  • Opening minutes from this 1983 broadcast of the CBC classic "The Friendly Giant" features story time with Friendly, Rusty and Jerome; the static is unfortunate as this was an antenna recording. I love the way Jerome's thought process sort of wanders off while fixating on cake.

I am one of those in the US who remembers this show very well, grew up just over the border in upstate NY. I loved this show and just hearing the music makes me tear up, I don't know why. Maybe it's the memory, as a child of watching this and being so upset when it was over, I would sometimes cry. I am surprised most of the videos are dated 1983....I had no idea it was on that long because it was the early 60's when I watched it.

Same here - it played on public TV here in Utah in the early 60s, too, along with a wonderful show called Roundabout, though I've never found a trace of that one.

Back then they didn't have to go through bureaucracy, they had to fill a spot. It goes to show how the vision of an individual can affect a generation. One guy realized that there was a time of day when most children needed a nap. I always stayed awake until the drawbridge closed, but I usually fell asleep about a minute later.
It must have been a blessing to the nice people that took care of me at the time.

Where is the end of this? It isn't often that Friendly plays the goodbye music while Jerome is wearing something on his ears.

I Like This Show So Mush, I Want To A Remake With Someone Else As Friendly, And The Other As Rusty And Jerome. Still A Fun Show. Too Bad TV Isn't As Wholesome And Simple.

There's quite a few of us in the US who do remember this show very well (often by luck of living near the border and receiving the channel either over the air or on cable, in my case, cable, as my local cable company offered CBET from Windsor).

I always wondered if this show might have been an influence on, of all things, MST3K. Jerome reminds me of Crow.
