  • We visited Elmsbrook, the UK's first eco town, with highly sustainable, passivhaus standard buildings and homes. This is a pioneering development with 400 highly energy efficient homes, creating one of the UK's first truly zero carbon communities.
    Solar Panels are positioned on the roof of every home, and once this project is completed, it will be the UK’s largest residential solar array.
    40% of this development, is green space with lots of wild areas to encourage biodiversity.
    None of the waste from these homes goes to landfill. This reduces 30% of the project’s carbon footprint.
    With cycle and pedestrian routes, a bus stop within 400 metres of every home, live timetable updates in each home, charging points for electric vehicles and an electric car club, residents are being encouraged to adopt more sustainable modes of travel.
    The developer of this scheme is A2Dominion Housing Group.
    This project is located in Bicester, Oxfordshire. Find out more here: www.bioregional.com/projects-...

    God I love the co-working space! Just such an awesome idea to create community!

    • @PatrickBulteel
      @PatrickBulteel Год назад +1

      One of the things that isn't really mentioned in the video is that the community itself is very friendly and we have activities and events where we're all invited to participate. Some are done by a company, and others are done by the community members. (Like our Friday café's) There's a local primary and some events take place there. I really love living here and I hope it stays that way.

    Great project for the 1% the 99% of working class citizens are priced out of this market for purchase and rental! However i support this kind of development!

    Great video on net zero communities! An idea to consider could be a biogas sewage system. It could turn waste into energy, further enhancing sustainability. Also, a grey water system would recycle water, reducing waste even more.
    One more idea you could incorporate is embedding piezoelectric materials in community pathways? People's footsteps could generate electricity, turning daily walks into a sustainable energy source!

      It’s fairly new, although not lien BedZED I believe this surburban area have tried to look as “normal” as possible without being unsustainable like the rest of the development

      I live here. Every house gets a tree planted in the backyard. Usually a 2-year-old apple or pear tree. There are multiple fruit trees around the estate as well as bushes for different berries. It's wild when you can start picking them. However, you're right in that there actually aren't that many trees. Partly that's due to many dying and not getting a new tree planted. It's something we're sorting out. Also, since the estate is relatively new, many trees haven't grown very big yet.

      @@PatrickBulteel Were any of the trees that died the ones along the street? Apparently street trees are most healthy when they have large dirt patches around them and especially when they're connected to eachother

    • @PatrickBulteel
      @PatrickBulteel 11 месяцев назад

      @@neonmajora8454 Yes, around the new construction areas (phase 3 and 4) the other phases are more "established" and the trees seem healthier and are growing well. Thanks for the pointer on large patches of dirts. I'll have to take a look and see how much "dirt" is around the trees.

    But i got an off question, do you guys hire architects by any chance to do a sustainable project or is it documentation based information?

    Having googled the location.
    It’s ONLY accessible by car.
    To get to schools you have to drive.
    To get to shops you have to drive.
    The most eco friendly town is one where you don’t need a car!!

    • @PatrickBulteel

      There are some that are social housing, some that are rented, but I think most of them are privately owned. And yes, they ALL have solar panels, rainwater harvesting (some people have issues with this) and are triple-glazed, etc.
