    I'm so bummed that Bishop McElroy is no longer in San Francisco, but I'm happy for him and for the San Diego community that just gained a fantastic bishop! He is a good man.

      You are beyond blessed to have Cordileone in your area. Our Catholic faith is about a lot more than Bishop McElroy's social justice stuff. We need to ensure that CRS gets away from the Gov't. dole (U S Gov't. supports CRS in part) in exchange for very sub rosa deals that promote contraceptive methods. Bishop Coakley denies it even in the face of hard core proof. This is the Catholic Church that has an UNCHANGING doctrine. Why? Because it did NOT originate from anyone except Jesus Christ. One cannot change what He instituted. So, I'm all about calling things as I see 'em. I am no longer in Bishop McElroy's area, but my parish is there. I travel 30 miles each way to attend the Missa Cantata each Sunday. I support my parish because our pastor gives us enough "hard bread" to try to keep us humble. I am not in agreement with the endless chatter about a "meal" at a "table" accompanied by entertainment priests. It remains, and always will remain, a "Sacrifice" on the "altar." The meal, i.e., the Body and Blood of Christ, is NOT a symbol as even some clergy are spouting--- it is the Real Deal. And as for Social Justice, of course we must be charitable, compassionate, loving--but also remember "The poor you will ALWAYS have with you." (Both in earthly goods and spiritually) So, the whole presentation struck me as pablum. The woman SHOULD have made her status as a religious sister CLEAR and said PRAYER instead of "reflection," and made the Sign of the Cross. Holy Cannoli--what absurdity!

      Lucia Bartoli Sheesh.... you sure read a lot into my comment where I said I would miss him, that he's a good man, and that San Diego gained a fantastic bishop. In no way was I saying anything negative about Cordileone. I just happen to know Bishop McElroy personally and so it's natural that I would miss him being here. The hostility in your comment (like the use of caps) is misdirected because it wasn't relevant to my comment in any way.

    • @Nonnabella826
      @Nonnabella826 9 лет назад

      Kelley Cutler And you are responding to me...why? My commentary was clearly relevant. I would not "miss" a liberal cleric no matter how well I knew him. Your statement implies your agreement. Here's what I mean, Kelley: If someone I know practices things that are NOT adherent to doctrine, then I would maintain my silence and simply personally/privately wish my friend well...Hopefully, if you are NOT in agreement with his various positions, you have told your "friend" this in charity. THAT is why my comments are relevant. No need to get all upset. Being Catholic means never having to say, "I apologize for orthodoxy."

      I'm so bummed that Archbishop Cordileone is no longer in San Diego, but I'm happy that San Francisco Catholics have gained a fantastic archbishop who takes seriously his episcopal duty to teach, govern, and sanctify his flock!

    Hi Lucia, my company's video services for today's press conference were donated. Peace.

      Thom, there is no beef with you. It is simply that the bishop would be better served by not having the public listing of your company unless your credits STATE, production services courtesy of blah blah. But even THAT is not what I meant. I don't think that this great publicity and/or calling-attention-to are necessary elements of the new bishop's presence. There should be more focus on orthodoxy, solemnity and less "church of nice" and diluting of the elements of our faith. I remain stunned at the introduction by that "lady" who happens to be a consecrated religious. As a professional marketing entity and one I asume is also Catholic, I would think that you would have given some direction the sister to stick with the formulaic words/actions that Catholics use routinely --- prayer would have been a good start. The Sign of the Cross would have been nice. Pace e bene, Thom!

      Hi Lucia, great idea. Your "courtesy" suggestion was added to the video description. Peace.

      Thom Hiatt And it is now legitimately tax deductible. ;-) That is not wrong, for sure, just good business with good works.

      Lucia Bartoli, Absolutely. That which is renderable to God is deductible in determining that which is renderable to Caesar. What a country!

      Lucia Bartoli Lucia, I doubt very much Thom was in charge of the format of the press conference. He is simply a very good documenter of the proceedings. And what on earth do you mean by "more focus on orthodoxy, solemnity?" And whatever is this "church of nice" you refer to? I know you don't want us to return to the days of the abuses of the Inquisition, or a return to the (relatively weak, actually) papal armies of long ago.

    Hi James, yes, the media were very thorough and respectful. A wide variety of television and print outlets were present.

      Thom, was anyone from The Vortex there? Were the more conservative Catholic outlets there?

    • @ThomHiatt
      @ThomHiatt 9 лет назад

      Hi Lucia, I am sorry that I am not aware of the full listing of the media that chose to attend. I did see Fr. Chuck Fuld and Denis Graska from the Southern Cross Newspaper.

      Lucia Bartoli
      Would like to have seen someone from ChurchMilitant.tv or the Wanderer asking some tough questions rather than the typical "Church of Nice" slow pitch ice cream balls! I would've askind him to elaborate on his disagreement with Cardinal Burke and the application of Canon 915, since Cardinal Burke WAS the equivalent to the "Chief Justice of the Supreme Court" in the Church. Also would've asked about his position of equating "service to the poor" to the intrinsic evil of abortion.

    • @asmith5888
      @asmith5888 9 лет назад +2

      Lucia Bartoli Hi Lucia, of course no conservative outlets were there. They would never be invited, because they don't have the same worldview.

    • @francisfan6529
      @francisfan6529 9 лет назад

      IamIrishJustice Do you really believe Jesus made service to the poor in *any* way an optional activity? Do the requirements for getting to heaven not carry the same weight as murdering the innocent? "When I was hungry...in prison...etc."
      Do the words from God to Moses about treating the poor and strangers not apply any more? “You must not cheat any poor man of yours of his rights at law.....You must not oppress the stranger; you know how a stranger feels, for you lived as strangers in the land of Egypt.”

  • @Nonnabella826

    That was a religious sister? No Sign of the Cross? What? She said: "Let us begin with a moment of silence and gratitude." HUH? Why not the word "PRAYER?" As for the poor bishop...for me, there's a je ne sais quoi feel -- almost surreal. I feel like it's the 1970s again. I guess I'm looking for some guts and glory....a "Cordileone" kind of man/priest/bishop/shepherd. Oh, well, let's just grin and bear it...offer it up for the Poor Souls, and try to beg Our Lord for the grace to bear things in a better way. I'm just not there yet. (Can I ask...why the big marketing deal? Maybe we should do infomercials.) Sigh!

      My thoughts exactly about "Sister", WAS she a sister? Who would know. No sign of the cross, nothing that resembles Catholic prayer that I know!

    • @asmith5888
      @asmith5888 9 лет назад +1

      Lucia: I, too, noticed that Sister Carlotta began her "prayer" with a "moment of silence and gratitude," did not make the sign of the cross at any time during her speech, and also that she prayed to the "spirit" instead of the "Holy Spirit." You're correct in your observations that's something (or many things) are amiss here. Appreciate your comments and insights!

      Allyson Smith Thanks, Allyson. I am very grateful that there are still a few orthodox Catholics left and that we have some good guys like Michael Voris. My favorite magazine is New Oxford Review. I just don't stay silent any more. It is our sacred duty to state the truth -- just not to be rude or disrespectful. You are right about that lady/sister. I too heard that "spirit" nonsense. That opening told me ALL I needed to know.

    • @asmith5888
      @asmith5888 9 лет назад

      Lucia Bartoli Thank you for not staying silent, Lucia. You're right: As Catholics, it is our sacred duty to state the truth, always in charity, no matter what the "itching ears" of this world want to hear. So glad to find in you a kindred spirit! God bless you, and happy and joyful Lent.

      Umm, are you aware that we don't begin Morning Prayer (the official prayer of the Catholic Church) with a classic sign of the cross but rather crossing our lips with our thumb as we say, "Lord open my lips and my mouth shall declare your praise?" Not all prayer need begin with the sign of the cross. It's not at all a bad thing to do, but I doubt you will find anything in the CCC that requires it. Don't you just talk to God anytime like you would to any friend in an informal way?

    Bishop McElroy is a "Social Justice" kind of guy. He equates the poor with the intrinsic evil of abortion. He joins Cardinal Wurel in his stance to NOT up hold Canon 915, he believes that handing the Eucharist to pro-abortion politicians will help them. I forone think Cardinal Burke has the right view on the issue. What can the more Traditional amongst us do? Bottom line, He is a very liberal Bishop, conservatives and traditionalists LOOK OUT!

    • @Nonnabella826
      @Nonnabella826 9 лет назад

      Yes, you are correct. But even as I sometimes reply to the under catechized or the liberals who promote contraception/same sex marriage/homosexual practice ACCEPTANCE, I realize that I am NEVER going to affect their church of nice thinking. I only disagree with The Wanderer as it is a scandal rag that does not adhere to charity and has, all too often, printed errors or caused problems. Even the most orthodox Catholics (NOT the granola cult like people) reject that publication. This is because news like Adoremus and New Oxford Review require one to think and not merely cast stones. Those media demand that we think.

    • @asmith5888
      @asmith5888 9 лет назад +1

      Lucia Bartoli Actually, orthodox Catholics like me like The Wanderer and appreciate its exposition of all that's wrong in the "Church of Nice." I credit The Wanderer for enlightening me and leading me to "reversion" to the Catholic faith after finding copies of it in my suburban Chicago/Naperville parish 20 years ago. I thank the unknown person who left those copies in the back of that church, and have nothing but respect and gratitude for The Wanderer's efforts to expose the problems in the "Church of Nice." I also subscribe to Adoremus, and formerly subscribed to New Oxford Review.

      Oh, my. More Catholics who only accept some of the gospel. As one of the local pastors of the SD diocese said in the UT on Sunday-- (paraphrasing) if Christ himself were appointed bishop here, you wouldn't accept his approach.

    • @IamIrishJustice
      @IamIrishJustice 9 лет назад

      FrancisFan I accept the Gospel as taught and interpreted in the light of Church Tradition. This modernist approach that equates areas were Catholics CAN disagree with Intrinsic evils has no place in Catholic thought! Heterodox maniacs have had the reigns for far to long.

    • @francisfan6529
      @francisfan6529 9 лет назад +1

      IamIrishJustice Say what you will, the *kerygma* of the RCC has not been prevailed against, even by Catholics enamored with small "t" traditions. You seem to use the word tradition in its sense with a small "t." Tradition with a capital "T"continues to this day and will continue as Jesus himself said it would: "But when he comes, the Spirit of truth, he will guide you to all truth." I think we all need to be very careful not to lead believers away from the Truth.

  • @Nonnabella826
    @Nonnabella826 9 лет назад

    This was not morning prayer and last time I checked its not just the spirit, but the Holy Spirit! And the secularizd sister did nothing about "prayer". It was a "reflection." Huh?? Lastly--are you the official apologist for semi-religious?
    Take your lumps like a grown-up and let Sr Mary Secular make her own excuses.

    • @francisfan6529
      @francisfan6529 9 лет назад +2

      Lucia, shorter forms of names are in no way a problem. Calling the Holy Spirit simply "the Spirit" is just fine. Jesus recall, did the same thing...he called the Father "Abba"---the equivalent of "dad." And he exhorted us to do the same.

    Authentic spiritual Fathers are concerned with the salvation of souls.This man belongs to the spirit of the world, the flesh and the devil. He is more devoted to advancing the homosexual lifestyle than protecting the innocence of out children.
