a negative way when a queen is playing the nasty bitch card, and that's why queens like Phi Phi, Roxxxy, Courtney, Kennedy, Ginger or even Jasmine do that. It affects the votes in the end if they make it to the top 3, cos hey, most people seem to identify themselves with the person thats bullied and not the bully. But, when Violet was a bitchy brat at the beginnig, and even won The Shadiest Queen award on the DESPY awards challenge, nobody saw it as "aww, she's a drag queen, what's wrong with being bitchy? they do that", it was a negative thing for the other queens, even the most experienced ones (including Katya), that went even more shady and bitchy than her the rest of the competition. Changing that at some point played in favor for Violet at the end, and that's why she won. Plus, lets remember that she never was in the bottom 2 (even though being close a couple of times), she always looked fierce on the runway, did good in other challenges, won 3 of them and that final lipsync at the reunion fucking SLAYED.
Exactly I fucking love Katya but it's the truth.
I think it's the difference between being funny, shady bitchy, and actually straight up being a horrible person. Phi Phi and Roxxxy in particular were absolutely VILE to other queens in the competition, whereas people like Violet and Pearl were shady, but they never victimised and almost bullied other queens. Shady comments are funny and almost relatable, but I can understand why those queens lost votes because of their attitude.
I couldn't help but lose it when Katya called Ginger Ming "Danny Devito". I wasnt even looking at the screen when she said it and im like "Oh, Ginger" and then i looked and couldnt handle it because i knew exactly who she was speaking about.

I thought Ginger was funny, but just not as funny as the comedy queens from other seasons. She couldn't hold a candle to Bianca or Chi Chi or even Adore. Violet is not funny at all, but she showed growth and she's probably top 3 of the most visually arresting queens to be on Drag Race. So I get why people voted for her. Also, speaking as a 20-something, we're all kinda bitchy. So, pretty relatable.
