    I paid £200 for a course of CBTI to cure my insomnia. I needn't have bothered. I learnt far more by watching your videos. I even passed on your tips and guidance to my insomnia 'mentor'. This course suggested that when I get up after 15 minutes, I should sit in the dark! Other advice I'd come across, suggested I read the most boring thing I could possibly find. Only you suggested I get up and do something pleasant like watching TV until I felt sleepy, then go back to bed. You don't have much time for 'sleep efforts', so I ditched them - they didn't work anyway. The crux of what you are about is getting rid of anxiety. Everything you suggested worked. If I can't sleep, I just go through in my mind all the advice you give, and it works. Soon - in a less anxious state I fall asleep. it's worked every time for me so far and I thank you for it.

      Yikes - that kind of approach sounds a bit like a punishment and I can see how it has the potential to create even more struggle! As you shared, the key to getting rid of insomnia is to move away from all the effort involved in trying to fight or avoid it. I appreciate your kind words and am happy to hear you've found a more workable approach!

    When I haven't fed it in the night and I didn't sleep at all, I end up invariably being so tired the next day : headaches, feeling faint and weak and an't do my normal activities like running or seeing friends. So I end up taking an anti - anxiety pill to calm me down and perhaps help me to get a nap in the afternoon to survive the evening but come night time I'm wide awake again. What shall I do?

      I wonder if seeing friends even after a tough night might help reduce fatigue a little and improve the quality of your day a little? As you have experienced, daytime naps reduce sleep drive and can make nighttime sleep a bit more difficult. It's a bit like snacking during the day and then wondering why you aren't hungry at dinnertime!

      I’ve tried to see friends in the day when I didn’t slept the night before but I just couldn’t string my words together properly when talking and looked so tired so I would just cancel my appointments usually at last minute. And even when I tried to take a nap I couldn’t sleep anyway so my sleep drive is the same! But I still can’t sleep at night! It’s baffling!

      @@edenlifeonearth As it sounds like you have experienced, canceling appointments when we don't have a good night of sleep usually guarantees a bad day and perpetuates sleep disruption. If you are unable to nap during the day, this suggests that you might be fatigued rather than sleepy. If you are unable to speak during the day, I would suggest talking to your doctor since that is not usually a symptom associated with chronic insomnia.

    I have been working with another sleep coach for about 2 months. My sleeping issues had been getting better, even had the courage to leave a antidepressant I was given to help me sleep. I was sleeping fine with an occasional night of poor sleep. Now it seems like its come back with that vengeance you talk about. I think I will give you a call if this doesnt improve in the next couple of weeks

      It sounds as though you are on the right track - it's not unusual to experience difficult nights from time to time (just as it's not unusual to experience difficult days from time to time). What's more important is how we respond to them!

    Do u know much about trouble sleeping due to caffeine withdrawl?

    • @InsomniaCoach
      @InsomniaCoach  3 года назад

      Withdrawal from any drug can create some temporary sleep disruption. As the body adjusts to the absence of the drug, sleep usually gets back on track all by itself - this can take time, though!
