I grew up going to all the places listed in this video. Now I live in Greenville, SC and I miss Kershaw so much. My mom still lives here, and I get to revisit from time to time.

My formative years were in Lancaster. I recall the smell of the Chili Dogs from an old Airstream type diner, in Downtown Lancaster SC. I remember feeding the ducks at the Cemetery! All the fruit trees and decorative plants were abundant, at my Grandparents house!

The hot dogs at 521! I miss Iwa's. :( Loved roaming Davis'. Went in the back of BC Moore's too. Sparetime went out because the cost of supplies made it too expensive. They'd reopened after the wreck for a few months. Think Bojangles was a Captain D's. I worked at D's Grill. Kinda sucked working for that guy. Bad Eye's was where I went as a little kid and got the Smarties pops. Still love those things! Wonderful tour!

The florist was Joe's Florest, and Bojangles was first a Hardee's. Within the line of businesses where the Library is now once had Tic Tak sewing plant and a barbershop , but I can't remember what else.

521 Grill was popular before the 1980s. CL used to buy the hamburgers that were ground and formed in Small’s meat department. I worked at Smalls when I was in high school.
The pavilion was built by the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) established as part of the FDR’s New Deal to recover form the Great Depression. I don’t recall the year but I think was built in the 1930s. The was a Belk and BC Moore in the 1960’s. Gregory’s furniture. Hilton Drugs before Taylor. Gus’ was a Rexall Drug store in the 60’s. Before IGA the grocery was Blackmon’s market. Foster Truesdale owned the drive in and restaurant next door to the theater. The Kershaw gym was tied into the Middle School and High School. The old scout building was once the high school though the 1950s The old scout cabin was also built by the CCC (my father went to Scouts there).
I’ve got you by a few decades! Thanks for the trip down memory lane. My memory may be off a bit but I’m pretty sure of what I typed above.

Our history in that area is fading fast! I Haven't lived in the Carolina's since 1974 . The closest I've come was Ft Stewart Ga. 1983. It's true you can take a boy out of the South, but You'll never take the South out of a Boy!

Thanks for the video Nate. You were wondering about the business prior to H & H Chevrolet? That would have been my fathers' business, Jack Dickey Ford. Around 1977 he built that facility and moved from downtown.
