Whippetman Dave, we had 4 whippets and wasnt going to get another dog. But keep seeing you with your side knick. Is increasing my temptation. I cant believe he is a rehome. Why and 3 families.
@@onemanandhiswhippet It's strange how these things can go. We have a whippet that we adopted at age 9. The previous owners loved her to bits but got rid of her after she bit one of their young children in the face, almost taking out an eye. To this day I cannot imagine what that kid did to her to make her do that. She's the sweetest, gentlest dog I've ever known and very well-behaved. I've never seen even a hint of agression from her, not towards humans nor towards dogs. But two wild toddlers nagging her day after day was apparently too much to handle even for this sweet and obedient dog. Shit happens I guess.
Once my whippets turn fifteen, they get to eat whatever they want. I have a fifteen year old right now who has cancer, but you wouldn't guess it by the way he greets me at the door and devours wet cat food. Old whippets are so funny.
My whippet Bella lasted 15 years and died with cancer. A tough whippet. She was riddled but wouldnt pack in doing anything. Sadly once the vet xray she said she would be too much pain if we bring her around. We took the vet advice and let her sleep peacefully. Invited back and it was the right decision. She looked at peace. She walked, ran and slept on my bed. I know Dave whippet will be in his bed with doubt the bed magnets.
We have a Whippet/Jack Russell cross. We feed him cooked chicken or turkey, cooked mince beef, or cooked white fish (Pollock or similar) all mixed in with some good quality dried food and carrots and sweet potato. We have found that he does not like to eat the main brand processed dog food. He also likes a few blueberries as a treat. We have no problems getting him to eat and he is very healthy.
I ordered a box of pooch & mutt wet puppy food on your recommendation & he loves it. The quality of the meat is fab , was feeding him on puppy food from billy & margot. He loves it but his poo is runny. Thank you for helping 👍🏼
What a pretty boy! I grew up with two whippets in the 90s before people really talked about feeding dogs like they do now. They got soft food for breakfast and hard food at night and tbh they snuck treats from the counters sometimes or off tables or wherever they could 🤣. The female used to particularly love sticks of butter which she would take and then hide in the couch for later after we had gone out so she could enjoy it unhampered. They both lived to 15 and I miss them dearly still. Such lovely dogs for kids imo.
We make our own for our whippet Bob. he has less than 5 percent beef mince mixed with green beans, carrots, lentils all mixed with his complete kibble. Its not done him too bad as he came a pretty decent second in his league at our racing club during 2019.
A hand full of biscuits, "The old how to keep your Whippet in frame trick". Looks like Pooch and Mutt is not avail here across the pond. I use for my Giant Louie, Natures Recipe, which is grain free with pumpkin, and I combine some cooked chicken with it. He likes it, keeps the belly calm, and the bum is mostly quiet. Louie time on a Wednesday, WOW, life is great.
Thanks for this Video. I have a 4yr old Whippet. I feed my little mate Zi Wi Peak from New Zealand. It is an Air Dried Dry Food he gets in the morning about 1 cup. It costs about $50 AUD a kg. At night he gets canned Zi Wi peak about 200 grams or some boiled chicken and veg that I prepare, but when I prepare his food I am always concerned that I have not got a balanced diet for him. So I will still give him a Zi Wi Peak Dry kibble the following morning. We live in Australia and the food comes from New Zealand, so with that knowledge and considering the price I have faith that it is of a good quality.
I was informed not to freed my whippets grain free products as this could cause dilated cardiomyopathy. Many studies support this. Also out first whipped was fed grain free diet and at 8 years old he developed cardiomyopathy. He died at age 12. Great videos. You Dǫg is so beautiful.
Timmy the Tooth has a mixture of canned (Blackhawk - a wheat-free brand in Australia that sounds a lot like your Pooch & Mutt); a little bit of raw food + a wheat-free dry food called Bloom (again avail in Australia only). He also gets boiled chook a couple of times a week + a can of sardines in olive oil twice a week for his coat. He's mad for fish! Timmy the Tooth is a rescued, retired, ex-racing greyhound. My previous dog, Jessie, was a whippet cross & had a similar diet as Mr Timmy. Darling Jessie passed away just over 12 months back at the ripe old age of 18. My heart is still broken but now Timmy the Tooth is my bouncing, 35kg bundle of joy 💖

My Standard Poodle was a faddy eater with a sensitive tummy. In the end we worked with the vet and eventually decided to go with Royal Canine Sensitive and mix his twice daily biscuits with some warmed wet food, like a sauce topping (he had a small dog pouch warmed up a bit). It worked a treat! It is never easy with these sensitive dogs, you worry a lot as they can lose weight. He also had beautiful teeth all of his sixteen years and was active til the day he passed away.
My dearest darling husband died in November it was sudden and unexpected I'm bereft I bought myself an 8 week old whippet hes beautiful iv had him 4 weeks his breeder fed him Eden puppy kibble with goats milk 4 times a day also Bongo is very precious to me
Very interesting to hear the story of how you arrived at the best food for Louie. I remember learning that many of the cheaper, brightly-coloured dry food is the equivalent of feeding your dog pizza every day. I found two brands worked best for Suzy, my rescue Lab of 15 years. James Wellbeloved worked pretty well, but Burns' Fish and Brown Rice was best. Suzy had a very sensitive digestive system but the Burns, plus plenty of long walks, helped her to live to a ripe old age.
Great video Dave and Louis. We have stuck with Chappie canned meat twice a day and a few dried biscuits as daytime treats for the last 11 years with Oscar. Same diet for Sophie who is 9. Both are Border Terriers and are slim and healthy. The vet always praises us and them for their fitness. Oscar needs a teeth clean soon but otherwise he is in great shape. The best diet is a variety of raw meat such as lamb, chicken, game, duck, venison and so on with crushed bone. Different meats provide different minerals , so a variety provides the perfect diet, supplemented with healthy biscuit treats and green veg. Durham meats are are British and safe and provide boxes with frozen meat in 400g packs. Easy to keep frozen when travelling in small freezer bag or 15:17 caravan freezer. I buy through Sure 4 Pets, Barnsley, where they have done serious research into dog diet requirements. And they deliver. If they have healthy poo, that is firm , never mush, gotta be a good sign , and easy to deal with.! My nearly 13 year old whippet is healthy and hopefully good for another few years. I do give her supplements for her joints, and she can still jump onto the kitchen counter when I’m not looking. Raw meat from a reliable supplier is worth considering
We tried our whip on raw but he wouldn’t touch it. He now gets processed wet food morning and evening and biscuits during the day. He also gets the occasional tin of sardines and the odd pigs ear. I wouldn’t consider any other breed other than a whippet now that we’ve owned one for two and a half years. He’s the perfect dog 👍
Thanks Andrew they are wonderful dogs 🙏 and they all have their different taste for different foods 😀 thanks for watching do check out our other videos of our adventures adventures with Louie 👍😀🐾
My two whippets have wet food and sardines in the morning and free feed kibble the rest of the day. The amount varies, but there is generally some left everyday :-) My girl didnt tolerate grains as a pup, but now she's older we just switched off grain free over the heart concerns. I've not gone raw over concerns I cant meet the needs, and I plan to take them out in my campervan! My pup's recall is a long way off camping, and my girls recall some days is incredible, other days not so much..
@@onemanandhiswhippet they're so amazing, in one year I went from no dogs to two dogs! They're such beautiful things 💖 and the best companions. Don't ask for much, just a daily adventure, good food, clear cues, kindness and blankets to snuggle under!
You should read about sighthounds at the vet and make sure to find a vet that has experience with sighthounds / greyhounds / whippets. There’s a lot of meds, especially anaesthesia, that are used in dogs that are very dangerous for Whippets! I’m glad he could recover after the incident but I recommend you read about Sighthounds specific treatments to avoid any future surprises. Lovely boy you’ve got there, my two girls would probably love to go on a zoom!
Just a follow-up to my comment on your more recent video on Pooch and Mutt. Lucy (foster rescue greyhound) came in with horrendous wind and horrendous bowel movements, and I have struggled to find something that works. She eventually was put on just dried food (Harrington's Lamb and Rice), but she really didn't like it (wouldn't even eat her breakfast some mornings). I purchased a small bag of P&M Health and Digestion dry food and although it's a little early to tell whether it is improving her gut health, her preference for the taste is remarkable - she empties her bowl in a "one-er" when it's full of Pooch and Mutt. When I mixed them up, she actually picked out the Pooch and Mutt pieces and left the Harrington's pieces untouched!
I’ve fed honeys raw dog food and my greyhound did amazing on it. I have a lurcher and whippet now and they both eat millies wolfheart with some home cooked tid bits. Sometimes wet food as a topper.
One Man and His Whippet also I use enzyme toothpaste such as Logic and Virbac with a dog toothbrush or baby toothbrush. Plaque off works as well short term but is expensive and I’m not too certain feeding it regularly is a good thing. I also give raw marrow bones but scrape out some of the marrow as too much can give them the runs.
I used to give Jewels 2 tins in the morning but she would only eat half and Zero would end up eating it, so I started feeding her one tin in the morning and one at night with added treats in between.... but after watching this video and asking Juliet if she wants to try the dry food, I didn’t get a reply but guess who’s off to the shop today to buy her some dog biscuits 😂🐶🐾 Keep up the great videos! Give my love to little Louie ❤️👍🏻
Raw trip is good for dogs , not so good for our noses 👃 the smell is bad but if it’s frozen its ok and while its. De freezing it ok until the dog bites into it but it’s really good for all the dogs organs and there joints they also need dry foods, but I would not recommend it in a camper van . It’s really nice to see people who look after there dog or dogs , I would love another dog, but it would not be fair on the dog as it would not get the exercise he or she would need he or she would be loved and looked after but with my wife not being a 100% I could not give a dog what is one of the most important part of having a dog .
Lol thanks Thomas not in the van as you say 😀 true you have to thing of all elements of have a dog or dogs 🙏 thanks again for watching mate 👍 take care 👍😀🐾
Food can be difficult to choose for whippets, luckily I've never had to change my dog's diet I like dry food for my 3, I add in fish, fresh vegetables and fruit my boy's love everything 😁 Louie always looks good 👍👍 Keep safe
It’s always interesting to hear people’s thoughts on feeding Whippets. I don’t think it matters as long as your Dog is happy and healthy. We decided to feed Brienne Whippet a Biologically appropriate raw food diet. 🐺👍🏻
Mix of good kibble and boiled chicken seems to work for my puppy, with the occasional salmon as a treat. He also enjoys bits of apple, strawberries and mango. Am I doing it wrong?
Apparently, sighthounds, like whippets, were originally fed a diet not consisting of much meat, to discourage them from devouring their prey when caught! Salukis survived on milk, bread and scraps for hundreds of years. So a raw diet wouldn't benefit a whippet regardless!
That was so strange seeing a dog eat slowly, even picking a chunk out and chewing it. Our Lab just dives in and it’s gone. We used to feed Burns and found the company really great to deal with and helpfulness when we needed information. We now feed raw food but a varied selection and the dog seems to do well just the same. Dogs do have intolerances to different types of food without us knowing. We had ours tested at vets and found some intolerance to certain foods. Burns were really good when we contacted them and recommended variations of their products which did make a difference to the dogs. All good stuff but as one of our first trainers said, you don’t need to feed as much good food so you get less out to pickup afterwards.
I've decided to try the Pooch and Mutt for my 19 week old whippet puppy called Woody so fingers crossed he likes it🤞 I'm weaning him onit slowly.. does a carton a day sound about right split into 3 meals with dry biscuits ?
Hi Alan at 19 weeks I think you will need the puppy food and on the package I think it show amounts for size and age of dog 👍 love the name Woody 😀 thanks for watching 👍😀🐾
Just so people know I contacted Pooch and Mutt about it and they said the food used in the video is fit for all dogs of all ages so that was a relief! They said feed my 19 week whippet puppy 1 carton of wetfood and 125g of dry food day
My girl gets Natures Menu raw complete. Frozen nuggets human grade 80% meat with added veg. Great poohs unless she gets too many treat biscuits. Difficult for a campa though at it’s frozen. It’s very much experimenting what suites your whippet.
Hi we went through a very similar process when we got Peanut. The bacteria issues put us of raw food and we looked for nutritional value and quality ingredients and settled on nature’s menu country hunter 150g pouches for wet food. 1 pouch split morning and night. And Eden Country cuisine holistic semi moist kibble and a hard kibble for a little variety. She loves it. We also add a little fibre recommended by the vet ( all bran swizzed in the blender to break it up) two teaspoons on the morning wet food ad a little warm water to mix it in, this firms up her poops and has resulted in the anal sacks emptying properly without vet intervention. A great vet tip. We give her 150g wet and 125g kibble in the day. Great vid thanks again Phil Lou and Peanut
One Man and His Whippet- we used www.allaboutdogfood.co.uk as a great resource to check the nutritional value of comparable foods. This helped guide us to the food she settled on
Thank you for this! I’m a Brit living in the US and was told by my breeder not to feed him legumes of any kind as they’re bad for sighthounds in general - so was curious if that’s just an Americanism as I see the wet foods you use have peas?
The Pooch and Mutt food is great for whippets it still the best food we’ve tested and we’ve tested all the top dog food if you look at me newer videos you will see an update on it too 👍 thanks for watching 🙏👍😁
I don't know why people think dogs need raw food, dogs evolved around humans and eating our scraps thousands of years ago, so i guess they would've eaten cooked scraps and some raw scraps. Dogs aren't wolves, just my opinion. I feed my whippet cooked chicken with a good quality dry food. I have to keep my whippet extra healthy because she has Addison's disease.
I am looking after my mums whippet at the moment he’s also called Louie, he’s fine with my 2 dogs both pointers but when I take him out he is very aggressive towards smaller dogs, have you had this problem or any tips Thanks in advance
Hi Darren Louie not a fan of big dogs It maybe just that he’s a sighthound and his natural instincts cutting in to cheers an attack small animal do you only thing you can do is keep socialising him and build it up slowly 👍 thanks for watching 👍😀🐾
Hi there, very interesting. I feed Jason and Eddie on a wgf dry kibble diet which i sourced locally and add a soft food by a company called Nature diet again wgf and made with natural ingredients. We're all obsessed with what goes in and how it comes out. I have to watch the protein levels with Eddie our Greyhound , has to be 20% or less. I feed both boys on the same food 👍
I tried the freeze dried raw diet by Dr. Marty. But my dog was not a fan. Sadly the heating process ruins most brands. I am going to try Pooch and Mutt.

👍👍
We tried our whip on raw but he wouldn’t touch it. He now gets processed wet food morning and evening and biscuits during the day. He also gets the occasional tin of sardines and the odd pigs ear. I wouldn’t consider any other breed other than a whippet now that we’ve owned one for two and a half years. He’s the perfect dog 👍
Thanks Andrew they are wonderful dogs 🙏 and they all have their different taste for different foods 😀 thanks for watching do check out our other videos of our adventures adventures with Louie 👍😀🐾
One Man and His Whippet thanks for the reply. Indeed they are wonderful dogs. I’ll have a look at some of your other videos 👍
👍😀🐾
My two whippets have wet food and sardines in the morning and free feed kibble the rest of the day. The amount varies, but there is generally some left everyday :-) My girl didnt tolerate grains as a pup, but now she's older we just switched off grain free over the heart concerns. I've not gone raw over concerns I cant meet the needs, and I plan to take them out in my campervan!
My pup's recall is a long way off camping, and my girls recall some days is incredible, other days not so much..
Thanks Alice 🙏 have you seen my video called can you answer theses whippet questions?

@@onemanandhiswhippet no!
I'll check it out.
But honestly your video is why I chose a whippet!
Oh wow 🤩 they are just amazing, loving and fun dogs 👍🙏😍🐾
@@onemanandhiswhippet they're so amazing, in one year I went from no dogs to two dogs!
They're such beautiful things 💖 and the best companions. Don't ask for much, just a daily adventure, good food, clear cues, kindness and blankets to snuggle under!
Oh yes 👍 🙏🐾😍
Redmills for racing dogs is a good shout
Cool thanks for the info 👍😀🐾
You should read about sighthounds at the vet and make sure to find a vet that has experience with sighthounds / greyhounds / whippets. There’s a lot of meds, especially anaesthesia, that are used in dogs that are very dangerous for Whippets! I’m glad he could recover after the incident but I recommend you read about Sighthounds specific treatments to avoid any future surprises. Lovely boy you’ve got there, my two girls would probably love to go on a zoom!
Thanks for the info 👍😀🐾
Excellent 👌 I’m so pleased she’s enjoying it 🙏😁👍
My boy is on a complete raw food which I supplement with egg and a bit of fruit and veg. No grains, no farts!
Cool sounds good 👍 thanks for watching 👍😀🐾
I’ve fed honeys raw dog food and my greyhound did amazing on it. I have a lurcher and whippet now and they both eat millies wolfheart with some home cooked tid bits. Sometimes wet food as a topper.
Thanks Vanessa 👍😀🐾
One Man and His Whippet also I use enzyme toothpaste such as Logic and Virbac with a dog toothbrush or baby toothbrush. Plaque off works as well short term but is expensive and I’m not too certain feeding it regularly is a good thing. I also give raw marrow bones but scrape out some of the marrow as too much can give them the runs.
Vanessa Lol 😂 oh no not the runs 👍 we do love out little friends 👍🐾😀
One Man and His Whippet 🏃🏼💨
I used to give Jewels 2 tins in the morning but she would only eat half and Zero would end up eating it, so I started feeding her one tin in the morning and one at night with added treats in between.... but after watching this video and asking Juliet if she wants to try the dry food, I didn’t get a reply but guess who’s off to the shop today to buy her some dog biscuits 😂🐶🐾 Keep up the great videos! Give my love to little Louie ❤️👍🏻
Many thanks Caz take care 🙏 see you soon 👍😀🐾
Food can be difficult to choose for whippets, luckily I've never had to change my dog's diet I like dry food for my 3, I add in fish, fresh vegetables and fruit my boy's love everything 😁
Louie always looks good 👍👍
Keep safe
Thanks Lesley 👍 that sound great food 👍 thanks for watching 👍😀🐾
i have started to give mine Acana Classic and Acana Grasslands -- it seems to work best for my whippet.
Cool thanks for the info Philip and thanks for watching 👍🐾😀
My good friend who's had sight hounds for many years said they all suffer under operations, admit more than others.
Yep that’s how we have found it too with Louie and Ben 🙏 Thanks for watching 👍😀🐾
Love your channel and friends.
🙏
Used Burns dry plus taste of the wild for my Parsons
Thanks Paul 👍😀🐾
It’s always interesting to hear people’s thoughts on feeding Whippets. I don’t think it matters as long as your Dog is happy and healthy. We decided to feed Brienne Whippet a Biologically appropriate raw food diet. 🐺👍🏻
Yep very true John 👍 and Brienne is looking great on it too 👍😀🐾
Mix of good kibble and boiled chicken seems to work for my puppy, with the occasional salmon as a treat. He also enjoys bits of apple, strawberries and mango. Am I doing it wrong?
No, Not at all if he’s happy and well that’s the test 👍 thanks for watching 👍🐾😀
Apparently, sighthounds, like whippets, were originally fed a diet not consisting of much meat, to discourage them from devouring their prey when caught!
Salukis survived on milk, bread and scraps for hundreds of years. So a raw diet wouldn't benefit a whippet regardless!
That’s all new to me 👍
That was so strange seeing a dog eat slowly, even picking a chunk out and chewing it.
LOL yes whippet take a bit more time compared to a lab 👍 Interesting thanks for the info 😀 and thanks again for watching 👍😀🐾
They said feed my 19 week whippet puppy 1 carton of wetfood and 125g of dry food day
Alan Ashworth excellent well done 👍🐾😀
My girl gets Natures Menu raw complete. Frozen nuggets human grade 80% meat with added veg. Great poohs unless she gets too many treat biscuits. Difficult for a campa though at it’s frozen. It’s very much experimenting what suites your whippet.
Thanks Lesley 👍 😀🐾
Man, you should have 188,000 subscribers. Great content. I'm looking for a whippet and find you channel a great reference.
Well thank you 🙏 hope you find your new best friend 👍🐾😀
PS how much food (grams ) per day does Louie have an how much does he weigh ?
Cool thanks for the info Phil 👍 hope you Lou and Peanut are all well 🙏 thanks again for watching and take care 👍😀🐾
I don’t Measure his food he get two lots of wet ( size as in the video) and the dry is available all day 👍 Louie is about 14 to 15kg 👍😀🐾
One Man and His Whippet- we used www.allaboutdogfood.co.uk as a great resource to check the nutritional value of comparable foods. This helped guide us to the food she settled on
Cool thanks 👍😀🐾
beautiful dog
Many thanks 🙏 👍😀🐾
Nice dog Man😊 this dog is whippet
Yep 👍 thanks for watching 👍😀🐾
Thank you - ordered it from eBay (USA)
👍 no problem 👍🐾😀
Thank you for this!
I’m a Brit living in the US and was told by my breeder not to feed him legumes of any kind as they’re bad for sighthounds in general - so was curious if that’s just an Americanism as I see the wet foods you use have peas?
The Pooch and Mutt food is great for whippets it still the best food we’ve tested and we’ve tested all the top dog food if you look at me newer videos you will see an update on it too 👍 thanks for watching 🙏👍😁
Thanks for the video!
🙏👍👍👍
Where did you get the tee shirt? Love it!

Hi, could you tell me where you got the ball on the rope from please?
There you go Trixie Ball on a Rope, Natural Rubber, Floats amzn.eu/d/2EcIRAO
I have a whippet and you’re with is very steel my whippet moves around too much
Many Lanier there’s lots of whippet videos on my channel 🙏👍🐾
I don't know why people think dogs need raw food, dogs evolved around humans and eating our scraps thousands of years ago, so i guess they would've eaten cooked scraps and some raw scraps. Dogs aren't wolves, just my opinion. I feed my whippet cooked chicken with a good quality dry food. I have to keep my whippet extra healthy because she has Addison's disease.
Yep I tho l that way too 👍 thanks again for watching 👍😀🐾
I am looking after my mums whippet at the moment he’s also called Louie, he’s fine with my 2 dogs both pointers but when I take him out he is very aggressive towards smaller dogs, have you had this problem or any tips
Thanks in advance
Hi Darren Louie not a fan of big dogs It maybe just that he’s a sighthound and his natural instincts cutting in to cheers an attack small animal do you only thing you can do is keep socialising him and build it up slowly 👍 thanks for watching 👍😀🐾
how long does the big bag last and does Rosie eat the same food ?
It lasts about 2 months and yes they have the same food 👍👍
Please provide the name of the harness and where to get the ball on the rope
Hi Don all you need to know is in this video ruclips.net/video/veP5bcfJctE/видео.html thanks for watching 👍🐾😀

@@onemanandhiswhippet Forgot to ask - Why are so many of the Whippets on RUclips and other online resources male? Are males preferred over females?
Don Schmidt I’ve no idea 🤷♂️ it is strange is it 👍😀🐾
Hi there, very interesting.
Yep Very similar Lisa 👍 the one and the out it the test 👍😀🐾
I tried the freeze dried raw diet by Dr. Marty. But my dog was not a fan. Sadly the heating process ruins most brands. I am going to try Pooch and Mutt.
It’s best we have found to date 👍 🙏😀🐾
