Thank you, most importantly she should be remembered as an abuse survivor. When you have a paralytic injury, and are in immense pain lying on the floor, and your first thought is “Thank God, I don’t have to go to the Olympics in 2 weeks.”, you have been so beaten down, perceived as so valueless, and having no rights, no life, it is heartbreaking. Through her interviews, she gained her voice, was finally allowed to “exist” beyond her production value. A gentle kind soul, once orphaned at the age of 5, to the voice of the millions of female athletes around the world, you Elena are not forgotten. ❤
She actually thought "Thank god I don´t have to go to the olympics" when she wake up at the hospital, not when she was lying on the floor. She said it in a written interview posted by the same person that posted this video, I read it there. Of course at that moment she didn´t know she was paralyzed forever. She said she wanted to rest and read a book, and she could achieve it, but at what price. It was emotional.
I just found out about Elena Mukhina last week. I'm not into gymnastics, but due to the recent Olympic games, her story came up as a suggested video. Ever since, I've been watching many of her videos during competition and after her injury, and what is the most heartbreaking for me is, how almost everyone went on with their lives, and left Elena on her own. I've read that her grandmother took care of her, but let's be real, the old lady couldn't take care of Elena the way she needed to, since she needed care, just like a newborn baby. She could only sit, if someone helped her to that position. In one of her interviews, when asked how she was doing (this interview was about 7 or 8 years after the injury), she said that it had been painful and with many issues, obviously. She said that the ones she considered her friends, left her, but that she had new friends that helped her. She only mentioned one gymnast that considered a real friend, the one that won the all around in the 1980's Olympics. Then later, after her grandmother died, another former gymnast took care of Elena. She needed professional help 24/7. That should've been provided by the government. That's the least they needed to do for her. She was hurt, trying to bring honor to the nation. Even after her injury, she could've lived a more decent life, if her so-called friends had stuck around and taken turns to help her. I don't think her grandmother was that lovely either, because in one of her interviews she said that she didn't have anyone to turn to for help. Even if you're raised without parents, if you have someone that really took care of you and showed you love, in this case, the grandmother, you don't go around looking depressed all the time, and saying that you haven't experienced love in this life. It breaks my heart that those who were Elena's teammates, have lived a comfortable life, have kids, etc. Their sacrifices during their youth paid off. But for Elena, everything was the opposite. I hope Elena Mukhina received the Lord Jesus as her Lord and Savior, so that one day she'll be enjoying everlasting life, full of love and where suffering will not exist anymore. Thank you for all the videos.
Thank you for all these lovely comments. I also learned about her story during Tokyo 2020 Olympics in 2021. Since then, I couldn’t forget her and also started searching for more information about her. Then I learned how to make simple videos for her. To my surprise that more and more people watched those videos and subscribed to this channel. Then I made more videos and also uploaded some photos of her. Moreover, I created those playlists which include videos from other RUclips channels. I also noticed that the number of viewers and subscribers have increased over 200 due to Paris 2024 Olympics. Thank you for your support.

They say she was orphaned but her father was a drunk who was imprisoned after her mother died in a house fire. After his release he would come around for money, since the USSR also took care of the athletes’ families, but he never did anything to help her out. I guess she was orphaned since her father was not much of a father.
I also learned about Elena Mukhina too after watching the gymnastics at this years Paris Olympics and therfore after I've watched many of her videos of her competing and I'm so glad to have subscribed to her channel. Rip Elena Mukhina beautiful angel ❤
Mukhina also was the victim of her coach’s ambitions. Injuries prematurely ended his gymnastics career, while his brother medaled in two Olympics. The pressure he no longer could physically place upon himself was disastrously redirected to his student.
The Pressure to Win. ..no thought of this young lady. It was her coach who wanted Fame... Taken a cast off and made to perform .. Dreadful. R.I.P 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉😢😢
Elena’s story is one of the most heartbreaking in the history of sports. She was abused used and then scapegoated. A lifetime of dedication to a sport that caused her living death to be honest. Instead of nurturing her amazing talent and cherishing her, her country broke her and her spirit. This is NOT sportsmanship or honor! The Olympic spirit is NOT about cruelly whipping an athlete into submission to obtain points for your government! This was the fatal flaw in the system that allowed such abuse and exploitation. She was nothing more than a product to her country! It’s a true horror story that was swept under the rug to protect those seeking glory. There’s NO glory or reverence in this kind of abuse! Elena was a treasure athletically and personally. She should have been respected and protected not broken and thrown away. Her talent and sacrifice will be remembered though. Those that know her story know who she was and will share her legacy. She will always be the best. They cannot take away her history. They cannot erase her name. Elena Mukhina, remember her!! 💖
Her coach should have taken most of the responsibilities for Lena’s injury despite the fact that he was not present at the time of the accident. The long-term abuse had already impaired Lena’s judgment, causing her to make a bad decision on the training. I don’t comment on the system. I believe Lena still loved her country.
It's tragic how this brilliant young gymnast was pushed past her limits, physically and mentally, and ended up paralyzed for the rest of her life, due to an accident which could have been prevented with a more careful training process, and not having to perform a move that was so dangerous that it was eventually banned from the Olympics. Yet one of the most amazing things about Elena was that she had no bitterness for what was taken away from her, not only her ability to do gymnastics, but even basic mobility, to walk and do certain tasks for herself without help. She even forgave her coach who changed her life forever -- and not in a good way, with his relentless training demands that pushed her to the point of exhaustion. After her accident, Elena could have simply just closeted herself away from the world and immersed herself in self-pity, but she didn't. She found other interests in life, encouraged other gymnasts and found ways to help other people. I'm glad that she found some happiness in her life before she passed away at the age of 46.
IOC President Juan Antonio Samaranch has always helped Elena financially. He understood perfectly well that yesterday she was applauded, and many young people dreamed of her, but today Elena needed help. It was like this. The assistant went to the kitchen, and Juan Antonio Samaranch stayed with Elena. He treated her with warmth.
In total, Juan Antonio Samaranch visited Elena eight times. He did not want to be accompanied by journalists and reporters. He visited Elena privately.
@elena_mukhina_flip In 1980, J. A. Samaranch was elected President of the IOC. In 2001.J.A. Samaranch resigned as president of the IOC, where he was replaced by Jacques Rogge. During this period, during a business trip to Moscow, he visited Elena in the apartment.
This is so emotional, thanks a lot for the video. It is important to show what she did after her injury, and she did a lot! She is an example for all of us, when we can´t achieve something, when we feel we are incapacitated mentally and phisically to do something, even emotionally and she shows us we can do it, we only have to find the way to do it our way, not the way that others want us to do it. I learnt a lot with this video. Others only show pity for her, with this video you show that she was a corageous woman that kept doing things until the end of her days, not everybody can say that, not even people without phisical problems. Sorry I´m not native in English, I hope I explained myself. Greetings from my little country Uruguay, far away from Russia, but we have russian descendants that live here, most of them live in a community called San Javier village, we have a connection :)
I agree the same thing. It was very inspirational what she did after her injury. I also learned a lot from this video. She was strong woman. I just can't imagine after you been so physically fit to go through something like that to extreme opossite way! oh Lord! It really took her a lot of courage to move on and keep living life. I trully admired her. For sure God somehow blessed her, and gave her strength. It mentions also about he deep religious faith. Well I am sure that she is in a better place with the Lord. God bless her
She is one of the countless, faceless millions killed by communism. She is just better known. RIP dear athlete, gone much too soon and suffered much too much.

I have googled and found that there are some books specifically written about her. I will make a post about it under the community section of this channel when I have time.
About a month ago, I learned about the story of Kamila Valieva, a Russian figure skater. I know she's not an artistic gymnast, but she's Russian, as Elena was, and it seems that her career has been screwed over by her coach and government, as well as Elena's. She's banned from domestic and international competition until December 2025, for doping, since 2022, when she was 15-years-old. She's been punished, but not her coaches, even though at 15, she was considered a protected person. Learning from Elena's story, in Russia, you do as you're told by your coaches, without any question, so in my opinion, if Kamila had actually that substance in her system, it was given by her coaches and doctor, but she's the only one been harshly punished. At 15, Kamila was at the peak of her career, and now, she can't even train at any government sponsored rink. In my opinion, Elena Mukhina was also a prodigy of gymnastics, because she pretty much went from zero to world champion in three years. Kamila is considered by many, the best figure skater in history, but she's said that getting enough sleep and rest, has helped her become the skater she's now. Also, at least Kamila has her mom and family members to help her through this nightmare. If Elena had been given enough time to rest, she wouldn't have been so injury prone. Klimenko didn't need to push her beyond her limits, because even Elena's first coach said that she was already a hard-worker. In one of Elena's interview, she said that she was burned out psychologically, more than physically. She stated that after she won the world championship of 1978, her coach told her that she was crap, that if she achieved something, was because of him and everyone that helped training her. What kind of motivation would one have, if you hear that kind of comments all day, every day, without giving you credit for your effort? Elena Mukhina would've become the best gymnast in the world, if she had been given enough rest and if not love, at least a little bit of compassion, consideration, and credit for her hard work.
I think Valieva’s coach is really good because many of her students were Olympic champions and very outstanding. But Elena’s coach was overrated. Elena was the only world champion among his students. Also, I can tell from the videos that Elena’s coach was very unprofessional and inexperienced. He did not really teach but push his students to perform the dangerous elements. Elena’s coach should have taken most of the responsibilities for Elena’s injuries.
To me the coach and the organization should have been charged for making her take off that cast to early and pushed her story has it when she fell that day she said good now I don't have to go to the Olympics for a girl like this this good chasing a dream and pushed the way she was and actually happy that dream was over that's what's really sad as her story is
I’m truly sorry beautiful there was NOT 1 person in your life that cared more about YOU and not the check. Cause let’s be real, all those people were eating off this little girls talent. Pushed her to the break. Literally.
Sou do Brasil.
There are already many videos about her tragedy. I hope more people can see a brighter side of her story. So, I made this video. Her life did not end at the time of the injury. Her life had been going on until she was 46. All stages of her life were equally important to her.
I’ve always been interested in the Soviet Union, and when I learned about her, I realized she was so good. So kind hearted, and hard-going. She is sadly one of the faceless millions killed by Communism. May she rest in peace. ❤

What a heartbreaking story. Elena Mukhina, the best gymnast in the world, practicing the “Thomas Salto” landed on her chin and got forever paralyzed; her government allowed this to happened while her coward coach immigrated to Italy. The beautiful sound track of the movie Somewhere in time in 1980, reminds me of a tragic coincidence. One of the main characters of this movie, Christopher Reeve, although being already an adult, also became paraplegic …so sad 😞😭RIP beautiful souls

Elena Mukhina was born in the shadow of Kremlin on June 1,1960.Elena's mother's name was Zinaida, her father was Vyacheslav. Elena had two grandmothers Anna Ivanovna and grandmother Nyura
They were sick people living off her talent and fame. They pushed her to her limits. They are the ones that caused her life to end. They should all be charged. I can only hope God will punish them all in some way to make their lives hell.
Elena was forced to perform on a broken leg! NO ONE can do Gymnastics on a broken leg! If she was allowed to heal then get physical therapy, she would never have gotten hurt. She should not have been abused and neglected and I am so disappointed in her so called coaches!
Nice to meet you. I don’t have anything new about her. I don’t post frequently. I set the time to release a post with a photo tonight. Also, I am going to set a time to release a new music video I made for her by the end of this month, maybe next weekend. Come back to watch it if you are interested🙂
@@elena_mukhina_flip that’s literally a dumb suggestion. There is audio of her speaking, yes? But, you would rather have the loud melodramatic music playing, instead of just lowering the volume to make it better for your viewers. Dumb.
If she ever had the same technology we have now, she could be return to a functional state than that. Too bad, she was born on those time when people only have ambition for themselves
Eu sempre me pergunto: Por que ninguém a salvou😢😢😢
God bless her soul. Rest in power, sweet flower. 😢 You never deserved any of this Lena ❤❤
I think she was much more than a gymnast!
Although in her time, the names of Olga, Nadia was bigger than her. But history will remember her more now. Glad to know she has faith in Lord Jesus
Greetings from Romania!ELENA MUKHINA THE GREATEST GYMNAST ALL THE TIME near NADIA COMĂNECI ANOTHER GREATEST GYMNAST ALL THE TIME!🌹🏅💓 💓💓💓💓Rip ELENA MUKHINA,ANGEL OF MONDIAL GYMANSTIC 🌹🌹🌹🌹
Her safety well being was way more important then a medal or recognition she miss getting married having children and so much more doing that dangerous thomas salto took everything away from her made she rest in peace
It was not about the MEDAL it was about making HISTORY!
By doing dangerous routine that are never been used before
Sempre nel mio cuore 💓
She must have had a big influence on Svetlana Khorkina for her to attend her funeral. RIH gorgeous!
Svetlana Khorkina paid for and installed a tombstone monument to Elena Mukhina at her own expense.
Beautiful girl…so sad
Elena Mukhina was born in the shadow of Kremlin on June 1,1960.Elena's mother's name was Zinaida, her father was Vyacheslav. Elena had two grandmothers Anna Ivanovna and grandmother Nyura
Thank you for your information. You knew Elena in person?
Come back again. A new video clip will be published tomorrow :)
Oh please do not write in russian. I don´t understand.
Ok, I translated it, I know what you said.
They were sick people living off her talent and fame. They pushed her to her limits. They are the ones that caused her life to end. They should all be charged. I can only hope God will punish them all in some way to make their lives hell.
I am sure that she has forgiven all of those who wronged her.
I think she would have forgiven them if they had apologized to her sincerely in the first place.
❤❤❤amo elena mukhina ❤❤❤
obrigada por tudo
Rest in peace ❤
If Olympic gymnastics has a saint, it would be Yelena Mukhina!
Everytime she does a Thomas Salto, she was lucky enough to land on her forehead or crown. Until....that last time.
Love you Elena
Music from Somewhere in time 💓
I don’t know much about music. This is almost the only music I could think of.
REST IN POWER QUEEN!
She's Saint because of her behaviour.
❤
I hate those coaches. Heartless
I love her ❤🙏🏼
Elena was forced to perform on a broken leg! NO ONE can do Gymnastics on a broken leg! If she was allowed to heal then get physical therapy, she would never have gotten hurt. She should not have been abused and neglected and I am so disappointed in her so called coaches!
Hey! Where are you?
Hi, are you looking for me?
@@elena_mukhina_flip,hi!🙂 Yes,i am🙂 Long time no see.
Not so long. You can give comments in response to the things I uploaded on to this channel.
@@elena_mukhina_flip ok. I have no seen you for any time. The last your post was two weeks ago. I'm from Bulgaria. Have a good day!🙂👍
Nice to meet you. I don’t have anything new about her. I don’t post frequently. I set the time to release a post with a photo tonight. Also, I am going to set a time to release a new music video I made for her by the end of this month, maybe next weekend. Come back to watch it if you are interested🙂
Get rid of the music!
You can simply mute the video if you don’t like the music.
@@elena_mukhina_flip that’s literally a dumb suggestion. There is audio of her speaking, yes? But, you would rather have the loud melodramatic music playing, instead of just lowering the volume to make it better for your viewers. Dumb.
It’s up to you. BTW, there are many “original” videos on the playlists of this channel. You can watch them if you are interested.
@@elena_mukhina_flip You're video is worthless because of the loud music. Do better.
@@AnonymousPerson0182you are very rude!
😭😢😔
If she ever had the same technology we have now, she could be return to a functional state than that. Too bad, she was born on those time when people only have ambition for themselves
