The start to 5 IN A ROW, and the beginning of Team Korea's dominance. They would go on to win 3 consecutive World Championships, the Tokyo Olympics, and another World Championship for FIVE CONSECUTIVE TITLES! A record!
They have completed 7 SEASONS AS WORLD #1, and depending on Paris Olympic results, could end this season as #1 making it 8 IN A ROW! Sadly, Kim Junho has retired, and Kim Junghwan is injured/retired(?) and won't be a part of the Olympic team.
Ha Hansol got silver at the last World Cup, so hopefully he and either Do Gyeongdong or Park Sangwon will represent well.
Team USA is currently ranked #2 and could overtake Korea with a superior finish in Paris as only 12 points separate the two teams. Eli Dershwitz is the reigning world champion from Milan 2023 and ranked #7, and Colin Heathcock, who was the youngest to win a World Cup this year, will be ready to compete with Saron and Dolegowicz completing the roster, both are ranked in the 20s.
USA beat Korea at 2 World Cups this season, so it will be really intense if they meet up in Paris.
Hungary are the reigning World Champs from Milan with exactly the same team from this event.
Egypt looks strong with Ziad Elsissy ranked #2 in the world. Ziad and Eli both coach and fence at Tim Morehouse, so they know each other well, with Ziad winning their most recent head to heads.
France looks strong with Sebastian Patrice, Max Pianfetti and Bolade Apithy.
Can Korea hold on for their 8th #1 season? Or will there be a changing of the guard?
The Korean Coach wearing black and magic spraying Oh's butt, is Lee Hyo Kun, a two time Olympian, and my son's current head coach. He is a true Maestro. In just 6 years of opening his club, it is the #1 ranked club in the US for Y14, Cadet and Junior!

    Description:
Footage the Final bout of the 2017 Fencing World Championships Men's Team Sabre event between South Korea and Hungary cut from the original stream for clarity and searching purposes. Stream footage to sound delay fixed.
Team Korea had won Men's Team Sabre Gold at the 2012 London Olympics, and Silver at the 2014 Kazan World Championships. However, in the seasons of 2015 and 2016, Korea would lose in the quarter finals to France and Russia respectively. At the 2016 Rio World Championships, Oh Sanguk and Kim Junho fenced their first season on the team event and their first World Championships - they were unready. Korea had a large lead before Oh Sanguk lost it to Ibragimov. Korea then fought back the lead until Kim Junho lost it to Danilenko in the 8th. Now in the season of 2016-17, Oh Sanguk has been selected as anchor for the first time. Korea had never won the Men's Sabre Team event at World Championships at this point.
Team Hungary has not won the Men's Sabre Team event at World Championships since 2007 - Szilagyi's first season on the team. Hungary won Bronze at 2014 Kazan World Championships and Silver at the 2016 Rio World Championships. Andras Szatmari had won the individual event a few days prior by beating Gu Bongil in the final.
The last time that we had 1080p footage of the World Championships Final was in 2018.
