      I just found out that my aunt lost her home in this, but she and my uncle went to the cellar before it passed over, and are safe. I imagine the other person either didn't have the option, or maybe they had some other impairment(s) that made it difficult to seek shelter in time. Even without additional deaths, the destruction alone is enough to warrant calling this a disaster

    I fly pipeline patrols for a living. I was in Ardmore, OK when all those tornadoes went through last week. I flew over Marietta, Ardmore, and Sulpher, OK after the tornadoes a week ago and it was really bad. It was especially devastating in Sulphur. This looks worse.
    Barnsdall is one of our major pipeline hubs. There were no doubt a lot of hard working pipeline employees and their families that are affected by this.

    • @-108-
      @-108- 12 дней назад

      @@-108- The operators that work for the pipeline companies are those that I interact with regularly. So even though I’m definitely concerned for everyone, it hits pretty close to home because I know several of them.
      The team was on the ground in Barnsdall this morning conducting damage assessments. I found out that fortunately none of them in particular were hurt, but the area is really, really bad. It’s gut wrenching for the community.

    The losses over the past week in the Midwest for these people..... I live in N CA . From 2017-2021 we had HUGE fires that destroyed whole communities.
    The pics are one thing, when you live loss of life, communities, friendships, family networks, memories in a home, schools; more is lost than just houses. It's horrible.
    The PTSD will be rampant. People need help.
    I also sent to Ryan Hall y'all's charity. He gets it, his team knows what is needed on the ground right away.
    It takes years to process and "recover."

    Living in Tornado Alley and you always see either home destroyed or completely missing from the property, rarely do you see a basement entrance or storm shelter entrance. I noticed this when Moore got removed. Housing pads completely cleaned of the house but no basement.

    • @sunstripe85
      @sunstripe85 12 дней назад +3

      Yeah unfortunately in most places they can't do basement or underground living due to the ground underneath them 😞 it's either too hard or too unstable in a lot of places that really need it, and then the places that can have them for some reason weren't all built with them. It's a weird thing. Like how in MN where it's cold AF half of every year, it's a luxury to have a fireplace at all (let alone a working one) yet in Texas where it's far more rare to get cold as often and longterm, it seems to be a default expectation to have at least one if not more working fireplaces. If there isn't a way to build underground for the home itself I hope more and more places are able to get reliable storm shelters either above ground like Ryan has or below ground, and hopefully they can be shared among many people by being big enough to help multiple families. If it's not already required by code for the city or someone to provide viable shelter or to help fund the building of storm shelters within each town then it really should be in those areas. It's way too dangerous not to do that... But I don't live there so I don't know all of the info I guess

      Oklahoma's clay rich soil expands and puts pressure on basement walls leading to failure. The water table is high, which presents other issues. It is very expensive to overcome these problems. That's why there are so few homes with basements in Oklahoma.

    • @fairyspunfibers9098
      @fairyspunfibers9098 12 дней назад +6

      The clay soil is a big NOPE on underground homes, BUT...maybe bermed homes? Blown, stabilized concrete walls, then bermed... might be a good alternative.

    • @melissaarispe1551

      You build dome shaped homes that withstand extremely high winds .They are also cheaper to build.

      In Oklahoma that’s very seldom possible. Our bedrock is very shallow. No room for a basement. Shelters are our best bet. Starting planning today!

    Shocking. here in Australia we have construction regulations in the tropics that are cyclone standard design and materials. I know the tracks of these things are not predictable and a lot more concentrated in the intense, but construction designs when rebuilding might save some lives and treasure.

    The power is incredible...hard to fathom. Storm shelters need to be built/provided in all areas where the risks are high. Whether in new construction or existing homes, schools, businesses.

    "If even _one_ well-constructed single-family dwelling is reduced to a pile of rubble on the foundation, then the tornado is classified as EF4." I saw at _least_ two homes reduced to rubble on their foundations. I have no reason to believe that that these homes were not "well constructed". I believe the tornado was an EF4.
    "If even _one_ well-constructed single-family dwelling, has lost all or most outer walls and roof, but the inner walls are still extant (me: more or less), then the tornado is classified as EF3." I saw a LOT of EF3 damage to boot.
    Also extensive bark stripping and main trunks of large trees snapped.

      That may or may not be significant. If the house was not properly anchored to the foundation, and/or not constructed according to code, then it may not be a big deal.🤔I just hope that everyone who may have taken shelter in that house survived without life-altering injuries.🙏

      Could be high end EF3 or an EF4. I don't see something that warrants an F5 here yet. But we don't have accese to the building codes so it's hard to say.

    Scary how garentied u will be hit is 50/50 on the great plains. You build your life on a plot of land and -- count yourself lucky with each passing front u are spared.
    Also just thinking every time the forecasters forcast a risk out look and 100 % of the time someone somewhere is going to loose a home even in a slight risk*.
    Also to note how many storm chasers were thinking it was going to be kinda a bust yesterday late afternoon and then ---- boom huge wedge destroys half a moderate size town-- quite scary .
