Love that you did this game. It holds a special place in my heart as it was the only SNES game I had for 2 years when I was a kid. My friend and I would make up characters and play in the woods by his house pretending we were a Paladin or Dragoon or Lunarian depending and having all these convoluted plots involving Golbez or whoever. Thanks for the amount of workk you put into your videos. With so many turning to streaming because of the relatively smaller effort it takes to engage with larger dividends, this type of long form exploration and curated experience of a game with so much time and editing is hard to find nowadays.
It is the only SNES game I still have left from my childhood and the only thing I have left from my mother that died in 95. Sucks my save battery finally just ate it. Had saves on there for who knows how long. I replaced it of course.
@@AClockworkHellcatI have. After reading my comment I realize that it kind of reads that way. I've beaten this game many times, but I still will learn so many things from this video series.
I remember my brother bringing FF4 home from work prior to its release to learn the game. He was a GPC at Nintendo for 7 years from 1989 to 1996. So many awesome gaming memories!
This is one of my most cherished games as a kid- Me and my brothers gathered around and named all of the characters and were playing our parts. Cecil was me, another was Yang, and my prodigal brother was Kain (ironic)! At my age (around 10-11) the simplistic translation was perfect storytelling, and stuck with me for decades. Thanks for this experience!
It's amazing you managed to cramp most of the Paladin route in a single video, thank you very much UCBVG! Looking forward to what could possibly be the finale, that's gonna be awesome! ✌🏼
A few minor things you missed: -When Palom and Porom leave your party, the Elder of Mysidia has new dialogue. He also has new dialogue when Tellah dies. -When you return to Toroia, you can have another conversation with Edward. He has new dialogue when Tellah dies, and when Yang leaves the party.

This game's Boss Battle Music is still among my fav of the Final Fantasy Series, and there's so many BGMs in this game that deserve to be Audio Legends...
I always found this game very fascinating. So many different things to do. So many different places to go. So many different people coming and going in your party. And I always loved the music in this game too.
Thank you. This has brought back so many memories. This is my favorite game of this era. I am playing FF6 and it is so much more convoluted and a slog to get through. FF4 is the greatest.
I would definitely agree with that description. Chrono Trigger has "almost" as much nostalgia as FF IV and Dragon Warrior 1-4 but I think it's still in that 3rd place spot. While I thought CT and FF VI are objectively the better and far more spectacular games, they will always sit in the 3rd & 4th place spots behind FF IV & DW 1-4.
I have been a staunch defender of FF4 for actual decades now, and I have always said that the thing FF4 does absolutely best, is that it has excellent pacing. I can't start a New Game without ending up at Mount Ordeals before I even realize how long I've been playing. And then next thing I know, I'm fighting the Dark Elf at the Metallic Cave, and then before I even realize it, I'm in the Underworld. For me, at least, there's never a dull moment, and the game is very inviting and never super difficult or overwhelming. Excellent flow from one plotpoint to the next, especially if you've never played it before and want to know what happens next.
Easily my favorite FF game. I remember renting this one and 3/6 from the local video store. I never could get into 6, but got absolutely hooked on this one. I play it often. When the Pixel Remasters came to console, this is the first one I played and made sure to get the Plat on it since I knew where everything was to begin with.
I played FF6 and see how it's good, but I never made it all the way through... I couldn't resist grinding all the Esper Spells onto every Character and the Grind became too much for me... I burned out... 💀
I agree I am currently playing T edition... It feels like a puzzle sometimes, with only one or two different ways to do things , then you don't even know who to actually invest in or not because of the weird way everyone joins back up. Its cool having to use everyone, but like, the second half of the game they take your ability to reliably recover MP from you through Cyan, and no Osmose in T edition.. its made World of Ruin Literally a slog. And not in a good way, like new threat mod for ff7 im like happy to grind away on that. The way to go, with ff6 is hit lvl 99 when baron joins the party and say fuck it to progression. But dude I just recently downloaded Ff4 Ultima, holy shit?!! Its like classic FF, feels like an adventure , the story has me GRIPPED i love the beginning so much just shit gets so real so fast. Ff6 and FF7 feel too much like romance novels...
I remember when I first saw this game on the shelf, I had no idea a “2nd” final fantasy game was even released, and how enchanting it was when I finally played the game. Thank you for doing this game, I’m sure this is a massive project, but these episodes are absolute perfection. Keep them coming!
“I’d wear a sequined ball gown into battle if it gave me plus ten to wisdom!” Totally, my friend! I was really looking forward to seeing this one, thanks for your dedication and wit.
After watching Part 1, I went and found a place online to replay Final Fantasy II. In the time between uploads I completed the game, using all your tricks from part 1. It was such a fun nostalgia trip, I played this originally at my friend’s house when I was about 8 years old, we renamed all the characters to our friends and we all knew the game’s story. Thanks for making this series, even though I already beat the game, I still watched part 2 and will watch every other part you make! You rock!!
Just to reiterate what I said on the previous video -- Besides Dragon Warrior 1-4 on the NES would be my "all time favorite" Role Playing Game, regardless if there are better ones that followed. The Nostalgia hits much deeper for some reason than those that followed. On another note, I was not "expecting" this to be released for at least two more weeks so I'll be hitting this one up after my nephew's B-day party! It's unfortunate that even with all the re-releases they still have no idea about awesome games such as this.
Great series man! It brings back so many memories. When you do get to the finale at the moon please PLEASE play the whole ending. Can't wait for the next one.
So many good memories of this game. Played through many many times since getting it for Christmas the year it was released. A true centerpiece of my collection. Thanks for playing it and making this great video!

Sweet! I’ve been waiting for this one. I can’t wait till you do 6! I might have to replay this… I didn’t know about the Mist skip. Can’t wait to see what I didn’t know about in this follow up video
Amazing how Rey is looking bigger than Kylo!!! Also gotta love the subtle differences on their fur color. Wow we are on a very long ride for the second and final part is this great game!! With beer in hand and some pop corn, time to enjoy the show! Edit: spoiler alert!! It wasn’t the final part xd
In the original Japanese, it was obvious that that "Cafe" in Toroia was actually a brothel. That guy said that things are expensive up here, and guys talked about who their favorite courtesan was. That's why the the scene with the older female NPC asking where her husband was was so funny. It was censored in the English translation. If you're using metal equipment in the magnetic cave, you can't run away from battles. Your characters are just permanently paralyzed, and it's an instant game over.
I'd love this too... I'm a fan of the game even if it wasn't perfect, I think it's really underrated. Also, I like Kaeli and Phoebe. :D Tristam was a jerk though. :P Spoiler Alert: The Final Boss for reasons unknown gets the ever living hell kicked outta him by Curative Magic. ;P Also after ya get the Final Claw, since changing Weapons is a Free Action in that game and the final Claw gives +5 Magic, it tended to always be a good idea to switch to the Claw before casting Spells. ... I think that's it for good Tips in that game I know of, and the first one I didn't even find out myself... just heard a rumor on it and tried it and it turned out to actually be true, unlike typical standard issue rumors.
Great job overall! For the next portions with Edge, be sure to take advantage of Yang’s claws’ elemental/class weaknesses. Machine enemies fall fast to Thunder claw. Ogre type enemies fall fast to Charm claw. This tip makes Edge a powerhouse.
I really love these long multi-part ones. I'd really love to see Earthbound get the UCBVG treatment. But RPGs like this are hard to find someone to go through at this level of detail. Yes, I like to see the shortcut, but also show me the long cut and every cut in between! You always do a great job covering the whole thing in all its glory. I love seeing each dialog change from each NPC. It's really nail on the head, exactly the kind of content I want from watching a playthrough!
Everything about Rydia's return is perfect: the summon, the aging up, the music switch, all of it. I can't describe how jazzed 10 year old me was when that happened and i saw it for the first time.
I remember getting stuck on the Magus Sisters on my very first playthrough. It took me forever to figure out how to kill Cindy without getting killed myself. It was such an annoying fight, especially since Tella is so limited by his MP. But still not as annoying as the Demon Wall boss
Another beautiful video. The only thing I didn't see really covered was the fact that you can gain some fairly fast levels around Agart at any point before you go underground. Agart has enemies that you'll see in the Towel of Bab-il and some unique ones, but with the airship to take you to Baron, or the 50 gil inn at Agart, it's a great way to get a few early levels, and they can drop some rare/expensive items, including the Silver gear you can get in Silvero.
"Peeping doesn't seem like a very paladin thing to do..." First 5 minutes and you had me laughing already! Thanks for doing these older game playthroughs.
I love your videos! Your humour and knowledge is awesome, and perfect to study to or fall asleep to! Also learning new stuff about some of my favorite games ever! Keep it up :D
Honestly, nothing i don't know so far (i've played this game so many times) but I'm enjoying this video for the narration, worth watching just for that alone! GOOD JOB as always
2:55:36 I wonder if the magma key thing was inspired by the way you open the path to Baramos Castle in Dragon Quest III. 2:56:34 Okay this section is definitely inspired by the part where your airship is destroyed back in Final Fantasy III, when you stand between the armies.
To anyone wondering why he's spending Tellah's MP to heal, it is because it's more efficient, you would run out of MP with Cecil anyway and do less healing, Cecil is a 90MP buffer at most, which is more than what he's using to heal anyway.
58:10 that's what I remember also.. there was even a song by mc Chris (Fett's vette) that used that exact line.. trash compactors .. it says garbage mashers which sounds wrong ... Weird
For me, FF VI was the last one I actually finished. I don't see this talked about much but the only one that looked halfway interesting to me was Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin. I don't know if the story is actually any good, but I think it's a brilliant idea to show the back stories of all the interesting antagonists of each game. Hell...they could even combine and intertwine them somehow if they chose to considering there's still 15 of them left. I have no idea how they'd accomplish this, but I'm sure they'd figure out a way and that would probably sell MUCH better than all of these ridiculous cash grabs and remakes.
If you haven't watched this yet don't read... But I almost cried when the statues saved everyone from the walls that were closing in I hope they are ok
@3:06:00 Assuming you did not modify Kain in any way since you got him back in the Tower of Zot, quickly issue everyone's commands as fast as possible until Kain's command comes up. tell him to jump *IMMEDIATELY* and as soon as possible. If done right, HoldGas will hit the party while Kain is in the air. He will land after Hold Gas, but since he's not paralyzed, the dragon that Golbez summons won't kill Kain (it will use its spell twice on someone else instead). That way, you'll have an extra person to help heal and recover the party once Rydia shows up. This makes that fight *WAY* easier! But it only works if you do not have Kain gain any levels, nor change his equipment. If you do, he will either not jump before Hold Gas, or he will land before Hold Gas goes off.
Im doing a play with this game a rom hack for it called Ultima and my god it is a blast. I find this walkthrough still to be generally helpful too, even with all the wonderful changes
Fun fact: Tellah's stats actually go DOWN at level up. I usually KO him so other characters get more experience points. He's not that useful IMHO even when he learns his new set of spells at Mt. Ordeals.
I am disappointed you used an Ether mere feet from the save point, haha. Also surprised you didn't make Cecil heal in the Magnus Cave and the Tower of Zot. I also loved how the Doctor and the Nurse simply stood there and watched instead of helping him get to his harp or bringing the harp to him. "The way he can get above the rim is insane." LOL Honestly, I played this game as a kid and really didn't understand the Kain/Cecil/Rosa love triangle. In retrospect, it's similar to Goku/Vegeta's rivalry, especially in the Majin Bu saga. Want to travel to the moon? NASA hates this one trick.
Now that you have Edge in the party, you might want to try the weapon multiplication trick, where you go into battle, open items, select an empty slot, then go up to the equipped items, unequip a weapon, then finish or run away from the fight. Then anything you equip in that hand will double. you can stock up on Excaliburs before the final boss and really make that encounter easy that way. It also saves you a lot of money on shields and so on if you have stuff that can be equipped by multiple characters across the game if you're ok exploiting that bug.
Another technique you may have wanted to touch on was using the Earth Hammer's Quake ability against the Magus Sisters with Cid. No need to worry about Reflect or Split Damage, plus it attacks all of them.
Cid can be very effective with a bow and arrows. I generally find it more usefull on bosses where you can exploit their weaknesses. The great bow + holy arrows will do slightly more dmg on dark elf/dark dragon than the silver wrench and he can make great use of the 10 mute arrows you get in eblan castle to wreck the magus sisters. Great video as always.
UCBVG: You actually CAN see the Tower of Zot on the map, it sticks up out of the ground northwest of Eblan Castle in the black area in the middle of the mountains, the most notable time you see it is the giant sequence late in the game (avoiding spoilers). The Tower of Zot *IS* the Tower of Babil, it's just the overworld part of it that sticks above the ground, presumably overworleders named it the Tower of Zot, not realizing it connected to the underworld, and was properly named the Tower of Babil.
My go to in Mount Ordeals is Palom. I enjoy using his black magic. The only problem is constantly using tents which only recover 100MP each. But it works.
Love that you did this game. It holds a special place in my heart as it was the only SNES game I had for 2 years when I was a kid. Honestly, nothing i don't know so far (i've played this game so many times) but I'm enjoying this video for the narration, worth watching just for that alone! GOOD JOB as always
2:33:25 Sent my friend off to die a noble, yet naked death. Lol
58:36 I think this is the first time I got teary due to a video game.
Same here
After 10 years of being in storage, my FF2 , and FF3(6) save files were still there! Good memories
Patiently waiting for part 3! Love your videos.
Thank you so much for all your work and effort.
I could never play this game on my own, but in this way I can experience it too.
2:55:36 I wonder if the magma key thing was inspired by the way you open the path to Baramos Castle in Dragon Quest III.
2:56:34 Okay this section is definitely inspired by the part where your airship is destroyed back in Final Fantasy III, when you stand between the armies.
I am SO LOOKING FORWARD to this! Gonna play the Pixel Master version soon so the stars are nicely aligned
To anyone wondering why he's spending Tellah's MP to heal, it is because it's more efficient, you would run out of MP with Cecil anyway and do less healing, Cecil is a 90MP buffer at most, which is more than what he's using to heal anyway.
My First FF on SNES. ♥️
I hope you do Final Fantasy 3 on the SNES some day
58:10 that's what I remember also.. there was even a song by mc Chris (Fett's vette) that used that exact line.. trash compactors .. it says garbage mashers which sounds wrong ... Weird
Greetings from the BIG SKY. FF I was my experience. I always looked at Final Fantasy as final. 16 versions later, it's still going.
About all the party members in 1 bed:
See: Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.
Could you imagine the smell of that bed
I laughed way too hard at the Mysidia Mos Eisley joke. Well done sir.
Eagerly awaiting part 3. Dont keep us waiting too long.
Ordeals.
Thanks for covering this game
I’ve been patiently waiting for the next chapter in the Final Fantasy II(IV) play through
I am disappointed you used an Ether mere feet from the save point, haha.
Also surprised you didn't make Cecil heal in the Magnus Cave and the Tower of Zot.
I also loved how the Doctor and the Nurse simply stood there and watched instead of helping him get to his harp or bringing the harp to him.
"The way he can get above the rim is insane." LOL
Honestly, I played this game as a kid and really didn't understand the Kain/Cecil/Rosa love triangle.
I actually enjoy grinding these old school games. It's like meditation.
I can finally stop refreshing your page! Thanks for the all the great videos.
The best intro game to jrpgs imo❤
Glad you did this FF but I’d love to see you tackle Pool of Radiance someday too!
My go to in Mount Ordeals is Palom. I enjoy using his black magic. The only problem is constantly using tents which only recover 100MP each. But it works.
