Just so you know TSA has trained passenger support specialists. If you are feeling uncomfortable or are confused you can ask for a passenger support specialist and they will help you through the entire process. TSA will also make accommodations if you have a disability. For example, you can have a private screening done instead. Good Luck!
I went on a trip for the first time in years and was SO nervous about going to the airport by myself! I watched your videos religiously last week and my experience was a breeze :) the tsa officer even told me thank you for doing everything perfectly bc it makes their job so much easier. Tysm Laurie!
You're going to have such a great time! Just get there early and soak it all in, smiling and saying thank you and being observant. Thank you for watching!
One of my favorite tips for the TSA line (particularly for the guys) ... Put an empty ziploc bag in an outside pocket that's easy to get to. While you're standing in line for security, go ahead and empty your pockets and take off your watch, and put it all in this bag and then slip it into your carry on. Don't wait until you're in the front of the line to get one of those little round bins and start emptying your pockets. I don't know how many times I've seen one of those little bins get bumped by a larger bag and the contents get dumped.
Yes,. I can't stand majority of men,. Have to empty their pockets. Belt off, while line behind them is waiting!! Have empty pockets, I D. ,& Ticket needed only!!
Another thing to think about. If you plan on buying a t-shirt wherever you are going, you could pack 1 less and then wear the one you purchase. Save room in luggage on your way and have room to carry it back. As usual love all your tips!
i’m 15 and have been flying solo for about three years now. it is so much fun and makes you feel so independent and powerful. just make sure you pay attention to signs and you will be just fine!
Love your videos! There are so many gadgets, bells, and whistles for travelers that it's easy to buy and bring lots of unneeded items. Go minimalist especially on the flights. No blanket, no pillow (except maybe for overnight flights), no doo-dads. Most or all of these you've mentioned in one or more videos, but these are things I've learned that help me: - Wear your heaviest shoes on the plane, but not ones that take forever to take off and put back on in security. - I wear or put on no-show socks so I don't walk barefoot through security, then put them in a sandwich bag to take home. Or you could wear old ones and throw them away, but I don't. - No need to buy shoe bags; use those very thin plastic bags your purchases are in when you check out in stores. Much thinner and lighter, free, and it doesn't matter if your shoes get them dirty or damp. I take a few extra for any damp items I might need to pack on my return. - I still use the basic eBags packing cubes like the one I saw in your bag. I can cram them full (neatly of course) and they are wonderful. (I want some of those beautiful Tripper compression bags but they might cause me to overpack or be overweight! I might still yield to temptation, LOL...) - LLBean makes lightweight, strong, water resistant "everyday tote bags" (not the heavy canvas ones) in many patterns. I use one for my personal item. The slim eBags packing cube fits right in the bottom of the medium size. I can pack an extra pair of lightweight pants plus a few tops and undies in case my luggage is lost. My purse, Kindle, battery pack, sweater, etc. go in it too. I have fancier ones but this has become my standard for flights. Good to use as a day bag, too. (I struggle with backpacks but they are a good option for some.) - Of course, keep meds, expensive jewelry (or leave it at home!), Rx glasses or contacts, and important documents in your personal item bag. Sometimes carry-on bags have to be gate-checked at the last minute. - Measure your carry-on luggage before you buy it. It's a pet peeve, but luggage manufacturers often don't include the wheels or carry handle in their given dimensions, but only the size of the actual box. Airlines count the whole thing! Some are stricter than others and that can vary from trip to trip. - Take a photo of your luggage so you have it in case it gets lost. Put your name and destinations inside. Perhaps put an Airtag inside, too. Attach a colorful handle wrap, ribbons, or tape (your tip!) to make it easier to find in baggage claim and to prevent someone mistaking your bag for theirs. - Bring a small thin pack of disinfectant wipes and wipe your armrests, tray table, and any buttons or knobs you might use. Bring a small pack of wet-wipes to wipe your hands. - I just don't put anything in the seat-back pocket, mainly because it seems very germy (I don't like hidden nooks and crannies) but also because I might forget them. I put items I'm not actively using in my personal bag which goes under the seat. Didn't intend to list so many but hope they help someone. I'm becoming addicted to your channel, btw!
As a reformed over-packer, I have learned to pack less and less. And how I became 'reformed' is because one time on a flight home from Europe I was charged something like 24 Euro for 1-2 kilos overweight. There was another time when I went to Vegas and I brought so much stuff in a huge suitcase for only 4 days. I was travelling alone and it was awkward to carry all that stuff. Please don't take it the wrong way when I say that perhaps your daughter needs to learn the hard (expensive) way to not pack so much.
Here's my favorite travel hack. When you go to the airport, wear a comfy jacket or sweater and a neutral color blanket scarf. Use the scarf as a privacy hood over your head for when you are sleeping and don't want people to see you snoring, mouth agape. Use scarf as a robe for chilly hotel rooms. I have a gauze material one and I use it as a swimsuit cover up as well. Use as a shawl for dressy evenings. Dress up casual outfits by wearing it as a scarf. In a pinch, I've used it as a beach blanket to sit on at the ocean or at a festival. It is my must-have item for all trips.
This was amazing, thanks! Regarding TSA lines, your tips are so so so needed! As a frequent traveler I'm glad you mentioned getting ready BEFORE you are at the conveyor belt. Make sure your laptop and liquids are on top or easy access from your carryon before heading to security. Also, make sure your stuff starts to go through the conveyor before getting in the line to the body machines (be aware that oftentimes a person in front of you probably forgot to take off their watch or bracelet or mobile phone or something and will need to grab a small bowl and push it through before your bags). The unwritten rule on the other side of the conveyor is that once your stuff comes through then slide everything away toward the end to give yourself room to put things back on and so that the next person can retreive their things and then slide towards you. If you have a lot of stuff to put back on don't do it right where the bags come out because that causes a bottleneck. While in line, I am emptying my pockets putting my mobile phones, wallet, keys, change, etc into my carryon pockets. While in line I always pat myself down a couple of times to make sure I'm not forgetting anything like a pen or a watch or my belt or something that I don't have a specific purpose for while going through TSA. Before you leave to go to the airport, briefly look at your outfit. Did you put on the shirt with attached metal ornaments? Are you wearing that huge metal bracelet/watch/necklace? Everyone at some point accidentally wears a TSA-unfriendly outfit, so before you leave you can easily either put some items in the bags or change up the outfit to be less metalic. Like you said, untie/unzip shoes while in line, so easy to slip off. (Personally I would say to avoid wearing flip flops because that is just disgusting walking around barefoot in TSA, but if that is your thing and I know it is for many because I always see it then you do you). I'm Pre-TSA and I always take off my belt while waiting in line and roll it up and put it in my carryon pockets. Yes it is not required for Pre-TSA but if it has too much metal and sets off the alarm then that takes up everyone's time. Just as easy for me to take it off and put it back on the other side. There are almost always benches or tables or something where you can re-dress. Also, another tip. Be polite/professional with TSA. Unless you are getting a 5am flight, the TSA agents have had loads of people already come through the lines before your party. They have to do certain things and have to use their judgement quickly. Every two minutes some TSA person has to announce loundly to everyone to use one bin per laptop, to take off shoes, to empty everything even paper out of pockets, etc. I would be cranky too after 4 hours listening to that while having to keep my security scrutiny about me. I don't know how long for the mask requirement, but right now the TSA agent will at some point ask you to "lower your mask" so s/he can compare your ID with your face. So be ready for that part of the interaction when it is your turn. Watch what they are doing with the passengers ahead of you (sometimes they want to handle your boarding pass, sometimes they want you to scan the boarding pass, sometimes they want you to scan your ID). There are basically two things they want to see (ID and boarding pass) and almost always they want to handle at least one of them, sometimes the other item can just be scanned so watch and listen. Avoid, if possible, putting any light/small items "loose" onto the conveyor unless you are putting it closely between two of your large items. My wife put her hat on the conveyor at the last second once and it never came out on the other side and the security people looked at her like she was crazy wondering where it was, so we had to head to our gate without it. Oh and while I'm thinking of it, if you are putting your phones/electronics/wallets etc in their own bins then put them on the conveyor before your bigger bags because if your bigger bag gets pulled off to the side for more searching then you will already have your electonics in your possession again since it will have come out first anyway.
Perfume, always leaks and then stains clothing inside my suitcase, carryon. Even when I double bagged a new sealed perfume bottle. So instead of bringing the perfume bottle, when I pack now, I dab perfume onto cotton balls, put those in a baggie or a plastic bottle. Note:When I am ready to use perfume, I squish the perfumed cotton ball flat, and then tuck that inside my bra, and the perfume lasts all day. Also, these perfumed cotton balls pack easily in your purse, again in a baggie, if you need to refreshen your perfume "on the go". Laurie, you have the BEST and the most travel tips. You are doing a fantastic job, helping us with all your travel experience tips. Thank you!
I do not pack any liquids that I can get at my destination, then I stop at the drug store or Walmart and buy the travel size of the things I need. Less to pack there and back. Every trip I take I see what I didn't wear and the next trip I pack that many less. If I packed 4 shirts and I only wore 3 then I only pack 3 next trip.I have gone from a 21" carry on to an under the seat bag. My goal is to fit everything into a back pack.
I would do that if I could also but when you travel to certain countries what you are used to is not available. I always have to pack my conditioner and my heat protectant for my hair. Lol
I do the same thing. I will pick up my liquids when I arrive. If I’m traveling out of the country..... I only pack undergarments and T-shirts I don’t mind leaving behind. Definitely makes room for souvenirs. I also travel with wool light dry cleaning sheets & laundry sheets in order to do my laundry wherever I’m at....I only travel with a carry-on.
Stay at the hotels that give out free stuff like tooth brushs, paste, shampoo etc. If they don't give it out, ask them to check in their lost and found for other things like toe clippers, hats, reading glasses, phone chargers, and phone cord country travel adapters. That way you don't have to pack it. If staying within country, flat rate mail dirty clothes sovienures etc home for anywhere between $7-30.
That’s why I keep my packing list on my iphone, so I can make changes based on experience. And when I amend it I email myself a copy so I can update it on my computer, too.
My list is on my phone. Has been for years. I have one for traveling to my folks in MI, one for cruises, one for my “usual” travel. Then I take photos of outfits just in case my luggage gets separated and goes missing.
I consider myself a fairly experienced traveler but I've learned a lot from your videos! Thanks for going to all the effort to make travel easier for the rest of us.
So glad I found this video! Going on my first plane ride next week and am extremely anxious about it. I wanted to see someone's routine of packing visually and am very grateful this video popped up. Especially grateful for that TSA tip about the app! Now I can study that everyday to make sure I get it all right.
I decided to rewatch some of these videos because I have been invited for a weekend trip in October to Texas. Instead of flying with my aunt in march this will be my first flight and solo. As always very informative. Thanks Laurie!
When I traveled often pre-cv, I used lists that I made and just switched out the outfits. Now that so much time has elapsed, I'm glad to get a refresher today and will make sure to review the airline sites!
I'm glad you commented on not packing "outfits" for everyday. I bring a pair of bottoms (jeans, pants, shorts) for every 2 or 3 tops. And I try to make sure every top goes with at least 2 of the bottoms. A "capsule" wardrobe, if you will. If I can't walk all day in a pair of shoes, they aren't coming on the trip! It isn't a fashion show! I think your advice is spot-on. I'm looking forward to a short flight a couple of states away to visit my Grandchild this summer.
The one statement that should be included in every TSA Video. Empty your shirt and pants pockets, “before” you come to a Screening Checkpoint. “Everything” you normally carry in your shirt and pants pockets, should be placed inside your carry-on bag. Wallets, Keys, Coins, Ear-buds, Chapstick, Photo I.D.’s, Phones, Boarding Pass, and Passports, should be placed inside a carry-on bag. “Never” place anything you can hold in your hand, inside a screening bin. Fewer items placed in bins, means faster screening for everyone! You can put things back
So glad I watched your video before closing my suitcase last night. I went back and took out a good chunk of stuff. Was able to carry on without any issues
i always make a packing list and it’s SO detailed! like „mini mascara from benefit“ „5 black socks, 2 white socks“. i even write in what bag or compartment everything goes 😂 i pack PERFECTLY! 👌🏼
I already have my carry on packed and ready to go, yet here I am watching this video and loving it!! As far as wearing your heaviest shoes, I normally agree with you, but I have hiking boots I pack, and I will not be wearing those on a plane 😆 That TSA line is so stressful for me though! I always feel like I'm rushed and moving way too slowly 😓
I flew my whole life traveling back and forth between my parents but my boyfriend has never flown before and I think this video is VERY helpful for new fliers like him! Even if he doesnt watch it, it helps me know how to better explain to him the things he will need to know!
I want to thank you so much for your travel guide videos! my first flight in 18 years is coming soon (and ill be by myself no less) and as someone with a pretty bad anxiety disorder i was freaking out for a while, but your videos have definitely helped with any question i had! im definitely going to be saving a bunch of these videos to watch later as the date of my trip closes in!
I always make a list for trips. I usually have a lot of time before my trip, so I just start a list. I detail which clothes I’m bringing and jot down things as I think of them during the weeks before the trip. Then I go through the list and add or delete whatever I need to, and use it as a guide to make sure my clothes are clean and ready to go etc. Then, a day or two before my trip, I start to pack. I only cross items off after I put them in the bag. That way, last minute things I need to pack are still on the list, so I won’t leave without them. It has always worked for me.
I actually prefer hard sided carry ons - you are less likely to overpack. I have been forced to check my overstuffed soft-sided suitcase because it didn’t fit in the sizer in the terminal. So I chose to buy a hard-sided carry on that I knew would fit every time and could not be overpacked. I found it on ebags. Hard sided bags are also less likely to pick up hitchhiker bedbugs in the overhead compartment.
Thank you so much for your information about liquids, make up and other important things for a woman to take ! I feel much better knowing my packing for 3 to a month is considered acceptable for me and the TSA !. A bring a large suitcase to check out and a small bolso w/ the needs during my flight.Thank you so much for your prompt replay , I feel I accomplish all according w/ regulations. My trip will be wonderful thanks to your expertise and super informative video. Thanks again Alma
Your family photo is so cute; your son is obviously thrilled. I've been watching your videos. Usually I travel alone and kept it really simple. I even pack samples packages for everything from shampoo to perfume. So I pack light. But my husband... he'd pack the kitchen sink if he knew how to remove it. We're about to travel for the Labor Day weekend, and I'm stressing over all the crazy balls things he wants to bring for our 2 day trip. Thank you for these videos. They are a huge help, even for someone who is fairly experienced in traveling. I grew up with a dad who worked for American Airlines, and now my brother also works for an airline.
Laurie, I’m so sorry don’t understand people giving you a thumbs down. You are so helpful with lots of info for all of us. Plus your just telling us the rules and how it is. 🧡
Laurie I just love your videos and this video is a reminder of how far you’ve come with not saying “I want you to” and “I don’t want you to”. I so appreciate you for now treating us like your students…but your adult students. :)
This will be helping me alot. I am 12, I have anxiety (so I overpack, procasinate, and try to avoid interaction with strangers) I will be traveling to Europe with grandparents who speak English and the native language of where we are going, and flying back with grandparents who don't speak English at all. This is very helpful to make sure we don't screw up and get stuck in the airport with me being a translator.
To my treatments I need to pack all the personal items. It is funny how during the week I make these lists. 1. Pillow, blanket, socks and more. 2. Snacks for a ten hour day. 3. Purse with all that you can imagine. I only take these three and they are amazed at how it all fits and there is only what I really need. Sometimes I have leftover food because my husband tends to buy me some where we are. You know you are my teacher and I’m a good student. Thanks! God bless you! ✈️
I wasn't aware we could bring 12 ounces of hand sanitizer - thanks for the info. as I will be flying in a few weeks. Regarding the comment on hard sided luggage, after using soft luggage for a lifetime, I switched to hard sided a few years ago. It helps prevent overstuffing of the bag (especially helpful for the carry on piece) and avoids arguments regarding whether it "fits" in the measuring thing airlines have at the gate. I had various encounters where the carry on met the measurement size requirement however was too stuffed to fit in the measuring thing and had to be checked in. Needless to say it was aggravating so I switched to hard sided. 😊
Thank you so much for these videos. I had not flown in seven years. You made the TSA line a breeze. I used a clear gotta go bag with all bottles with nothing more than 3.4 oz. I packed everything that was make up , toiletry , medication related in clear bags. I used a deluxe backpack and the pouch that came with it that were huge. I never had to take anything out of my bag on either trip. They remained in my personal item bag the whole trip. As you suggested I packed a crossbody bag inside my personal item bag to use during my trip. Thanks again for all the helpful suggestions . 😊
I just returned from LA and flew in and out of Newark, NJ. I had unopened packages of surface wipes and hand wipes. They were in a zip lock bag inside a small carry on. I go through Pre ✔️ and do everything you said. I had not seen your videos and leaned via trial and error. Going through this time TSA pulled my bag for inspection for the packaoof wipes. They showed up as a large dark spot on the screen. This was good info. I always have them with me and that actually has never happened before so IDK why this time. Anyhow, the TSA officer was so nice and respectful of my property, even making certain everything was back in its place, I looked at my sister with complete disbelief. I thanked him a couple times. He told us his "mother taught him to put things back the way you found it."
A written packing list is so important to me, because as a flight newbie, there is simply no way I can mentally remember every item I am suppose to pack. So thank you for pointing that out.
I felt the same way too. One thing that has worked for me is trying to stay at a place that has laundry facilities. I vacation at the beach a lot and having access to a washer and dryer has been super helpful!
When it's time to cruise again...we went on a 2 week cruise intending to wash halfway through. We used the ships laundry service instead of self laundry and we were so impressed; it wasn't expensive, it was picked up and delivered back to our room and everything came back on hangers with no wrinkles. Wish they did this on land for the same price.
Great video! Your soft-sided luggage suggestion is smart. This past trip, for the first time, I used a gorgeous backpack that matched my suitcase. Got compliments on it and how it looked with my carry-on. Big problem! It's very structured, and it doesn't do the Laurie schmoosh thing very well! I had a heck of a time getting it under the seat. Sadly, it's the last time I'm using it for airplane travel. I've got plenty of other personal bags to take its place. Be well, stay safe.
Flying tomorrow for the first time in 10 years. So much has changed! The most stressful part for me is going through security so this video helps soooo much. I was confused as to what to bring and if most of it was even necessary.
Okay, they have gotten so much more understanding. Remember you will never see them again. This is your vacation too. If you try to rush, that's when you forget things. And have fun.
I know this is from a year ago…but I’m flying on 1/2 and it’s a great refresher! I was considering taking a hard sided carry on but after watching this I think I’ll go back to my soft side.
Your blooper is the way I feel after loving on my daughters dog....he’s a German “shedder” !!!! I’m going to share your video, my other daughter is flying with kids soon and the reminders and changes will be great !!! Thanks
I have a flight in less than a day and I am terrified. This video makes me feel better. I have never been on a plane before and I’ve been nervous, so thank you.
Great video! Lots of helpful information. Thank you! I have a suggestion that has worked for me in terms of packing a blanket or hoody for the drafty planes. Years ago I bought the best hoodie I have ever owned. It's made by Quickflip apparel. A hoodie with pockets that I can turn inside out and it becomes a backpack! I have worn it on several trips. I'm always amazed at how much stuff I can fit into it. I usually have my wallet, headphones, snacks, chapstick, change of clothes, and coloring book and pencil pouch and a drink. It's so useful and most of the time I wear it to the airport, begin filling it up just before I get in the boarding line and by time I'm boarding people are asking me where I bought it. If I get cold on plane I just repack the items in my carryon or personal bag and wear the sweatshirt. A few times I didn't want to unpack it so I just wore it still packed and it worked ok. I was worried I might crush my headphones but they were fine 😃 I've been able to wear/use my Quickflip all over the US, Ireland, and Japan so far with no issues. So I have my Quickflip, a personal bag, and a carryon most flights. Short trips I can even skip my personal bag and just wear my Quickflip and carry-on. I bought mine for $32 in 2017
Thank you! I haven’t left my house in a year because of the pandemic, but as hope for travel safety gets better this was super helpful. Haven’t been on plane in many many years. Thank you.
Packing list and I also plan what items to wear when. Always travel back in the same outfit. Use items that can be washed out in the sink and dry quickly. Layers rather than big bulky sweaters or tunics. A big blanket scarf in winter can be a shawl a blanket a hood or a scarf. I have one in a neutral gray goes with Everything! Also a outfit for workout that can be worn as pajamas or a swimsuit coverup that can be a nightgown. Multitasking is the way to save space.
great video, thanks. Another tip for additional space to pack items is inside your shoes, and if you're worried about the hygiene of that area, just put the items in a sandwich bag before you stick them inside your shoes.
I have a master packing list that I use for all my traveling. I just change up the specifics based on destination (like will i need my hiking boots or just sandals? Cold weather clothing or warm weather, etc...) I love having this list so I never forget any essentials.
I’m a month away from our vacation and my list is complete! I begin throwing things in a 31 tote as I’m thinking of items that I may need. When it’s time for packing my suitcase, all my items are already in one place. I have to add that goodness sakes, your hair is amazing! This from a former stylist! 💇♀️
Thank you Laurie for all the tips. I am now ready for all my trips this year. I am not going to overpack this year😂😂😂. And I also wanted to say thank you for being an educator and I appreciated your video on traveling with someone who is on the Autism Spectrum. My son has Autism and is turning 30 this year. I am lucky because he has always been a pretty good traveler. Celebrating at Walt Disney World in December❤️
As someone who had my first flight when I was 16, I have made several of these mistakes. But at 36 years, I got this down. But thanks for a awesome video!
Laurie - Thank you for your travel tips and tricks. I watched a few of your videos and they really helped me with my trip to France! I so appreciate your help!
I am taking a trip to Florida in about 3 months and I feel amazing , watching these so I know what I need to do and have before even taking a gasp of air at the airport 😅❤️
Thank you Laurie! Your videos have really upped my travel game and I look forward to each one. I’m better at planning toiletries and clothes...and shoes!! Looking forward to traveling overseas again. Safe travels and thx again!!
I lived out of a single suitcase for a year (2006) and it was a rather large suitcase. At the time, I thought I did a good job packing. I did have to pack for different climates, technology, as well as professional and every day attire. Oh how times have changed! Now I only travel with a carry-on. As we get older, it’s harder to man handle luggage. Quoting Lethal Weapon “I’m to old for this s***”
I recently started travelling again and the statement about dropping your phone between the seats was a new one for me! Thank you for the explanation and a bigger thank you for your videos. I learn something new every time!😊😊
Thank you for all of your tips and tricks. I have purchased many things you have suggested in the past and have been happy with everything. Unfortunately, I haven't traveled yet. Missed out on Jamaica last March. But I intend to do something later this year.
Thanks for all of the much needed information. I'm flying for the first time next weekend and I'm going solo. I've been crazy anxious yet excited about this whole experience.... Watching your video has boost my confidence and confirmed I'm not taking half the stuff I thought I was...
I love your advice! Except for one thing hardshell luggage Gives you limits and it keeps you from having your bags be overweight it’s like a built in set of outlines I find it was easier for me to over stuff my soft bags and have them be overweight
I’m soft sided luggage gal too, most of the packing videos I see on RUclips the people have hard shell cases. I never had good luck when I tried them anyway.
i haven't went on a trip in YEARS and this is the first time i'm going without my trustable trustable parents as someone who heavily freaks out during the security checks, im glas this video exists thank you
@@TravelTipsbyLaurie it went well. I was scared for nothing. I just packed light and didn't pack any liquid I figured I can just buy at my landing site.
My granddaughter (15 yrs old) is going on her first ever plant trip to visit her dad (my son) in Anchorage, Alaska. I plan on having her watch this video to help with her trip. Her mother is convinced she will need more than her two carry ons for her seven day trip, because quote in quote she is a 15 year old teenager! Your tips helped me on my 12 day trip to Kentucky, so I know this can help her too! Thank you for such helpful videos! I will let you know how the packing ends up.
Ooh tricky. She will do great! Maybe she's one of those who wears leggings which will work in her favor. Or maybe start with 2 bottom pieces only. Those shoes could take up the most space. And have such a special time!!
I am taking multiple flights on my next vacation and one mistake you can avoid is packing for the weight and size requirements of the carrier that has the SMALLEST AND LIGHTEST restrictions. Ex. I'm flying to Ireland on Delta but then continuing on to Venice on Ryanair. Ryanair has smaller restrictions size and weight wise. If I max out with Delta I will be overweight and oversized on Ryanair.

My flight is in two months, heavily relying on these videos rn. I’m autistic & need a lot of research to feel comfortable doing something.
Good luck I leave in 20min same story ...feel like I need to unpack my bag and repack all over again.

I went on a trip for the first time in years and was SO nervous about going to the airport by myself! I watched your videos religiously last week and my experience was a breeze :) the tsa officer even told me thank you for doing everything perfectly bc it makes their job so much easier. Tysm Laurie!
Yay! I'm so happy for you. Thank you for updating.
Same here. Traveling for the first time in a long time tomorrow and soooooo nervous!! Love these video!! Soooo helpful!
This will be me in a few weeks
I'll be taking God so sorry not sorry.
My flight is in 3 days and it’s my first time flying! Kinda nervous but also excited. Thank you so much for this video! It definitely helped.
You're going to have such a great time! Just get there early and soak it all in, smiling and saying thank you and being observant. Thank you for watching!
how was the flight?
How was it? 😃
How was it?
How did the flight go
One of my favorite tips for the TSA line (particularly for the guys) ...
LOVE this idea and will use it. Thank you!!
Yes,. I can't stand majority of men,. Have to empty their pockets. Belt off, while line behind them is waiting!! Have empty pockets, I D. ,& Ticket needed only!!
GREAT ADVICE!!!! THANK YOU !!!
This is a great idea! I got my husband to do this when we were traveling.
One time I lost my watch in Saudi airport (Jeddah). It was heart breaking.
Another thing to think about. If you plan on buying a t-shirt wherever you are going, you could pack 1 less and then wear the one you purchase. Save room in luggage on your way and have room to carry it back. As usual love all your tips!
I do buy a few shirts to wear while on the trip....but I do pack about shorts or pants for every day.
i’m fourteen and i have to do this all myself. i’m so scared but you are making me feel so much better and i feel like i can do it. :)
Oh yes, you're going to have so much fun! Research beforehand so your vacay can start before you get to the airport. Thank you for watching!
Same I’m going to TX this summer by myself see if the people you live with can get someone from the airport to help you, xx🖤
You’re gonna be fine I’ve been doing this every summer since I was like 10 I believe but I had a chaperone when I was that young
I'm the same too now. I feel a little confident after watching this vid!
i’m 15 and have been flying solo for about three years now. it is so much fun and makes you feel so independent and powerful. just make sure you pay attention to signs and you will be just fine!
Love your videos!
There are so many gadgets, bells, and whistles for travelers that it's easy to buy and bring lots of unneeded items. Go minimalist especially on the flights. No blanket, no pillow (except maybe for overnight flights), no doo-dads.
Most or all of these you've mentioned in one or more videos, but these are things I've learned that help me:
- Wear your heaviest shoes on the plane, but not ones that take forever to take off and put back on in security.
I might still yield to temptation, LOL...)
- LLBean makes lightweight, strong, water resistant "everyday tote bags" (not the heavy canvas ones) in many patterns. (I struggle with backpacks but they are a good option for some.)
- Of course, keep meds, expensive jewelry (or leave it at home!), Rx glasses or contacts, and important documents in your personal item bag.
Yay for those tips, but people love seeing all that is out there so I keep sharing.
Is the link to L.L. Bean for that tote?☺️
My daughter needs to see this. She has one bag just for shoes whenever we go on vacation.
Omg 1 bag just for shoes I am praying for you daughter just have her watch this video
Ooh that's so smart! What color is the scarf?
@@TravelTipsbyLaurie the scarf is medium grey. Neutal. Matches everything I pack.
Where do you get that from?
I use 2 sarongs - the 'Swiss Army Knife' of accessories - wear one or tie it on handle + pack one.... I also use a bandana.
what is a blanket scarf?
Thanks for these! Hope you have more flights this year.
bro- u just made a whole college essay abt travel tips :/
Thank you for your tips Sir I don't want to lose my hat either, that was awful.
Thank you!
I just love this hack! Thanks for sharing. I had heard to put eye makeup remover on cotton balls inside a baggie.
I do this with my perfume too!
They don’t say anything about random cotton swab??
Pls don't use perfume on the plane, some of us are allergic.
Awesome hack which I'm gona use in 3weeks with perfume and nail polish remover...
@@GrantTravels23 That’s about as much as you’d pay for an extra suitcase. Minus the hassle, I suppose.
That’s why I keep my packing list on my iphone, so I can make changes based on experience. And when I amend it I email myself a copy so I can update it on my computer, too.
That’s why whenever I’m packing for in the summer, I try my best to stick to one piece outfit: rompers, jumpsuits, dresses, etc
Have a wonderful summer!!
@@TravelTipsbyLaurie | Same to you! I can’t wait to leave for my vacation next week 👍🏾
How did your trip go?? I'm leaving for a trip next week
Packing list! Yes, very important.
My list is on my phone. Has been for years. I have one for traveling to my folks in MI, one for cruises, one for my “usual” travel. Then I take photos of outfits just in case my luggage gets separated and goes missing.
This is kind of like when I go see my hubby in prison ha 🤣🤣 piece of cake
I consider myself a fairly experienced traveler but I've learned a lot from your videos! Thanks for going to all the effort to make travel easier for the rest of us.
Great to hear!
I loooove that cat chillin in the background 😍😍😍
He's so dapper! And he actually told me to tell you hello.
He is a cutie!
I swear it rolled its eyes when she mentioned people packing an outfit for each day. Cats are so over people. That was hilarious!!!!
I watched the cat most of this Video
Laurie, you are so fun to watch. I learn so much. Once a teacher , always a teacher. You are taking out some of my anxiety of flying.
Oh great! That is one of my goals. Thanks for watching!
YES,for me as well. It's been ATLEAST 20 YRS- since I have flown.
As the person who always seems to get pulled out of line, this channel has much improved my travel experience! Thank you Laurie.
You must be looking stunning. :-).
So glad I found this video! Going on my first plane ride next week and am extremely anxious about it. I wanted to see someone's routine of packing visually and am very grateful this video popped up. Especially grateful for that TSA tip about the app! Now I can study that everyday to make sure I get it all right.
I also have this video: bit.ly/HowIPackMyCarryOn
I decided to rewatch some of these videos because I have been invited for a weekend trip in October to Texas. Instead of flying with my aunt in march this will be my first flight and solo. As always very informative. Thanks Laurie!
That's wonderful! Do not miss this one: bit.ly/KnowBeforeFlyingThisSummer
When I traveled often pre-cv, I used lists that I made and just switched out the outfits. Now that so much time has elapsed, I'm glad to get a refresher today and will make sure to review the airline sites!
That sounds very organized. Glad you got some refreshers. Thank you for watching!
Have such a glorious time. Happy for y’all!
You can put things back
Exactly...be ready with your shoes, i.d., ticket and whatever else is required. MASK are part of your wardrobe!!!
Yes I'm so ready!
So glad I watched your video before closing my suitcase last night. I went back and took out a good chunk of stuff. Was able to carry on without any issues
Wonderful! I'm so glad. Thank you for watching!
I like to leave extra space in my bag on the way down so I can fit any purchases I make while on vacation.
Love this idea!
YES. for carry on, we pack that but roll up a small thin duffel for a “personal” for the flight back.
i always make a packing list and it’s SO detailed! like „mini mascara from benefit“ „5 black socks, 2 white socks“. i even write in what bag or compartment everything goes 😂 i pack PERFECTLY! 👌🏼
What good will five black socks be? Day 3 one foot will be without 😂
@@RUclipsrMe68 no 5 pairs of course!
I am going to take an airplane first time in pass 3 years. I am very nervous and am a packrat. Thank you for sharing information. Have a great day.
Thank you! Hope you have a great trip!
Me too! I did wear my hiking low boots last summer to Montana. But I agree.
I flew my whole life traveling back and forth between my parents but my boyfriend has never flown before and I think this video is VERY helpful for new fliers like him! Even if he doesnt watch it, it helps me know how to better explain to him the things he will need to know!
Yes, Kay! I also uploaded one just for men if he's interested: bit.ly/TravelTipsMen
I'm so glad!
How did it go? 😊
I can totally see that helping. Thanks for watching!
Hard sided bags also stand up to rain better.
I bought my luggage for cruises and just happen to be flying a little now, so I’m hard case all the way.
Flying for the first time!! Thank you for helping me I’m not as stressed out anymore !
I'm so glad!
I love this woman! Her videos are always clear and helpful.
I am so happy someone said it about hard-sided luggage!! I have never understood the obsession with it.
I heard it was because of bed bugs - much easier to get with soft-sided suitcases.
Hard-sidded luggage is more waterproof and it's a little harder for someone to smuggle something in your suitcase for you to get in trouble with.
My hard side carry-on is a computer bag. It protects my laptop, tablet, & ereader. It also provides space for 3 days worth of clothing & shoes
Oh that is so neato! Hope y'all have a good weather weekend!
Laurie, I’m so sorry don’t understand people giving you a thumbs down. You are so helpful with lots of info for all of us. Plus your just telling us the rules and how it is. 🧡

Hi and thank you! @@sandraokafor6184
Laurie I just love your videos and this video is a reminder of how far you’ve come with not saying “I want you to” and “I don’t want you to”. I so appreciate you for now treating us like your students…but your adult students. :)
Thank you so much!!
The TSA Twitter account is so fast about answering questions!
Aren't they great?! I use them alot. Thank you for watching!
I always make a list, because I’m always changing something lol but that way I have all I need.
Yes I have so many cross-throughs. Thank you for watching!
I just got TSA precheck which makes travel much easier, too! If you have a lot of anxiety about traveling, consider getting that!
Yes, it is so convenient!
I just packed my suitcase. Im glad I heard that hand sanitizer size tip.
Yay! Thanks for watching!!
@@TravelTipsbyLaurie Yw. Thanks for the tips. ✨
Im at the airport now.
I'm just so glad you're able to pack a bag. God claps his hands as you go out and marches on before you. Hugs!
Oh thank you for sharing. Also be sure you pull out the sanitizer in security if you take it.
First trip as an adult, most helpful
Flying for the first time ever next week, I’m looking at all these videos to see what I need to do
Oh awesome. You will do great! This video may help: bit.ly/HowToGoThroughTSA and bit.ly/CarryOnTSARules
Yay I am so happy your airport experience went smoothly!
Great video! Love the kitty in the background just chilling! Looks just like my cat Midnight. Loved the bloopers too
I just returned from LA and flew in and out of Newark, NJ.
Anyhow, the TSA officer was so nice and respectful of my property,
even making certain everything was back in its place, I looked at my sister with complete disbelief.
I thanked him a couple times. He told us his "mother taught him to put things back the way you found it."
A written packing list is so important to me, because as a flight newbie, there is simply no way I can mentally remember every item I am suppose to pack. So thank you for pointing that out.
Yes!
You’re the best! I love how you’re straight to the point!❤🙏🏻 thank you!
The clothing tips make total sense but for me I feel gross wearing pants/jeans more than twice on holiday. Especially after a flight.
I should too lol. Then you should watch my which packing method is best video so you can fit more in that bag. Thanks for watching!
I felt the same way too. One thing that has worked for me is trying to stay at a place that has laundry facilities. I vacation at the beach a lot and having access to a washer and dryer has been super helpful!
You can launder clothes in your sink or at laundromat.
Great information! Most of it I knew, but I learned something as well. The well-organized script makes it easy to remember.
Gosh I did not know about the cell phone catching fire...that is staying secured in my bag 😬
It is just if it gets crushed by a moving seat for example. Not a big alarm.
Thank you sooo much!! This means sooo much to me, and the dear Lord willl bless and keep you for ever and ever!!
Another wonderfully useful and super-clearly-explained video! 👍👍
I know this is from a year ago…but I’m flying on 1/2 and it’s a great refresher! I was considering taking a hard sided carry on but after watching this I think I’ll go back to my soft side.
I did get a hard shell and finally like it. Change is hard. I fit more in it than my 22” soft sided one for Banff.
Your blooper is the way I feel after loving on my daughters dog....he’s a German “shedder” !!!!
I’m going to share your video, my other daughter is flying with kids soon and the reminders and changes will be great !!!

I bought mine for $32 in 2017
Thank you for sharing. Wow!
Thank you! I haven’t left my house in a year because of the pandemic, but as hope for travel safety gets better this was super helpful. Haven’t been on plane in many many years. Thank you.
Best of luck!
Gwen, I love those ideas! Thanks for sharing ways to save space and for watching.
Hi Gwen
I love how your void is in the background with a face like 'this is exhausting...wake me up when you're done...'
I know; so funny!
great video, thanks. Another tip for additional space to pack items is inside your shoes, and if you're worried about the hygiene of that area, just put the items in a sandwich bag before you stick them inside your shoes.
Ooh, someone was worried about that hygiene so thanks for sharing this tip! Thank you for watching!
Thank you so much I’m flying by myself for the first time next year and I’m scared so this is going to be helpful
Oh awesome! This video may help: bit.ly/HowToGoThroughTSA
Omg thank you I’m flying in march and it’s my first time and I didn’t know how to pack and what I couldn’t bring but your video’s really help me
I have a master packing list that I use for all my traveling. I just change up the specifics based on destination (like will i need my hiking boots or just sandals? Cold weather clothing or warm weather, etc...) I love having this list so I never forget any essentials.
That's a great idea!
Oh thank you! It must have been a low humidity day.
Thank you for watching them!
As someone who had my first flight when I was 16, I have made several of these mistakes. But at 36 years, I got this down. But thanks for a awesome video!
I'm really needing this Laurie! I like the packing list and my carry-on is definitely overstuffed! 😫
Removing items now!! 🙌
Laurie - Thank you for your travel tips and tricks. I watched a few of your videos and they really helped me with my trip to France! I so appreciate your help!
Thank you so much for all the tips. I hope to fly in december 2021 or early Jan 2022. I will DEFINETLY review how to pack things and what to pack.
I am taking a trip to Florida in about 3 months and I feel amazing , watching these so I know what I need to do and have before even taking a gasp of air at the airport 😅❤️
You can do it! Thank you for watching!
Thank you Laurie! Your videos have really upped my travel game and I look forward to each one. I’m better at planning toiletries and clothes...and shoes!! Looking forward to traveling overseas again. Safe travels and thx again!!
We cannot wait to visit other countries again. Thank you for watching.
I always overpack thinking I need them. Watching these types of videos are very educational.
I pack too much too even with my travel tips.
I'm flying for the first time since I was 8, and I'm 30 now haha super helpful videos! Thank you!
Hope you have a great time. Here is a helpful video: bit.ly/HowToGoThroughTSA
You're so right lol! Man handle...Thank you for watching!
I recently started travelling again and the statement about dropping your phone between the seats was a new one for me! Thank you for the explanation and a bigger thank you for your videos. I learn something new every time!😊😊
Yes it was odd hearing the f/a saying to call them if it dropped but hubby explained why.
Yay and yes you can do it. Or treat yourself to a checked bag. But add extra time
I love your advice! Except for one thing hardshell luggage
Gives you limits and it keeps you from having your bags be overweight it’s like a built in set of outlines I find it was easier for me to over stuff my soft bags and have them be overweight
That's a great valid point. Love it. Thanks for watching!
Best advice I’ve seen. Know before you go is my motto.
So true!
I’m soft sided luggage gal too, most of the packing videos I see on RUclips the people have hard shell cases. I never had good luck when I tried them anyway.
i haven't went on a trip in YEARS and this is the first time i'm going without my trustable trustable parents
as someone who heavily freaks out during the security checks, im glas this video exists
thank you
Yay! Do not miss my First Time in the TSA Line video.
I like to have a blanket to cover my body and legs! I have a very light blanket that folds into a zippered pouch.
I need this in my life. 😂 Can you post a link to this, pleeease? If not, do you know the brand?
@@caitlin1662 it is by g-force. I got it at TJMaxx!
I have one too...i love it!😊
Today is my first time flying and I'm more then grateful for your videos!!! Thank you so much u help me relax A LOT!!!
Woohoo! How did it go? Think of any tips to share?
@@TravelTipsbyLaurie it went well. I was scared for nothing. I just packed light and didn't pack any liquid I figured I can just buy at my landing site.
That was really nice. The blooper part was really funny.
Dont forget about the food has to be in plastic bag.
I love how professional you are. Thank you so much for sharing! ❤️
Thank you! Cheers! Sorry for the delay.
Space bags! Compression means more fits. Clear plastic means you can seen what’s inside. Waterproof for wet or dirty clothes.
Great things to think about. Thank you for watching!
Yes, it is about enough to make me not want to pack for that. All of my personal item bags can fit under 50 seaters. It's so frustrating.
