Feb 9, 2024. This fix worked perfectly. Thank you so much for posting this. We used a proper industrial heat gun set on high for 5 seconds. Chip was too hot to touch after that. We let it cool and reassemble and installed the radio. I phoned my dealer in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada and a new radio is $550 plus $90 for installation.
Thank you! It worked for me, but I did heat it about 2 blasts of about 10 seconds each. My wife now thinks I'm smart. I gave you due credit. I have a 2013 Grand Caravan.
Thank you for the video. My 2015 Grand Caravan's radio volume stopped working summer of 2023 after a good month of cutting in and out. I was able to use the Aux, however, the volume control eventually stuck on zero. The local mechanic wanted $500 to replace. I was contemplating sending it to a repair shop (which would have been around $200) when I decided to do one more repair search. Followed what you did (right down to the foil on the heat gun). I was so happy when I plugged it back in and it worked like a charm! Update: The fix lasted almost 4 months, and it started cutting out again after parking outside in the sun, so might be heat related. After re-doing the fix, and verifying it worked, I decided to coat the chip in epoxy. Unfortunately, that means if it recurs I won't be able to repair again.
That was a great fix! Mine had no am/fm for years and I used Sirius xm. But last week my speakers started cutting out every 5 seconds. This fixed all my problems.
I followed step by step and it worked perfectly, after 3 years with no radio. Thanks for sharing. Finally some tunes on the way to work. You’re a lifesaver. 👍🏻
Oddly enough my neighbors Ram radio started having that same problem yesterday. Instead of a heat gun I used my reflow soldering station gun. Thanks for the tip cause it worked like a charm and saved him over $350 on a used radio. 👍
Can confirm this worked on my 2011 Ram 1500. Thought it didn't at first, but turned the radio on today and everything was fully functional. Great video! Life saver.
Followed your video and was able to re-solder the chip OMG you saved me a ton of money not having to go to the dealer or buy a new stereo. My 2012 RAM has tunes again I can't drive without music.
Used this method to fix my radio and it worked like a charm. Thank you for this video and the walk through to get my radio going again. It’s been 4 years trying to figure this out and finally found something that works.
@@rudijones well on further review the next day it was back to its old tricks of not working and popping in and out. Should I try your method again? Maybe I didn’t heat it long enough?
Thank you....Followed your directions to the letter. Bought a new heat gun (needed one anyway), did the foil thing, heated the chip on high for 5sec. plugged it in and works fine (for now). The sound was popping on and off when everything else was working. Now I have my BT and radio back!!! You Canadians always get it right!!
@@chisforndnorwood658 I bought a $20 heat gun, used tin foil to narrow the heat flow, followed the directions from this YT video. Put the radio back in and it's been working perfect for the past month. YT ruclips.net/video/T4k2z4aZFKs/видео.html&lc=Ugwwyj4YPi3MVGPtL9N4AaABAg.A4kdWJXsMpzA6Pd5SpWUky
My truck had no sound for a couple years. Finally saw this video tried it and it worked amazing. You wouldn’t believe all the crazy stuff people were saying to do.
Very very helpful I just couldn’t figure it out? It really worked, I did every step you showed and it worked. I used a mini torch and pressed down on the black scuare with out moving a single bit, heated up all around and not move it. Put it back together and it worked……🎉 thanks
Same thing happened to my radio 2012 Jeep liberty sport. Haven't done anything to repair the chip yet started . Saving this video for later. Thanks for the video.
Thank you for this video! The van I bought my wife a few years ago has had this issue and she has been without radio the whole time. I just did this and it is back to working like brand new! She is going to be so happy though i'm a little nervous to tell her how simple a fix it really was. I tihink I will tell her it took me all day long lol! Thanks again!!!
Thank you for the video. I followed the steps and tried it. It didn't work. I brought it back in and heated it a while longer and took it back out and it actually worked. Charging my parents $75 for fixing it.
Big Thank You for this video. Yesterday after 12 years my radio start to cut out sound in my 2012 Ram 1500. Used heat gun, count to 4 on each side and radio working fine now. Thanks.
Worked for me! Just be mindful of the components next to it as it heats everything. If anything shifts just make sure you push it back into place gently and let it harden.
Man, thanks a lot! I replaced the antenna on my wrangler and then I didn’t have any station sound. I thought I might have messed something up with the antenna. Crazy how that went out at the same time.
That worked like a champ. I did a like heat up and it fired right back up but if it happens again I will get a heat gun and do it right. Thanks a bunch you the man. Saved me alot of money.
thank you did this repair and it works for now also I'm not real steady so I bought heat gun on amazon that had a real small tip I could not see the soda points even with 2 pairs of readers so I took a picture with my phone and was able to make it big enough to see exactly which ones were not shiny took another picture after heating an they were all shiny it work thanks mine was 1012 ram
Is your radio STILL working ? Thanks so much ! After over a year without a radio, it's working again thanks to your instructions. Like yourself, hope it last for another 5 or 6 years. Mine is a 2012 dodge grand caravan. Wish i had've found your video sooner.
I’m doing this right now but gonna have to use a hair dryer? Hope it works… so it didn’t work but I think it’s a operator problem lol. I tried two different techniques. One with a lighter heating up a screw driver and applying to the element… the other applying a lighter to heat up a pliers and blow dryer because I didn’t have the equipment.. left on for like 10 seconds.. guess I’ll go without a radio until I can afford a new one. But! I am thankful for the video because now I know how to do it 😅
My radio is acting weird, plays for 4 seconds then off for 2 seconds, cd player and sat preview same, then after awhile it will start playing all the time, then back to cutting in and out. Would this be the same module problem you showed or a different issue. Any help appreciated. Tks
Well presented, no nonsense. Just purchased the hot air tool, arriving today, so here's hoping. Two questions: Should I carefully apply flux paste to the pins first? Should I apply clear epoxy after repairing to avoid later breakage of the reworked joints?
Flux wouldn’t hurt but not necessary. Epoxy will hold the joint solid but will limit ability to re work the solder in the future if the connection were to break again.
Yes, regarding epoxy, that fact had occurred to me. Well, with Edmonton winter temperatures it may well break again! If it fails down the road it might be time to shop for a new stereo! Many thanks for the very helpful video and the feedback.@@rudijones
I had the same issue but I only had to clean the corrosion off the contacts and spray with electronic cleaner. Then I coated with clear paint to seal it off from moisture.
A friend has a 1999 dodge truck and his display is intermittent. We took off the bezel and removed the radio but as we were pulling the radio out with the connectors still hooked up the display came back on. As we put it back in it went off again? The radio works just the display has a ground or loose connection. I tested the truck wires and they are good so something is going on with the radio. Need to take it apart to see what is loose on the inside. Any ideas?
****just a little note,,,, dont heat too much because that little chip is just sitting on top,, if you heat too much the chip will slide right off its spot and then its done for,,, lol been there done that,, anyone has a radio for sale,,
I finally got the bottom out after taking half the center console apart. I took everything apart exactly as described and heated it twice just as shown. It still won't work and now the cd player won't work either. I give up.
Do you know if this fixes a popping noise produced by the speakers? I can play music but it will pop, cut out the music and then play the music again and just repeat that
Do you have a chip number for this? I’ve got a 2007 Cadillac CTS-v with no sound on only FM. If you turn it all the way up you can just barely hear it. Haven’t been able to really find anything online other than to replace unit. I’ve had it out and took it apart but didn’t really see anything so put it back together. Cd player and AM are fine…..only FM. Your video is closest thing I’ve found so far. Thanks.
I just purchased a 2011 Ram 1500. The stereo lights up like it did for you. No matter what I change the radio station/ SAT or the third setting. I have no sound. Do I need to replace the stereo?
Can i use a small soldering iron instead of a hot air gun for this project ? I have exactly the problem mentioned. Looks like this might be the solution. Thanks
Since it’s one of the only modules not covered with epoxy (to absorb vibration) it’s the most vulnerable to breakage. Re flow the solder using a little more heat may work.
i took mine out 3 times and it still will cut out but now it will slowly come back. (5-10 sec) each time i heated a little more not sure what to do now
If it's intermittent it could be because you are traveling and it's bumping up and down making contact or it's so close to contact that it works intermittently.
I’m having this problem as well, but I’m wondering if I would just be able to replace the radio with a new one since I want a touchscreen Bluetooth radio anyways and I’m really not in the mood to take apart a whole radio
This worked twice, but each time after putting everything back together it stopped working. Is there anything i can do to make sure it stays in place and doesn’t mess up after 5 mins ?
I cleaned the contacts around the chip with a toothbrush and electronic cleaner. After I confirmed it worked, I sprayed clear paint over it to stop the corrosion.

Trying this on my 2016 dodge Grand Caravan this weekend. Wish me luck!
I'm impressed, you did it without any flux lol, to anyone reading this, please use flux if you're going to reflow the chip
Flux is not necessary and will likely cause added corrosion down the road if the wrong flux is used and/or not cleaned up after use.
Excellent video. Thank you.
