As a law student, $700k is...a bit much, even if you consider the combined debt of going to undergrad and then going to law school (law school generally costs around $250k if you finish in three years (It's around $35k a semester, $70-80k per year; most students finish in 3-4 years, but as long as you finish within 7 years, you're good.), although if you take longer, it'll cost more, and if you had to take on debt for undergrad, that also adds to the cost). I'm surprised that Miles doesn't have his debts paid off, though; prosecutors are one of the higher paying jobs in the legal field (especially compared to being a criminal defense attorney or public defender). Phoenix, meanwhile, definitely sleeps in his office because he can't afford to rent an apartment, especially since he seems to work pro bono a *lot* in the series.
