5:28 "The Chick Fil A still looks good!"
"... The what?"
"Chick Fil A, my favorite restaurant."
That was way too funny.
You probably need those lighter moments after viewing so much devastation.
I've probably watched every tornado video on RUclips, some multiple times. In spite of that, I'm still awestruck every time I watch one. The amount of energy these events release, focused into such a small area, is almost impossible to comprehend from our human scale perspective. The trail gouged out of the earth at the epicenter is a frightening sight.
History repeats in Kentucky 😞
I'd just like to point out that, at 7:15, the ruts behind the combine in the field are indicative of it being dragged across the ground.
Moved it a good 150 feet maybe 200
That's a quaint idea but extremely unlikely. For one thing, the tracks go in the wrong direction :) Whatever it is, was being driven.
yet the houses just next to it to the left are 95% in tact. weird
@@ultrametric9317 the tracks where not in the wrong direction.🤣🤣🤣🤣
no shi einstein.
If you pause it at 9:16, look in the lower left corner, that used to be a 7-Eleven gas station. 4 people lost their lives there and looking at it you can see why, absolutely flattened. RIP
Guerro Peuto oh man, really? Makes it even harder to look at knowing people lost their lives in there. RIP
That circle in front is eerie.
Guerro Peuto I thought that’s the one where they were all safe in the beer cooler
Tim Hebert that was a Fast Trip gas station
That debris has been cleared away to search for people, it didn't look like that right after the storm.
Amazing how some houses are untouched in a devastated area.
That has always baffled me. I knew of someone whose entire neighborhood was demolished in Super Outbreak 2011. He hid in his basement and then came out when he heard a knock. Not only was his home the only untouched house on the block, his welcome sign and mailbox with a decorative rooster on top of it were perfectly in place. He cried in pain, wondering why he and his property had been spared and the people whom he loved around him had lost everything (in some cases, their lives). He said: "I'll just never understand."
@@joygrace7924 that's the bias of a multi vortex tornado for you!
That’s what Multi Vortex tornadoes do!
@@byronkelly4374 Bias? I highly doubt that. These monsters has no emotion. They can skip your house one cycle and on the next demolish it completely.
I saw someone explain once, that’s because tornadoes have multiple vortices within them. Sometimes they hit certain houses but skip the ones just behind them. Crazy!
You hear about the destruction but this really brought it home for me. I've been a firefighter for 21 years and have never seen anything on this scale. Horrible.
That's the sacrifice people make living in these areas. I moved to Dallas and tornado sirens scare tf outta me. We had the costliest tornado in Texas hit Dallas in 2019, right through dense neighborhoods. No one died though. 😅
"This tornado was brought to you by Home Depot"
Lol
For those who ask in a condemning way, why people build there, it's because the land offers a good quality of life and is highly productive. No place anywhere in the world is safe from a natural disaster. You can live in a region with a 200 year safety record and it can all crumble down in a minute a storm of a century, or one in 200 year earthquake strikes.
Scott said the odds were low. Well I got wiped out on May 3, 1999 and again on May 20, 2013 and a week later again. I guess I beat the odds!
John Landis what
Lol. I might just move to Moore, Oklahoma. Seems like a nice place.
You weren't hit by El Reno, stop lying
Marko Šušković el Reno was may 31, 2013
.......maybe you should take the hint and move TF out of the OKC area
That tornado was an absolute monster. There is some incredible footage of it on RUclips
Yes I watched it. I can not imagine what the huge one in Kentucky looked like.
Assuming that dirt path was the center of the tornado scouring the ground... the size of the debri cloud is incredible, and what kind of damage it did roughly a mile from the center. It's also crazy how one house can be completely destroyed with houses next to it looking totally fine, im sure they had minor damage but nothing remotely close to the houses that were demolished.
over 1,200 leveled but around 12,000 damaged
You couldn't put more houses in front of a tornado, Holy sht.
You should of build a house made out of concrete and cement and fat walls and thats it.
ToyotaSupraFan1234 still wouldn’t stand much of a chance against a tornado of that magnitude. I live in Moore and saw that damage
That is what concerns me with where I mostly grew up in the Atlanta area. Other than a few random tornadoes, there has never been a full fledged outbreak of tornadoes in the region, which is covered in quickly built subdivisions without tornado wind risk considered in the building. That combined with people that tend to send death threats to our Mets if a tornado warning breaks into their favorite show or sporting event.
People of Moore should start building their houses underground
At 9:14 you can see the parking lot of a 7-Eleven with gas island that was obliterated, killing 3 inside with 4 critically injured. That anyone survived is a staggering miracle. The parking lot can be seen at the bottom of the frame and moves off to the left corner and out of view. It's the SW corner of 4th and Telephone in Moore. You can get a view on Google Earth's historical imagery for 5/2013. There is a nearly circular ring of debris indicating the store more or less exploded from the sudden pressure difference. This was near the end of the most destructive phase of the tornado and it had begun to skip along, sparing nearby buildings. The building directly across the street suffered only detached tar paper and shingle. Maybe construction standards for convenience stores need to be reviewed.
When I watch the videos of suburbs, etc. being hit by these huge tornadoes I don't wonder that people were killed, but that so few were killed. Thank God for modern technology that's giving better warnings and direction during these tragic events.
Is it okay if I use part of this video for a school project?
Moore Medical Center is center of the shot at 9:10. Plaza Towers Elementary is at upper center at 9:56 (look for the shape of the driveway and compare to Google Maps satellite shot). Briarwood Elementary is at upper center of the shot at 10:57. In all three instances the view is toward the south/southeast.
Some great footage of completely uneffected areas. Home Depot REALLY!
I was done when he brought up the fact that Chick-Fil-A was still standing, SMH. We were standing but heavily damaged. Finally was able to repair & sell last month. It was scary though & shocking to see empty foundations next to houses that were still standing!
Thats what was thinking
unbelievable thanks for the video
It amazing how one house can have damage by the twister while next door there isn't any damage
what a horrible sight
my thoughts are with all the victims
9:17 A video taken by one of the first people to reach the hospital showed "boulders" in the field across the street that are actually car engines packed with dirt and grass. And full-size manhole covers missing from the sidewalk.
maybe they should build the homes underground instead?
I just moved to Moore between 27th and 12th Street just on the east of i-35 right off Broadway, how close did it get to there? Pretty close right within a mile I think .
Yes. It tracked just south of 12th street.
Wow, This really shows you how powerful a tornado can really be, it’s incredible to see well constructed brick and concrete masonry homes damaged which would be expected but you can’t even classify those homes as damaged since there literally completely destroyed. I couldn’t imagine being in the path of this kind of tornado. It’s just devastating that it took the worst possible path destroying two occupied elementary schools and the hospital along with the thousands of homes. I really Hope there all doing better there.
History repeats. Tornado in Kentucky. 😲😞
My house was spared, thankfully. Mostly cause it's in California.
😂🤣😂
I would imagine many of these people moved and never came back
Moore's population has increased.
The carnage is unreal, seeing it from a birds eye view really puts it into perspective
Wow... The destruction makes it look like a war zone...
People keep complaining about seeing some unaffected areas...I don't know if they're blind or just stupid but at least I can see the direct path that the tornado took. A tornado debris field won't fuck up an entire town. It will fuck up a lot of it but not every single building will be touched as bad as others which is a phenomenon that you see in videos like these. You can see a street with nothing but debris toppled up in foundations on each side then a few blocks over you'll find nearly complete structures standing look like they just went through a bad wind storm. Again, you can clearly see the path of destruction where the tornado came through the city especially the residential parts.
When you see the extent of the devastation and how there are entire neighborhoods wiped clean down to the foundations, it's amazing so few people died. It shows you just how skilled the people of Moore are when it comes to Tornado preparation and response. If this happened somewhere out east where they don't get Tornados often I think the death toll would have been much higher.
It did... It's called Joplin, Missouri.
We get them in georgia often as well as hurricanes
Idk, had an F4 in Hamden, CT 30 years ago no deaths.
I walk through this neighborhood on the day it struck. I was trying to get to my parents' house just north of here. (134th and Santa Fe for those in the know) The devastation was insane. I avoided going to the school (Briarwood Elementary) because I knew I'd lose it if I had to pull a kid out of the rubble. I did stop and help several families dig free of their homes. I've lived in Oklahoma for a good portion of my life and have seen my share of tornadoes, including the May 3rd one that took my parents' other house. This one affected me worse than any other.
Where on this video did the other Moore tornado cross this path?
I could see my house near briarwood school at 4:08. Wasn’t living here at the time. But the doors and windows were blown out with roof damage. Crazy shit.
Its just a question.
Why don't you build concrete or brick house?
Debris from trees cars etc would damage the concrete anyway and soil shifting from moisture changes from wet to dry seasons could possibly lessen their strength. A number of new homes and some older ones have concrete and metal safe rooms which have advantages over storm cellars installed in ground or the garage.
8:45 Rubberneckers as far as the eye can see.
4:10 is where i saw the reporters talking to some of the survivors. it looked like the more open area where a lot of houses were destroyed
theres also 9:40
with this being the second f5 to hit moore, im sure they got nervous when the el rino tornado hit.
*3rd
Yep, and that’s why a lot of people tried to evacuate the area when the El Reno tornado hit, clogging up the highways. If the tornado had maintained strength and gone over one of those highways, the death toll wouldn’t have been 8, it would have been in the hundreds.
@@austinmccoy9743 wow! That was dangerous. You can’t outrun a tornado
@@mssha1980 Well, you can, but ONLY if you know what you are doing. Crowded freeways, packed with panicked people trying to get away, deadlocked from the number of cars... much better to shelter in place.
Why El Reno is at least 20-25 miles NW of Moore.
Nature is neither benevolent nor malevolent; it simply is. That mankind benefits from the sun, rain and wind and is harmed by the same elements is purely a coincidence without any intent on the forces surrounding us.
Major damage is at the top of the picture and often out of the picture.
Yea this video sucks
@Hundredth Percentile don't be a butthurt little bitch
@5:30 "Well the chick a filet looks good my favorite restaurant" thank god it didn't take out the chick a filet huhh
Even God doesn't want chick filet
I'm sure the owners , who are Christians were truly thanking God .
Amazing to see the tire marks on the grass, that happened when the vehicle were picked up and then landed.
Crazy is feeling/ hearing the cars & houses being tossed, IT WAS TERRIFYING! Never knew wind was capable of such things, SMH!
Worse! Even the suction of the winds had a unique noise. We literally heard & felt houses, trucks, cars & debris being thrown. The walls began moving & there a thunderous roar that sounded like several freight trains. It lasted for what seemed to be forever, it lingered & then everything got quiet & still. We were lifted off foundation & dropped.
@@transparenteeinspiringwhil3475 Winds don't "Suck" they blow underneath anything they can get under and pick them up.
Plaza Towers Elementary destroyed with little ones inside. Heartbreaking.😥
Look at what happened to Kentucky.
How does the city look like in 2020?"
Moore has rebuilt.. but, we will never forget that day...
Rebuilt and expanded population increased as well.
People were on here saying they didn't show the damaged area but if you look they did show the majority of it unless you're blind you can't miss it.
See how far back the traffic is backed up @ 8:40 + really goes to show the true devastation of this storm. Sadly, many were just tourists
I cannot believe how wide of a wedge it was......
I thought the tornado was suppose to be a mile and a half wide. I guess I don't know what the means because the really destructive path looks relatively narrow.
the funnel may be that size, but the core ef4-ef5 winds have a very narrow area of effect. just take a look at phil campbell for example. the tornado was a miles wide wedge for most of it,s life. but in pictures of damage you can see just how narrow the core winds were!
Must have been terrifying omg such devastation!!
I have learned that in the beginning of a tornado, I'm going to jump into my above ground pool and hunker down. Cause it appears that even though the house is gone.... That pool is still there!
I know, right? 😲
at 7:02 you can clearly see EF-5 damage.. Completely clean foundations of well built, anchored wall homes. Even the flooring was removed !! Incredible.
The damage at those homes was actually rated EF4 because they were small wooden homes that were nailed, rather than bolted down. The EF5 rating was based on some bolted-down brick veneer homes that were swept away in a few areas areas throughout the city (especially behind Moore Medical Center), along with the complete destruction of Briarwood Elementary. The fact carried a 10-ton propane tank more than 1/2 a mile was also taken into consideration.
OHWX123 ....and you know this how?
Robert Sunderland
Ummm, because I read the damage survey conducted by tornado experts and engineers? It is available using NOAA's online damage assessment toolkit. Actually, Briarwood got downgraded to EF4 due to the fact that it was not properly reinforced with grout/rebar and many of the walls were not connected to the steel framework. The final assessment revealed that there were two EF5 homes behind Briarwood, four behind Moore Medical Center, one on Hunter's Glen Court, and two in eastern Moore.
Why are they so far the the actual tornadoes path?
The actual path became a temporary no-fly zone so medical/rescue choppers could navigate through, if needed.
The odds of a tornado actually hitting your house are pretty damn low. Also because you have to live somewhere if you work in the vicinity. Natural disasters happen everywhere. By your logic, nobody should live within 5 miles of any coastline, nobody should live in California because of earthquakes. It's just not reasonable, and although there is a risk living in some places, some people are willing to take those risks.
On point sir!!!☺
😟Tell that to Kentucky 🤷
That didn't look so bad! I saw one or two buildings that were still standing. That was extreme sarcasm, btw. Horrific scene.
Some of the complete devastation path is wide. This thing traveled raging hell for a long way. So many affected families and businesses
Were they purposely trying to NOT show the path of the tornado... for some unknown reason?
Show the dam path! Who cares about Home Depot, I’m sure they’ll be fine.
Chris Jacobs how about you watch the whole dang video instead of just watching 30 seconds of it
chopstick houses, people build houses from bricks
How many houses were destroyed ?
1600 had EF 4-5 damage and 13000 homes were affected
wow....amazing !
Man...peeled that grass up like a tractor
Do you own home depot stock? WTF?
11 years ago now ❤
That tornado could have at least cleaned up its mess
I know the mess really bugs me!!
It’s literally what my what my room looks like after my 5 year old cousin starts throwing a fucking tantrum because I didn’t let her in my room
Actually, the pilot did the right thing considering there was a flight restriction in certain areas to alleviate noise for search and crews still monitoring or looking for victims. 11:20 he makes mention. The angle and perspective they used was quite enough to give a perspective on the damage.
plus its a fucking black hawk its not some little news chopper.
Briarwood is behind the blue truck at 4:03.
Is this a plane or helicopter?
Did you just ask if an aircraft capable of standing in 1 place is a plane or helicopter?
@@re4796 i didnt JUST ask it, i asked it 7 years ago
@@gaguy1967 Fair enough
@Hundredth Percentile sadly notn
@Hundredth Percentile well yeah I wouldn't casually bring up a minor question someone said when they were like 9
what's up with all the bright lights shinning like stars on the ground?
Most likely temporary lights for working in the areas at night. no power out there. Powered by generators.
The big bright one was located at the site of the Plaza Towers Elementary School to aide in rescue and recovery. Some of the smaller bright lights were news crews (more noticeable west of the Regional Medical center and the
Warren theater.
the airspace was restricted you couldnt fly right over it only rescue helicopters
‘Chick fil a was spared!’
Got mit uns.
1999, 2003, now 2013 why on earth does anyone live here
There was actually one in 1998 2010 and 2015 also
It really makes me wonder, It seems like its deliberately being targeted for some reason.
Gotta jump down that rabbit hole, but its very strange.

Tomorrow may 22 will mark 13 years since the Joplin tornado 😢
Terrible camera work
I see the house I was in that got hit. Not fun.
Wow poor folks! How many died?

a least the chick fila made it
Crap camera work here. Terrible. Look for a sheet of tin in a green field while on the horizon is the large damage path in BROWN where 100's of homes and whole neighborhoods are completely gone....
Cal Crappie He couldn't fly there because Medical helicopters needed to go there first.
The camera person did as well as he could with the flight path of the chopper.
Waste of time. Cameraman is a complete moron.
I think they are doing other types of surveillance than just focusing on the most damaged area. This isn't for the news.
they seem to be talking about the commercial spaces to asses damage
I have more than 6 year's looking this videos and scary ... cause every time I see this I say ...y no body can do something yet??? Cause nothing is impossible...
SOUND CANNON it can send waves into tornado and destroy it;
fire whoever was running the camera..
4:06 That’s briarwood elementary
No school :)
I didnt really think abt that instead I was worried abt my family
so no more Moore, Oklahoma now or did these poor souls choose to stay and rebuild?
Rebuilt and expanding.
Looks like the tornado just sucked the grass out of the ground in some areas.
thats called ground scouring
No wonder our freaking insurance is so expensive.

Why are they so far from the actual path of destruction?
Couldn't concentrate long enough to film the damage
Absolutely disappointing video. This is a terrible flyover. If I didn't know better I'd think they were intentionally AVOIDING the worst hit areas.
nickthestick26 they were staying out of the way of emergency helicopters. The actual path of the tornado probably became a no fly zone
