When exposing Tool to new listeners, after hearing the song for the first time, I tell them now put on the headphones in a dark room, close their eyes, and listen to the song. Where did the journey take you? I've heard the songs hundreds of times and I still find somethings I didn't notice before, sometimes it's like and out of body experience. Enjoy!

That’s exactly what I tell good reacters. Gotta turn off the lights, lay in the dark, away from the camera and listen just for you. 👍

Not quite, I would say before you turn off all the lights you need to listen one more time while reading the lyrics.

Personally, I use big floor speakers and lay on my back under the pool table. By the end of this song I am sweating and exhausted.

Your review was a pleasure to watch. You didn't pause the song, you listen to it straight through and didn't interrupt its flow. That's so important. Bless you man, bless you.

Some people may scoff at the comparison but I agree with the sentiment. The song really does have this grand, sweeping, almost cinematic feel to it. It’s just epic and beautifully composed!

  • @heyskipj

Favorite part of the song is when Adam's guitar "echos" his notes. Playing one note on the left ear then answering with a complimentary note on the right is tasty, if that makes sense.

It's called guitar harmonies. I've loved when other guitarists have done it so when I heard adam pull it out on my first listen I was so hype

  • @Markhypnosis1

You're right about the intensity. It's not "in your face hard" like their other stuff, but it's still VERY powerful in its own way. This is probably their most melodic track, and is almost like a break, a rest from their more hard hitting songs, which can be overwhelming at times. I love the way it builds up from a gentle melody into that inspiring crescendo before that build up into the rhythmic tribal part.
This is probably one of my favourite Tool songs.

For me this song is a wake up call to humanity. ALL life here on this floating rock is fleeting. We begin in the winds of gas without form. then from the water life takes form. In the end returns to the waves and water. Earth lives on. I actually see this as a way to bring people together to face the very real fact we have to share this bountiful world. Spiral Out!

I love this song so much - there's so much going on that it took several listens for it to become my favorite song on the album and one of my absolute favorite songs. Three moments that always give me goosebumps are the line at the very beginning "Floating isn't flying, Falling isn't infinite", then later Maynard challenging us to "Rise!", and finally Adam's amazing solo while Danny brings in the double bass drum. I really enjoy your reactions, thank you for sharing your Tool journey with us!

I posted this on your High Hopes reaction... "Wonderful reaction young man! In my life there have been 2 bands that were able to almost magically reach inside me and swell my emotions. One of them is Pink Floyd and the only other band that is comparable for me is Tool. In both bands, each and every band member is a master of their craft, but above that, they are all in sync with each other as well as with where they want the music to take you. When it comes to music with Pink Floyd and Tool, you don't listen to it... you experience it. Keep up the great work my friend!" Tool is the bridge between the primordial parts of the universe and the primal part of man. Following you for more!

The lead singer of Tool actually has a couple of bands. Another band of his is A Perfect Circle. They sing a song called Judith. It's supposed to be the only time he used profanity on that album. I love Tool! I always thought the meaning of Tool meant the human mind. You should check out the Tool video of where they take into the drummer's setup while playing. Forgot the name tho

Okay i gave it a second try. The solo was good but its not a song id rally around. Im not sure where the solo took me. I went down like descending to hell somewhere, lol. I guess for the older generation we celebrated being " one." Yeah the song actually depicted the loss and
Our descent. Must we stay there? No we didnt at all. It was the opposite. To this day i can come across any gen x anywhere and theres a kinship there.

So this their 2019 album. It’s their most refined and polished album.. took them 13 years to make it. The guys who play instruments wrote and perfected their part then Maynard made lyrics later. Personally I can see this album as a masterpiece.. that aged whiskey you drink slowly and reflect on.. but… it’s not my favorite album and I feel like there’s a disconnect between Maynard and the music. 🤷🏼‍♀️ to each their own. I’m sure my opinion is an unpopular one.

    • @MDreeezy
