I love watching her videos too. When she announced she made a RUclips channel, I immediately jumped on RUclips and searched her name and subscribed asap lol
I just have to say as a fellow type 1 diabetic that I think it's so cool how supportive and informed your friends are!! I don't have any friends who know much about it or can get excited with me or understand it, but I think it would be so cool to have that!! So glad you have some awesome people around you!!
I've been wearing a CGM ordered by my endocrinologist because I've been having symptoms of low blood sugar issues (I'm insulin resistant but NOT diabetic or prediabetic... well... we're trying to figure out if I might be but not at the moment) and I just wanted to say your videos have been super encouraging and fun to watch. It has made me less scared in general of what is going on with me, so thank you!
My dermatologist recommends plain Vaseline if your lips are reacting to things! If they’re still irritated after some time using only plain Vaseline, then you could ask your doctor for something to target irritation, like Protopic 🙂
Imma just add in here~ If using vaseline still doesn't work try finding a lip balm that DOES NOT have petroleum. Or using plain Shea Butter could work too. The same thing kept happening to me, was using plain vaseline or pawpaw... Turns out I became allergic to petroleum
My mom had a diagnosis of TD2 about 2 years ago and when I found you a few months back it really helped me understand how diabetes works and you’re also a fellow Canadian (I’m from Quebec) so I can finally understand the numbers since it’s on the same measurement
It's not a Mary problem!!! When I was on the pump and sensor, I had so many issues (like forgetting to change my sensor, waking up in the middle of the night cause I forgot to calibrate before I sleep, or my sugar just drops so low or too high, etc. The list goes on) but after seeing your videos, I realised IM NOT THE ONLY ONE😭😭 It's hard to remember everything all the time. Your videos reminded me that I'm not the only one who forgets stuff, makes mistakes, and has highs and lows often. So thanks for posting and glad to see you back again😊
YAY for getting your dexcom 🥳 Just got restocked here too, 2 months of dexcom/cartridges but both sensors for dexcom and 3 months of cartridges (on tslim cause my life depends on that Control-IQ), in Texas so hit my full out-of-pocket deductible so gonna be luckily of only 20% of costs for rest of the year woot 🤩 But it's a rule here that they have to reach out to ur endo every 6 months to get confirmation that you are continuing to see them to get ur supplies- used to 1 a year but changed...and that includes for your insulin prescription...cause ya know, my pancreas might decide not to be worthless one day 😒
I don't have diabetes, but one of my kitties does. Maybe it's silly, but I feel like I can do a better job watching for symptoms from what you've mentioned in your videos. :)
Lately I’ve been feeling like maybe there’s been a problem with my glucose levels and I like watching your videos about how you feel when your blood sugars are high or low and it’s giving me a lot of guidance thank you
HI. Love watching your videos. My son whos 9 became a Type 1, 2 years ago. He just went 10 days without a Dexcom because his last one, that was on his belly, stopped after 18 hours for a unknown reason. I showed him your Videos and he got the courage to put it on the back of his arm, and do insulin shots in his belly, with a little persuasion from me and his Aunty. He's still to scared for a insulin pump, LOL.
OMG Mary, I was legit screaming at the screen at you. Too bad this wasn't live. LOL! I restart my sensors all the time, and I don't remove the transmitter anymore. There is another way. When I did remove the transmitter I used a hair clip. Worked better than a test strip. SOOOO glad you had a transmitter on hand. I almost had a heart attack for you. How did the 20g go for the Chilli bowl and did you eat the bread? I'm not a very experimental Diabetic and I crave Timmies Chilli bowl.
Finally, my test strips are on their way! No more living on the edge! (God, I feel so terrible right now - cannot keep anything down, and defs not my meds. Guess who’s prepping IM Gravol right now? It’s me. Why am I doing this when any second I could puke on my nice sterile supplies? This is why I have a wife. …among other reasons) Glad you have your Dexcoms! ❤
My cat has diabetes! He’s healthy and well and it has been a complete life change to see him happy again and acting like a kitten all over again ❤❤❤ Just felt like putting this random comment on here. Btw I love you videos! Let’s goo Canada 🇨🇦
I have type 2 diabetes and I can't even imagine what it must be like having type 1. Having to constantly worry about your blood sugar level sounds insane. I hope you recover from it soon and feel better. Good luck.
I’m so glad that you got your Dexcom! I am not looking forward to refilling my scripts because everything restarts for the new year and I never know how much my medicine is going to cost. This is the worst thing about going into a new year! New deductibles! Much love to you! I love your content! Much love from Oklahoma, USA 💗💗💗
Haha, my mom is type 2 and she was putting on her new DEXCOM, and I am always talking about your videos, and she was like hey why don't you come put my new one on for me lol... I mean I have been a nurse for 23 years, but nothing like learning something new lol
Ok, your channel popped up as I have researching the new Dexcom G7 (which you have not been using). So far, I am finding your vids high-larious in an interesting way.
I CANNOT imagine being so long without a dexcom! We’re trying to get legislation in the US to have access to cgm’s for all type 1’s. Side note: apparently across the border we use an entirely different scale for blood glucose. What is a safe range for you? For our scale, 80-120 is normally considered in range. Thanks!
In Canada a normal person is somewhere around 6 to 8. In Canada anything below 4 is considered a critical low and you need fast acting sugar. Below 3 you are at risk of passing out, though my daughter and some others I know have been just above 1 and still walking. Anything above 10 is considered high. Anything above 20 is considered a critical high and you should start considering the ER. You need to start testing your urine, will feel nauseous and may start to appear intoxicated. Depending on the meter, they won't read 30 and above, they just say high.
My lips did that same thing and then I realized I gained a new allergy to tomatoes. The allergy got worse for me until I finally figured it out. But my lips got super super bad and there still more susceptible than they used to be to being extremely chapped. I tried aquaphor, the 3.5 oz container not the lip stuff. It works wonders.
Really enjoying your videos; super informative. I’m sentimental because it reminds me of spending time with my gramps as he was a type II diabetic but was constantly having to check a monitor his sugars. My granny was awesome she had a list of common foods or dishes in the house and exactly how many carbs & insulin was required. I’m not diabetic, but I am very likely hypoglycaemic as I’ve definitely had a number of low blood sugar episodes lol. I have found the best breakfast is like a oatmeal with ground flax, chia seeds, hemp hearts (b/c protein), and a variety of nuts (roasted are very nice) and 2 fresh dates chopped. Have with a mix of almond/oat milk (though almond milk is better as like 1 carb per cup!!) Dates surprisingly have a number of perks for helping diabetes (if you want the research article I can go dig for it!). Recommend the fresh ones from Costco. Anyways! Thanks again, hope the breakfast idea helps! 😊I know I’ve felt better and had less lows with it. This is likely because it’s whole grain ingredients and there’s a whole butt load of protein and fibre. Take care! 😃
When that happened to me, I had a new allergic reaction to mangos. I suggest actually using water or face wipes for a few days to wipe your lips after each meal to give you lips a chance to heal. Then keep track of what you ate before you feel your lips tingling or hurting and maybe you can find a common denominator
There's hardly any tim Hortons in the UK but one opened in 2020 near me and I LOVE IT!! Ham and cheese tostie and a cherry cooler... Or refresher... Whichever isn't like a slushy.
Every year my doctor has to send a note to the insurance people to say I'm still a Type 1 Diabetic. If I am missing something where I can take like a year off please tell me LOL
You need to be restarting sensors! When your sensor expires, don't rip it off! Use a test strip like you did and pop out the transmitter carefully. With practice you will learn exactly where to poke the test strip on each side of the transmitter for easy removal. Now wait 10 minutes and be careful not to disturb the empty sensor. After 10 minutes, click the transmitter back into the old sensor and activate with the same number as the old session (be sure to remember your sensor number) I have made one sensor last 30 days. It won't be as accurate after the (bootleg) but it is better than nothing until your prescription is refilled👍
Just a dark roast black coffee to save time. The only Tim's coffee I can drink now. Now at home it it 2 cream and 3 sweeteners. A lot of Canadian health insurance has been pushing poke based glucometers. Mine makes me pay in full then submit (blue cross)
Please check your lip treatment for irritants...I have the same sort of symptoms you describe, and when I switched to All Good's original lip balm I've never had another flare up. The fun tingly ingredients in the other lip balms seem to cause my symptoms 😑
Bottle nose tweezers are a good tool to pop it out with. I had so many issues with my transmitter last night, had to pop it out and restart it cause I wasn’t loosing a brand new sensor. But the tweezers worked perfect. My husband did have to help me hold the actual sensor in place so the cannula didn’t lift out while I was digging with tweezers. Ahh the things we do to not waste a dexcom Word of advice: if you upgrade your phone and use Your phone to transmit to, make sure to delete the app on your old phone and make sure the transmitter isn’t still being picked up by the old phones Bluetooth.
hi! I love your videos and am finding them really helpful, i was wondering if you could do an explanation video about the PDM itself and applying it in detail, i have tried to watch videos about it but i think your perspective would be more helpful as I might be getting one soon!!!!
I am a stripgirl. Dexcoms are way too expensive where I'm from. Honestly, diabetes is out of control but I think your vids really encouraged me to continue fighting. Been diabetic for almost 14 years now and it's been a struggle over the last 4 years because of other diseases I have. Thanks for your content.
I don't have diabetes (that I know of... I'll explain) So my sister has type one, my grandmother had type one, anyway, I'm getting tested because apparently there's a way to see if your pre exposed. So I get that result end of this month but in preparation I've been watching you non stop, love your videos. I'm learning, quite a alot. I've only gone low like twice, we have a blood testing thing. You also asked for coffee orders, I just do straight black coffee.
I have Libre 2 bc it’s the only one that my insurance covers but I would much rather have dexcom bc Libre falls off after like 1 shower and it’s rlly annoying
Can you do a vid on being diabetic on the Canadian healthcare system. I always thought Canada was like the the UK/NHS not the US but you made several comments on coverage/insurance and how much stuff costs. For me in the UK everything is just free and it is for all diabetics.
@@hilder4168 This used to be the case but it changed. The most recent info from the BNF(the document the NHS uses to inform treatment) says ALL type 1 diabetics should be offered a CGM/flash. Getting a pump can still be difficult though.
I just found your channel and love your videos. As far as I know I do not have diabetes however my mom has it and is on insulin and both my grandmother and my grandfather are diabetic and have to test and have insulin on hand but don't have to take to often but my mom is multiple times a day. I had to learn how to Check her sugars and give her insulin incase she went in a low after one time she did and I didn't know what to do and had to call 911 this the dexcom would have been amazing for her to have I told her about it now
The lip thing could be because you're having highs. When my blood sugars are higher my skin EVERYWHERE is dry and I get like little bumps around my eyes and lips
Do you like dogs? I think there's dogs that are trained to alarm you when your sugar is either too low or too high? I might be wrong on the high part. Anyhow, would this be good for you to look into?
Yes you are absolutely right they do have service dogs for diabetics!! I already have a dog so at this time I can’t get another one, but down the road I think I will look into it! 😁
I had no idea that you guys in Canada had to 0ay for diabetes related prescription. In the UK if you have diabetes you get all your prescriptions for free (not just those related to diabetes). So the finger prick test machine, the strips and the regular insulin shots will be free. I guess I always assumed that anyone who wanted to use a similar system to yours (the omnipod & dexcom combo - whatever the equivalent tech is here) would be able to do so, free of charge too. However, doing a quick Google, it seems it's not quite so straight forward, you have to fit certain criteria for it to qualify. This is really interesting to me as I have a friend who is type 1 and she's talked before about whether or not to get a pump. She's been using injections for almost 20 years now, but her diabetes is also unpredictable no matter how focused she is on it. When discussing whether it might be a good idea to look into a pump, we never once considered it might not be available for free. Lookingnat the guidelines,mi do think she would qualify, but notnevery T1d will.
The system is messed up in Canada for diabetic supplies. The other big difference in the UK is that the moment you are diagnosed as T1 they push you towards the pump. In Canada you have to wait a year, prove your T1 us under control and keep proving it to the doctor and government. As mentioned in the video if your diabetes is not under control there is a constant threat of your pump being taken away, which is borderline psychotic. In BC (West Coast) you have a mandatory insurance plan (MSP). For a family like mine, we have to pay the first $1,500. There are coverage exemptions and such. For example, MSP will cover your pump (about $5K) every 5 years, for everyone. There was a cutoff of coverage at 21 (like you are now healed) Only 2/3 of insulin is covered (about $150 a vial). X number of pods per month. Etc... People used to scream because you get free syringes and cleaning supplies if you are a drug addict but diabetics were reusing syringes because they couldn't affor new ones. We are about 30 minutes from the US border and there are many Canadian diabetics who move there for work and then move right back once they try paying for supplies there. Something like $350 a month for insulin, you have to prove you are not an addict to get a syringe, etc... Get her a pump. Diabetes is way more manageable. You don't have to do the crazy long acting insulin ride. Health benefits are enormous.
I don’t have diabetes but have worked with my mom and before I became a sahm I worked I’m the hospital. Now it’s been a while since I have but what I don’t get it is why do they have 2 devices why can’t they make it simple and out everything into 1? I don’t know if it’s possible I’m just shooting the question out there lol
I do not have diabetes, nor do I know anyone with it... but I like watching your videos just the same. I guess I'm just learning something! lol
Sameeeee lol
sameeeee i know one person with it and i met them a week ago on my soccer team
Yes me to!
Same!
I love watching her videos too. When she announced she made a RUclips channel, I immediately jumped on RUclips and searched her name and subscribed asap lol
I'm a nurse, and I really want to become a diabetes nurse educator. These videos are hecking helpful, and I love your energy.

Hi from Indiana. I love your videos. I'm a type 2 Diabetic. I'm glad your better from the covid and got your dexcoms.
Thanks Amy!! 😁💕
Watching your videos makes it feel a lot less scary, I’ve always hated needles but watching the way you react has helped me a lot.
I am a T2D just 6 months diagnosed and I randomly came across your channel. Love your content.... I am also not a morning person 🤣
YAY for getting your dexcom 🥳 Just got restocked here too, 2 months of dexcom/cartridges but both sensors for dexcom and 3 months of cartridges (on tslim cause my life depends on that Control-IQ), in Texas so hit my full out-of-pocket deductible so gonna be luckily of only 20% of costs for rest of the year woot 🤩 But it's a rule here that they have to reach out to ur endo every 6 months to get confirmation that you are continuing to see them to get ur supplies- used to 1 a year but changed...and that includes for your insulin prescription...cause ya know, my pancreas might decide not to be worthless one day 😒
Hey! I also use tslim and dexcom, makes me happy to see another fellow diabetic that uses the same technology!!! Love from Virginia!
Long time type 2 diabetic here. I really enjoy your content. I use Freestyle Libre 14 day sensors. Can relate to all your diabetes concerns!
I don't have diabetes, but one of my kitties does. Maybe it's silly, but I feel like I can do a better job watching for symptoms from what you've mentioned in your videos. :)
I also have a diabetic kitty! He's an old man now but with his poke every time he eats he's been able to live a long happy life (:
Yay!! I’m thankful that you have your dexcoms

Omg first here. And first like. I’m so glad I found u to learn more about diabetes I’m not diabetic but it’s great to learn about just in case
You are such a joy, love your attitude.
As a fellow struggling with chronic illness, thanks so much for the subtitles!
i absolutely love ur vids and ur amazing. i am young and i’m only t1d a year and it was really hard but you’ve really helped
I’ve been watching a lot of your vids because i have some symptoms of Type 2 and i have family with type 1. Your vids are so helpful!
I have Diabetes too and like i said you are not alone mary and I really started to love your videos

The scale I have always used is to stay in between 4-10!! 😁 A perfect number for me would be 6.0 👌🏼
I’m also in the US, where can I help with the legislation to have access to cgm’s?
In Canada a normal person is somewhere around 6 to 8.
In Canada anything below 4 is considered a critical low and you need fast acting sugar.
Below 3 you are at risk of passing out, though my daughter and some others I know have been just above 1 and still walking.

Can you do a vid on being diabetic on the Canadian healthcare system. I always thought Canada was like the the UK/NHS not the US but you made several comments on coverage/insurance and how much stuff costs. For me in the UK everything is just free and it is for all diabetics.
Some areas in the uk don’t fund cgm unless it is perceived as needed for hypo awareness but most areas supply everything
Yes definitely!! I will do that soon when I find out my coverage for the rest of my supplies too! 😁
@@hilder4168 This used to be the case but it changed. The most recent info from the BNF(the document the NHS uses to inform treatment) says ALL type 1 diabetics should be offered a CGM/flash. Getting a pump can still be difficult though.
Oh cool good to see that change
Yaaay you got a dex com
I use a dexcom and don’t have a high alarm set but I also don’t use a insulin pump.
I just found your channel and love your videos. As far as I know I do not have diabetes however my mom has it and is on insulin and both my grandmother and my grandfather are diabetic and have to test and have insulin on hand but don't have to take to often but my mom is multiple times a day. I had to learn how to Check her sugars and give her insulin incase she went in a low after one time she did and I didn't know what to do and had to call 911 this the dexcom would have been amazing for her to have I told her about it now
I don't have diabetes but your videos are the beat I don't know why. and when are you going to post?
I have a similar situation with my add medicine. Every year I have to get authorization for it.
you are amazing absolute hillarious love you
For the lips I sometimes get cheilitis. Keeping your lips dry will help out. Just a possibility!
My son loves his Dexcom!
Same! Favourite CGM I have tried!! 😁
Lol ur me omg I had the same problem use face oil and beez wax chapstick or coconut oil 🥥
GREAT VIDEOOO 🎅🏻
I don't have diabetes myself but my friend does anyway I love your videos
I feel you I've had many a day of no dexcom
The lip thing could be because you're having highs. When my blood sugars are higher my skin EVERYWHERE is dry and I get like little bumps around my eyes and lips
I have the G7 and I love it!
I have Diabetes so I might get a Dexcom G6 or Omnipod 5
Ive been having lip reactions too but cant figure out why! It hurts so much!
Wow, what a thing to run out of CGM sensors and get low on strips.
There was a cutoff of coverage at 21 (like you are now healed)
Only 2/3 of insulin is covered (about $150 a vial).
How do you get your dexcom app screen to change color. I like the pink screen.
Hi, I am a diabetic and I got diagnosed at 10 Which was last year
Strips are cheap on amazon x
I have problems waking up and I have type 1 too so it's not just u
I'm new to using Dexcom and I changed it yesterday I must of hit a blood vessel or something because loads of blood come squirting out lol
I don’t have diabetes but have worked with my mom and before I became a sahm I worked I’m the hospital.
