The levels of corruption in our city are so frustrating that all the virtues have been thrown out the windows and vices have taken over. How unfortunate
Nairobi started on it's "journey south" right at Independence!!!.... recall at the handover the departing " muzungus" informed the incoming gentlemen that they were handing over to them a City whose balance sheet was better than that of the entire Nation of Nyasaland now Malawi....the mess that we call Nairobi which we have created by our very own hands - acts of comission and omission -(the high rise buildings and cantilever roads are nothing to boast about) is there for all to see!!!
@so many kiosks have come up in kileleshwa along nyeri road and mwingi junction alcohal is being sold right at bus stage. Water wells no longer have water because of the high rise buildings coming up
one thing which i never understood is why Nairobi, the so called New York of africa lacks proper fire stations in such a big city like this only has 2 fire station of which only one functions, so lets say a fire breaks out in one of these tall buildings, how will they counter it? fire stations should be in every constituencies not one in the middle of Nairobi..this is an example that nairobi is a hotbed of corruption
A 6.5 richter scale earthquake is not far fetched given the proximity of Nairobi to the great rift valley with fault lines appearing once in a while and some active volcanoes. If such an earthquake happens, God forbid, Nairobians will wake up to the reality of their corrupt actions. Nairobi was built on a former swampland that has been constantly drained since the 1900s. Such land during an earthquake quickly liquefies and everything built on it just sinks or collapses. Buildings built back to back basically smash into each other as they sway during the quake. With only 2 or 3 major inefficient fire stations for a city of close to 6 million, there is no way we will stop the infernos that will surely follow a massive quake. Our hospitals will not be able to cope, there are no emergency rescue services that are ready to handle the huge numbers of casualties. Nairobi is a ticking time bomb.
Spot on!! Its going to be carnage, plain and simple. Worse than the Turkiye earthquake aftermath. There's a saying that goes, if you don't plan with mother nature in mind, mother nature will make plans for you. Any Nairobian who lives in/or near these high rises, and who understands the geology of Nairobi and the Rift Valley should be making plans to relocate, or at least have a single story home outside of Nairobi and any of the major towns so that at the first sight of building cracks or movements in the ground, they can get out of the danger zones in good time.
Alai puts his foot in his mouth when he admitted that it was fair for the former Governor of Nairobi (Kidero) to embrace CSR from scrupulous developers at the expense of Kileleshwa residents and the environment at large.
CSR's are decorated kickbacks. That's how we get substandard structures coz moneys meant for development we're squeezed to develop & go to officials' pockets.
Kileleshwa is riddled with potholes. Is Robert Alai aware??? Let him visit the following roads if he thinks this is a lie. Hamis Road, Mugoiri Road, Suguta Road, Mazeras Road and Othaya Road. Those roads are all in a PATHETIC state. Alai show the Kileleshwa residents that they elected you to work for them and not just to talk😢😢😢😢🇬🇧
Omera ur fool I think wat makes u clever u got money...let me teach u the roles of an MCA si kujenga Barbara but ni kujenga sheria that will govern the area.buda tumia akili wacha uji.
do you realise that for those roads to be maintained, money needs to trickle down from the county allocation from the county budget? ama ni kuongea tu fwaa!!! bwana atleast know how govt works
Are you like serious do you know how much money kidero looted in Nairobi when he was the governor he use to go and eat Lunch in Dubai and come so stop living in denial
Nairobi is going down, nothing new from Sakaja.Much was expected from Sakaja but the fellow seems to appear only when a disaster has happened. We thought by now a new administration would be putting up fire stations in various places in Nairobi to help fight fire that is common, new markets, new bus parks but the man got lost. Nairobi was better off with the army general politicians are not helpful to Nairobi.
Am so sorry but by the look of things this country just need to go the Ghana way( like Jerry Rawlings) I don't think any civilian rule can rectify this country, it is totally messed up!
These towers that are popping up in Westlands have very few lights on on a Monday 9pm when everyone is home and awake. A good example is Le Mac on Church Road. We can't have white elephants destroying the privacy, sunlight, and greenery of our neighbourhoods.
Nairobi is the money laundering centre of the region (illicit money from the counties and from the surrounding EAC countries) where corrupt Kenyan politicians, and warlords, politicians and tax-evading 'business men' from the neighbouring countries 'park' their ill-gotten wealth. I work in the construction industry and for the last almost 10 years, I've been calling out the 'boom' in the *high end* real estate sector as a facade for cleaning illicit money. I've been making the very same point you have made - that on the ground, things are not adding up because when you drive around Westlands, Parklands and sections of Kilimani and Kileleshwa at night, only a quartre of those high rises are lit, meaning that vacancies are very low.. and still, every month there's a new high rise coming up. Ask yourself.. who are these 'investors' who can afford to put up multi-million/billion shilling properties in these prime areas but at the same time have them largely vacant for years on end? Any legitimate investor needs to have their properties occupied at least 80% in order to recoup their ROI, bank loans, etc. The other side of that coin are our NCA officials who are taking huge bribes under the table to allow this foolishness.
I reckon Alai capacity is way above MCA slot ...... i might be wrong but it's just a thought because there are some recklessly and over rate stupid MPs in the city
What a shame! What kind of reasoning is Alai bringing... please, Spice FM take this conversation down to the wire, speak on it weekly... something has to be done. It ranks right up there with your sessions with Jimmy Wanjigi in spotlighting Kenya's corrupt underbelly
My thoughts exactly. What does he mean the MCAs are helpless? Have they even tried doing something about it? If he feels helpless why not resign instead of getting paychecks for doing nothing. Bana these politicians are all crooks.
Yiu are the one who is ignorant about his role. An MCA is a legislator at county level. Legislation, representation and oversight. So whats this other role you have in mind that you are referring to?
What's the work of the county assembly? Is it to oversee a messy Nairobi? It's very unfortunate that an elected member can talk carelessly in public. Why are they in the office? What have they achieved for Nairobians since they got elected?
robert alai is extremely ignorant on his role as an elected official. amekuja hapa kucomplain like a normal resident. he should be here telling us what he has done and asking for our support. not coming here to echo what is obvious. yes, government officials are failing this country. now what?? you were voted to deal with this. DEAL WITH IT ROBERT!
Do you know the role of a legislator? An MCA is a legislator at county level. Legislation, representation and oversight. An MCA has no budget for implementing projects.
You are right but the parliament has been reduced to a lounge, with big red chairs. Didn't you hear another MP from eastern saying they are receiving money for nothing, if everything is being decided at the state house, abroad, and on the roads. Then he is just a common guy.
@@aheuditParliament has not been reduced by anyone. The correct position is that Parliamentarians have chosen to reduce themselves to a lounge of cheerleaders at the service of the Executive. Through the Constitution, Kenyans have given the latitude to operate as legislators. But they have CHOSEN to give in to threats from the Executive. The role of Parliament is defined by the Constitution, in the same way that the Executive's role is defined.
@@georgeodhiambo598 who said anything about projects? don't put words in my mouth. i know exactly what a mca should do. my question is, what has alai done? complaining on radio is not part of his official duties.
If there is something that have failed us like county government this mcas are below standards to be precise they don't know their work so they are not there for us but chamas
It is you plus the rest of the electorate who are below standard. MCA are elected and their quality directly mirror the quality of the society that elected them.
Alai complaining is not ok, you are an mca in Nairobi what are you doing about it. UDA is not running the city, sakaja is the governor..if those seniors are not working , do something.
Darkness conceals the hippopotamus. If you don't seek knowledge and truth, even the most obvious danger will ensnare you.
Alai you're spot on. Leaders don't exercise authority for the benefit of the general public.
Why are the presenters interupting Alai once he mentions State House? Also Ndu’s questions dont make sense
Why are so many things in Kenya a mess?
Why all this inefficiency.
Why all this lawlessness?
It's a rhetorical question ....
Alai has grown to another level keep it up, Robert.
Alai is twisting and turning, its obvious that he didn't prepare ahead of this interview.

The demand for CSR in exchange for CSR is simply misplaced.
Kileleshwa is in a sorry state, too many sky scrappers and exhaustion of limited infrastructures.
Wawawawa, this corruption in City hall is beyond abnormal normal😮
Congratulations Robert and team for the presentation.
Forget about the roads. Do you have ambulances??
Good question
Forget about about ambulance they have never existed macaamero na ma kbuu zilienda wapi😂😂😂
Man, this ended up being a prophecy!
Also in coastal cpunties there are no preparedness for emergencies, no infrastructure to allow for emergency response.
It is not only in Nairobi!
Never knew Alai is this sharp.
Alai smart guy!
I think Alai has just sanctioned corruption. As they say if you cant beat them, Join them

drawing of a large amount of water from the underground in a small area can cause subsidence(sinking) of the ground surface.

Robert, why not bring out these concerns on the floor of the county assembly? You are the majority for heaven's sake.
Haven't you heard him saying that orders come from statehouse, majority side is not in statehouse
